How to setup private network in oracle rac

Hi all,
Iam trying to setup oracle 2-NODE RAC ,
now i stuck in setup private network..
how to setup private network, what i have to do for that.
please help us provide step by step process

The loop is nothing but a network cable connecting two nodes on same port with a private IP address (something like 10.0.01 and 10.0.0.2) which is not accessible by any other machine in the network (except 2 nodes obviously ).
Note that cross over cables are not supported for the Cluster Interconnect. And cross over cables limit the cluster to only 2 nodes, which may not be enough for many RAC deployments.
Cheers,
Brian

  • Copper cable / GigE Copper Interface as Private Interconnect for Oracle RAC

    Hello Gurus
Can some one confirm if the copper Cables ( Cat5/RJ45) can be used for Gig Ethernet i.e. Private interconnects for deploying Oracle RAC 9.x or 10gR2 on Solaris 9/10 .
i am planning to use 2 X GigE Interfaces (one port each from X4445 Quad Port Ethernet Adapters) & Planning to connect it using copper cables ( all the documents that i came across is been refering to the fiber cables for Private Interconnects , connecting GigE Interfaces , so i am getting bit confused )
would appretiate if some one can throw some lights on the same.
    regards,
    Nilesh Naik
    thanks

Cat5/RJ45 can be used for Gig Ethernet Private interconnects for Oracle RAC. I would recommend trunking the two or more interconnects for redundancy. The X4445 adapters are compatible with the Sun Trunking 1.3 software (http://www.sun.com/products/networking/ethernet/suntrunking/). If you have servers that support the Nemo framework (bge, e1000g, xge, nge, rge, ixgb), you can use the Solaris 10 trunking software, dladmin.
We have a couple of SUN T2000 servers and are using the onboard GigE ports for the Oracle 10gR2 RAC interconnects. We upgraded the onboard NIC drivers to the e1000g and used the Solaris 10 trunking software. The next update of Solaris will have the e1000g drivers as the default for the SUN T2000 servers.

Thanks alot Mahesh Jayashan. I checked on following tables the DATA for year 2011 didnot exists it only contains for Previous Years and Months.
    1- W_MCAL_PERIOD_D
    2- W_MCAL_QTR_D
    3- W_MCAL_YEAR_D
    4- W_MCAL_CONTEXT_G
FOR TEST basses I Manually inserted Data for 2011 to W_MCAL_YEAR_D Table so data was shown on Dashboard for Year but i wasn't able to See for 2011 Months cause i didn't Manually inserted data in other tables.

  • Gig Ethernet V/S  SCI as Cluster Private Interconnect for Oracle RAC

    Hello Gurus
Can any one pls confirm if it's possible to configure 2 or more Gigabit Ethernet interconnects ( Sun Cluster 3.1 Private Interconnects) on a E6900 cluster ?
It's for a High Availability requirement of Oracle 9i RAC. i need to know ,
    1) can i use gigabit ethernet as Private cluster interconnect for Deploying Oracle RAC on E6900 ?
    2) What is the recommended Private Cluster Interconnect for Oracle RAC ? GiG ethernet or SCI with RSM ?
    3) How about the scenarios where one can have say 3 X Gig Ethernet V/S 2 X SCI , as their cluster's Private Interconnects ?
    4) How the Interconnect traffic gets distributed amongest the multiple GigaBit ethernet Interconnects ( For oracle RAC) , & is anything required to be done at oracle Rac Level to enable Oracle to recognise that there are multiple interconnect cards it needs to start utilizing all of the GigaBit ethernet Interfaces for transfering packets ?
    5) what would happen to Oracle RAC if one of the Gigabit ethernet private interconnects fails
Have tried searching for this info but could not locate any doc that can precisely clarify these doubts that i have .........
    thanks for the patience

