How to show start up Disk on Desk top??

I am use to my iMac having the Hard Disk / Start up disk on my Desk top. Recently bought a Mac Book Pro. Is there a way to have the Hard Disk appear on the Desk Top?

Check the settings in the General tab of the Finder's preferences.

How do I empty or reduce the items in my start up disk?

You can use products like Omni DiskSweeper, Daisy Disk, and Grand Perspective to  breakdown and identify your file types and space they take. DiskSweeper will aid you in group file removal too.
Check also in the AppleMenu>About This Mac>Moreinfo>Storage to see if you have a significant amount of space taken up by Backups (Local Backups). If you do, eiter proceed to sync with your Time Machine drive, or turn off Time machine altogether to delete the Local Backups, if the space concerns you.

  • I would like to know how to DELETE icloud from my iMAC desk top. Would it automrically have synced with my wife's I pad, and other wireless devices, or is it all seperate

Can anyone help me out ?
I would like to get info on how to DELETE
iCLOUD from my desk top MAC.
Would it already have synced to the iPAD?
Apple does not give any info on the iCLOUD,
in a proper way to DELETE..for that matter,
I can't even find "SETTINGS" on my Mac,
let alone settings for iCLOUD.Any info
would be better than what Apple gives up.
Apple is useless when trying to get any information!

You have to search with some patience and you will find all the informations on the Apple support pages and here in this forum.
You find i Cloud in SAFARI at www.icloud.com and set as you like.
Usually iCloud sincs all the devices which have the same AppleID.
If you wish to use devices for different persons you need to give them different AplleID and on the MAC create different User Accounts. Each will be fully separate.
Or you can go to settings (settings are to be found under the apple icon on top left of the screen) and from there open Sistem Preferences and iCloud.

If you want to send it to the Trash, Control (right) click on it and select Move to Trash.
If you want to save it to Documents or somewhere else, simply click on hold and drag it to that location.

unable to set a web page on my desk top so i can pull up

    Hello,
    # You can click and drag the site identity button (padlock or globe icon to the left of the web link on your address bar) to your desktop.
    # Another way is to copy the web address, right click on your desktop and select New > Shortcut, and paste the web address in the box for the "location of the item".
    # A third way is to create another Firefox/Internet Explorer/Chrome/etc shortcut on your desktop, right click the shortcut and select properties. Under the Shortcut tab, paste the web address after the ".exe" part of the target line.

  • How to upload iPad photos to Mac Desk top

I have a number of photos located in iPad photo album and need to transfer them to my Mac Desk Top OS X 10.7, can this be done in lieu of sending  photos via email?      Walt

For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from email/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 (iPhoto or Aperture should detect them)
If you want to copy back photos that were originally synced from a computer then you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • How to reset Start Up Disk

I used the command System Preferences -> Startup Disk to select the partition that has the OS as the only partition to boot. Now, when I start up  the machine with the option key pressed, it doesn't show the Recovery volume and it won't let me start with an external flash drive. How do I fix this? Thanks.

If you have no recovery partition, then you did not install OS X properly or you deleted the partition. You can restore it: Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 – Updated for Mavericks | Musings.
I assume your flash drive does not have a bootable system installed.

    Hi,
There is a preference in iCal's Preferences to show event times. This does not transfer over to printing the calendar.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • HT201364 how to remove start up disk space

im using my macbook pro got in 2009 and need more memory to download updates

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • How can I float widgets over my desk top?

    Hi:
I am working on a Power Mac Tower running 10.8
I would like to see my widgets floating over my desktop reather then sliding in from the side over a very ungly backgound.
How can I get ride of this background?
I can float my widgets on my other computers but this one....no.
Is there a preference setting that I am missing.
Looking forward to a response and solution.
    Thanks,

System Preferences. Mission Control. Uncheck "Show Dashboard as a space".

  • How can I remove Firefox from my desk top (Safari is my main browser) I have a iMac & since I added Firefox, everything is messed up.

everything was fine with just Safari
(no offense, Firefox is what I use on work computer)

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.
