How to Share Purchased Content

I know you can do home sharing, but how can you share content purchased through the Apple Store with people who aren't on your network? I understand you are allowed to share with a certain number of other computers, but I'm not sure how many, nor how to go about it. So, if someone comes over and copies some TV shows over to their computer, what needs to be done in order for them to view the files in iTunes on their computer?

It's considered acceptable use and it's perfectly legal
Yes it's legal, but it's not supported by Apple and iTunes.
Technology experts are working on a movie storage system where YOU have physical possession of the movie.
This system stores the movie digitally on an optical disk system that will not be dependent upon a congested, complicated, and fragile network.
Because all of the data is stored only a few feet from your television, all the bottlenecks are removed.  Performance and reliability are virtually flawless.
Further, the system will not utilize any form of security codes, authentications, or passwords. Once the optical disc is purchased it can be moved around freely at will, and can even be lent or given to friends and neighbors with zero hassles.

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • Can iTunes share purchased content across Apple IDs within one household, OR

    QUESTION ONE
Will iTunes share purchased content using TWOApple IDs, across different devices within one household?
    QUESTION TWO
Should each device with a separate user have its own iCloud ID? CONCURRENTLY, should each device belonging to the SAME user use the SAME cloud ID?
    QUESTION THREE
I think I "can" use one Apple ID, and just usedifferent iCloud IDs for EACH device. Am I fundamentally wrong? Am I legallywrong?
    UNDERSTOOD FACTS:
    1)  Apple states, each person should have their own AppleID:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37
    2)  iCloud servicesare: mail, contacts, calendar etc...
    3)  iTunes servicesare: music, videos, Apps, etc...
You can sync iTunes across up to5 different computers using your Apple ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420, however there does not seem to be alimit of how many Apple devices youcan sync within using a single iTunes account (Apple ID). *NOTE: beware automaticsynchronization of new apps..
    4)  iTunesin the Cloud is a different animal altogether! This should allow sharing of all iTunes content across all “your” devices, aslong as it was purchased thru iTunes (If not, you need to shell out an additional $25/yr for iTunes Match)
SCENARIO:  I got a new iPhone, and am giving theold iPhone to my spouse. ALL iTunes content has been managed and purchased using oneApple ID that matches one iCloud ID. Ideally, just like anyother family using multiple Apple products and usingiCloud; we would like to SHARE songs & Apps, but NOT share calendars, mail etc...(sharing contacts would be nice).
    QUESTION FOUR
Under the above scenario, must I have a “.me email” account?
I have been reading threadsabout managing content across multiple devices, using different IDs, both AppleIDs and Cloud IDs, and there is a LOT of confusion. I'm visual, so I've attached the graphic illustrating how I "think" I should proceed.  **I have not set up the new iPhone yet.
We do not have a Mac or a".me email" account, and we use Gmail.
    Any help is appreciated!

I have the computer authorized to use the Apple ID content (been using iTunes since 2007).
My issue is I cannot create sperate iCloud IDs for each device. I get prompted/directed to create a new Apple ID, which is what I want to avoid. I want to use one "FAMILY" AppleID as it is, and use iCloud IDs for each device.
My logic is: ALL my purchases are tied to an AppleID, and I just want to share on devices that leave the house, like another iPhone.
So- what to do? How to get a seperate iCloud ID without a seperate AppleID? I have an iPhone & iPad, husband has an iTouch & iPhone. How to share selectively? All devices were originally setup using one Cloud ID and one Apple ID. Now I need new IDs to represent the new user on the iTouch & iPhone.

Find the song you want in Spotify or Youtube.  It may, but does not have to, match a song in your iTunes library.
Right-click the title and choose "Copy HTTP link" (Spotify) or just copy the URL (Youtube).
Email the link to your friends.  They simply click on it and listen to the song.

  • How can I share purchased content with my husband, but keep contacts, email etc seaprare

My husbands iphone is on my itunes acct, and it has become a pain because all of our info is on both phones.  Is it possible to separarate our contacts, email, pictures, etc, and still share past purchases?  If not, how to create another acct on y computer?

