How to share contacts in iCloud?

For years I'm trying to digitalize the contact and calendar information in my household on the Apple eco-system, which started in the early years of MobileMe... in the mean time the rather expensive (family pack) MobileMe service has been replaced by the more integrated iCloud services, but I'm getting stuck now in the contacts portion of the story where the upgrade from iCal to Calendar in Mountain Lion did cover most of my needs: my family (like most families in the world I guess) want to have a central contact list that can be maintained by 'mum and dad' and viewed by the children, including having the birthdays visible in the Calendar...
In the support community I see posts on people being motivated to get individual iCloud ID's to be able to have personal entries, and some tricks to keep the current shared contacts after migration and afterwards deleting the ones you don't want anymore... but not mentioning that from that time on all common contacts need to be maintained by each of the family members (again)...
The approach in calendars allows to create various calendar (or groups), and allowing to subscribe to these either publicly or with a list of iCloud ID's with either view or edit capability... the birthday events are created out of the contacts automatically. Couldn't this subscription functionality be arranged for Contacts?
PS: As it stands now, I had to give up my personal me.com account and use it as the family account where all the common (but also my personal) contacts are maintained, and our iPad is the 'single source of truth'... the iMac is becoming less useful as the contacts are not available to the other family members, as they are still linked to their old me.com ID's...

Your Mac would need to be signed into the same account to actually share contacts.  However, it's possible to copy the contacts from one account to the other.  You would do this by signing into the account that contains all the contacts in System Preferences>iCloud (if you need to, sign out, choose Delete at all the prompts -- your data will still be in iCloud -- then sign into the account containing the contacts), and check contacts so they appear on your Mac.  Once on your Mac, open Contacts, go to View>Groups, select All Contacts group in the iCloud section on the left sidebar, go to Edit>Select All to select all contacts (they should be all be highlighted in blue), then go to File>Export>Export vCard and save this file on your desktop.
Next, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, choose Delete at all prompts, sign into the account that has the partial contact list and check Contacts.  Then double-click the file you saved earlier to import the full set of contacts to your Mac, and it to this iCloud account.  Then open Contacts and go to Card>Look for Duplicates and merge the duplicates found.  You should now have the full set of contacts in both accounts.  You can then sign into the account you want to use on this Mac and recheck the data you want to share with iCloud and the data will reappear on your Mac after a short delay as it redownloads.

  • How do i share contacts on icloud between 2 iphones

I just updated my iphone 4s and want to share all the contacts on my wife's iphone 4s. How can this be done using iCloud?

It is difficult to reply to Winston Churchill, sir, but I feel compelled to pursue the question.
Your suggestion, which no doubtedly works, is not what I would call sharing.
I mean no disrespect: neither would you, if the matter was sharing of calendars.
In that case, you would say that we should mark any specific calendar and mention a different iCloud account and read-write rights. You need not know it's password.  It is up to the email account of that iCloud account, to include these calendars or not.  Since this is iCloud level privileges, it works like magic, on a desktop or when mobile.
Your suggestion cannot be easily used to share the contacts with a co-worker.
Knowing the password means you own the account, in my humble namespace this is not sharing.
I think there is no way to share contacts in iCloud, just yet, please correct me if I am wrong.
    Sincerely yours,
    Koray

  • HT4489 how to import Contacts in iCloud from Exchange?

how to import Contacts in iCloud from Exchange?

    This usually works:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  Use this to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from your exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud.  (This will cause new contacts added to your phone to be added to the iCloud account.)
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and turn off contacts syncing with your exchange account (otherwise you will end up with duplicates on your phone).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your exchange account back to your phone and to iCloud.

  • How to share contacts from ipad2 with older iMac running 10.6.2?

How to share contacts from ipad2 with older iMac running 10.6.2?

