How to shuffle photos (random order) in slide show?

The Help of my iPhoto says I can somewhere set an option to make the slide order of photos in a slideshow be random (shuffle). I don't see this in any of the menus! The help says
"Click Settings at the top of the Slideshow window to set one or more of the following options:"
my Settings are at the bottom, not at the top, and I see all the other choices (music, transition effects, etc.) but nothing about play order. Am I missing something?
Mike

This is one problem with on the fly slideshows and Ken Burns as you have no control on the zoom and the pan. If you want to have control you have to use the slideshow icon to create the slideshow and edit the Ken Burns effect on all or only those that are giving you the problem, Of course, you now can't do the random shuffle of slides.

  • Random order for slide show?

I have a lot of pictures in an album that I would like put in random order for a slide show. I want to burn that to a dvd to play at our day care centers (pics of the kids throughout the summer). is there any way to do this other than dragging and dropping the pictures manually? that takes a lot of time.

OK. Well here's a helpful answer. Someone's already written a quick Applescript for adding random numbers to every file in a folder. I added a little bit to the beginning and the end to let you be able to just drag and drop the folder onto the file, but give full credit to the poster
    Steps:
    (1) Open the Applescript Editor:
    Finder->Applications->Apple Script->Script Editor.app
    (2) In a new Script copy and paste the following text:
    --start copying
    on open the_Droppings
    tell application "Finder"
set separator to ("_") as text
set source to the_Droppings as alias
    set destination to make new folder at source with properties {name:"Shuffled"}
set shuffle_pool to duplicate files of source to destination
    set shuffle_count to count shuffle_pool
    set duplicates to {}
    repeat with shuffle_file in shuffle_pool
    repeat
set an_item to random number from 1 to shuffle_count
if an_item is not in duplicates then exit repeat
    end repeat
    shuffle_file as alias
set name of result to an_item & separator & name of result as string
set end of duplicates to an_item
    end repeat
    end tell
    end open
    -- stop pasting here
    (3) File->Save As
    (4) Type in a name for the file and IMPORTANT save it as an application.
    (5) Place all the images that you want to randomize into any folder. (In iPhoto6: File->Export from an album or; in iPhoto5: Share->Export)
    (6) Drag the folder with your images onto the little application that you saved from the Script Editor
    (7) The Script will create a new folder inside whatever folder you dropped on it called "Shuffled".
    (8) Now if you do an Edit->Add Slideshow in iDVD you can just drag the contents of the Shuffled folder to iDVD and you're done! It'll make a DVD in seconds! Now if only you could set the time to more than 10 seconds!

  • Random Display of Photo's in a Slide Show

Does anyone know of a way to make iPhoto display photographs randomly in a slide show? I have been looking for a "shuffle" feature similar to iTunes but can't seem to find one.

peter, your wisdom is limitless! where would i be without you? i shall now proceed to the Feedback page, but first, some apologies are at hand:
everyone, forgive me for my attempt to open Lori's mind into thinking that although unneeded, it would be nice to have this feature. my comment was unwarranted, superfluous, and distracting. next time, i'll be sure to check my arrogant ignorance at the door.
furthermore, i apologize for my initial stupidity in regards to requesting a feature. i should have known from both Apple Discussion Board etiquette and the actual rules & regulations that requesting a feature is greatly frowned upon and, to be honest, tasteless.

  • How can I make a CD full of photos play as a slide show?

    Hi all.
I hope I am posting in the right place.
On my XP machine I can insert a CD or DVD loaded with photos and without any convertions it loads and I can choose to view the photos as a slide show by clicking on an command in the left window "View as slide show".
Does the Mac OS X have a similar and simple way to view photos as an automated slide show?
If so, how would I go about working it?
    Regards

My bad, I'm thinking of 10.4 Tiger, not 10.5 Leopard.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

  • Photo Quality Difference - DVD Slide Show vs iMovie

I have seen a marked difference in quality of photos in iDVD slide shows vs photos I've incorporated in iMovie. The iMovie rendered photos are very high resolution and fill the screen, whereas photos rendered as a slide show in iDVD are of poor resolution and don't fill the screen.
    Any thoughts?
    Gil