Can any one pls confirm if it's possible to configure
2 or more Gigabit Ethernet interconnects ( Sun
    Cluster 3.1 Private Interconnects) on a E6900
cluster ?Yes, absolutely. You can configure up to 6 NICs for the private networks. Traffic is automatically striped across them if you specify clprivnet0 to Oracle RAC (9i or 10g). That is TCP connections and UDP messages.
It's for a High Availability requirement of Oracle
    9i RAC. i need to know ,
    1) can i use gigabit ethernet as Private cluster
interconnect for Deploying Oracle RAC on E6900 ? Yes, definitely.
    2) What is the recommended Private Cluster
Interconnect for Oracle RAC ? GiG ethernet or SCI
with RSM ? SCI is or is in the process of being EOL'ed. Gigabit is usually sufficient. Longer term you may want to consider Infiniband or 10 Gigabit ethernet with RDS.
    3) How about the scenarios where one can have say 3 X
    Gig Ethernet V/S 2 X SCI , as their cluster's
Private Interconnects ? I would still go for 3 x GbE because it is usually cheaper and will probably work just as well. The latency and bandwidth differences are often masked by the performance of the software higher up the stack. In short, unless you tuned the heck out of your application and just about everything else, don't worry too much about the difference between GbE and SCI.
    4) How the Interconnect traffic gets distributed
amongest the multiple GigaBit ethernet Interconnects
( For oracle RAC) , & is anything required to be done
at oracle Rac Level to enable Oracle to recognise
that there are multiple interconnect cards it needs
to start utilizing all of the GigaBit ethernet
Interfaces for transfering packets ?You don't need to do anything at the Oracle level. That's the beauty of using Oracle RAC with Sun Cluster as opposed to RAC on its own. The striping takes place automatically and transparently behind the scenes.
    5) what would happen to Oracle RAC if one of the
Gigabit ethernet private interconnects fails It's completely transparent. Oracle will never see the failure.
Have tried searching for this info but could not
locate any doc that can precisely clarify these
doubts that i have .........This is all covered in a paper that I have just completed and should be published after Christmas. Unfortunately, I cannot give out the paper yet.
    thanks for the patience

  • How to setup management server in oracle 10g database

    guys,
i've installed oracle 10g database into my machine. but i don know how to setup the management server (for scheduling owb10g process flows). unlike 9idb, we have an option emca to setup the management server. if anyone of u knows abt it, please help me. do i need to install the grid control just to have the scheduling mechanism? please advice.

Well, it depends heavily on what operating system you're using, what mail server you're trying to install, your network topology, etc. Realistically, this is a question that is probably better asked in a forum for whatever mail server you're trying to install...

  • How to setup a network printer via http

I have a router with a USB printer attached to it. It looks like this:
    Printer status: Ready
    Printer location: http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer
In Windows you setup a network printer and the printers address is the http address above. How do you add this type of printer in the printer setup utility on Mac OSX 10.4.11 and 10.5.x?

For OS X 10.5, you use the following settings
As mentioned by bdaqua, open Print & Fax and click the IP icon and then select IPP from the top drop menu. Then in the Address field just enter the IP address; don't enter the leading 'http://' and don't enter the :631 (the mere fact that you have selected the IPP protocol means that it will communicate on port 631)
Then in the queue field you can enter printers/My_Printer, although some router perform a translation for the shared printer so you only need to enter the shared printer name in the queue field.
As for the name and location fields, these are just free text for the local user and have no bearing on the queue details.
And as for 10.4 I have no idea or way to test this at home. But if you use a mix of mine and bdaqua's information you should be okay.

  • How to setup Guest Network Name in Cisco Router

    Hello everyone!
The first. Sorry my english =)
I want tald you how to change guest network name in cisco (what have different name)
    What we need.
    1. Cisco Connect for Mac OSX (i use snow leopard and Cisco Connect for E3000)
    2. Terminal
    Okay. Let's go.
    1. Install Cisco Connect for OSX
    2. After setup - slighty setup your cisco router (give something name and password), then, when cisco connect say you "You now connected the internet" and going to main screen - exit from cisco connect
    3. Open Terminal (Or you can use Finder (go to Application, show package content Cisco Connect))
    4. Go to /Application/Cisco Connect.app/Contents/Resources/lcid/<your setup language, for english - go 1033>/
    5. Edit resource_strings.pus (vi resource_strings.pus)
    6. Change "-guest" in string <LocalizableString RcFileId='10019' BaseTextHash='0xA65E286D' BaseText='-guest'/> for something what you want. For example, i changed for ' Guest Network'
    7. Save
    8. Open Cisco Setup
    9. Go to router configuration and change desired name. I changed to 'Grizlly Bear'
    10. After setup name - go to Guest Setting and Enable. As you can si, your guest network name set as 'Grizlly Bear Guest Network'
    11.Exit Cisco Setup
    12. Go to web interface setup
    13. Setup Wifi manual and change SSID for diferent names. I change 5Gh to 'Grizlly Bear Hi-Speed Network' and 2.4GHz to 'Grizlly Bear Main Network'
    14. Setup your hostname for all services (fileserver, media server, etc)
    Woala!
We have three diferent names network!
    Questions?

In order to enable Guest networking, the AirPort Extreme must be configured as your "main" Internet router. In this configuration, Connection Sharing = Share a Public IP address. The Extreme would be connected directly to the Internet modem and NOT downstream of another router with NAT enabled.
In this configuration, the Guest network would provide access ONLY to the Internet and NOT to your LAN.

