How to share iphoto with two users in the same imac maverick

I can´t find the way to share iphoto/itunes with two users in the same imac with maverick software

In conclusion, the new software is worse than the old one, really?  Because in my old mac I could share easily without copy with an external USB
It's not iPhoto that dropped the ball but the system.  I believe it was Mavericks that broke the Shared folder compatibility for iPhoto, not iPhoto itself.
Also having the library on an external HD is a good way of freeing up space on the boot drive to assure optional system and application performance.

My wife & I use the same iMac with different user accounts.  How do we share one iTunes account on that computer.  I tried moving the iTunes folder in music on my user account to shared user, but it seems like new iTunes folders are created in the original location when I do this.  What am I doing wrong.

Then hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared/ folder.

How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier.

  • How can I share Quicken and other apps with another user on the same iMac?

I would like to share some apps including Quicken with anoter user on the same iMac. I have put the Quicken app and the .QFX file in /usrs/share and changed the permissions to R/W on both files but when I log in as the other user and run Quicken it does not use the .QFX file and instead comes up with no accounts.

The Quicken app. should be in the Applications folder at the root of Macintosh HD. It's accessible to all users from there.
To share a file, (this from Finder Help menu)
"Sharing files with others who use your computer
You can share files with others who use your computer by placing the files in the Public folder in your home folder. Anyone with an account on your computer can read or copy the items you put in your Public folder (except for your Drop Box folder, which only you can open).
To share files using your Public folder:
Copy the files you want to share into your Public folder, inside your home folder.
To give a copy of a file directly to another person, copy it to their Drop Box folder (inside their Public folder), where only they can see it."
When opening a file just double-click the file - it will open the application automatically.

  • Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac

Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac?

Apparently so (as long as each user operates out of a different Mac User account).
After setting up home sharing in the various different user accounts on the Mac, you need to have iTunes open in the account that you want to Home Share from.
Now use fast User Switching to get into the account that you want to Home Share to. Launch iTunes in there. The library in the other account should appear as shared for you.

  • Sharing iTunes Library with two users on the same computer

I have all of my music stored on a external hard drive.
Both users on the same computer have the iTunes music location folder as the external hard drive. How do I see music added in one persons log-in? For example: I just purchased two albums under one log-in. The second log in can not see that music unless I manually add it.
Both Libraries point to the same file location.
I have over 40GB of music and I am looking for a way to manage my music files more effectively and I want to make sure that both log-ins have the same music.
I followed the instructions in article HT1203 from the apple support site.

The reason you are having this issue is because you have a shared library but private databases. What you have on the external drive is the collection of media files (library) that each account is set up to access as the source for media. What you have not done is set up a shared iTunes database, so each user accesses the same library differently.
When each user opens iTunes, iTunes access the database on their account (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library). Therefore, their settings, views, playlists, etc., are private. When they add songs to their library only their database file is updated to reflect those additions; simply having files in the music folder does not mean that iTunes will recognize them, hence the reason iTunes asked you if you want to move the file to the trash when you delete it from your library.
The confusion here is the double use of the term library. The contents of you music folder most definitely constitutes your media library, as it is the collection of your media files. What you see as your library in iTunes is not your library but, for the most part, the content stored in a database table maintained by iTunes in the iTunes Library file in your iTunes folder. iTunes does not access your actual media files unless it is absolutely necessary. The general assumption is that what is shown in your iTunes “library” will actually mirror what is in your music folder.
So the missing step in your setup would be to switch to the account that has the most current iTunes library—that is the one reflects the actual contents of your music folder as of now—and follow this procedure.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Move the iTunes folder to the Shared folder (./Users/Shared).
    3. Launch iTunes, but immediately hold the option key to invoke the Choose Library window.
    4. Select the database (iTunes Library file) now located in the shared folder.
    5. If you do not see your content, go to iTunes’ preferences and reset the location of the music folder to the external drive.
    6. In the other accounts, re-launch iTunes and change the library according to steps 3 and 4.
Now all users will have access to the same iTunes database as well as the shared library. The downside of this is that each user will have full access privileges. If you have iTunes 8, then to avoid the disadvantages that come with this type of set up, see [this thread|http://forums.macworld.com/thread/105366?tstart=0] over at Macworld.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same iMac?

