How to share videos through iPhoto

I have a Mac BookPro using version 9.5.1 of iPhoto. I haven't been able to share videos through iPhoto. The error message just says " Videos cannot be emailed." What's the best way to share videos?

Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentions, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.

What's the best workflow to share videos from iPhoto to iTunes?
It seems QuickTime is the best way as it has the Share to iTunes button right in its toolbar. However, with iPhoto '11, it looks like I have to Reveal the file in Finder in order to open it in QuickTime. Seems awfully clumsy.
I want to be able to play them on AppleTV. (Unfortunately, iPad's Photos app won't push them over AirPlay unless you get them into iTunes first and then reimport them to the iPad as a movie. Lame.)

Thans for the replies. I don't see how that could be any better than Revealing the file in Finder and using QuickTime to import to iTunes. (Not to mention that the Export dialog is extremely unfriendly to videos.)
Reveal in Finder and QT Export to iTunes is much cleaner and avoids the wasteful act of creating duplicates. I guess I'll stick with that.

How to export videos from iPhoto 11

I have synced a load of pics and videos from iphone 5 to iPhoto 11 v9.4.2.
I want to get the vids on youtube (this option is not available via the share button in iPhoto).
I have tried exporting the video from iPhoto so i can do the upload manually as a normal file, however exporting the video (as original file format) causes it to export as a .jpg and not as the video format.
I would have done it form the phone but this fails everytime whether i am on 3g or wi-fi.
iPhoto does not even allow me to see the file location via get info so i cant even just go and find them myself!
How am i supposed to get the video file on my mac somewhere where i can see the file and upload it myself seeing as iphoto does not provide an upload to youtube option?

If you select the video in the browser and use the command
File > Reveal in Finder > Original file
you should see the video file. Does that not work for you?
Also, you should be able to export the video:
File > Export
and set the "Kind" pop-up menu to "Original", like this:

Very frustrated. How do I share videos that are on iphoto? I've uploaded two to Picasa and can't view them. Previously I could uploaded videos and share them prior to Sandy.

How to find videos in Iphoto

I have videos in Iphoto they for some reason do not seem to be working. An error ostatus 54 comes up. I am trying to find it in the masters or original and I can't fin any of my videos in there. How do I find the videos.

and set the Kind to Original
will export your movie. iPhoto has no ability to compress movies at all.
Further, to find a movie within the Library package:
Select it the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original.
Just takes a little learning.

it did it the first time i loaded imovie 08, but i cant find an option to do it again.
and thre is no info in any apply help file or the support pages, only how to import photos from iphoto.

My iphoto video formats are the kind that my DMC Panasonic Still camer Shoots.
That doesn't really help, try opening them in QT/inspector and seeing what video and audio compression is used.
My point is, they are the same format as the ones that were imported 3 days ago.
Are you sure, your camera may be capable of taking more than one type of video, does im08 still recognise the video from 3 days ago

iPhoto and Aperture videos don't show up in the Photos browser in FCP X. Apple's directions (can't recall where I saw them) state to open both programs (FCP X and iPhoto) next to each other and then drag and drop the videos from iPhoto (or Aperture) to an event in FCP X.
Not how you'd hope it worked, but it works nontheless.

Can you say what you have tried?
I do it this way:
- after importing the videos into iphoto, close iphoto
- close imovie if you have it open
- reopen imovie
you should see a dialog box saying imovie is generating thumbnails. Allow it to do so.
I don't know why closing the applications, then restarting imovie works, but it may help you.

How to update videos from iPhoto in iMovie

I started a project in iMovie 11 and imported my videos in iPhoto but now I have new ones to import. If there is an update solution, it escapes me. I haven't found a way to access them.

If iPhoto is presently working as expected, I would try some basic troubleshooting first, then restart the computer and try again.
REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
- click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it. Then double click on 'Disk Utility'
- When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
- ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
- click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
- this process will take a few minutes to run. It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'

- click the button at the bottom that says 'REPAIR DISK' .......NOT "Repair disk permissions"
- this process will take a few minutes to run. It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying "The Macintosh HD appears OK"
If you get any other message OTHER than "The Macintosh HD appears OK", like "the Macintosh HD was repaired successfully" run the "Disk Repair" again, until it displays "The Macintosh HD appears OK".
Once done, restart the computer as normal

Hi. If your device is running the latest software and you have the Bluetooth Share app, sending/sharing of videos via Bluetooth is still not supported. With the Bluetooth Share app, you can only receive video fies (WMV/MP4).
If you wish to transfer/share videos to other devices, below are the other methods.
You can share videos directly from the phone through MMS, email or online sharing services such as Facebook and Skydrive.
Videos stored in the Camera Roll can be attached to an MMS message. To attach a video to MMS:
From Start, tap Messaging.
Tap (+) to create a new message, or tap an existing message thread to open the compose card.
Tap the attach button. Tap picture or video.
Choose a video from the albums to select a video.
Under the inserted video, tap on the type a message text. Enter any annotations desired, or tap attach to add another item.
Tap-and-hold on any item in the compose card to bring up the option to remove.
Note: A content delivery over MMS vary depending on the network setup, carriers, mobile data subscription, video transcoding, resolution and length.

How to share video between iPhones

I'm trying to figure out a way to share video clips between family members using iPhones. We all have either the iphone 4 or 4S. Some clips will be up to 3 or 4 minutes long. I thought about Facebook or YouTube, but they need to be for private viewing only. Dropbox would be awesome with their iPhone app but it's pricey. My MobilMe account was great using the Gallery app, but I transitioned to iCloud. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot!

Using iPhoto '08 with latest version for iMac OS X version 10.9.4. Had this problem previously and had to call apple support representative some time ago. It was corrected but has happened again. Don't remember what was changed to correct this issue. I believe I had to install optional package using the Snow Leopard disc. After that, don't remember...Any suggestions before I call Apple Support?

To add, when I do try to Play videos in IPhoto'08, QuicktimePlayer7 opens full screen but will not play content .
