How to shutdown WinXP

I want to shutdown WinXP.
In win9x and WinNT is this done by ExitWindowsEx in the user32.dll but this doesn't work in WinXP.

Try some of the stuff mentioned here or here.
They talk about ExitWindowsEx but go on from there to other methods that work with Windows 2000. If it works with Windows 2000, it might work with XP.

    HI Chandu,
vlan 100, shutdown, and  interface vlan 100, shutdown
Shutting down the interface  vlan 2 disables the Layer 3 interface for that VLAN on the switch.  This means hosts will still be able to communicate WITHIN the VLAN  (Layer 2) but can not be routed off of the subnet.
Shutting  down the VLAN (vlan 2) disables Layer 2 switching of that VLAN on the  switch. This will effectively turn off all layer 2 switching on the  VLAN (preventing all communication).

  • Extremely Slow Computer Shutdown (WinXP with iTunes7)

I am running WinXP Media Center 2005 (SP2) on an Intel Pentium D-950 with 2 gig RAM. Prior to installing iTunes 7, the duration of the shutdown procedure could be measured in seconds. However, now that iTunes 7 has been installed, the shutdown process takes more than 3 minutes. BTW, if I uninstall iTunes7, then everything goes back to normal. Do you have any ideas for fixing this issue?
Intel Pentium D 950   Windows XP Pro   Media Center 2005 SP2

i think we'd better check to see if it's a systemwide issue on the MCE machine, or if it's associated with a specific user account.
(i'm leaning away from the MCE conflict theory just at the moment, because i haven't seen the flood of reports i'd expect with a general conflict like that ... we'll revisit it if necessary, though.)
    let's try some experiments.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
    (experiment a)
first try shutting down the PC from inside the new account.
does it shut down slowly, or in a more rapid fashion than the usual user account?
if it shuts down rapidly, let's try another experiment.
    (experiment b)
launch the PC. go into the new user account. launch itunes. eventually, you'll see a blank library screen. don't be alarmed, your music is in the other library in your other user account.
    shut down itunes.
(by launching and shutting down itunes, we will have created itunes preference files, and various other things that weren't there before.)
now try shutting down the PC again. is it still a rapid shutdown, or has it slowed down again for you?

  • How to shutdown and startup oracle 11g R1 from dbcontrol (EM)?

    Dear All,
I have already installed oracle 11g R1. The database is running smooth including the dbcontrol / EM.
I have difficulty in shutdown and restart database from EM.
How to set EM, so that I can start and shutdown the database from EM?

    Hi,
If you are in windows, this is a very common problem.
You can try setting the logon as batch job to the OS user from local security policy
    1.Go Control Panel, Administrative Tools.
    2. Click on Local Security Policy.
    3. Local Policies, User Rights Assignment.
    4. Double click, 'Log on as a batch job'
Here provide username along with domain name like co.uk\foo

  • How to shutdown all adapters?

We need to shutdown all adapters for 2 hours.  But the PI7.0 must be up.
Could you help tell how to achieve this?
    Thanks a lot!

    Kelly,
This is how you can do:
Q 3: How can the RfcAdapter be started and stopped?
A: The RfcAdapter is implemented as a J2EE Service and thus this service has to be started and stopped. This will affect the whole RfcAdapter and can be done from the J2EE Engines Visual Administrator. When you are connected to the J2EE Engine choose the tab 'Cluster' and open the appropriate server node in the tree. Then open the 'Services' node. There you can see the entry 'SAP XI Adapter: RFC'. When you open the context menu on this entry you can start and stop the service.
This is for RFC adapter. Similarly you see all there only. This is from OSS note: 730870

  • How to install WinXP Pro over W2k on the Satellite Pro 6100?

    Hi there,
    I have brought a 2nd hand Satellite Pro, Model version SP6100 (PS610E-029ZV-EN), P4 1.7Ghz, 512Mb, 30GB, with Windows 2000 Pro installed.
I cannot get the wireless to connect to my router. The switch is in the correct position.
I have been advised that it could possibly be a conflict between the wireless facility and Win2000 Pro. Therefore I want to change to WinXP Pro using the key supplied with the laptop from new (dual OS). However I can't get it to reformat using an WinXP Pro disk at start up, the disk is ignored and Win2000 Pro loads. If I use the recovery cd (start with holding C down and release when it runs up) something begins which I presume to be an installation sequence however within seconds I see a reference to a z drive(?), a brief display of three rows of "invalid drive specification" and it again loads Win2000 Pro.
Can anyone advise how (or if!) I can reformat?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

Possibly its a wrong booting order but usually after pressing the C button the notebook should boot up from the CD.
You said the drive does something and I think the booting from drive was activated but the drive is not able to read from the medium.
For me it sounds like a drive malfunction.
By the way: Check in the device manager if your notebook has installed WLan card. I think you cannot connect to WLan router because the card was not installed. The WLan switch is available because the WLan card is optional for this notebook. You know?

  • How to install WinXP on SATA without floppy drive?

    Hi.
Is it possible to install WinXP on PC (with SATA) without floppy drive?
WinXP installer itself doesn't recognize SATA controller, so floppy disk with drivers is included.
But my PC doesn't have any floppy drive (what a relic. none of new PCs should contain a floppy).
How could I install WinXP on my PC? (without buying & mounting floppy drive).
(maybe one of DVD drives, ethernet or flash drive could be used somehow)
    thanks.

    Jeremy,
If you are having to do that all the time, then there is something else wrong with your computing habbits.
    Richard
I used to try out programs on my old laptop and some of them weren't as clean as I had hoped. So I used to reinstall windows on it all the time. Luckily windows had all the drivers for my laptop so I didn't have to slipstream the drivers, but I probably reinstalled windows every other week. I just figured it was better to try a program on a computer that I didn't rely on rather than my main rig.
    Have Fun
