How to share a printer between 2 networked imacs..

i have a canon pixma 780 connected via usb to my alum intel mac which is running leopard and can be connected to the network via wireless or ethernet.
i also have a g4 imac that is running under tiger with no printer attached and it is attached to the network via the airport card. the network is only these 2 computers.
how can i print from the g4 to the printer on the alum imac? printer sharing is set on for both computers.

On the iMac, open the Printer Setup Utility (Applications > Utilities), click Add and then select the Default Browser view. The MP780 should appear in the view as a shared printer. Click on it and then click Add. This is all that should be required.

  • HT2275 Do I need to choose "Share this printer on the network" for printers that are not connected directly to my MacBook Pro? I have two HP printers connected to an Airport Extreme (WiFi turned off). I connect by WiFi to another Airport Extreme w cable t

I have three Airport Extreme (AE) routers in my home network.
The main AE is set up for wifi access. The other two are connected by ethernet cables to the main AE. My MacBook Pro connects to the network wirelessly through the main AE. The AE in my office has two HP printers connected to it by ethernet cables. I have a Kodak All-in-one that is connected by USB to my MacBook Pro.
I reset my printer connections on my MacBook Pro and had to add all the printers back to my printer list. I don't know if I understand what the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" in the Print & Fax System Preferences window is for. My guess is that I don't need to share printers unless they are connected to my MacBook Pro by USB, so I should uncheck the "Share this printer on the network" box for the two HP printers that are connected to the AE. I print to them over the network, but they're not connected directly to any computer. I thought if my MacBook Pro wasset to share them and was shutdown, the printers might not be available to my Mac mini or Dell PC, which connect by ethernet to the office AE (which has the two printers connected to it).
    What should I do?
For printers connected directly to a Mac (or PC) by USB, check the "Share this printer on the network" box? In my Sharing Preferences, I check "Share Printers."
For printers connected to the AE by ethernet, UNcheck the "Share this printer on the network" box on my Macs (& PCs?) when I add the printers to my printer list? In my Sharing Preferences, I UNcheck "Share Printers?"

Question is - will the 2 networks (using auto channel negotiations) exist well in the same house or will there be interference?
Things will be fine since the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme will automatically search for a good wireless channel. If you assign a separate name for the wireless network, then devices will need to log in separately to this network. The extending device will need to be configured in Bridge Mode.
My suggestion would be to configure what is known as a "roaming" network in your question #2. In this case, you would assign the same wireless network name, security and password settings to the extending device and configure it in Bridge Mode.
The advantage to #2 is that you will be able to walk your laptop from a location near the Time Capsule and as you move close to the extending device, the laptop will automatically switch to pick up the stronger signal from the extending AirPort.
You are actually creating a separate network in #2, so you have the advantage of maximum bandwidth for both the TC network and the AirPort network.
Question - does the Airport Express have to be directly connected to the TC or can that connected be through a switched network?
I'm assuming that you are asking about an Ethernet switch here, correct?  The AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme can connect to the Ethernet switch, or directly back to a LAN port on the Time Capsule, whichever is easier to setup.
Question 2 - assuming I can connect the Airport Express to the TC over a switched network, will "extending" the network using the Ethernet network still reduce my overall wireless bandwidth?
Connecting the remote device using Ethernet is by far the best way to extend a wireless network because it maintains maximum bandwidth on the network. This is the way that any good commercial network is designed.
Post back if you need any tips to get things setup.

  • How to share the data between two or more frames

How to share the data between two or more frames based on the database relationship in JDeveloper?

You can pass data between frames by passing it as parameters.
That is when you are invoking another frame, pass your data as arguments through the constructor to that frame .
You can also achieve this through static or public methods, but static variables as we know is not suggested which might occupy more memory space.

  • How to share contacts from ipad2 with older iMac running 10.6.2?

How to share contacts from ipad2 with older iMac running 10.6.2?

Well I guess I was too optimistic. Since last posting I have had three hang events, one during reboot. When the login dialog box came up I clicked on it and it hung.
However I do have a new data point. I have enabled the remote login (sshd). I have discovered that when the system hangs like I described above, I can still log in via SSH from my Windows system. The shell appears normal, but when I tried a "killall Safari" command the OS crashed hard. After a hard reset, the system hung during the login process. Again I could login remotely, and that time I executed a "sudo reboot" via the remote session. That cleared the display to all-blue but did not successfully reboot.
Can anyone suggest what to try via the remote login to help diagnose what is happening? I am familiar with typical Linux architecture but the differences in Mac OS X are leaving me a bit disoriented.

How to know if your mac is using the latest Haswell architecture processor or not? and how to know the difference between the new imac and the 2012/13 imac?

