How to setup Server 2008-2012 R2 to auto-install 3rd party updates

I've been searching for about a month now on an easy way to install third party software updates  for individual workstations using the company's server.
We have two, one is a 2008 server and the other is 2012 R2.
Is there any way I can set it up to where the updates will auto install without prompts or effecting productivity?

Hi Rick
there is no way you can set this up using existing built-in tools inside windows server. You would need to setup your existing infrastructure using some 3rd party tools.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Mohit

    Hi,
I have to plan for the Database backup on SQL Server 2008 & 2012 on a shared Path.
We are building a new Maintenance plan &  specify the Database which needs to be backup & at the Folder location we specify the Shared Path Location. These steps I have followed using the below link,

    Hello,
    >>'\\DBBackup\SharePoint_backup\DB_backup_2014_02_13_122719_5314660.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
This clearly points out to fact that your SQL Server service account does not have permission of read/write on shared location, simple.
    >>But when I open the shared path in the Windows Explorer it opens successfully.
This is because when you are browsing through explorer your windows login credential is used to access that folder but when you are running backup your SQL Server service account permission is used to write backup on shared folder ( which I assume it does
not have ) so the access denied error.
    Hope this helps
PS: I reffered the link its maily how you specify backup path its not about access denied error due to SQL server service acount not having privilege

  • Server 2008,2012 antivirus ideas?

I need to be able to configure an antivirus on my windows server 2008,2012 for class, without internet access.
The two different antivirus I've tried required with windows server compatibility internet access to sign in to an email-connected account
The antivirus must be free, have a 30 day trial, or use license keys.
any ideas of antivirus to use would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) is not a free product but definitely you can use trial ware to evaluate the product. Symnatec offers Enterprise Edition, Small Business Edition & SEP.clould is also available.

  • How to install 3rd party counters?

Is it possible to install 3rd party counters such as NeoWorks counters
in iWeb 06? I saw it mentioned in this forum but I am thinking it only
works in iWeb 08, or am I wrong, and if so, how can the html code be inserted?
I see an "insert" menu option Insert/choose....is this it? and what would I choose?
    thank you,
    todd

Ok I just downloaded BBedit. Now before I dive into the big manual can
you give me the quick take on where to past widget code? Do I insert and
the front before the original index code or at the end? If at the end, is it
    just before the </head.<body><body></html>
    or after that
I tried inserting at the very front and it appeared momentarily on the published document but was then quickly covered over by the original page.

    Hello Scott,
The Visual Studio 2012 SDK need Visual Studio 2012 but not Visual Studio 2013. Please make sure you will use Visual Studio 2012 on your OS.
Here are the system requirement of that:
    Supported Operating System
                        Windows 7 Service Pack 1; Windows 8; Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1; Windows Server 2012
    Windows 7 SP1 (x86 and x64)
    Windows 8 (x86 and x64)
    Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x64)
    Windows Server 2012 (x64)
    Hardware Requirements:
    1.6 GHz or faster processor
1 GB of RAM (1.5 GB if running on a virtual machine)
300 MB of available hard disk space
    5400 RPM hard drive
DirectX 9-capable video card running at 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution
    Prerequisites:
Visual Studio Professional 2012 or higher
Here higher means Visual Studio 2012 higher version, for example, Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate.
If you want Visual Studio 2013 to work, I think you need to install the Visual Studio 2013 SDK.

  • SQL Server 2008/2012 Express Connection Problem

    Hello,
since a couple of days I'm working on a problem with the SQL Server Express (32-Bit as well as 64Bit).
I installed a new SQL Server 2008 with an instance named SQL2012 and the Management Studio 2008 R2 on the same machine. I easily am abled to connect to the Server using the Management Studio with several Server Name settings (localhost, IP, (local), .\SQL2012).
Now I have a self-written programm (C#) wich should connect to the Server, but it does not work. It is definitely not a problem of the programm code because the same programm is abled to connect to a SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. Similar Problem with
the 2012 Express Version (2012 Enterprise not tested).
    The connection string I use and wich is working with connecting on the Enterprise Edition is: Server=Servername\Instance;Database=DatabaseName;User Id=user;Password=password;
Anybody any solution why the Express-Version refuses to connect?
(Sorry if I have made several failures in my text, English is not my native language)

It Occurs when I try to ping.Send the Server to see if he is active. If I skip this step and try to connect directly to the server (con.Open()) I get the exception:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The
server was not found or it can not be accessed. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server allows remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Connection with the SQL Server couldn't be opened)

  • How "hide" SQL Server Express 2012 from the network

    Hello
I want to install SQL Server Express 2012 in my company-provided laptop. Since the service is going to "announce" itself on the network so that client can find it, I would like to know how to prevent the broadcasting, in such a way that my installation remains
    "hidden".
    Thanks a lot.

