How to share iMovie 10 to iDVD

I'm now unable to Share to iDVD.
This is a problem as I need to burn to DVD for our Church members to watch on their DVD players at home as well as the
local cable TV channel to also play our DVD on-air.
help?

Hi,
perhaps not as slick as before (and assuming you are on the latest version of iDVD) it still seems possible to get your movies into iDVD from the lastest iteration of iMovie
either by
sharing your finished work to the theatre, then
opening iDVD
creating a new project
clicking the plus sign and selecting add movie
dragging your movie from the theatre to the placeholder created
OR
share your movie to a file and save in your movies folder
open iDVD and select 'Magic iDVD'
click on the Movies tab - Ignore the iMovie list and then select your film(s) from the dropdown list within movies and drag into the area that says 'drop movies here'
both methods have worked for me for a movie created using the new version of iMovie.
Hope this helps

  • How to share iMovie library with other accounts without duplicating files?

I'm looking for information on how to share an imovie library with other accounts on the same computer without duplicating files.  If I  copy imovie files to the shared folder each user is required to import the files to their library which duplicates the files.  It would be nice if imovie had the option of including events/projects shared in the share folder.  Is there an option to change everyone's default library to a shared folder?  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

The easiest way to do this would be to atach an external drive. The external drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If you have a drive that is formatted some other way, you can reformat it using Disk Utility. It can be Thunderbolt, Firewire, or USB, but Firewire or Thunderbolt will give best performance for video.
Now you need to move the projects and events over to the external drive. This must be done from within iMovie.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK.
Now, in the Project Library View, hold down the command key while dragging the small icon for each project to the small icon for the external drive. Now select one of these projects and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. This will enable you to move associated Events, Photos, and Music to the external drive. Repeat for all projects.
If any events are left over at the end of this, because they are not used in any of your projects, you can move them to the external drive by working in the Event Library list. Hold down the Command Key while dragging the small icon for the Event in the Event Library List to the small icon for the External Drive. Repeat until all the Events are moved.
Now you can edit these movies on any user account.
For future clips that you import from a camera, be sure to select the external drive as the location.

  • How to share iMovie

I made an iMovie that I would like to share but have been stymied as to what to do.  I tried both You Tube and Dropbox, but because it is more than 15 minutes long, ( 18.34minutes), I am unable to do so thru either You Tube/Dropbox.  Editing it to a shorter length effects the quality too much, so I would rather not do that.  I burned a DVD, but it does not work on a TV, only my mac.  IDVD is not on my share option thru iMovie.  What can I do?

Haha, I was fooled by your reference to burning a DVD.  I believe what you did was create a data DVD rather than a video DVD.  Your machine should be capable of burning a video DVD with the right software, and to do this, you could locate an older version of iDVD or use third party software such as Roxio Toast.  The computer's lack of video DVD burning capability has been extensively discussed in these forums, and it may be helpful to read discussions like this, or similar, if you'd like to create a DVD which can be viewed on a DVD player:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3966576?start=0&tstart=0

Apple's thought apparently is for you to distribute your video electronically.  Lots of options, but to use a service like Dropbox, you'd need to export your iMovie into a video format that others can open/see and which is a small enough file to be practical.  YouTube does this behind the scenes, but you're actually sending the file with Dropbox so it will be a bit more challenging.  Here's a start on downsizing your video to reduce the file size:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2281?viewlocale=en_US
YouTube does allow longer videos within certain parameters.  See:

How do you export projects to iDVD from the latest iMovie version?  (It used to be a simple click on share!!)

You need to "Share to file" and pick the 480 or 540 size.

  • How do i get a project from iMovie 11 to idvd

I made an iMovie using 10.0.4.  How do I get it to iDVD so I can burn dvds with that movie on them?
What do I do?  Share to File (whatever that is.)?
    Thanks,
    Hal

    For iMovie 10 select 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.  Do not move the movie file once it's been imported into the iDVD project.  Therefore place it where you plan on keeping it full time.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Trying to share a completed iMovie project with iDVD. iMovie keeps quitting. Why?

I've been trying to share a completed iMovie project with iDVD. iMovie keeps quitting unexpectedly. Why does it keep crashing?

Click on the button near the top of the window where it says Project Library (it toggles between Library and edit Project).
Click just once on the name of the project, so that it highlights in blue.
Go to File Menu > Duplicate Project. There will now be a second project with the same name, but with a number added to the end of the name
Open that duplicated project by double-clicking it
Lastly, Check out this Discussion Thread from September
I movie quits unexpectedly during editing and publishing
from Jasonryan1. It relates to a corrupted item existing in his project. And in his attempt to troubleshoot it, he suspected it was a Title he placed in the Project itself. Once he deleted the corrupted Title he was able to successfully export it. As to which item is causing instability, that's a tricky process to narrow down. And I would agree it seems unlikely all your projects could have some corrupted element in them. But it might work to concentrate on the simplest project which is showing the symptoms you describe. Duplicate that project and start deleting pieces of it and trying to add a Title to it and see if iMovie crashes. And that's not to say it's a title, it could just as easily be a picture, a transtion or a music clip that's preventing that project from being exported.

  • How do I install iMovie HD and iDVD on a new iMac?

    I have a new iMac, running 10.9.3.
I want to install iMovie HD and iDVD on this iMac.
I have the old install disks.
    How should I proceed?
    Thank you,
    Hal

The improvements provided by iDVD 7 over version 6 are not confined to themes.
Happily having two version of iMovie is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

You will have to purchase the newest iLife in the boxed set to get the latest version of iDVD. Or you can try using some other DVD burning software such as Roxio's Toast. Look for it and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads

  • How do I get a movie from iMovie 10 to iDVD to burn a disc

How do I get a movie from iMovie 10 to iDVD to burn a disc?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

Startup disc is Macintosh HD. If your HD is getting near full capacity you'll need to offload some files to an external drive or drives.

  • IMovie 7.1, iDVD 7.0.1, iPhoto 7.1 Died during Use, How to Resurect???

I am using the latest software updates of iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD. They allowed me to build one movie. Now everything is crashing, hard, no notice, just total freeze that I have to get out via the Finder/Force Quit. Using latest software. Have big files in Aperture and iTunes. Neven had problems with earlier version other than the weak capabilities in the new iMovie. Maybe it heard me complaining?
I suspect there is a bad preferences file or something like this that needs to be deleted? Anyone know anything about the underpinings of these apps and how to create a clean start. I already dumped and reinstalled the apps and went through the Software Updates, but still having the same crashes. One other clue in iPhoto, it seems to work until I touch the Music button.

I guess I should've make sure all of the settings on both machine were the same...
On my iMac the FPS was NTSC (30fps) and on my Macbook Pro PAL (25fps).

  • How to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD?

    Hello there,
I need urgent help for a project.
I want to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD so that not only the TV safe area but the whole clip appears on the TV screen. Is there anybody able to help me?
And is it possible to add chapters, either in iMovie or in IDVD?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Later.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie or iDVD. There're iMovie and iDVD Support Communities where everybody has iMovie and iDVD. You should also post this question there.
