How to Shuffle a Playlist

With my iPod 3G I was able to shuffle a playlist by playing the playlist and then going back to settings and activating shuffle songs. On my new iPod Video when I click on suffle it immediately starts playing everything on my iPod (shuffled). Since I have a huge library of music of many genres, this is a mess! Does anyone know how to shuffle the songs in a single playlist?

Does trying this work?:
Go to "Settings > Shuffle". Select this option for "Songs".
Then, go to "Music > Playlists", highlight the playlist that you want to shuffle, and click the Play/Pause button on your iPod, or simply click on the name of the playlist that you want to shuffle.
Are you still getting the issues?
If you are, have you tried resetting the iPod? Hold the MENU and middle buttons together for 7 seconds.

I'm a bit confused, but I assume you want to shuffle your playlist while you are playing it in iTunes. If this is so, you will actually have to start playing a song before the shuffle button appears, and it appears in the top center panel of your iTunes window. Yeah, I know...

How to shuffle a playlist from shared music in Front Row

Hi. I'm using my Macbook Pro to play music streaming from my desktop onto my home stereo system. I would like to be able to shuffle music within a playlist, instead of shuffling all the music on my desktop.

If you mean how to take your existing media and turn it into a format that can be watched on ATV, the answer is to use Quicktime or some other program (there are many) and convert it to MPEG4, either the "simple" version or the H264 codec. These clips will then be able to stream or sync to any ATV connected to the network.
"Broadcast" in the sense of sending an over-the-air signal to those not connected to your network, is not something the ATV or iTunes can do. If you mean "Podcasting" (using the internet for others to connect to and see your work) that is a whole different ball of worms (or wax, depending on how you look at it) and doesn't have anything to do with ATV per se (which is to say you're better off asking it in another forum here).

How can I shuffle a playlist in iTunes for an iPod so my stereo play a large playlist in a seemingly random order

I have an iPod classic that I plug into my car stereo. My car stereo can play playlists, or if just plug it in, it will play every song in alphabetical order. Once plugged in, I cannot use the iPod to "shuffle". I require a pre-shuffled playlist. I have done this before in iTunes 11 will special instructions, but I've since misplaced those instructions. I know how to build a large playlist of all of my songs. Now, how do I shuffle that list of, say, 20,000 songs, and save to a new shuffled playlist? Don't say it can't be done, because I've done it. I know Apple removed the ability to do this quickly and easily, because obviously Apple doesn't really take their customers wants and needs into account. Otherwise, they would see the thousands of complaints after they removed that feature.
So, is there anyone here that can help me? I don't really need to hear that it's not supported or that it used to work. If you know how to shuffle a playlist and save it in that shuffled state, please post the steps for doing this in Windows iTunes 11.

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

How to shuffle playlists BEFORE syncing with your device? The new software doesn't seem to have that feature...

Does anyone know how to shuffle a playlist BEFORE you sync the iPod with iTunes? With the new software, I don't think iTunes has the option anymore.

The devices that are listed are: 2 under the name of the device that synced incorrectly with mine and then 3 others that are not associated with my itouch. The name of the ipod, before the incorrect sycning is no longer under devices. It has been replaced with the incorrect one because I can see the serial # of my ipod under the wrong name.
The playlists that are in my itunes library are from an ipod that I used a few times before I took this one over... Which happens to be the ipod that took on the ID of my itouch.
Both of these ipods used to be my kids.. I used my sons a few times and then switched to my daughters. They each had their names attachted to their particular devices and now it just says my sons, which is the ipod that itunes was connecting to when all this happened. The really strange thing is my son doesnt use his ipod any longer and now uses his phone for music...So, it had been a while since that particular device was even synced to itunes!

I have a few playlists on my iPod nano, and one of them is Christmas songs. I want to shuffle only the Christmas song playlist, but every year I can't remember how to do that. It seems that when I select shuffle, and go into that playlist and start playing a song, it shuffles...but it shuffles between all the songs in all my playlists. Do I have to do something different to make it shuffle only the songs in one playlist, and not play any songs from the other playlists?

Deggie, My son has an iphone and he created playlists on it. The first song in the playlist was the shuffle feature. If you selected this it would shuffle that playlist. Is this available for the ipod classic? It was a pretty cool feature.

How do I shuffle a playlist during a workout on an ipod nano 7th generation? The only shuffle option I see is for all songs, not a specific playlist. I know that I can begin a workout using the now playing option. How do you get the Touch to not shuffle a playlist?

I created a playlist for a class I teach, in a specific order. When I go to play it, it shuffles the playlist even though I did not hit the shuffle button. What am I missing? The shuffle is there to "shuffle" if I ask it to, so why is it doing it when I don't? Makes it hard to teach when it keeps changing the order.

The problem may not be Shuffle. iTouch changes the order of my playlists when they are put in a folder for syncing or transferring from iTunes to the iTouch - before they are ever transferred/synced. I am still trying to find out how to get it to maintain the order I set up when I created the Playlist of Songs in the first place in iTunes on my Mac. Very annoying and frustrating and that goes for the rather paltry instructions offered with this $300 device, too.

So far I have not found a way to shuffle pre-burn either...only to play.
It is another one of those lovely user-friendly features that doesn't seem to exist in iTunes 11...which seems to have been an update which was a step back for many loyal iTunes users. I sure wish I can use the previous, more intelligently designed version.
