How to setup WinME TCP with wired connection to WRT54G?

I have a WinME computer that I'm trying to connect directly (via network cable) to a WRT54G router. I have an XP computer connected directly to the router and another XP connected via a wireless router, but I can't seem to figure out the settings to get the internet connection on the WinME computer to work, though the network neighborhood is working fine. I tried before to get a wireless connection on the WinME computer, but was unsuccessful (same thing; the network neighborhood worked fine; tried the internet access fix with Winsock to no avail). Now that I've moved all of the computers together into the same room, I thought I would try again using a direct connection, but I can't remember what the settings are for the network TCP/IP protocol? Putting the router's IP address in the gateway block does not seem to do anything. I can't even remember where I found all of the info before.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm not using static addresses (except for the router). Here's the setup:
Internet Connection Type Static IP
Internet IP Address: . . . 206.183.182.233
Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.255. 0
Gateway: . . . 206.183.182. 1
Static DNS 1: . . . 206.183.176. 2
Static DNS 2: . . . 216.168. 84. 2
Network Setup
Local IP Address: . . . 192.168. 5. 1
Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.255. 0
Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)
DHCP Server: Enable
Starting IP Address . . . 192.168. 5.100
I've tried both IE and Firefox. I have tried using static IPs to no avail. What should the DNS and gateway settings on the WinME computer be?
Thanks!

my wireless download could hit 600KB/s constantly but when i am wired, download is at 1.8MB/s but it only lasts for 5seconds max then everything slows down to 1KB/s, anyone knows whats the problem?
    cheers

The 4.30.7 version is located on the on the UK site.  This is whats loaded on the new WRT54GL's shipped from the California warehouse.
    4.30.5
    4.30.7
If you are not comfortable with loading the .7 I included the link for .5
As for the slow down.... What is your connection?  Cable or DSL?  Does this happen at certain times during the day or all the time?  Reason I ask is where I live is a new subdivision and more people are moving in.  They are getting cable internet because I can see new networks popping up when I scan.  During the day I get slow speeds as well but early morning and late at night everything goes back to normal.  I really get slow when kids in the neighborhood have the day off from school.
I use port 65534 with Azureus.  I port forward 65534 on my router and Azureus works as it should.  I test my ports when I open or close them at ShieldsUp.  When I test 65534 it tells me that it can not detect the port although its open because Azureues uses it to connect.  I remove the port from forwarding and Azureues tells me there is an error and cant connect.

  • Can i use the airport express in my hotel with wired connection?

I'm going to be traveling quite a bit coming up and staying in hotels with wired internet connections in the room.  Can i use the airport express to connect with the hotel's internet connection and then my ipad and/or iphone 4S?  I'm new to Apple products so will certainly appreciate any info that may help.  Thank you!

You will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the iPad and/or iPhone. It is free on the App Store
    App Store - AirPort Utility
Connect the AirPort Express 802.11n to the hotel Ethernet jack using an Ethernet cable
Power up the AirPort Express and wait 40-45 seconds
Tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi on the iPad
Tap the AirPort Express under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will take a moment to to analyze the connection and then you can proceed with the easy guided setup
Once the AirPort Express is configured, you should not have to set it up again at the next hotel. But, you could if you want to.

  • How to setup Slingbox AV with Linksys E2500

I just purchased a new Linksys E2500 and I am unable to setup internet viewing with it.  I have went in and done the port forwarding and still I have not had any success.  I would appreciate any helpful information.

So the concern that you said is the configuration of the Router ( E2500 ) at home.. So could please inform us the name of the ISP( Internet Service Provider )... So it all depends upon the ISP( Internet Service Provider ) setup...
If you want to configure the router with the help of the CD so for that you need to unistall the existing Cisco Connect Software from the computer...
Reset the Router and power cycle the network...Make the following connectivity:
     Modem ----> Router -----> Computer
They all should be connected with the Ethernet Cable... Then install the Cisco Connect Software... It will help you in configuring the Router...
As far as Slingbox is concern you did port forwarding but until and unless you are not online it would work....