I have an iMac with 2 user accounts and I want to share a folder between them. I have gone on to system preferences>sharing and turned on file sharing. I have also got the 'Get Info' thing up, selected 'Shared Folder' and added the other user to the read and write permissions...it just doesn't show up on the other desktop (the folder is on my desktop, I would have expected to see it on the other desktop...?)
    Any ideas?

    jrwood116 wrote:
Thanks, but do you have to do that every time you share a folder?
No, you just need to do it once and that's it. Anything that is in the Shared folder is accessible by all user accounts within the same Mac.

I've read numerous 'how to share a folder' blogs and they just say it's as simple as clicking 'share' and allowing specific users to access it...none have mentioned this (not saying your advice is wrong at all, just don't get why no-one else has mentioned what appears to be a key step!)
Can you give me an example of such a blog. I suspect you may have mis-understood what they were saying but if you can provide a link, I'll look at it.

  • Can two users of the same iMac have their own "space" and how is this set up?

My wife and I will share the same new iMac.  Can we each have our own "space" complete with personal background preferences, tools, etc.?  How would I set this up?

As PrDm indicated, you can indeed each have your own user account in Mac OS X. But you do not have to log out for the other person to use their own account in Mac OS X. You can use Fast User Switching:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8672.html
That makes it a lot easier to share a single computer.

  • How do I set up pages and the rest of iWork to work with multiple users on the same iMac?

I have iWork '09 on my new iMac.  It works fine on my my admin account, but I am trying to set up a user account for my wife on the same computer and I am having problems getting it to allow her to use it on her account. When I open it while logged in under her account it starts with the try/buy screen.  I have already gone into the get info panye and changed the permissions for 'everyone' to read&write.  But it did not work.  Please can anyone help me out.

When you install you get the opportunity to install it for "All Users".
It sounds like you have a demo version on your Mac however, you need to delete it:

  • File Sharing with other Users on the same iMac

I am running Snow Leopard with the latest updates... I have an iMac with 3 users. All users are administrators. I will call them User 1, 2, and 3 for this discussion. I have a file in User 1 Documents folder that I want to share with User 2 and 3. I want User 2 and 3 to have Read & Write access.
I went in System Preferences > Sharing. I checked the box labeled File Sharing. I clicked the "+" button in the "Shared Folders" field and added the Documents folder from User 1 account. I then clicked the "+" button in the "Users" field and add User 2 and 3 with Read & Write access.
I then restarted my iMac and logged into User 2 and 3 account and could not access User 1 Documents folder in Finder. Is there something I am doing wrong? I do have the Firewall turned on, however File Sharing (AFP) is set to Allow Incoming Connections.
    Can someone help me here?
    Thanks in advance!

An administrative user doesn't have access to much more than a standard user - they just have membership in the admin group and the ability to elevate their privileges to access more things.
The OS is designed to restrict access between accounts, so the usual way to share things is to put them in places where the desired users have access. As mentioned, this can be the /Users/Shared folder - nothing more needs to be done to access items here, since all users on the machine can access this folder (each user also has their own particular shared /Public folder that is accessible to them).
Now, if your issue is not about accessing the files, but rather being able to +do something+ with them, one user normally doesn't have permissions to modify another user's documents since they are not the owner. This can be dealt with by either having the owner give the desired permissions, or adding +Access Control List+ entries to the folder to give additional access to items copied (not moved) there - a user's */Public/Drop Box* folder has ACL entries like this, for example.
You can use the Terminal to add ACL entries, but if you aren't familiar with using the application (or the chmod command), you might take a look at TinkerTool system for a GUI solution - I thought it was worth the price just for this.

  • How to share files between two accounts on the same Macbook Pro???

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro and have created two accounts, one for me and one for my wife.
I have all the itunes music on my account and my wife wants to load some of the songs nto her Itunes on her account but I don't want to start copying files into the "shared folder" in the "users folder" which will obviously take up more room on my hard drive.
I have noticed that I can see my folders when she is logged in but the ones that she needs to access (like the music folder) have a red dot on them and when you double click on them it brings up the message "the folder "music" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient privileges".
Can anyone help me with these problems?
    Please help me!!!

Hi, remember to set the ownership & permissions for files/folders if you want to be able to amend files or change them from both accounts. If a file is created in one account. it may only be viewed in the other account. but if you change the ownership & permissions from "read only" to "read and write" then files can be amended from both accounts. To get the info, simply click once on the folder or file then command-i to get the file/folders info. you can change things there. Permissions can only be change from the account the file/folder was created in.
