How to share libraries with multiple apple id's

We have multiple users in our family that have been sharing one apple id.  When someone sends an imessage from an ipad or an ipod touch, it always assumes it's me and shares the messages with everyone in the family.  I remember hearing that we could set up an apple id for each user but still link them to the same library... that way we don't have to pay for each kid to download the same apps, etc...  How do we set this up?

I THINK so.
I have 3 apple ID's within the family.
Whenever one of the devices is connected, if any purchases have been made on that device I choose "transfer purchases from XXX' under the file menu.
It does so without a problem. Im not sure if I need to be signed in to that itunes account at the time- I've never noticed it asking me either way.
From there I can move it to whichever play list I like and sync any device with playlists from my library.
BUT I cannot use the 'check for available downloads' while in my account, as somehow only one ID is able to do that within 90 days. This doesn't bother me as if I have the device I download/transfer straight from the device, regardless of who's ID it was purchased under.
Hope this helps.

  • How to share account with multiple devices?

3 kids with 3 devices - an iPod Touch and two iPads Mini - family shares one account with Apple/iTunes and one library on our family PC.  They use FACETIME and MESSAGES with their friends, and they all see each others messages and conversations.  How do I fix this?  Is there a setting or a way to create sub-accounts off the family account so they can still share the main library for music and video OR do I have to create separate Apple/iTunes accounts for each kid?  Is there a setting on their devices that can help?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm not even sure the right question to ask...

  • How to sync ical with multiple apple devices and android?

Does anybody have use an android phone in addition to apple devices, and have you figured out how to sync ical with all? (I know there are other calendars that can be used by all, but it means a lot to my husband to stay with ical.)

I tried Yahoo in the past but had trouble with duplicate entries. However, this was a while ago before Yahoo updated their site and this was with syncing to a Windows computer with Outlook in addition to a Mac so my results might not be typical. Yahoo's worth a shot, but my experience with Yahoo is why I use Google Calendar.
Beyond that, I don't know of any other "free" services. There are many other hosted calendar sites that could work, but you'd pay something like $5-$20 per month, which is comparable to MobileMe.

  • HT1198 unable to share libraries with multiple users

I read thru and followed directions on how to share using a disk image, I was able to copy my iphoto library to it and select it to open on my account, I set permissions to read and write for both other users and ignored ownership on that driver. it works for my account but it says that I dont have permission for the other one other and on my daughters it said that i would have to do an upgrade and I did not have enough space to write on the drive. I made it 100gb and am only using 10 gb. feeling lost  please help. Thanks

version 9.4.3 I ended up copying ther iphoto library to the shared users folder and telling iphoto to pull out of that folder on both accounts. I deleted  my daughters account and gave her the old computer for her home work and such. so far it is working. if there is a better way let me know. I do have a hard drive plugged in for backup purposes, should I use it for the shared iphoto library or just leave it as is?

  • How to share photos with multiple iPads

I am looking to share my photos with other family members who have iPads. How can I "publish" photos that will sync to multiple devices over WiFi?  In other words, I want to push photos of my children to their grandparents (as simple as possible for the grandparents)

Wifi will only work if they are al on the same wireless network.  An easier solution might be dropbox.  You can post your pictures there, share the link with anyone who you want to see the pictures, and they can bring them onto their machines.  This will work with family members who do not have pads, on any device that can acccess the web.
I believe you can set up an account for free.

  • How to share itunes with multiple users on a macbook pro?

step by step instructions will be very much appreciated as i'm not technically inclined

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There is a folder in /Users directory named "Shared" which can be opened by all users and where you can put your iTunes library to be shared among different users. Another option would be to use an external drive.
You only have to copy the iTunes library to that folder. In order to access there, open a Finder window, select the Go menu -> Go to Folder, and type:
    /Users/Shared
After doing this, open iTunes while holding down the Alt key, and point iTunes to the library saved in that folder. Finally, open iTunes, go to iTunes menu (in the menu bar) -> Preferences -> Advanced, and choose the iTunes Media folder in the Shared folder. Do this in all your users.
Both roaringgnome's and Niel's answer (which is the same as this one) are valid. Just use the one you want to :-)

  • TS2972 I would like to share my iTunes libraries with my Apple TV from both my iMac and Macbook Pro, but I use the same iTunes account on both devices. Is it possible to link my Apple TV to both devices at the same time?

I recently purchased an Apple TV, and I currently have it linked to my iMac with my iTunes account. I also have a newer MacBook Pro that has some different iTunes media on it than my iMac does, but they share iTunes accounts. Is it possible to link both devices at the same time, have access to media on both computers, and use the same iTunes account on both computers?? It seems Apple TV will only link to one iTunes account per computer, but can access multiple computers if different iTunes accounts are activated on those computers.

You can share multiple libraries with the Apple TV, they don't even need to use the same iTunes account. Just make sure that you use the same ID for homesharing on all devices.

    you're welcome.
actually, unless you take an extra step, the first opened swf will close.  if you want the 2nd to close, the initial receiving lc will send a message to sender that causes the sender to close.

how do i deal with multiple iPhoto libraries when migrating to Photos

I would merge them before the migration.  Also, spend some time doing any batch changes of names and dates beforehand too.
iPhoto Library Manager has good merge and duplicate search facilities.

When setting up iTunes to share a single music library between multiple user accounts on one computer you should follow the steps in this article -

  • In trying to share music with multiple user accounts on one comp, I quit itunes, located my itunes media folder, moved it to a publicly accessible location. Problem is it didn't work and now I can't get it all back to the way it was.

In trying to share music with multiple users on one computer, I followed the directions on "iTunes:How to share music between different accounts on a single computer" (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203). I did something wrong because i lost iTunes
Tried to put files back, but it is not the same. Plugged in my ipod and it is not recognizing my computer.
Can someone tell me where iTunes should be, and what sub files should be included with it. Thanks!

If you are seeing the "Connect to iTunes" logo, then your device is in Recovery Mode, and you will need to restore it:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

how do i delete a multiple apple id from my account?  I only need one and i have two listed

    Hello javyocks,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Concerning the issue with multiple Apple ID's, please look at the following:
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5622
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.
    Take care,