  • How to setup a group with autentication

    Hi, Every body,
I am new in this forum, I found Stratus is a so exciting platform, now I need your help.
I want to setup a group with posting autentication, in the group, some one has the posting right, others have not. I found the "groupspecWithAuthentication, groupspecWithoutAuthentication,  encodePostingAuthorization, setPostingPassword" etc. but I cant understand how to use them.
I have dived in this forum and the reference of Stratus 2.0 beta( here) for several days, and I have tried the samples posted by Mike, and I have study almost all threads in this forum, but I still cant find the clue.
Please help me out, thanks advanced,

Thank you, Mike, for your timely reply. Forgive me the delay, because now is our most important festival, I just back from a party.
Now I understand, but I still wonder,
    1. if a group is in running, and a authorized user has joined. Now he misdoes, I want to withdraw the authentication, how can I? revise the password and recreate the group?
    2. How can I setup a group, just authorized users can join? I know I can use secret group name, but if authorized user divulge the group name, others without autentication can join the group too. ( because the swf easy to reverse, hacker can sniff the opaque groupspec string, revise the swf, impersonate authorized user, etc).
    3. How can I banishment a misdoer from my group?
    Thanks again for your time.

  • How to run an applet with JDBC connectivity on a web browser

I've created an Applet in Java with SQL connectivity...i.e. it retrieves certain data from a table in SQL and puts in the TextField.....
Now, the problem is that this Applet works in NETBEANS....but fails to work when I use a web-browser..or the "appletviewer" command....
It says that it doesn't have permission to access local files....On Research, i've found that it is somethin' related to the concept of "Signed Applets", "Permissions" & "Security Policies" in java which doesn't allow any applet (without Certificate) to access Local Files.....
Can Somebody please tell how to overcome this problem.....?

I'm going to be blunt with you. You are most likely going to have to redesign your application from scratch. And if it turns out you don't have to then you should anyway because it's a bad idea and fraught with peril.
Anyway here the major touchpoints on this discussion. You can be the judge of how these various points apply to you.
    - Applets are restricted. - Yes Applets have a number of security restrictions on what they can or cannot do. This is designed to protect users from malicious applets. By signing your applet you can request permission from the user to do certain activities that are otherwise restricted. But not all.
    - If you are using the JDBC-ODBC bridge then you need a different driver. If you sign your applet it might work in some limited scenarios but it will be hairy and is discouraged.
    - If you are using Access or another file based database (CSV Excel etc) then you are doomed. You'll have to get yourself a different database. A non file based one. It doesn't matter if you sign your applet or not. You're still doomed.
    - If you are trying to connect to a database server that is not at the same physical address as your web server you are doomed. Signing the applet will not help
    - Connecting directly to a database from an applet is extremely risky business. Starting with now anyone can steal your username and password for your database quite easily.
What you should do in the redesign is put all the database accessing code in a Servlet. This Servlet does not have to be Java, it could be PHP, Perl, ASP, etc. It doesn't matter. Just put it on the server side. Then have your applet connect to this code via a webservice to do what is required.

  • How to setup wireless printing with AirPort Express?

Hey, I just bought a AirPort Express today and I can't figure out how to setup the usb wireless printing. Could someone explain in detail on how to do this? Thanks-Michael
    I have a Windows 7 64-bit PC and a Hp Deskjet F380 USB printer.

Download the install Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
Run the program. Hopefully, your printer will be recognized.
If it is, "install" the printer and try to print.
Keep in mind that if you have an All-in-One type of device, that only the print function will be supported.
Advanced features like copy, scan, maintenance, etc are not supported. You will need to connect the All-in-One directly to your PC if you need those services.

  • How to setup remote access with E4200?