Sorry to reopen an old post, but I've just purchased a 2nd hand late-2013 iMac (or so thats what the seller said).
I'm always sceptical though, and just wanted to know if there is a way to check if my iMac is indeed the late-2013 model that included Haswell?
I've attached screenshots of the About This Mac section hoping it may help shed some light.
Thank you in advance for your help!
PS - I can't compare to the iMac specs link you posted above because its now showing the late-2014 models.

  • How do I share my printer between my two Windows 7 systems?

Some users find that they have a non-networked printer that worked fine in a mixed Windows environment, but found their two Windows 7 printers (one host and one client) are not able to share the printer.
Windows 7 handles networking differently than previous versions of Windows.
The easiest way to get started with sharing printers between multiple Windows 7 computers is to setup a HomeGroup.  A HomeGroup is a way to authorize different Windows 7 computers to talk to each other and share resources.  Microsoft has a good article about HomeGroups that has links to various guides.
Once the HomeGroup is setup, the next step is to setup a host for the USB printer.
This article from Microsoft details how to enable file and printer sharing, sharing the printer, and the basic steps of adding the printer.
The first two sections are fine as they are, but I would like to expand on adding a shared printer to the other Windows 7 computers.
This process tends to have the greatest success with sharing printers in Windows 7.  Most USB only printers do have a driver available in Windows.
    1.  Go to Start>Devices and Printers.
    2.  Click on Add a printer at the top.
    3.  While it is a networked printer, it is not the current network standard printer.  Select Add a local printer.
    4.  Select Create a new port with a local port for type.
    5.  Enter \\<host computer name>\<printer name> without the < > symbols.  The host computer name is the name of the computer that has the printer attached to it.  If you do not know that name, go to the host computer and go to Start>Right-click Computer>Properties.  The computer name will be listed here.  The printer's share name was selected in a previous step in the Microsoft article.
    6.  Click Ok and the printer driver screen will appear.  Click on Windows Update to ensure it is the most current list.
    7.  Select the printer model from that list.
    8.  Follow the rest of the prompts.
At the end of these steps, the printer should be shared from the host computer to the other Windows 7 computers.
Some important notes about this setup:
    1.  Only printing will be functional.
    2.  The host computer must be on for printing to work.
    3.  The host computer could enter standby or suspended mode.  This will interrupt the shared printer on the other systems.
With these steps completed, the printer should be functional on the Windows 7 computers once again.

  • How to Connect My Printer to The Network

My printer is LaserJet M1212nf.  According to the brief introduction I should connect the printer to the network first in order to enable its e-printing function.  I'm working at home.  I don't share information with other computers.  Does "network" mean my home internet?  Do I need to use either a cable or a USB to connect it to the home internet?  Or is there another way?  Once it is connected, how can I get an email address from HP for my printer?

    Hi,
Your printer can be connected to your network to print but it's not an ePrint printer:
          http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf
It has a LAN card, you can connect it to your network and print wirelessly (note: print wirelessly and ePrint are two different things).

  • Can I Share a Printer Between OS X 10.3.9 and 10.5.2?

I posted this question under Mac OS X v10.5, but since I did not get a response so far, I hope this category is more appropriate.
I would appreciate detailed guidance on how to set up printer sharing for two older Macs - assuming that this is even possible in this case. I have the following Macs that work very well independently as well as through a router for internet access.
    1. MacMini, 1.5 GHz, Bluetooth+Airport Extreme (approx. 3 yrs old) running OS X 10.5.2 and using Airport for internet access.
    2. Power Mac G4, 466 MHz (approx. 7 yrs old) running OS X 10.3.9 and connected directly to the router for internet access.
An HP Deskjet 5940 printer was used exclusively with the MacMini, and a Lexmarl Z53 was used exclusively with the G4. The Z53 just reached the end of its life, and thus I disconnected the 5940 from the MacMini and connected it to the G4 where it now works fine.
In spite of all attempts with various settings at each Mac, I have not been able to get any printing done from the MacMini. What detailed settings/connections do I need to make so that I can use that 5940 printer from the MacMini?
    Thanks for your response.

