How to sign out from FaceTime?

Disclaimer - For me the Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture very different from that found in most 1st world nations, such as that in the two dominant North American countries. Written language has no tone. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Go to Settings/FaceTime and tap your Apple ID account. The tap Sign Out in the pop up window.

Open Facetime, click the Facetime menu and click Preferences. If you prefer keyboard shortcuts in any app, just click Command + Spacebar and this will open Preferences.

Some users may have Spotlight set up for that keyboard shortcut.
The most common keyboard shortcut application Preferences is (Command + ,).

  • Have continuous request to sign in to FaceTime on ipad model MC980LL/A without phone capacity. How can I clear this?

I am having a problem with a request to sign in to FaceTime although my Ipad does not have that capability. I can cancel the request, but it comes back almost immediately.  Suspect virus, but don"t know how to clear it.

One other thing to note with this newfangled iOS 8.3 and FaceTime. If you have both an iPad and an iPhone and someone calls you, your iPad might start ringing as well. And you can even answer on the iPad without touching the phone. Same happens if you have a Mac with the latest OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.
Cute novelty that might actually be useful for you. But that can cause unexpected battery drain and cellular charges*. And this happens even if you've turned FaceTime off. To control, visit Settings / FaceTime, turn it on if off and see the iPhone Cellular Calls toggle. Then you can turn FaceTime back off if you don't use it.
*Cellular charges: FaceTime is adamant about accomplishing the connection. If Wi-Fi is available, that will be preferred, but otherwise the cellular link will be used if that exists. And that can be a costly proposition. The OP won't have to worry about this.

  • HT5538 How do I get a FaceTime app on my iPhone 5?

How do I get a FaceTime app on my iPhone 5? I've set up my wife's iPad without any problems and followed the same procedure with the phone but I've had no success. All I have had from Apple is an email stating that my ID was used to sign into FaceTime. Is there a delay before it is activated and will a FaceTime app appear?

Facetime is not an application on the iPhone. It is built into the iOS. You need to go into Settings and activate Facetime. Then you access it via the Contacts app. Check the manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf for information. This support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319 also provides info on  using Facetime.

    Hey jeanettefromiw,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues signing into FaceTime on your iPhone 5. The following resources should assist you in troubleshooting these issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
If you see "Could not sign in, please check your network connection and try again" when signing in to your Apple ID
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you have a data connection by going to www.apple.com in Safari. You can complete Apple ID activation using Wi-Fi or a cellular data connection. If you need help connecting to Wi-Fi, follow these steps.
If you're using Wi-Fi, make sure that your local Wi-Fi network is using the recommended Wi-Fi settings.
Sign in to your account and ensure that the primary email address and alternate e-mail addresses have been verified. If verification is pending, follow the instructions in the email Apple sent to that email address to complete verification. Or remove the e-mail addresses from the account.
If your Apple ID isn't an email address, you can change it. The Apple ID that you're using to activate FaceTime or iMessage must be an email address. Find more information on how to change your Apple ID.
Tap Settings > General > Date & Time. Make sure that your iPhone is set to the correct time zone. If Set Automatically is on but the wrong time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
Enable iMessage and FaceTime while connected to a different Wi-Fi network (in a different location) if a cellular data connection is not available.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPad Mini - "Sign in to Facetime"

When I open iPad Mini, the "sign in to Facetime" screen immediately pops up, with a keyboard. I can hit 'cancel' but it pops back up in a second. I cannot use the iPad Mini because of this. I have never signed into Facetime, nor do I want to. It's like a virus has attacked. How do I make this stop? Thank you. JoAnne

    Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • I have changed my apple ID but cannot get my Mac computer to change it on iCloud.  I have signed out but do not know how to sign back in with my new id.

I have successfully changed my apple ID and password, but cannot get my Mac computer to change it on iCloud.  I have accessed system preferences, iCloud and sign out.  But now I do not know how to sign in using my new id and password.  I would like iCloud to work on my Mac so that it will sync to my iPhone and iPad.  I have installed all of the latest software.  How do I change this account on my Mac?

Do you have your Mac backed up?
If not, you should use Time Machine to back up your Mac to an external hard drive just "in case".
But if all you did was change your existing ID, then deleting the Calendar infomation from the Mac when you sign out should not be an issue. Since it is the same Apple ID, it is the same iCloud account (just with a different name), so your Contacts, Calendars, etc. are stored in iCloud. When you sign back in, you will have the option to sync Contacts, Calendars, Notes, etc. with iCloud - it should already be checked. Just sign back in, and your iCloud info will re-download to your Mac.
I just tried this, and all of my stuff showed up when I signed back in. Notes took a couple of seconds to load once I opened them, but they are all there.
Note: If you are signing on with a brand new Apple ID, then nothing will be downloaded because it will be an entirely different iCloud account. But if it is the same Apple/iCloud/iTunes ID with just a new email, then it will all be restored.
    Cheers,