    Hi,
I am new to this and I need help from you all on how to setup the E4200 so that I can access the media server when I am in office?  Is there a guide or step by step procedure on this?  I was browsing on the Cisco website and unable to find it.

The purpose of using DDNS is it substitutes the public/WAN ip address provided by your ISP.We all know that the ip address provided by our ISP(if we are not subscribe to a premium static ip address) is basically public and will always change from time to time.So it will be difficult for us to know what's the ip address our ISP has provided us and this will lead us problems accessing our router or ftp server remotely. Thus by using DDNS' it will now allow us to access the router remotely without knowing what's the WAN ip address.

  • How do I setup Airport express with ethernet connection to my modem?

Hi there - hoping to get some helpg as I'm having challnges setting up my Airport express via ethernet cable connection directly to my router.  It will setup wirelessly no problem, but I occasionally get dropouts when streaming music and I'm hoping to remedy that with a direct cable connection.  I know I have to change some settings in my airport utility, but haven't had any luck getting it right.
Here is my setups if it helps:
Airport express, 1st generation, model A1264
Cisco router (provided by my intenet provider)
    Macbook Air, running 10.8.5
    Airport utility version 6.3.1
    Thanks!
    Phil

Unfortunately, you are getting incorrect advice here. Might be a good idea to start a new post, since the original thread is long out of date.
First, please confirm that you have a compatible Express with the AirPort Extreme. This would be either the current A1392 version.....or the previous A1264 version.
Next, we need to confirm "how' you want to extend, since you do not mention this in your post.
Are you planning to "extend" by connecting the AirPort Express to the AirPort Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet connection (highly recommended).....or.....are you trying to "extend" by having the Express try to connect wirelessly to the AirPort Extreme?

  • Best setup for new airport with wired connection to old airport extreme (4th gen)

I have an AirPort Extreme (4th gen) in my basement (of a three story house) connected directly to the Fios box (I am not using the Verizon g router).  The new AirPort (ac) is connected to the old one by in-wall Cat 6e to an upstairs bedroom.  Can/should I turn off wifi on the n router for best wireless performance?  What would the optimal setup be?
On the airport utility I selected "replace existing Airport" and the new ac router is up and running and working fine.  I wonder whether the fact that wifi on the old Airport is still on may be good for coverage around the house, but compromising the wireless bandwidth/speed?  I haven't noticed any speed issues yet, but I do a lot of video streaming so I want to ensure I have the best setup.  Range doesn't seem to be a major issue in my house.  It is more important to me to have strong wifi signal upstairs.
    Thanks in advance for advice.

If the AirPorts are connected using Ethernet, then no bandwidth is being lost on the network. Keep the wireless functions "on" at both AirPorts for additional wireless coverage and speed.

  • How to setup airport express with time machine

just bought airport express so i can extend my wifi range, can anybody help on how to set up! I have time machine 2gb, my house is wired with cat6 cable in all the bed rooms, but now only half my house get wifi,so i want to extend it.I know i have to go into air utility and change some stuff, but sure what stuff?

I assume that this is a new AirPort Express and you have not tried to configure it previously.
Locate the AirPort Express in the general area where you would like to have more wireless signal coverage.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the back of the AirPort Express
Power up the AirPort Express and let it run a few minutes. The amber light will be blinking slowly at this point.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically on your Mac, take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the AirPort Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Express and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything for you. When you see the indication of Setup Complete, click Done.
    You should be all set.

  • How to setup a network with a time capsule, airport extreme and an airport express?