    Sudeepta,
If the browser service was stopped named instances (unless specified on tcp port 1433) shouldn't connect. It was have to be specified as Hostname\InstanceName,PortNumber as part of the role for the browser service is named instance port lookup.
    EMoscosoCam,
Sudeepta is correct though, the browser service is reponsible for best effort udp broadcast replies. It is also possible to keep the browser service running and use the "Hide Instance" feature in SQL Server Configuration Manager. Open up SSCM, expand SQL
Server Network Configuration. Right-click on the instance to "hide" and choose properties. Under the Flags tab should be "Hide Instance", set this to yes.
While both ways would work, the actual hiding on an instance is extremely hard with SQL Server due to port scanning. If better security around it is required you will have to work with your networking team to develop well defined firewall rules.

    Please help!
    Samnang.

    Hi SSamnang,
According to your description, you come across the error that the specific account already exists. Please help to share the complete error log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20150102_161500\SSCRuntime_Cpu32_1.log. You could
use google drive to upload the error log following the steps in the article:
    https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2424368?hl=en
From the exception help link, we notice that, the issue could be due to that an attempt fails to install SQL Server Native Client on a computer where SQL Server Native Client is already installed.
I recommend you to check if there is already an existing SQL Server Native Client on your computer. If there is an existing one, you could uninstall it and install SQL Server again.
In addition, there is a similar thread for reference:

  • Server 2008 R2 continously trying to apply a failed update

    Hi
I have a server 2008 r2 machine that happens to be an exchange server. It recently received server updates (for windows not exchange) of which one failed. these updates are managed with a gpo and are controlled on the local network. How could go about getting
rid of this annoyance? everytime the server reboots it tries to install this update and it goes into a retry loop for about 40 minutes until it decides that its not going to work afterall.
Its preventing me from installing any other software since it complains that installer service can't be accessed.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
The event logs report a number of failed updates all of them using the same error code: 0x80070643

I wrongly thought that is was the NSClient++ that produced the error, sorry for that, but googling on the text in your screen shot indicate it is a Windows error. I have never seen that error before, but there are several MS KB articles with different
    solutions regarding this error:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2642495/en-us
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353/en-us
For instance, since re-installing the Windows Installer didn't help, the issue might be resolved by step 6 in
KB315353 because I don't believe that a re-install in fact would reset the permissions.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Replication - not applying snapshot and not updating all repliacted columns

We are using transactional replicating on SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) using a remote distributor. We are replicating from BaanLN, which is an ERP application to up to 5 subscribers, all using push publications.
Tables can range from a couple million rows to 12 million rows and 100's of GBs in size.
And it's due to the size of the tables that it was designed with a one publisher to one table architecture.
Until recently it has been working very smooth (last four years)) but we have come across two issues I have never encountered.
While this has happen a half dozen times before, it last occurred a couple weeks ago when I was adding three new publications, again a one table per publication architecture.
We use standard SS repl proc calls to create the publications, which have been successful for years.
On this occasion replication created the three publications, assigned the subscribers and even generated the new snapshot for all three new publications.
However,  while it appeared that replication had created all the publications correctly from end to end, it actually only applied one of the three snapshot and created the new table on both of the new subscribers (two on each of the
publications).  It only applied the snapshot to one of the two subscribers for the second publications, and did not apply to any on the third.
I let it run for three hours to see if it was a back log issue.
Replication was showing commands coming across when looking at the sync verification at the publisher and
it would even successfully pass a tracer token through each of the three new publications, despite there not being tables on either subscriber on one of the publishers and missing on one of the subscribers on another.
I ended up attempting to reinitialize roughly a dozen times, spanning a day, and one of the two remaining publications was correctly reinitialized and the snapshot applied, but the second of the two (failed) again had the same mysterious result, and
again looked like it was successful based on all the monitoring.
So I kept reinitializing the last and after multiple attempts spanning a day, it too finally was built correctly.
Now the story only get a little stranger.  We just found out yesterday that on Friday the 17th
at 7:45, the approximate time started the aforementioned deployment of the three new publications,
we also had three transaction from a stable and vetted publication send over all changes except for a single status column.
This publication has 12 million rows and is very active, with thousands of changes daily.
, The three rows did not replicate a status change from a 5 to a 6.
We verified that the status was in fact 6 on the publisher, and
5 on both subscribers, yet no messages or errors.  All the other rows successfully updated.
We fixed it by updating the publication from 6 back to 5 then back to 6 again on those specific rows and it worked.
The CPU is low and overall latency is minimal on the distributor.
From all accounts the replication is stable and smooth, but very busy.
The issues above have only recently started.  I am not sure where to look for a problem, and to that end, a solution.

