How to shoot tethered?

I'm on 5D2 and using the clunky DPP.
I heard you can use LR, but I just tested it and am lost.
I see a bunch of thumbnails from previous session but cannot see how to make those large previews. Also new photos I take are not added to the thumbs, thanks!

my god , in my previous post I explained exactly how to shoot teathered. I do not have a link on the software because it came with my camera (5dmk2) In the box with your camera there is a disk, is is pinkish in colour and has the wording essential products and solutions on it. You need to install the software on it.
After about 30 seconds of googling I found the download page for the software you need http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/cameras/Digital_SLR/EOS_5D_Mark_ II.aspx?type=download&page=1
I am sure you didnt mean to have a bit of a rude attitude, and I know it can be frustrating when you cant find what you want. Dont worry apology accepted!
Install this and follow the instructions in the post i made first of all.
The method i posted works for the 5dmk2 the 5dmk1 and the 400d, as i have shot teathered with all of thses.
What are you shooting that needs to be teathered? Are you shooting pro or as a hobby?
ps this is the post that i found when looking how to do it  http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2008/archives/1207

Trying to set up Bridge to shoot tethered. I need a how to.

Designer doesn't have a debugger like Acrobat.
The script editor can check only if the syntax is correct.
You generally can use the PDF-Preview to debug JavaScripts when  Acrobat is your current PDF-Viewer.
Add this code in you script where you want to start debugging. It will call Acrobat's JS Console

    console.show();

  • How to view JPEG in Aperture while shooting tethered?

    I'm shooting tethered on a D3x into Aperture 2.1.4 with OS 10.6.1
Camera is set to RAW+JPEG with the in-camera JPEG set to Monochrome.
I'd like to be able to see the Monochrome image on the screen as I'm shooting, but as you know, the only documented way to view the JPEG is to make a "New Version from Master JPEG"…..
    Suggestions?

no, there was no "?" displayed, all looks normal...  but in  just the develop screen it was a big grey blank, and 'folder could not be found"....    in frustration last night i closed everything down and today simply re-booted the entire computer and my mystery is this morning i can see the jpeg.....   i may never know what caused the glitch...  is it therefore a good idea to re-boot the HD after making changes like adding LR5???  Does LR5 need that to properly interface with other files/folders on a HD??  it would help to know before i add LR to my ultrabook!!  thanks so much for being available to all of us 'beginners'!!

  • How to keep Canon 5dMk2 "connected" while shooting tethered

    Folks,
    Is there a trick?
When I shoot tetherered LR3 loses contact with my camera (5Dmk2, but also 30D) way too quickly before shooting an image. Just fiddling with the props, set, lights, etc., is enough to lose contact. I have been turning the camera off and then back on but that's ridiculous.  I want just leave that rig set to make me a full screen image upon testing (firing shutter) and holding that image as long as I need foe extended checking. When I set it for live view on the tethered laptop I want it to stay open, as I probably have the laptop plugged in.
What am I missing here in the way of a setting?

First, a caveat...  I don't use tethered shooting much.  Infact, it's been at least a year, but my last experience...
You generally lose connection when the camera auto-shuts off.  So if you set the camera to not do that (external power? Menu setting?) then you shouldn't lose connection.  But I don't remember if it's possible for that camera to be set to not auto shut off.. if not, set it for as long as you can.  At least, that's what I remember!  Sorry if I'm not more helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Can I back up images in Lightroom to an external hard drive as I'm shooting tethered and sending files to a folder on the internal hard drive?

I'd like to be able to send files to both the internal hard drive and an external hard drive as I'm shooting tethered in Lightroom. Can this be done and if so how? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X can only restore data to the drive where Time Machine backed up files from.
If you want to restore files from the Time Machine backup onto an external drive, your only option is to access to the Time Machine drive manually (open a Finder window and choose your Time Machine drive in the Finder sidebar), navigate through its folders and copy the files you want to the external drive

  • Shooting tethered

I want to shoot tethered (which I can do) but need it to automatically update a slide show.  Adorama had video with Mike Wallace showing how to do it with LR4.  I have LR5 (and will be LR6 or CC) .  I have a cousin that used the LR4 for a photobooth for his daughters graduation.   I have been unable to accomplish this.  Please help anyone

It basically works as described in the manual, (page 171)  just make sure you have a test drive before you do it for real!

