Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You are using Lion, and AirPlay Mirroring needs Mountain Lion. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 You have two options:
1. Upgrade to Mountain Lion. Make a backup of your files and check that your applications are comaptible > http://www.roaringapps.com Then, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. When the upgrade finishes, you will see an AirPlay icon on the menu bar.
2. Use an app like AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

If you bought the MBP new 3 weeks ago, it should have come with Mountain Lion already installed. Did you update your MBP to the newly released 10.8.4 update? If not, what OS were you running before the upgrade, and what version of Mountain Lion do you have now?

  • Ever since i upgraded to mountain lion, my macbook pro is really really slow

ever since i upgraded to mountain lion, my macbook pro (17" 2010 intel i7 4GB ram) is really really slow, specially at start up and shut down. any solution?
my hard drive is has about 200 GB free space, and i do regular varification for my drive. i almost regret upgrading to mountain lion :-(

Depending on the software you use (and how many programs you use at once) you may need to add more RAM. Shutdown with 10.8.2 is noticably longer than Lion's shutdown (and even slower than the original release of 10.8). I suggest you reboot your computer and immediately launch Activity Monitor. You want to watch two things: 1) RAM - as you use the computer over the next couple of hours after the reboot are you seeing the Page Out number increasing pretty quickly? That would be an indication that your computer is quickly using up RAM and pushing software and data into Virtual Memory to make room. This could account for the slow computer. 2) CPU - unless you are running some heavy duty software, your CPU usage may spike close to 80-90% for a few seconds but mostly hover in the 20-40% range. If it is higher than that, or if you see a single process using more than 70% constantly you may have a rogue process that is dragging the computer down.

  • Black screen and looping after installing and updating Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 2011 13 "i5 2.4Ghz

After first installing the new Mountain Lion upgrading Lion on my Macbook Pro was a little slow, so I decided to format and install Mountain Lion via a thumb drive. After installation on my Macbook Pro was restarting all the time and showing a black screen with codes on the screen. I decided to reformat and reset the PRAM, and that seems to have worked. Occasionally a black screen appears with the codes and my macbook restarts again. Last night I updated the Mountain Lion and error and looping retornartam. I thought I had lost all my works, do more entered in the login screen. I turned off my macbook, went to sleep and this morning I called and finally worked Do not know what's going on in my friends' macbook not occur this problem. The macbook them is the 2011 13 "i5 2.0Ghz and another 2010 and they both work perfectly with the Mountain Lion.

    Is there a hardware problem?
    thank you

Before you upgrade, make sure all your software supports it based on post July, 25, 2012 reports on

Reports prior to this date are unreliable, as they are likely with beta releases of Mountain Lion to developers. Other pitfalls to realize include:

  • Mountain Lion on Macbook Pro ('08) - OS freezing - Should I revert to Lion?

Hello - I have an '08 Macbook Pro (the first one that used swipe gestures) that I recently updated to Mountain Lion from Lion. My computer worked fine for about a week but recently developed a concerning issue - the screen freezes and does the windows thing where if you are able to move your mouse, it covers the screen with the window you hover over. It's a giant distorted mess (see screenshot). My fix, thus far, has been to reboot, but when I do that it will sometimes get stuck in a reboot cycle (it shows the gray screen that there was an issue and says press a key to continue or wait a few seconds). It thinks, then reboots itself again.
On the off chances I actually am able to login, it is a matter of a few minutes before it starts acting up again.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions? The new macbook pro retina displays are beautiful but I was hoping to not have to buy one for awhile...
    Thanks in advance!

Try repairing your permissions.  Go to applications then to the "other" folder then go to disk utility, on the left hand side you will see a white box.  Select the second option, usually called "mac HD" with that selected click on "repair permissions" in the center towards the bottom of the screen.  Wait for it to complete, then see if this fixes the issue.
How much HD space do you have left? How much RAM do you have?  You may also want to try this:
    PRAM:
    i. Ensure the machine is powered off.
ii. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
iii. Press the ‘power on’ button.
iv. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    v. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up normally.

  • Error 0xe00002ca black screen after login, Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 13 inch early 2011 SSD 256 GB

After entering my pw at the login screen, I get a black screen
This started after battery got fully drained accidentally.
It has happened in the past after battery gets fully drained accidentally, and I have to reboot several times until it boots properly.
This time I tried rebooting several times but it never booted properly
Tried booting into Safe Mode, by restart Mac while holding down theShift key past the chime, until I saw the Apple logo and spinning gear. I did NOT see the spinning gear change into a solid progress bar. I also did NOT see OS X login window with the words “Safe boot” in bright red.
I Tried booting Mac’s recovery system, by restarting Mac and holding down Command + R during boot. I ran Disk Utility and theVerify Disk option  did NOT find any errors. Interestingly only 16 mb was found to be available on the 250 GB disk. Note: I have filevault2 encryption enabled

Do I need to erase the harddisk and restore from time machine, just reinstall OS Mountain lion from internet, get a new hard disk, or do something else.
I don't know if I need to boot this Macbook from an external disk/drive and copy data or fix some minor error
    PLEASE HELP !
    I would highly appreciate it.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Black screen after login, Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 13 inch early 2011 SSD 256 GB

  • Mirroring mountain lion on macbook pro to apple tv

Downloaded Mountain Lion to mirror desktop as I mirror movies and music from my macbook pro.  ****** to find out you had to purchase laptop in 2011 to be able to mirror desktop!  Ridiculous.