I suspect the problem with the new publication/subscriptions not initializing may have been a result of timeouts but it is hard to say for sure.  The fact that it eventually succeeded after multiple attempts leads me to believe this.  If this happens
again, enable verbose agent logging for the Distribution Agent to see if you are getting query timeouts.  Add the parameters
-OutputVerboseLevel 2 -Output C:\TEMP\DistributionAgent.log to the Distribution Agent Run Agent job step, rerun the agent, and collect the log.
If you are getting query timeouts, try increasing the Distribution Agent -QueryTimeOut parameter.  The default is 1800 seconds.  Try bumping this up to 3600 seconds.
Regarding the three transactions not replicating, inspect MSrepl_errors in the distribution database for the time these transactions occurred and see if any errors occurred.

  • How to get alerts out of SCOM and into a 3rd party management tool

    Hi
I  am creating an integration between a 3rd party management tool and System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2.  I need to export alerts such as Power Off / Power On / Configuration change for both virtual machines and hyperv servers from SCOM
into our application. Our application runs on linux so I cannot do any .NET programming, however I can run Powershell scripts remotely using WinRM.
What is the best way to do this? I am aware of using the powershell cmdlet Get-SCOMAlert but is there any other way that does not involve polling?
    thanks in advance

Think of Orchestrator as a "router", that will route information and workflows between SCOM, and [insert 3rd party product here].  Depending on your 3rd party product, there may be an "integration pack" for it that Orchestrator can use for out of the
    box tasks.
So what's an integration pack?  Well - think of it like a management pack, but for Orchestrator.  SCOM does monitoring, but it doesn't know how to monitor something unless you install the relevant management pack.  The management pack contains
all the rules/monitors for monitoring whatever it is you wish to monitor.
Well, an integration pack is similar in concept, except it tells Orchestrator how to interface and integrate with whatever it is you're trying to perform tasks with.
For what you want to do, there is a SCOM integration pack.  This is a set of tasks that can get alerts and events out of Operations Manager (there are also tasks that can create and close alerts in Operations Manager).
From what I can imagine - you would want to get alerts out of SCOM when they happen (so you would use one of the SCOM orchestrator tasks to "get alert if status = new, and source = myapplication"), and then you can pass that alert to another task - such
as write it to a CSV file or something.  You could then have another task that picks up that CSV file, and passes it to your application where it can be captured.  Or you could use the CSV to populate variables in a powershell script, and then powershell
    that information into your app.
There are many ways you could do this, but I do believe that Orchestrator would be the better option.

  • 2012 R2 CAU keeps installing the same update.

I am trying to CAU a 12 node cluster with WIN2012R2.
CAU keeps installing the same update on same node for several KB2461484.
I tried several times to update the same node through CAU and windows Update along with rebooting the node but nothing changes.
When I run CAU it always picks same node and tries to install the same update.
    Any ideas?

    Hi trialex,
If you are using WSUS please confirm you have approve this update to your cluster nodes, if you are using WUA please try to install the update manually then monitor the issue
    again.

  • How can I Downgrade to Snow Leopard and keeping all 3rd party apps?

New to MacBookPro and really happy. With Lion...not so much. I want to downgrade to SL, however, apparently I must reformat the hard drive. Here´s the real question: If I have a backup of my entire HD with the user, docs and all the apps I have installed (on Lion), once I downgrade to Snow Leopard, can I just move all my apps from the back up disk I have made of my Lion-Running hard drive? In other words, How can I downgrade without having to reinstall every single third party app I have?

First, how new is this Mac?  A Mac as a rule cannot boot to an older operating system version than that with which it was originally supplied.  In other words, if this is a new MBP that came with Lion then you probably cannot get it to boot to SL.
Some applications (and I take it you do mean full "applications" rather than "apps" which are mobile device programs -- it helps to be clear o terminology) can just be dragged from place to place.  Others, notably Adobe and Office, install things all over the place and unless you are good at finding hidden files with obscure names in 10 different places you will just have to re-install them.