  • How configure Tuxedo 8.1 to Oracle RAC 9.1

I need to configure Tuxedo 8.1 to work with Oracle RAC 9i, I saw that there's documentation to configure for Tuxedo 9i with Oracle RAC 10g. But this is not my scenario. If someone know how to do this, could send me some documentation or example to apply this. I already read ads.pdf from BEA dev2dev site and this documentation don't talk about Oracle 9i

    Weverton,
Later versions of Oracle contain significant RAC-related features not
present in earlier versions of RAC, so Tuxedo
(For example, Oracle 10gR2 contains support for DTP services, and Oracle
10.1.0.3 contains support for Fast Application Notification.)
Because one or more of these features is required for RAC migration and
recovery in Tuxedo, Tuxedo offers support only for Oracle 10.1.0.3 and above
for general RAC architectures. (However, there are some specialized RAC
application architectures, such as architectures where only a single service
is called in each transaction and architectures where transactions are not
used where Tuxedo can work with Oracle 9i.) Significant improvements in
RAC have occurred with each Oracle release, so if it is possible to upgrade
to Oracle 10gR2 then you should do so.

  • How to setup wired network with G4, MBP and PC

Sorry to ask a bit of a stupid question here, but I've never had to network machines together so I'm starting from a knowledge level close to zero.
Situation. Old G4 (733) and new (intel) Mac Book Pro in one room. New PC (Dell) in another room with a wired router connected to internet. PC is also connected to a laserprinter. Hard wire ethernet cable running between the rooms to connect either the G4 or the MBP to the internet. Both the G4 and the MBP have only one ethernet connection. MBP is wireless, as is the PC. The G4 is not.
First off, I'd like to network the MBP and the G4. I believe ethernet is the best way to do this, but if I do that, how would I then connect to the internet? Would I just have a second router in the Mac room with the 2 Mac's hooked up to it and the other end going back to the router that's connected to the internet? I'd rather stay hard-wired than go wireless if at all possible. I do most of my internet work through the MBP, but some must be done through the G4, ie software updates, as the G4 has a lot more programs on it.
Second question, how would I then network to the PC in the other room? It would be nice to move files, photographs for instance, between the Macs and the PC. I'd also like to access the lazerprinter which is in that room, connected to the PC.
Hoping this is a simple question with a simple answer.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
What you are describing is all possible, but, I am going to assign you some reading. This way, you'll be able to deal with your own particular needs, like a Pro.
The following will get you up to speed on networks, and various hardware needed:

    http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworking/HomeNetworking_Setting_Up_a_HomeNetwork.htm
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/network/
Adding the PC into the network has some special considerations. the following sites have good info for setting up such a network:
    http://www.mac-connect.com/
    http://www.apple.com/business/mac_pc/tutorials.html
For my needs, I have a switched ethernet network. All computers are connected to the switch, as is the modem, by ethernet cable. This allows computer to computer networking using AppleTalk. With the same cabling and switch, the computers are all able to connect to the internet using DHCP, or, one at a time using PPPoE.
These are all Mac's, but, with some setting adjustments, a PC can also be placed in a similar network.
As well, adding a wireless connection for one computer is possible. This would require a wireless base station to be connected to the switch. The wireless capable computer would then be able to enter the network, and vice-versa. Of course, the settings for all the hardware and software are the key. The settings can have variables, depending on what is connected, and how the connections are made. Another variable is your router/modem, and your internet service providers policies on multiple connections.
Adding the printer depends on the capabilities of the printer. Often, it is only possible to share a printer through a computer. A network capable printer can be connected to the switch, directly, or to a wireless base station, and then shared by all on the network.

  • How to setup Private VLAN in Small business switch SF200-24

    Dear All,
According release notes 1.4 , private vlan is supported. I've upgraded my SF200-24 with firmware 1.4.0.88 and boot 1.3.5.06. The system information show firmware version 1.4.0.88 and boot version 1.3.5.06 after reboot. I can't find private vlan setup command on GUI. Please help me to setup private vlan. Thanks.

    Hi,
Unfortunately PVLAN is not supported on 200 series. However you might be able to overcome this using general port concept.
    for example:
isolated port - general 10P (PVID), 30U, drop tagged traffic
    community - 20UP, 30U, drop tagged traffic
    promiscuous - 30UP, 10U, 20U
    Note: primary vlan 30
    does it address your requirements?
    Aleksandra

  • How to setup my network? Several Devices

Hello I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to setup my network. I have both N enabled devices (mac pro, macbook, apple tv) as well as G only devices (PS3, vonage phone, dell computer). I want to use my airport extreme to work in N -only mode at 5GHz and my old Linksys WRT54G to work with the older G only devices.
What is the most efficient way of doing this?
Will I lose speed/range be setting the A.Extreme on b/g compatible mode at 2.4GHZ?
Can I connect my airport extreme to my cable modem and the linksys to one of the ports of the airport extreme?