All iDVD produced videos are 'Standard Definition' - that is 640 pixels wide and 480 pixels high (give or take). Therefore, all of your megapixels are being reduced to 0.3 megapixels on the screen. There is nothing you can do about this - SD video is this size. The only thing you can do is make sure the necessary 'downscaling' is done as well as possible. For my still picture presentations on DVD, I use a program called 'Photo to Movie' (LQ Graphics), along with iDVD. It seems to do a better job of the downscaling process, along with having some neat features not in iMovie. I have produced many 'slideshows' that are certainly not HD, but are pleasing to view on an HD TV (pillarboxed). Others use 'Fotomagico' for the same purpose, but I have no experience with that program. HTH.

Use the Caption metadata to add slide text then click the ABC icon in the slideshow module, followed by clicking the up/down icon, then choose Edit. Insert the Caption option from the IPTC Data box.

  • How to arrange photo orders for slide show?

    Hello,
The photos I uploaded to the iPod are in seemingly random order. How is that order determined? Should I rearrange them in iTunes or in the original folder first? How would I do so? Thanks!

I have been following this thread with great interest. I have tried to do this in Aperture as well. Jumping ahead just a bit to what might be David's next issue, once we figure out why the option is not available to him.
For me once the music has been added the " Align slide to the beat" is available. However it doesn't seem to do anything.
I have accomplished this in iMovie and Final Cut Express. In both of these programs you have to actually mark the beats for things to work. You mark the beats and the software sets the play duration to match. This is pretty easy in iMovie. I am hoping for a similar or better interface in Aperture 3. How is this accomplished in Aperture?

  • Photos: Random-order slideshow; how?

In iPhoto a valuable feature was a slideshow in random order. How is this done in Photos?

    Petersit:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you selecting an album and then using the Play button in the bottom toolbar? If so, then in the Setting window there's a checkbox, checked by default, setting the order to random. Uncheck it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to shuffle photos when creating a slideshow?

When I click the slideshow button on an album I have the option to shuffle photos, but do not have the same option when I create a slideshow. I want to save the slideshow; can I save a slideshow played after using the slideshow button? Or how can I shuffle photos in my album instead of having them listed by date?

    Thxs.
I too just tried to shuffle all the photos in a new slidehsow and the "Shuffle Slide Oer" is grayed out and does NOT allow me to select this very, very important option!!!

  • Apple TV photo order in Slide Show

There are several posts relating to the order that photos are shown on Apple TV Slide Show. The problem is that when photos are moved via iTunes Home Sharing from iPhoto or another folder, the exact order is lost when they arrive at the Apple TV. Many of the previous posts suggest causes and fixes, yet NONE of them really solve the problem. So, I have started this new post to see if somewhere out there there is an answer. When photos are arranged in a particular order (ideally by file name, which makes the most sense and is easiest to work with), either in iPhoto or in another folder, they should STAY in that order for presentation as a Slide Show on Apple TV. I have tried several ways to export the photos; none of them achieve the desired result - some photos always get out of order, even with as few as 10 photos. This really makes Apple TV unacceptable for Slide Shows. Who wants to watch a slide show that keeps jumping around by date or by place or whatever?
To date, I am using a second generation Apple TV, iPhoto 9 ver 8.1.2, iTunes 12.0.1.26, on a MacBook Pro OS 10.9.5.
Is there a solution that works consistently? If not, or unless I have missed something, why hasn't Apple addressed this?

I have the exact same issue and I have tried everything....
It really *****. It must be a config or similar issue, as there's not many postings on this....anyone with a cure? Let me know!

  • How to delete photos in order to gain more space

    hi everyone,
i know how to delete photos and vidéos, but the avalaible space does not change.
is there a way to gain space?
    Thank you

salientgreen is right. But my suggestion is that you'd better first transfer these data to your computer to have a backup and then delete them to free up space.
By the way, you can open Settings and navigate to General > Usage to get an idea of your storage consumption. Music, videos, and photos might be the biggest offender.