Well I guess I was too optimistic. Since last posting I have had three hang events, one during reboot. When the login dialog box came up I clicked on it and it hung.
However I do have a new data point. I have enabled the remote login (sshd). I have discovered that when the system hangs like I described above, I can still log in via SSH from my Windows system. The shell appears normal, but when I tried a "killall Safari" command the OS crashed hard. After a hard reset, the system hung during the login process. Again I could login remotely, and that time I executed a "sudo reboot" via the remote session. That cleared the display to all-blue but did not successfully reboot.
Can anyone suggest what to try via the remote login to help diagnose what is happening? I am familiar with typical Linux architecture but the differences in Mac OS X are leaving me a bit disoriented.

  • How to retrive contacts from icloud

How to retrieve contacts from icloud.

The iCloud backup doesn't include your contacts.  iCloud syncs your contacts to your iCloud account.  After restoring to your backup the conacts you are seeing are the ones still in your iCloud account (and visible on icloud.com).  If the contacts you lost are no longer in your account on icloud.com, they are unfortunately not recoverable (unless they are backed up somewhere else such as Outlook).

  • How to share documents with iCloud and Pages?

I keep getting reminded to remove everything from iWork, but I don't really understand how to share anything (documents) on iCloud. Am I missing something? (Well, I know I am, but it isn't exactly straightforward to me.)
Could someone point me to some information about that?
    Thanks.

You can store iWorks docs on iCloud, but you cannot share them with others.  The old iWorks beta web site let you host files for other remote users to have access to them, and iCloud (at least not now) does not allow that.

  • How to Sync contacts to iCloud from ios4

How do I sync contacts to iCloud from my iOS 4 iPad?

I don't believe that is possible.
iCloud was released after iOS 4.  And your iPhone 3G cannot run any iOS past iOS 4.2.1.  So you're out of luck until you purchase a newer iPhone.

  • How to share calendar from icloud to someone

I was wondering how to share your calendar schedule to someone.

    at www.iCloud.com
You sign in, click the calendar icon,
in the list of calendar's on the left
-> you should see a faint icon to the right of the calendar name.
    click that,
type the email address of the user you want to share with,
and whether you let them just View or View and Edit.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT4910 I still don't know how to get contacts from iCloud to my macbook !

For some reason when I sync my iphone to my macbook it is NOT syncing my contacts properly.  My contacts are on iCloud, but how do I get them from iCLoud to my Macbook so that iCloud, iPhone and macbook all have the same contacts.
Also for some reason there is one group on iCloud with my husband's contacts on it, how do it get that out of my iCloud and into his iCloud?

Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book. Contacts on the phone is similar.
Do you and your husband share an iCloud account or are you logged into his iCloud account as a secondary account at mail, contacts & calendars.

  • Share Contacts with iCloud

How do I share my contacts / address book with another iCloud (formerly MobileMe) user without having to add my account to their device?  It's quick and easy with calendar's, but I must be overlooking something to do so with contacts.

This facility is not provided. You may be able to share using other services such as Google, though I can't advise on this.

  • How to see contacts in icloud email on iPad

Is there a way to pull up my contacts in my icloud email acct on my IPad?

#1 - I confirmed that my contacts are in my "icloud" email account when I went to the webpage throught firefox.
#2 - the toggle switch in (settings>iCloud) has been "on" the entire time.
However when I open the iCloudj on my IPad I cannot see or access my contacts."On the left side of the Ipad is a list of the folders I have created in my iCloud account.
         - when I make that column disappear & only have a message on my Ipad screen there are no icons that will allow me access to my contacts. At the top of the window are icons for: <inbox; up and down triangles; a flag, a folder, a trash can, a left pointing arrow and a pen/paper.
If I make the "Mailboxes" column come up (on the left of screen) then there is a listing of:
    -all inboxes
    -gmail
    -icloud
    -embarqmail
    -*VIP
    ACCOUNTS
    -Gmail
    -iCloud
    -Embarqmail
Regardless of how I access iCloud email from the list above...I can never see/access my contacts. Is this correct?
