How to share apps with new user

I recently added a second user account with admin rights to my macbook pro - on this new user account I do not have access to most of the applications that I had installed on my original user account -- how do I share applications? Most importantly I want to share purchased software, such as Microsoft Office.
Thank you.

When you installed these applications, did you install them to the system-wide shared Applications folder or the private Applications folder belonging to your own user account?
Most applications that come with installers will install themselves in the system Applications folder (after asking for an administrator password). Some will ask where they should be installed. Microsoft Office uses an installer; as I recall, it does ask whether it should be available to just you or to everybody with an account on your system.
Applications that you install by dragging go wherever you drag them. Some even provide a shortcut (alias) to your system Applications folder for you to drag them into.

  • How to keep library with new user ID

My daughter has been purchasing songs and downloading them to her itunes library on her computer for many years (a library that shares access with mine). I now have an iphone for her and would like to open a new apple account in her name for her new iphone. I also would like her to be able to have all of her songs in her library on her new phone with her new user ID. Is this possible? If so, how do I accomplish this?

Connect the phone to her computer and sync the music she wants to it. If it is all of the music that's easy; just click the Music tab in iTunes and check "Entire music library". If it is selective the easiest way to do it is to first create a new playlist in iTunes, then drag all of the music she wants on the phone to that playlist, click on Selected Playslists on the Music tab and choose it. Then sync.
Alternatively, she can check "Manually manage..." on the Summary screen, then drag the music she wants to the phone, but the playlist trick is much easier. Anytime she wants to change the music on the phone just add to or remove from the playlist and sync again.
Next, create the new Apple ID and set up the account in iTunes. First log out of the old account on the Store menu in iTunes. Then go to the Store menu and choose "Create Apple ID" and follow the instructions. Any new music and apps will be associated with the new ID, but the old content will still be available.

  • How to share iTunes with two users on the same mac.

My wife & I use the same iMac with different user accounts.  How do we share one iTunes account on that computer.  I tried moving the iTunes folder in music on my user account to shared user, but it seems like new iTunes folders are created in the original location when I do this.  What am I doing wrong.

Then hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared/ folder.

  • Can I share apps with another user account on our mac even though its a different apple ID?

Husband and I have just bought a new Mac to share, but we've both got iphones and itunes of our own.  I thought the best way to deal with this would be to have a user account each on the new Mac with our own iTunes, but this obviously means that each user account has a different apple ID associated with it.  I've just bought Pages, Numbers and Keynote on my user account, is it going to be possible to share these apps with my husbands user account.
I've got a harrible feeling that I should have created a joint user account and apple ID, and I've just wasted the best part of £40...please tell me theres a way to fix this!!
    Thanks

You can, but you will have to update the applications from the user account with the Apple ID you used to purchase those apps. There isn't any other problem, but it may be illegal (but I think it's legal if you run them on the same Mac)

  • How to share iphoto with two users in the same imac maverick

I can´t find the way to share iphoto/itunes with two users in the same imac with maverick software

In conclusion, the new software is worse than the old one, really?  Because in my old mac I could share easily without copy with an external USB
It's not iPhoto that dropped the ball but the system.  I believe it was Mavericks that broke the Shared folder compatibility for iPhoto, not iPhoto itself.
Also having the library on an external HD is a good way of freeing up space on the boot drive to assure optional system and application performance.

  • How to share reminders with iCloud users ?

    Hello,
With Lion it was possible to share a "Reminder" through iCal to members of iCloud...
I unfortunately did not find this essential feature in the new Mountain Lion Reminder Application.
I cannot immagine Mountain lion would be a downgrade on that very useful workgroup feature...
The only, temporary, work around is to use the web version of iCloud calendar which still permits sharing of Reminders with iCloud members.
    Am I missing something ?
    Best regards,
    Carlo

Does the "Facebook integration" enable sharing of reminders with icloud users, even for people not using facebook ?

  • How to share photos with other users

    Hello,
how can i share my photos in iPhoto with the other users (my family) on my mac. There is only one mac-computer. When i go to preferences sharing, there is allways the allert: your firewall software let not pass the port 8770.
    Achim

    Hi Achim,
You have to open that port on your Mac. Usually when you go to sharing prefs there is a checkbox to allow iPhoto sharing (thus opening that port)
Here are all the links I have on sharing.
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version

  • Still can't figure out how to share apps with two different itunes accounts, two different apple ids (homesharing for music works fine) this is between my wifes iphone 4s and my ipad 3 4g anyone help ?

My wife has an iphone 4s. I have an ipad 3 4g. Homesharing between the pc, the ipad and the iphone is fine, but only for music. Many forums say that apps can be shared between devices but HOW ???? I can't find a solution anywhere. My wife and I have separate apple ids, separate icloud accounts and separate itunes details....
    Anyone help ?

Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Apps" appear beneath the name of the library?
Here's a screenshot of what I mean. (Unfortunately, it's not showing "Apps" because there aren't any in that library. But fingers crossed it should give you an idea of what you're looking for.)

  • How to share itunes with multiple users on a macbook pro?

step by step instructions will be very much appreciated as i'm not technically inclined

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There is a folder in /Users directory named "Shared" which can be opened by all users and where you can put your iTunes library to be shared among different users. Another option would be to use an external drive.
You only have to copy the iTunes library to that folder. In order to access there, open a Finder window, select the Go menu -> Go to Folder, and type:
    /Users/Shared
After doing this, open iTunes while holding down the Alt key, and point iTunes to the library saved in that folder. Finally, open iTunes, go to iTunes menu (in the menu bar) -> Preferences -> Advanced, and choose the iTunes Media folder in the Shared folder. Do this in all your users.
Both roaringgnome's and Niel's answer (which is the same as this one) are valid. Just use the one you want to :-)

How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier.

How can i create a new user with only read rights ?

You are asking about a Database User I hope.
You can look into the Oracle 8i Documentation and find various privillages listed.
    In particular, you may find:
Chapter 27 Privileges, Roles, and Security Policies
    an intresting chapter.
You may want to do this with the various tools included with 8i - including the
Oracle DBA Studio - expand the Security node and you can create USERS and ROLES.
Or use SQL*Plus. To create a
user / password named John / Smith, you would login to SQL*Plus as System/manager (or other) and type in:
    Create user John identified by Smith;
    Grant CONNECT to John;
    Grant SELECT ANY TABLE to John;
    commit;
There is much more you can do
    depending on your needs.
    Please read the documentation.