  • Shooting tethered straight into Lr...

    Hi,
I'm trying to shoot tethered straight into Lightroom. Here's what I did:
    - installed EOS software for my EOS 30D,
    - set in EOS Utility to open Lr when shooting images
    - Lr launches
Now, here's an issue: when I shoot Import dialog box opens inside Lr with one image. How can I get images straight into Lr without opening Import dialog box so I can get them all in Lr straight away?

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your replies.
    Here are my settings:
    EOS Utility :
    - Destination Folder set to: Watched Folder on my Desktop
    - Linked Software set to : Lightroom
    Lightroom:
    - Auto Import enabled
    - Auto Import settings:
              - Watched Folder - Watched Folder on Desktop (the same as in EOS Utility)
              - Destination - the same as above (Watched Folder)
So how do I get rid of the Import dialog box while shooting?

  • Unable to shoot tethered with a Canon 70D

I am trying to practice shooting tethered for an upcoming shoot. I am unable to get Lightroom and my Canon 70D to connect. I receive the dialog box shown below several seconds after attempting to connect. I went through all the steps on the "Troubleshooting tethered capture in Lightroom" and can shoot tethered using Canon's software. I am using Lightroom 5.3 on a MacBookPro 13 inch with 16 gb ram running system 10.9.1

Lightroom does not currently support tethering on the 70D.

  • Things Missing from Lightroom when shooting tethered

ave previously been using Leaf and Capture One, now we are converting to LR b/c of its features. But there are a few small things that I noticed are missing that should be easy to fix. First the compare window. When shooting tethered in Capture One you can pick a compare variant and it stay's up on the left and all the new captures show up on the right. I have tried the survey option in LR but when you make a capture or use the crop tool you're compare view goes away. This would be very helpful in my situation because we shoot high volume and the shots need to be as similar as possible.  Also something as simple as the grid, there are workaround's but annoying ones. Please just ad a grid button,so you can turn it on and leave it on, along with movable guide lines, these are the only little features that Capture One has and LR does not.

I would like to add my support for extra functions when shooting tethered - either via auto import or directly through LR.
One thing that would be really useful is an overlay function, just like all the medium format capture software has. An art director will often supply a pdf layout of a magazine cover with title, cover lines etc and this is overlaid on the image during the shoot to get everything in the right spot. I've tried doing this with a custom template in the print module of LR with limited success.
Also, a way to send a keyboard command to another app running in the background to initiate a capture via the camera's capture software would be great. This is primarily for cameras or digital backs that aren't supported directly through LR via tethered capture.
Another biggie would be to have a 'same as previous' develop preset (just like the medium format capture software, which does this by default) for auto imports, so that any changes made to the last-captured image will automatically be applied to any new captures. I know there is a way to option click the 'previous' button in the develop module and then hit enter to do this, but if this takes a few keystrokes, and if 'same as previous' is there in tethered capture it is obviously recognised as something useful so can we have it in auto import please!

Lightroom doesn't recognize mine camera, the Nikon D800 E to shoot tethering. There is no problem with mine laptop. Can you help me with this issue?
    Ronald ( the Netherlands)

Sure the laptop know's that the Nikon D800E is connected, but lightroom doesn't recognise this camera. Two weeks a go it wasn't a problem at all.

  • Converting Images to B&W Automatically when Shooting Tethered

I'm cool with setting up my camera to shoot tethered into Lightroom. No problem there. What I would like to know is if it is possible to automatically convert the JPEG files into grayscale upon transfer into Lightroom without having to press any further buttons to do so, ie. aoutomatically transfer images from camera to Lightroom in color, then convert to grayscale without any further action on my part. I know on "Import", this is no problem as a Preset can be used. But, there doesn't seem to be the ability to use a preset when shooting tethered that I am aware of.
I know I can set the camera to shoot grayscale and that would be one way to solve the problem. Ideally, though, I would like the images to come into lightroom as color and then convert to maintain color options later.
    Thanks for your help!

