How to shorten a track?

Hi, I'm new to GarageBand (v3.0.2), and I'm building my first podcast.
How do you shorten a track? I have a song that I'm putting on the end, and I want to cut it from 60 seconds to around 30 seconds. It seems you can drag the end of the track by clicking and dragging, but that doesn't seem to shorten it.
I'm sure this is simple, but searching for "shorten" didn't bring up anything.

You got it. Keep in mind, yanking out chucks of a song can be an art-form unto itself, and you may find it take a lot of practice to remove something so that it doesn't sound like something was removed.
Also, one other suggestion, if it were me doing this I would do the editing of the song in an Audio editor.

I have a sound (narrative) track of approx 1 hr which talks about the movie film. However the film I have, is a slightly different version, that is about 10 min longer then the sound track and I would like to restore the match, e.g. by something like cutting the sound track and inserting blanks, or cutting and moving the sound a couple of seconds. Note I'm totally new to Premiere V 10. I presume I would have to use start and end marks in the sound track and place the subsequent sound parts on a new sound (or narrative?) track (but it seems I will need to introduce additional silent parts, I cannot just move (drag?) the next sound track a couple of seconds to the left.
I would guess there are a couple of easy tricks to achieve my goal.

Well well: not easy nor trivial at all, but I haven’t given up as yet! I’ll describe my workflow below.
1.       Play video fragment, and comparing film picture and sound estimate position where I need to introduce a silent period and it length.
2.       By double click play sound “comment track” on the monitor and set end stop (I would actually prefer if the sound track could be zoomed to more easily/accurately find best position)
3.       Play mute sound clip in preview and set time length with end stop and close preview
4.       Move mute clip to comment track, which has been shortened in step 2
5.       Play main sound clip in Preview and set start point
6.       Move this sound clip to comment track.
But sometime things go slightly wrong, e.g. when moving mute or sound fragment to “comment track” I find that the video track cuts (not intended)
Another difficulty I still need to master is related to the phenomena you mentioned before, related to moving sound clips, parts which were before the starting point show up (e.g. drag edges).
I hope you can roughly follow my explanatory story (I realise writing such workflow is difficult and critically depends on the same use of words concepts definitions and jargon (note my Adobe Premiere Elements is in Dutch).
I’d much appreciate your comments (maybe another software would be friendly to the inexperienced senior citizen)

How can I get Tracker to find a shared review PDF initiated in another domain?

I initiated a shared review for a PDF and stored it on a network server in domain X. Subseqauently, the server was moved into a different domain, call it Y.
Now, Acrobat Tracker can't find the PDF ... and reviewers can no longer access the PDF.
How can I get Tracker to find the PDF in the new domain Y?

No, this is not possible. You need to initiate the review again. This is because the review server information is embedded inside the PDF and when you change the review server, the JavaScript embedded in PDF still refers to the old server. So Tracker is unable to locate the review PDF.
If the old review has comments by other reviewers, you can save it as an archive and initiate review on new server on this new PDF. This way all the review comments can be retained in the PDF but they will be published "on behalf of" the initiator now.

While creating a project in Garage Band 09 my sample tracks were being cut short- I then discovered they had been overwritten in soundtrack pro.
Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?
I never opened soundtrack pro to edit the track just Garage band....the track just mysteriously saved as half the track.
I am running Lion and I upgraded my Garage band to '11 hoping it would resolve the issue...it didn't. Now I can't find that tracks at all.
The 2 songs having the issue are titled Exotic Yearning and Reunion.
I am in the process of reinstalling the audio content from my discs. I just don't want to run into this again.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated!

After spending some time reinstalling the soundtrack pro 3 content I opened the full track called Reunion.
It showed back up in Garage Band.*It was the full track and wasn't chopped off until I dragged it onto the project. Then it showed up chopped.
Then I closed Garaged band and opened soundtrack pro 3....The song was again chopped off at the 1:33min mark
Very Frusterated...:(

How to VIEW two tracks's materials SIMULTANEOUSLY and SYNCHRONIZED in MONITORS?
"Program-monitor" shows the final edited material, and "Source-monitor" shows only one track at a time, and NOT SYNCHRONIZED with the sequence. "MultiCam-monitor" shows the tracks as I need, BUT editing is very stiff: I want to do edits+cross-fades by hand IN THE TIMELEINE rather than by clicking the monitors. (Some of the "MultiCam-monitor's" other problems: 1) the timeline's time-inspector doesn't move while clicking the monitors, 2) vice-versa: monitor-image doesn't roll when the space-key is pressed for playback the timeline, 3) monitor doesn't show the cross-fades.....) I understand the "Reference-monitor" doesn't help either at this.
I would SO much like to SEE all tracks' materials simultaneously in whatever monitor, to edit efficently in the timeline.
Software: Premiere CS3 version 3.2.0
Operating System: Mac OS X (v10.4)

You can only do this in the multicamera monitor. That's what it's there for. Proper procedure is to cut there, then go to the timeline and add transitions.
If you're multicamera monitor playback isn't working correctly (I admit having a hard time understanding your points here), then try solving those.

