How to share non-startup drive?

We have a Mac Pro first-gen Intel machine with several hard drives inside. I can't find a way to share any of the drives and access them from another computer other than the startup disk. I believe I have them set up correctly in SysPrefs / Sharing because I can access the Mac Pro HD on my Mac mini.
I've googled this and searched here in the forums and can't find a solution. Can anyone help?
Both this machine and the one I want to access it on run 10.6.8.

You do not need Admin access, but you do need
a. Either an account on the Server, or,
b. The Server should have Guest enabled, so anyone can connect to it and see the drives as well.
The Editor account has connected to the MacPro, and saved the credentials in Keychain on the Mac mini, so any future connections allow seamless connectivity without requiring passwords. If you change the password for the Editor account, the MacPro should prompt you for authentication.
On the MacPro, you can right-click on the disk or folder on either disk, and allow/disallow specific permissions. Please see Get Info -> Sharing and Permissions.

I have a 4TB Seagate USB Hard Drive connected to my Airport Time Capsule. The Time Capsule connected to a newer iMac running Maverick.
I use the Time Capsule for Time Machines Backups and as a Router, as it was designed for.
I want to use the external Seagate drive to share content with other devices (Mac, IOS, Windows) on my home network
Problem: I cannot figure out how to SHARE the external Seagate drive so that any other devices can see it.
Steps tried: Go to System Preferences, Sharing, and I am unable to add this Seagate drive to list of sharable objects. It is grayed out.

No, that is the correct setting if you want to share out the drive.
Finally, when I run Disk Utility I don't see the Seagate drive (nor the Time Capsule) at all.
Remember that the Time Capsule is a network drive. Any other drive connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule is also a network drive.
Disk Utility cannot be used on a network drive. It only works on a drive that is directly attached to a Mac. If you need to partition the USB drive or something similar, you will need to connect it directly to your Mac for the operation.
Otherwise, everything looks correct in AirPort Utility.

How to share external hard drive across wireless home network

Hi.
I have just about completed converting my life from PC to Mac. I am very excited. I have three Macs at home and they are all blue tooth, etc. I am easily able to share a printer hooked to one of them, but can not find a way to find, share or use an external hard drive attached to another. How would one begin looking for that device in order to read from or write to it?

I have 3 Macs Airport networked at home; one G4 has an extrnal hard drive attached. If that hard drive is on, when I log into the particular G4 computer from my iMac Duo2Core (Go>Connect to Server) I get the option of logging into the G4 "Macintosh HD" or to the attached "External Hard Drive." The User Accounts at home do not have Admin privileges to the other computers, except my iMac Duo2Core which has admin privileges to the other 2. I did nothing special in setting up the network. I don't know if I can log into the external from the other G4 which does not have admin privileges to the G4 with the hard drive - never had occasion to test.
So, you might first try a set up like mine, (one admin computer for the whole network, and if you can't access the hard drive from non-admin computers, then (and if safe) give all computers admin privilegs across your network (System Preferences>Accounts - check the box that says "Allow user to administrate this computer" - for each user account). If you have young kids or folks who shouldn't have admin privileges, I'd think long and hard about doing it the second way though.

How to share a hard drive in a network on 10.6

Hey there,
I'd like to share a HD within a small mac network of around 30 (10.6 and 10.5 Users) giving different rights to different people. Now when I tested it I see that connecting to Computer "Mac1" shows the public folder and its content for guests and none admins. Once I connect with an admin name I can see the HD connected to Mac1. But once I change to a guest or none admin User I can only access the public folder even if I change the permission rights on the HD.
How do I make the HD accessible for specific users?

I started out with the same problem a few years back. And this led me to think wider.
I have a Mac Mini (as a blind server) hanging in my network. It has a 24/7 external HD (24/7 is important as all cheap HD are not made to run day in day out, I wonder even if the Lacie d2 Network2 is a 24/7 HD) attached to it that is accessible to the whole network.
My Mac Mini is also a print server (no need for expensive network cards in printers), fax for the whole network and answers the phone when nobody is there. If a fax or call is logged it emails it to the people who need to know about it.
On top of it, it holds al the Time machine backups for every machine in the network.

How to share an external drive?

I have a PC networked to my mac, and I am able to see my harddrive from it and share the files on that, but I have recently added a firewire external harddrive to my imac and I would like to be able to access one of the partitions on that drive from the PC in the other building. I am able to log onto my home on the imac but cannot see the external. I think I need to tell the external that it can be shared ... how do I do that??