In the menu command File > Auto Import > Auto Import Settings, you can select a Develop preset. Just choose one that converts to black and white.
Edit - but re-reading your question, no. You would have to export the files to get b&w jpegs. Maybe I did understand first time!

  • Shooting tethered, no images display in Lr...

    Hi,
I'm trying to shoot tethered using canon EOS 7D and Lr 2.7.
    Here are my settings:
    EOS Utility installed and set:
    Lr set:
The images appear in the folder "Final" on the Desktop but not in Lr....  Auto-Import is enabled.
    Any ideas?

It would seem to me that you want the "Destination" in the
Eos utility to be the watched folder in LR, which then moves them to the desktop.
    Just a thought.

  • Problem Shooting tethered in LR 3.6  OS X 10.6.8 Nikon D3

I'm shooting with a Nikon D3 and am having trouble shooting tethered in Lightroom v3.6. Specifically, I'm getting the "No Camera Detected" message in the Lightroom tethered window.
All of my software is up to date. I'm running:
    OSX 10.6.8
    Lightroom 3.6
    D3 USB set to MTP/PTP
    D3 Firmware version 2.02 (for both A & B)
And no luck. The camera will fire fro the shutter release, but no image appears in Lightroom. I've tried many of the suggested fixes on the forum for this problem with Lightroom v3.4, but none have worked.
    Any suggestions?

Bill, I had a similar problem with Nikon Camera Control 2 Pro where the camera not detected message appeared. Nikon told me the usual things to check, USB cable provided by Nikon with ferrite coil surrounding the cable, fully charged batteries etc. Not of that worked! I finally figured out the problem with my system and offer my solution in hope that it will solve your problem. I'm running Win 7 Pro so my keystrokes may vary for your OS version:
    Here goes:
Start, Run, Type services.msc in the Open box, hit enter
Scroll to Windows Image Aquisition (WIA) service and double click the name
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic (don't click OK yet, do it after you are all done)
Select the Dependencies tab at the top of the WIA properties box to see the dependencies
Click on the + sign to the left of the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) dependency to see the system components
Go back to the services window and scroll to the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) line and double click it to open the properties box
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic, then click OK
Scroll to Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator service and double click the name
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic, then click OK
Scroll to RPC Endpoint Mapper service and double click the name
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic, then click OK
Scroll to DCOM Service Process Launcher service and double click the name
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic, then click OK
Scroll to Shell Hardware Detection service and double click the name
In the startup type pulldown menu select Automatic, then click OK
Click OK to finish closing the WIA properties box
You should be done at this time and may need to re-start the computer. (not sure of that but why not at this stage)
Hope that helps slve your problem, It did for me.
    Bill

  • Shooting Tethered into Lightroom

I plan on starting to shoot tethered at Professional Boxing and MMA events...
I will tether my Nikon D3 to a Windows 7 laptop containing Lightroom 4.1 .....I normally choose (my editor picks which matches they need) approxmetely  6 files per match, rather then export those full rez jpegs to a folder on my desktop and then move to Ip-switch to forward to my publishers FTP site .   Is it possible to select 6 files (full rez) then forward to a FTP site without leavling Lightroom , I have to speed up the entire process getting files to the FTP site as there's normally only a few mintines betweeen matches.
    Thank you .............Tomba-Images

There is a free FTP upload plugin included in the Lr SDK that will aloow you to export to FTP directly from within Lr to the FTP server address of your choice ... The current SDK kit can be found here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshoplightroom.html
I have been using the FTP plugin since Lr v2 without incident and I routinely upload single images or collections of several thousand to both client servers and my online shopping cart ... works very well and I don't have to deal with a mountain of derivative files and use an FTP client to complete the transfer ...

  • Make file backups while shooting tethered

I agree with others who have posted that LR needs to add the option of copying files to an external drive whens shooting tethered.
I use NIkon and the camera does not keep a copy in the camera when shooting tethered in LR.
Just makes so much obvious sense for LR to have a save as a copy option as files are brought in during tethered shooting. Why hasn't Adobe implemented this? It's been requested since LR 3, I believe.

Perhaps you should add your voice in the feature request forum: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om