    Hi Labbie,
The article below provides a few options on how to sync iPhones that have common data and hardware, like alternate iTunes libraries or multiple user accounts. Also, remeber the sync settings are tied to the device not the computer.

  • How to share content across a whole family?

I know there are other threads related to this, but I'm really trying to understand how to manage iTunes DRM, Home Sharing, Match, etc., across my family's ecosystem of Macs, iPhones, iPods and iPads. I seem to think the following apply:
    - up to 5 "computers" (does this mean OSX devices but not iOS devices?) can share DRM content
    - up to 10 "devices" can share Match content (presume this means content I've uploaded, not Apple DRM content I've purchased in iTunes Store)
So here's what I am trying to figure out:
    1. Let's say we have 5 "computers" that are running OSX (iMac and 4 Macbooks), can then all of our iOS devices -- iPads (2), iPhones (2) and iPod Touches (3) -- have the same DRM content on them? So if I purchased the movie "Monsters Inc" from the iTunes Store, can it be in iTunes on all 5 OSX devices plus any of the 7 iOS devices I wish to have it on?
    2. If the answer is "NO" to #1, can I selectively apply where the content goes to stay within the maximums? For example, let's say I have "Monsters Inc" on some of the devices and the movie "Cars" on others such that, while I have more devices accessing my DRM content, no one DRM item (movie, song, etc.) is across more than is allowed?
    3. Lastly, if we add a 6th OSX "computer" then I presume to add an DRM content it would have to be re-purchased under a separeate iTunes account? Or, said another way, there's really no way to have more than 5 computers on the same iTunes account?
I am hoping Apple is making this all easy to do as they ask all of us to buy more of their products, but without the ability to access DRM content on new devices like iPad Mini, there's really no reason to buy one.
    Thanks for any help

    Hello mqg13,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
How do you mean "share iTunes content?" You are able to purchase and download from one Apple ID on multiple devices, simply follow the steps in the article below:

Aside from the fact that we have hijacked this thread - which we really shouldn't do - you would probably be better off posting questions or seeking advice in the iCloud portion of the Apple Support Communities. I'm sure that there are a lot of more experienced iCloud users on that site than I am.
I'm not a big believer in iCloud at this point, so my experience with it - other than downloading past purchases - is really pretty limited. I would not want to steer you down the wrong path.
However, here is the Apple iCloud support website that is loaded with all sorts of information and links to even more information. This will get you started anyway ....

2 New Ipads (Retina and Mini)(New to Apple) How do I share purchased apps, but others have each act independently? Mini is for the Wife the Ipad4? is for me. I want to use mine at work, etc. She's home with the kids. Can we set them up seperate, but share
    --break--
So we are entirely new to Apple products. I'm an IT guy, but have always been a windows user.
So the Ipad with Retina Display is to be mine (and will use it at work for notes, organization, etc)
The MINI is for the wife.
But, are we allowed and can we.. buy an app and share that app between both devices? IE. Can I buy a copy of Angry Birds for the House and both Ipad's use that single purchase? and if so, can we still run the Ipads seperate other than to share the apps purchased. IE my facebook and email set up on mine and hers on her ipad mini?
When I finally find a note taking app I like, can I share it on her ipad, without her having all my work files, etc?
Thanks for helping out the apple noob. Hoping for a great experience, and anticipate droping $100 in apps the first day.. just don't want to do that twice. If this is against the usage policy, thats unfortunate but good to know. (I mean we can share stuff on PC as long as its in the same household)
thanks again (explanations or links are fine)

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • How can I share itunes content between 2 macs (both mine) in 2 different locations? Same Apple ID, same account, not the same network.

I haev a main mac at my main home which syncs itunes to my ipad and iphone with no problem. I want to access the same itunes content at my mac in my second home which is obviously on a different network. I have my ipad and iphone with me so they can be on the same network as the second mac. I can share the purchased itunes content but not the uploaded content. Any ideas?

Ok well that is not uploaded content. Maybe ripped content is a better term.
You can transfer purchased content from your iOS devices into the new Mac if you want.

You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.