    Hello.
First I want to make it clear all my knowledge off wireless networks is going on forums on the internet, before a couple of months ago I didn't realize wireless networking was so intricate so forgive my lack of experience.
I just bought a time capsule (today, 4th generation), I have an airport extreme bought in January 2011 (they just got refreshed so mine is now one generation old) and the same with my airport express (bought in January).
I originally bought the airport extreme and setup a wireless network using the dual band setup.  I have no issues with the 5ghz network and most of my devices run on wireless n so I had no issues with them.  my only two wireless devices that can not use the 5ghz network is my iPhone 4's which use wireless n but it has to use the 2.4ghz signal.  Problem is in my apartment I am bombarded with other peoples 2.4ghz networks so my signal is terrible 10-15 feet from the airport extreme.  Near my extreme I am getting signal ranges around 15mb to 20 mb.  When Im about 15 minutes away in my bedroom (so one wall in between) my signal plummets to 1-2 mb. sometimes as low as 0.17mb which is not good.  I got the airport express to extend my range and placed it in my bedroom. .  After setting up the airport express the signal still was terrible.  I researched and realized that if the signal strength ***** then the airport express cant boost the signal as much which makes sense in hind sight.  I then researched setting up a roaming network or a WDS network.  Per research a WDS network was not recommended b/c I was not using a wireless g network.  I attempted to create a roaming network and then realized that you can not use an airport express in a roaming network.  This has led me to now buy a time capsule.
First, in my setup do I or should I have the time capsule as the primary?  I believe its more powerful than the airport extreme but Im not sure if that matters in a network that is distributing wifi from ethernet (thats how I am connected the extreme and the time capsule)
    so can I do
cable modem ETHERNET  Airport extreme(in the living room where its always been and works great in that immediate area) (3rd generation)  ETHERNET Time Capsule(in the bedroom where I usually get poor signal) (4th gen)  and then an airport express connecting to the 2.4ghz signal in the bedroom where the time capsule also is EXTENDING the wireless range?
or should it be the time capsule first bc its more powerful?
I tried setting up this setup and everything is green but I don't know if what I am doing is actually working on full cylinders b/c I am confused on some aspects.  mainly  on the airport extreme which is the primary device I have under the wireless tab selected create a wireless network and on the time capsule it also is on create a wireless network with the network name being exactly the same.  Should it be changed to extend a wireless network? and then bridge mode?  Should I have different channels for the different devices that are on 2.4ghz?
I am open to hear ANY suggestions, or ideas to improve my setup.  PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!, lol  its been 5 long months of poor internet in my bedroom where my wife has her setup with a roku box and wifi tv (I have those hardwired for now) but mainly for her iPad and iPhone b/c its so bad sometimes she has to turn wifi off and use 3G.  I have same issue in my bathroom, sometimes Im getting decent signal and sometimes its so bad I can't open the link on an RSS feed in safari which I have to assume doesn't require that much bandwith?
I have no wireless g devices.  The only device I need 2.4ghz for is my iPhone 4's but they both use n also.  All my other deivices connect on 5ghz and my 5ghz network is decent, a lot better than the 2.4ghz network atleast.

You wrote so much that I find it hard to address all your concerns.  However, here are some thoughts:
    1) I'd configure the Time Capsule as the "main" router, connected directly to your cable modem.  Configure it to "create a wireless network" and to "Allow this network to be extended".  Configure the other devices to "Extend a wireless network".
    2) Put any device that's extending the network half way between the main router and the wireless clients.  If the signal from the main router is weak at the cllient's location, then the extending device will also receive a weak signal.

  • Cannot connect to Internet wirelessly or with wired connection

    Hi!
I have a wireless linksys router connected to a wired linksys router (for vonage). My PC is wired to the wireless router and works fine. My Powerbook G4 was working fine on the wireless network too.
Then, I decided to try to add an Airport Express just for streaming music (it is not wired to the wireless router). I have messed something up. Now, even with the AE unplugged, I can log onto the Linksys network, but the Internet connection does not work. Also, when I Turn Airport Off and wire directly into the router from my G4, I cannot use the Internet.
I've restarted everything I can think of. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Sounds like you need to restart the modem and hard reset the Linksys router which is connected to it. Then reconfigure that Linksys router and verify connection (Ethernet and/or wireless). After you get that setup you can add the other devices.