OK, now go to System Preferences > Print & Fax, There, select the Printer you want to Share and lower down Check the box 'Share my Printer with other Computers'. This you do in the G4.
In the Mini, Turn on WiFi, and see if you can see it. If not (mine did not show up the first time), go to Print and Fax and 'Set up new...'. Yours may still be trying to find the one that you put in the device for with solid wire... but that is not the Bonjour one (yes it is, but the computer does not find it because it is not connected exactly as you first installed it). In fact, you do not need the device driver installed on the Mini for this printer, as the G4 has all that and you are using the G4 as a Host (server) for that printer. In Set Up, go for a new printer, and let it locate the Bonjour one, once it does, Lock It In! You have it... also, you do not need Print Sharing ON in the Mini, Just the G4 (Host).
When you go to Print, a list (selection box) shows up, click it, the Bonjour Printer should be at the bottom of the list, with a side selection once you click it... slide over to the Printer Name and click, it will come up into the selection box and you can then Print. It may take a few seconds to lock in with the so called 'hand-shake' ("are you there? yes I am! can I print to you? yes you may! ok, here it comes...") Or Computer-Printer talk like that.
Now, something I did not have to do with my older Printer, but did have to with my newer one, is make 'AppleTalk' Active. It has something to do with printing, or whatever, (can't find much info on it). You will find it in System Preferences > Network > there, 'Location'= Automatic; 'Show' = Airport; 'AppleTalk' = CHECK; 'Configure' = Automatically. It depends on the vintage of the printer and whether this is needed or not. My 1600 didn't, my 2500 does. Don't ask me about this, it is just something I found while searching for answers one day, that had to do with printing... this, after I could not get my New Printer working Like I had my Old one working... that is what made it FLY!!! And yes, my daughter brings her computer over here and uses my High-Speed internet, and also my Printer... she does not have my printer device on hers, we do it all thru WiFi JUMP from my 10.3.9 computer to her 10.4.11 computer. (Your 10.5.2, I am not familiar with, but it should work like-wise)
    Good Luck

  • How to share security context between different application ?

    Hi all,
I have two applications(ADF faces + BC, JDev 10.1.3.1) deployed into OAS 10.1.3.1.
    The two applications are :
    1) SalesApp -> main menu page = SalesMenu.jspx
    2) ReportApp -> main menu page = ReportMenu.jspx
I want implement security using CustomLogin.
    The question is :
How can I share security context between the applications ?
What I mean is, from SalesMenu.jspx there is one menu item to jump into ReportMenu.jspx, and I want user no need to Login again, Login is once and the user is recognized in the two apps. How to achieve that ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Xtanto,
actually you can't if these are separate J2EE application deployments. The session is not shared and thus the authentication is lost. I heard that OracleAs is planning to implement a feature that allows you to share the session and thus a context between two J2EE deployments. I am not 100 % sure this is the case and will check with OC4J Product Management

  • How To Share USB Devices Between Two Mac's?

I am musician and have several USB controllers that I would like to share between my Mac pro and my Macbook Pro. (drum pad, keyboard controller,USB midi interface etc.) I have seen several switches offered on the net, however they all seem to be for PC from what I have found really.
Belkin 7-Port Desktop USB Hub (F4U017) was recommended but the language in the the description does not mirror the same types of functions I am seeing mentioned in units made specifically for the PC. (ie "share USB devices between 2 computers.") Did I taint my mind by looking at the PC items first? Is it really as easy as to plug two Macs into the same USB hub and share their devices? Does anyone have a working solution they are using for this type of situation? How do you do it?
If I could share 7 USB devices between the two systems, I think I would be just this side close to Heaven in ease!
    thank you!
    Cheers,
    Marty

Thank you for the lead Direwolf, it felt like there might be a little more to it than just connecting to a hub. I just converted from PC about 8 months ago. Loving my macs!! A KVM switch I had not thought of that. I will look into. I read the wiki page and it seems like a kvm would replace the screen sharing feature the two machines can now use easy enough, only without using the cpu overhead to do it??? (i think is what I understood)
Does anyone have a model they are using and can recommend? (it's a jungle +out there+) I just did a quick search and found mostly kvm switches with 2-ports USB,. ... looking for seven, come on lucky seven! lol!
I will keep looking. In the mean time if readers have additional ideas, I will be very grateful! Cheers!

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Easiest way to share an external HD is with Sharepoints...

  • Cannot Share USB Printer to Wireless Networked Computer

    Hello,
I have a Windows 7 64-bit desktop with a HP Photosmart Prem C410a printer attached with a USB cable. I have configured the printer as a shared printer. I have a laptop with Window 7 64-bit that is networked wireless to the Home Group. However, when I try to add the Printer on laptop as a networked printer, the laptop find nothing. How do I get this USB connected printer to work with the wirelessly connected laptop?
Also, when I shared the printer an additional device was added by Windows 7 called HP Photosmart Prem C410 series (Copy 1). What's with that? The laptop doesn't see that one either.
    Regards, Dean.

    Hi,
This is not going to work. You need to configure your desktop as a print server AND it must be wireless too or at least connected to a wireless router.
Other option is to buy a USB wireless print server BUT I don't trust this option (been there, done that) and it may cost you more plus headache.
    Regards.