How do I delete tracks in my itunes library?

I accidently downloaded an album more than once into my itumes library. How do I delete tracks or complete albums that I no longer want? I click the delete key on the keyboard, but that does not work. There is no DELETE choice available under File and Edit in Itunes.

1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
3. Click Songs in the navigation bar.
4. Click the song you want to delete.
5. Press Delete on your keyboard.
In iTunes 11 or later, the album cover art will remain visible, but a Download icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).
Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you can't download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.

Copy/paste - how to assign a track? how to chose insert vs. overwrite?

i don't know how to choose the tracks on which i to paste a clip on the timeline. i seem to have no control on which track gets the clip... it is usually the first track but not always, and i don't know how to make it paste the clip on a different track.
on FCP 1 and 2 it was easy to mark the track you want to work on but i can't figure it out on the later versions. what i usually do to avoid this is drag and drop the clip/s, but... occasionally when i do that it chooses to insert rather than overwrite - again, i don't know how to control that either... i'm sure this is simple stuff, but i don't know the right wording to find an answer in the help menu... can someone please help me out?...

look carefully at your video tracks in the timeline
you see there is a thin horizontal line that divides each track
when you are drag and drop editing:
if you drop the clip above the divide then you get an insert edit
if you drop the clip below the divide then you get an overwrite edit
(notice that the cursor changes depending on where in the track you are holding the track ... above the divide its an arrow that points to the right, denoting an insert edit ie pusing all other clips down the timeline; below the divide and it points downward, denoting an overwrite edit)
by the way, if you are copy and pasting then a normal paste operation (Cmd-V) will do an overwrite edit, but you can press Shift-V to do a "Paste Insert"

Editing Info
Each audio or video file in iTunes has several settings and tags that can be easily modified. These options can be accessed by selecting any file in the iTunes browser windows and selecting "Get Info" from the File menu. You can add song lyrics, artwork and set special playback options. The "Info" tab lets you edit information about the file including artist and album info.

Ok, completely new to garage band, but I don't see why this is so difficult to figure out. I get how to record a track, and then play it as a loop. But how do I then record something new WITH that loop, so that the two tracks play together (and not just record over it, deleting the first track). For example, how can I record a rhythm part on the guitar, stop it, hit the loop button, and then record a solo over it? Everytime I try this it either records over the first recording (deleting it), or even though it looks like its recording when I stop and hit play I am still only hearing the first track. Very frustrating...

You create a second track for the solo and record to the second track, then play both tracks together.
Use the "Record enable" button in the track header to enable only the solo guitar track for recording, once your rhythm loop has been recorded.

How do I add track marks to a continuous mix?

I purchased an album from iTunes that contains one track that is a continuous mix of music for over an hour. How do I add track marks to the mix when burning it to a cd? I would like to seperate it into smaller pieces while still preserving the continuous mix. Is this possible?

You can not do it in iTunes. Well I should say, you can not do it very easily. You basically need to break the file up into many files, one for each chapter. If the files can have gaps between them (they are not continuous live a live show) you can put those files back into iTunes and then burn them to a CD. If you need them to run together seamlessly, then you may need an outside application (like Toast) to put them on a CD with no gaps. I know iTunes now supports gapless playback, but I don't know if that includes when burning to a CDR or now. I still use iTunes v6, so no experience with it.

In iTunes, select all of the tracks that are on the same album (you can select mulitple items by holding down the command key and clicking on each item), right click and select "get info". Click on the Info tab and in the Album Artist field, type in the album artist. For example if you were to rip a Red Hot Chili Peppers CD, just put in Red Hot Chili Peppers and press ok. After that, they should all group into the same album.

How to move sound track with video to another drive

If I want to work on a project on another Mac, I copy the iMovie Events and Projects folders to a portable drive, then drag them into the correct folders of the other Mac. (Not sure if this is the best way, but it works.) But the sound track is missing if I don't have the same songs in that Mac's iTunes. What's the best way to keep the song with the project when I transfer to another Mac?

I tried the Consolidate command, and I see how it works, copying the events or clips to another >drive. But how does the music track get transferred? I don't see it in the copied folder.
If you followed the instructions, the music track is there. It is probably in the Project file. If you right click on the RCPROJECT file, select "Show Package Contents" and see if you can spot it.
If I consolidate from one computer to a portable drive, what happens when I plug the portable >drive into another computer? Does iMovie just see the project and events on the external drive? Or >do I have to drag them to the new computer's drive? What about the music tracks? Do I have to >import them into the other computer's iTunes?
Yes, iMovie sees the external drive, and you can work on your movie. If you prefer, you could drag the RCPROJECT file to the Movies/iMovie Events Folder and then run the Consolidate command again to move everything to the new computer, but you really don't need to. It should work fine on the external drive.
The external drive must be formatted as Mac OX Extended (journaled)