    Its right there...
    From:http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).

  • Laserwriter Pro 630, Mountain Lion, and Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have a very old Laserwriter Pro 630 that I use for simple inexpensive proofing. On my old system (G4 Tower w/Leopard), it was connected via an ethernet hub.
I'm now the proud owner of a Macbook Pro Retina (with no ethernet port), and I can't figure out how (or if) I can use this printer. Can someone give me some advice on this?
    Thanks,
    Mark

There are certainly potential obstacles, but the "lowest common denominator" approach of a parallel to Ethernet (or wireless) solution works for me. If using a print server, the goal is to create an IP address where this printer will reside on the network. Since the LW Pro 630 is a PostScript printer, the rest is easy.
To summarize the results of the thread you linked, including the links within it, regarding this specific model LaserWriter, based on my own testing on OS X versions from Jaguar through Mountain Lion:
IOGear GUC1284B parallel to USB adapter attached to a Mac's USB port: works
The same IOGear adapter connected to an AirPort Extreme or Express USB port does not work with the LaserWriter Pro 630, though it works with other parallel printers. I was never able to determine the reason but am pretty confident I exhausted every possibility. Read my responses to Loroi near the end of this thread: USB to Parallel Cable for LW Select 360?
D-Link DP-311P and D-Link DP-G301 parallel to wireless adapters: both work. Similar parallel to wireless or Ethernet adapters ought to work as well.
Another possibility would be to use a USB to serial converter, such as the Keyspan (Tripp Lite) USA-28XG. I have not attempted this potential solution. The challenge would be to discover the LaserWriter's default serial port settings, but a good guess would be 9600-n-8-1.
Configuring the Mac to use this alternative would require no small amount of tedium with which you are well familiar I suspect the LaserWriter used a configuration utility that requires OS 9 and AppleTalk to configure its serial port, and may also have been required for the AAUI transceiver which the OP probably doesn't have. The fact this particular LaserWriter has a parallel port that requires no configuration makes this an unattractive alternative.
The disadvantage of any of the above solutions is that complete, bidirectional communication won't work, meaning the printer will not be able to inform the Mac that it's out of paper for example. If the printer is not ready the print job will patiently wait until it becomes ready. Communicating with the printer to determine details such as page count are also unavailable without Intel-coded utility software that does not exist in OS X.

  • Random Reboots after Mountain Lion Update MacBook Pro

Hey All, So I've just installed mountain lion on my macbook pro, However I've been running into an issue of frequent (like 3-5 times per day) crashes. The screen simply just goes black and the computer restarts. Any idea what the issue could be? Here is the panic report attached:

  • How to reinstall OS X Lion on macbook pro late 2011 ?

    Hello all !
I'm new here and pretty new to Macbook Pro had for just over a month now.
I baught it expecting it to be fast and good though I seem to be getting hard time doing simple stuff and having connection problems plus it slows down on me.
My family members have been downloading all kind of stuff and my MBP is pretty slow since then and wierd stuff is occuring.
I would like to reinstall Lion OS X to make as new agian since I think this solution only might help me here.
Though when I baught this MBP I didn't recieve any CD's with it as in basic OS X installations.
My question how am I supposed to reinstall my OS X and my MBP ? Please help me I am so fustrated because of this.
    Relevant information about my MBP:
    Macbook Pro 8,1 - 13" Late 2011
    Version 10.7.4
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Main issues:
Wi-Fi keep dropping and Safari is acting way to slow.
Invisible files appearing and are Visible on desktop such as (.DS_Store & .localized)
Many other gliches that prevent me copying simple stuff and closing Safari or tabs in Safari.
    Thanks to all in advance.

What do you suggest then ?
I suggest troubleshooting the problem instead of just guessing what has to be done. Since you're within 90 days of purchase, you're eligible for phone support from AppleCare.
Stop the secure erase. Quit Disk Utility and either restore from a Time Machine backup or run the Installer. You don't mention whether you have a backup. I hope you do, because otherwise your data is lost beyond any hope of recovery.

  • Can I text to an iphone using mountain lion and macbook pro?

Just wondering if I can text from my macbook pro using mountain lion with the new messages app? What i've read seems to say that you can text to any imessages user.  Does this mean that a text can go from my messages app in mountain lion on my computer to an iphone using imessage? Thanks!

    Hi,
You have to have an Apple ID on Messages on the Mac to get it to start.
Once that is done it will also tend to find all the iChat Accounts you may have had.
    Uploaded with Skitch!
I have several names that have "me" in the name that Messages thinks are iMessages accounts (see icons).
I also have AIM (AOL) accounts.
My Google ID is a Jabber account.
The iPhone has to be set up in Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID
As has been mentioned in this thread the Messages option has to be on.
A New Message icon starts things and then you chose a Contact for iMessages

It indicates if you are using iMessage or AIM or Jabber to Contact people.
The "To" spot becomes a drop down when a  name is there (you can then change to an Apple ID or Phone number or Switch to an AIM Screen Name or Jabber ID if the Contact (Address Book) Card has the details

As you can see I have an @mac.com and an @me.com name logged in and could switch to AIM logins to contact "myself" as a Buddy (rather than an iMessage Contact)