  • Why can I not check the 'shuffle images' box in a slide show settings in iPhoto 9.6?

Why can I not check the 'Shuffle images' box in settings of a slide show in iPhoto 9.6? All other settings I can check but this one.

    Hey Brad,
If you are unable to select the shuffle images checkbox, follow the steps in this article -
    iPhoto '11: Change slideshow settings
    Specifically -
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Be well,

  • A How To: Create a Widescreen High Definition Slide Show from the Organizer

[EDIT] I just tried another one and, weirdly, that produced an output with black bars around all four sides! So maybe this 'how to' is not 100%.  I have considered deleting the post altogether but, as it does still produce a superior slideshow quality file than the standard ones provided with Elements,  I've decided to leave it with this edit added at the top for additional info.[END_EDIT]
In answering a question in another forum I found a nice quick way to create proper widescreen high definition slide shows from just the Elements Organizer. Apologies if this is 'old news' to readers, but I've not seen this described elsewhere so I thought I'd share it.
The Organizer Slide Show creator, if not wanting to edit in PRE, provides a small set of Windows Media Player profiles to create .wmv files. But the best of these goes only to 1024x768 (a 4:3 monitor resolution setting). I've noticed, but never paid much attention to, that at the bottom of the Slide Size box there is a 'Browse for more' option that lets you search for additional Windows Media Encoder profiles. Investigation showed me that I can download the Windows Media Encoder software from Microsoft and create my own profiles. But even further investigation showed  me that someone had already done this! I've tested their full HD profile and it works just fine (1920x1080).
So if you are just after a straightforward slide show (i.e. not needing PRE features) but want it displayed on your Full HD TV set here is what you do:
Download the HD Profiles from http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/236895-hd-profiles-for-windows-movie-maker/. There's also a couple of useful SD sizes there as well. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Create your slide show in the Organizer. Obviously use appropriately sized images for HD. There's little point outputting an HD wmv file using low resolution and/or 4:3 aspect ratio images.
Save and Output your slide show.
In the output dialog ('Save As a File') scroll down to the bottom of Slide Size and select 'Browse for more ...'.
Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
Click OK and your Widescreen HD .wmv file is prepared.
Here's a Gspot analysis of my test output file. As you can see it is an HD file with a 16:9, square pixel, aspect ratio.
    Ta Da!

You did not mention a specific Premiere Elements Elements Organizer combo for this, so for now I will address this from the version 11, not Windows Movie Maker, perspective if I need to get version specific.
    .prx
The Browse for More is a well known route and does offer at least one Adobe profile for 1280 x 720 16:9. I am not sure where you came up with the lesser resolution,1024 x 768 that you mentioned. The Windows Media profiles have existed for several versions of Elements Organizer. Those Adobe ones that you do not see under Output Save As A File Movie (.wmv), can be found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path
    Local Disc C
    Profile Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Elements 11 Organizer
    Assets
    Locale
    en_US
    tv_profiles
in the tv_profiles Folder are included the .prx files
    .....10. 640 x 480 Enhanced Definitions
    .....12. 852 x 480 Widescreen Enhanced Definition
    .....14 1280 x 720 Widescreen High Definition
A homemade 1920 x 1080 16:9 30 frames per second .prx has long been sought but not that easily produced by many using with the Windows Media Encoder Editor. Apparently you have found one online, and it does get accepted into the Premiere Elements 11 Browse for More choices. And, if you do a gspot readout for the wmv output from Elements Organizer 11, it will display all the "right" properties that you hoped for and that are shown in your screenshot.
The bottom line, why bother with the wmv slideshow? If you take your original photos and size them for 1920 x 1080 16:9, use them in the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor (Crops used in preferences), use the Edit with Premiere Elements Editor command, what you get in Premiere Elements 11 is full and good in all regard. Have you tried it?
I can see your interest if this is HD going to HD (AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, but I do not see this for an Elements Organizer Slideshow that is going to DVD-VIDEO widescreen.
    More later.