Will I lose any speed by connecting my airport extreme in N mode to a slower wrt54g? Is there any difference if I do it the other way around (the wrt54g to the airport extreme?) Can I do that?
Since you would be connected them via Ethernet the wireless bandwidth of one won't affect the wireless bandwidth of the other.
Also if I use the mixed mode (b/g compatible 2.4Ghz mode, will I lose speed?
If any 802.11b/g clients use the network, yes the 802.11n clients will suffer.

  • How To Setup 2 Networks - One "N" & One "G"

Hi all and Happy New Year!
Basically, what I want to do is to setup 2 networks at home, one based purely on 802.11n & the other based on 802.11g.
I would probably name them as something like Home 'N' & Home 'G' in the new setup.
The reasoning behind this is that we have a number of devices, some of which are "N" capable and some of which are only "G" capable. From what I've read, if I set up the network to run in compatibility mode to allow the G clients access, the whole network slows to G speeds.
    We have the following devices suffixed by what I understand are there wireless capabilities;
Imac - N (using ethernet currently)
MBP - N (wireless connection currently)
    Windows Laptop x 2 - N (wireless connection currently)
    XBOX 360 - N (wireless connection currently)
    PS3 - ? (ethernet into AE currently)
PSP - G (I believe this is WEP only but am open to correction)
DSi X 2 - G (WEP only for Nintendo WFC connections)
    Iphones - G
So what I want to do is to have the N devices connecting to the N network, and the G devices connecting to the G network, thereby allowing both networks to run at their full speeds.
In terms of equipment, I have a 500gb Time Capsule (not the new dual band version), an Airport Express (bought last year brand new), and I also have my old Netgear DG834N modem/router which can be brought out of retirement if needed.
I'm also considering purchasing another AE to use for AirTunes/network extension when I'm exercising out the back in another room. (Probably not relevant, but may require additional setup help).
Currently, the Imac is ethernet wired to the TC which is ethernet wired to an X-MODEM M3 for our internet connection. The TC is set to 802.11n in compatibility mode with b/g, and is used to backup my mbp/imac, which I'd like to keep it doing.
The AE is in the living room with the PS3 ethernet wired into it and an sp/dif optical out to the Denon Amp for AirTunes.
The AE is set to extend the existing wireless network.
Now, it may not be possible to do what I want to do with my current equipment, and if that's the case, then any suggestions as to additional requirements along with idiot-proof walkthroughs will be much appreciated!
However, if what I want to do is possible by re-jigging my current setup, then again, any and all help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Rick

With the powerline adapters, you would plug one adapter into an AC wall socket near the Time Capsule and connect a short ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the ethernet adapter.
Plug another powerline adapter into an AC socket near the location where you want the Airport Express (AX) and connect the AX to the ethernet adapter with a short ethernet cable.
If you go with the AX in the same room as the TC, you'll connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the AX.
The AX would be configured the same in either type of setup.
Configure the AX as follows using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Your choice
Check mark next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = 802.11b/g compatible. You may need to hold down the option key on your Mac when you click on the selection box to see this choice
Security = Same as your TC is using
    Password = Your choice
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and restart both the TC and the AX
If you want the TC to do "n" only, open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
Change the Radio Mode to 802.11n only (2.4 GHz)
    Update to save settings

  • How to setup a HA service for RAC?

    I have a RAC. It has 2 nodes: node1 and node2.
I want to setup a service and make this service only based on node1
only node1 is damaged, then this service will failover to node2
I checked related knowledge at internet.  All the information is related to load balance, not for high available.
For example, below service is load balance:
    srvctl add service -d HIC -s CMTLB -r 'HIC1' -a 'HIC2' -P PRECONNECT -e SELECT -x TRUE -j SHORT -B SERVICE_TIME -m BASIC -z 180 -w 5
Now I want to setup a high available service, how to do?
one more question, I should run "srvctl add service" by user "oracle" or "grid"?

    user8710670 wrote:
Thanks a lot for your information.
Yes, I think my command is good to setup a service.
But this service is a load balance service.
Through this service, all the connections will be put at both nodes.
Currently, my requirement is that I need a service
Through this service, all the connections will only be put at one node,
    until this node damaged,
then the connections are put at another node
Do we have a way for this case?
Your service will not run on both nodes. It will run on one and failover to the other. However, a better way would be to define it as a policy manged service, which may be what you are thinking of.