I've never used Aceplayer or FileBrowser, so I'm not 100% certain about this, but give it a try anyway -- I'm thinking that your Mac isn't set up to share your external HDD on your local network. See if you can access the external drive on a device other than your iPad to verify that your Mac is indeed sharing the external HDD on your local network (like from a friend's Mac or some other computer of some sort). Then at least you'll know if it's a problem on your Mac or a problem with the iPad software.
Does FileBrowser require iTunes to be running on the Mac? Perhaps there's a sharing setting in iTunes somewhere that's preventing you from seeing the external drive?
But like I said, I've never used FileBrowser or Aceplayer, so I'm just taking some shots in the dark here. Hope it helps...

Hi looking for a little help and i think i can find it here . So i have a new ipad mini 16gb black 2 months old I love it exsept for the 16gb. I have alot of photos and i would like to put them on my ipad but to much . I was thinking could I could use my imac to share a 120gb usb external hard drive over my network and see all my photos on my ipad by connecting to that hard drive over my network iv done this on my macbook but what about a ipad ?

How to share external hard drive connected to mac with pc

I have and external hard drive connected to my mac-mini OSX 10.4.11
My iTunes music folder is in it. I want to share my music with my kids in my house so they can hear it in their windows xp computer with windows media player 11
I have the computers connected to a router and I can see the mac files from the pc but I cannot see the external hard drive that is mounted on the desktop of the mac.
The external drive is formatted as "Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Or.... If there is a way that I can duplicate my 80 gigs of music onto the pc that would be great.
I also tried to see the pc from the mac so that I can drag and drop some songs from the iTunes music folder right into the desktop of the pc and I can't get to the pc from the mac. I get an error that says the Alias is incorrect and the PC cannot be accessed.
Please Help my kids are driving me crazy for some music on their computer!

Apple has a 'bunch' of articles on sharing iTunes.
Or look at the networking. And then whether you want to put MacDrive on the PC, or use NTFS format and NTFS driver (commercial or free MacFUSE).
And probably want to ask or look in iTunes for Mac and Windows discussions, too.
Most of the things I have (bookmarked) deal with Leopard, not Tiger, so not sure but pretty sure networking is now slightly different.

How to share non-AirPrint printers on iOS devices?

Hi guys,
I'm running Lion OS X server and I have set up a printer on my server (the printer is not AirPrint friendly). What I want to do is set it up the printer so that I can get iPads and iPhones to be able to see that printer and print to it. I tried a program called Printopia 2 but it did not work, now I am not sure if it is becasue I have to set up something in system preferences or something similar. I have enbaled the printer to be shared.
Does anyone have any idea how I can overcome this problem?

I use Airprint Activator. ...on 10.6.8... It works great! The printers all show up on my ios devices.
I doesn't use the print server on 10.6.8, it just republishes the printers that are in the Sysem Prefs.
I know this because I'm not using the print services on SLS.

2. After DU loads select the volume you wish to format from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.

How to share documents which are NOT photos?

I only see how to create a family for IPhoto sharing. What about documents in folders I create? How to share non-photo items with friends, without giving someone my username&password, which then gives FULL access to everything? Not Cool; or so user-friendly!

How do I choose a default startup drive?

I have two startup drives on my Hard Drive. One is Snow Leopard and the other is Leopard. I need Leopard for some printing issues with Photoshop and Epson. How do I choose a default startup drive? Most of the time I want the Snow Leopard drive at startup but it seems to always start up on Leopard. I need to always hold down the option key at startup. Sometimes I forget.

How to keep an internal drive from being mounted on startup?

Other than opening the box and disconnecting them physically, how do I keep an internal drive from being mounted at startup? I have two problems:
1) despite having an SSD drive marked as the startup drive, I think one of my other drives is being considered first - startup takes a long time and it shows the gray circle with a line through it, before acquiescing into booting (rapidly and nicely) from the SSD drive. How do I make it ignore the other drives and go right for this?
2) when the system boots up, if I don't immediately dismount the internal drives (which I don't need most of the time), Time Machine and Spotlight begin going over them.
     other than physically removing them, anything I can do in some OS X boot script to keep those drives from being mounted?

Ok, I followed your directions (including de-seleccting and re-selecting the SSD as boot disk from System Preferences). Console: there was nothing under System Diagnostic Reports, but here's what the All Messages logs said after the Boot_Time that demonstrated my issue (3 min wait, then gray circle with a line through it, then finally rapid boot off the SSD). Is there anything here that shows what the heck it's doing before it actually boots off the SSD?
