How to Sign with a digital ID?

after reading all available documentation I could not understand why the digital signature options are not available when I want to sign a pdf file created online. Can anybody help please?

First make sure you've already authorized your computer to your Adobe ID (under Help in the upper left corner of Adobe Digital Editions). Then plug in your reader with the USB cord and tell it to Connect to the computer. After a minute, you should see the reader on the left  in ADE and there's a dropdown list of things you can do, including authorizing or deauthorizing it to your Adobe ID. caveat: I have version 2.0 and I assume that version 3.0 is basically the same.
If you don't have your computer or readers authorized, then only the one where a book was bought or borrowed (i.e. a library book) 'owns' it and it can't be copied anywhere else. If you buy or borrow something on an authorized device, then your Adobe ID 'owns' it and it can be copied to another device authorized to your ID. I have a library of 1000+ ebooks and have my library backed up in case my computer dies. I can get a new computer, reinstall ADE, authorize my computer to my ID and import all my books again and everything will still be readable (it's happened...)

    Adobe Flash Projector EXE files signed with Authenticode digital signatures do not launch and run successfully.
    It is not currently possible to directly sign a Flash Projector EXE file. Doing so is causing the projector to fail to launch or run.
    What is the way to do it without involving 3rd party tool

    I searched for this in our bug database, but the only bug I found was reported (and deferred) back in 2008.  Other than using 3rd party tools, it doesn't look like this is possible.  I'd recommend opening a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com.  Please post back with the URL or bug number so others can vote and add their comments.

  • Cannot insert pages into PDFs after signed with a digital signature in adobe 9

    Is there any workaround that allows me to insert additional pages into a SIGNED pdf?
    Background:
    Author of a form create a form that needs multiple signatures and pages appended and converts to PDF for signing. Person 1 signs it, and sends it to person 2. Person 2 needs to include additional documentation and inserts the pages before signing.
    In the new version, I noticed that it changes the document security which may prevent the insert after you sign it. How do I disable this?

    Hi Bob,
    You may not like the answer, but it cannot be disabled. In previous versions, when you added a page it invalidated the signature. Starting with Acrobat 9, once the PDF file is signed you can no longer make changes that effect the content of the core PDF. The change was made to protect the integrity of the signature. You can still add comments, but (without getting too geeky) comments are not part of the core PDF like pages are, they live in a separate level. Also, you can still add form data, but like comments, what you type into a form field is not part of the core PDF.
    The bottom line is, we made the change to protect the integrity of the signture, and the signature protects the integrity of the document. Thus, changes to the document are no longer allowed in signed files.

  • Once a form has been signed with a digital signature, why can't you insert a bookmark?

    We are using Adobe 9 on Windows XP, I'm not sure what the forms are created in.
    I understand why you wouldn't allow a form to be changed once it's been signed digitally (because the person is attesting to the contents as they are when the person signed the form). I don't understand why we can't add bookmarks to pages in the form? The bookmark technically is a change but not a substantive change to the form. Is there a way to add links to places in the form after a digital signature has been created?

    Hi Christic3,
    This is a bit geeky, but here goes. Think of the PDF file in two layers (there are really more, but we'll keep it at two for simplicity). The bottom layer is the PDF content such as fonts, structure tags, and pages. The top layer is form data and comments (aka annotations). When you sign the PDF you sign everything (both layers), but the only allowable changes to the file are additions to the top layer. You can add form data and comments, but you cannot modify anything in the bottom layer without breaking existing signatures. In fact, you can't change (by change I mean modify or delete) anything on the top layer either, but you can add new (unsigned) items.
    Bookmarks are part of the underlying PDF structure. Because they are as integral to the underlying structure as anything else, the ability to modify the bookmarks is locked after signing, otherwise it would be too easy to break the signature.

    Regarding your first question about bookmarks, I think you discovered the answer in when you pressed the address bar. The second tab there has your bookmarks.
    As for the keyboard, I'm not sure why your Firefox is reacting so slowly; mine seems to show keyboards even when I don't want them. If you have accumulated a lot of history, perhaps that's an issue?
    Did you use any third party software to move your Firefox data from internal memory to the storage card?

  • Signing with apple id

    I am new to acrobat 9...
    I am trying File, Save As certified document....for a document I send to clients.  It is not exactly top secret material, but it seems to me the certifying has advantages.  I don't want to buy a certifiecation from adobe parters, so I ma using the apple certification.
    But, when I open the document, I get the message below, which to me would look bad to clients seeing it (I would rather send in uncertified that have that message).  How do I get rid of these types of messages?
    Above the document it says:
    “The validity of the document certification in UNKNOWN.  The author could not be verified.”
    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
    The PKI universe (which is where digital signatures reside) is a complex place. There are a lot of little pieces that have to be in place to get a digital signature to be valid. The first thing is a certificate in the signature chain has to be designated as a trust anchor. Without trust nothing else happens. The key here is trust must be granted by the verifier (in this case, your customer), it is not something that can be imbued in the signature by the signer (in this case, you). Acrobat (and when I say Acrobat I really mean both Acrobat and Reader) looks to see if a certificate in the chain has been trusted by checking in both the Acrobat Address Book (Manage Trusted Identities list) and the Windows Certificate Store (if the preference is selected). At this time we are not checking in the Mac Keychain for trust, although you can sign with a digital ID located in the Mac Keychain (beginning with Acrobat 9).
    Once trust has been established the next thing Acrobat has to do is check the validity of each certificate in the signing chain. One part of this validity check is revocation checking, but if you are using a certificate that does not provide for a means to do revocation checking the signature will come up in the Unknown state. You can get around this by deselecting the preference to require revocation checking, but every one of your clients would have to do this as well as it is on by default.
    Your best bet is to procure a digital ID issued by one of our CDS partners. You can start at http://www.adobe.com/security/partners_cds.html if you want to learn more.

  • Signing with digital id in Acrobat Reader DC

    We have been using Acrobat Digital Signatures for long time. I have just installed Reader DC and I am trying to find out how it can be done in this new version. In the Edit / Preferences I am able to create digital ID and setup it's appearance but I cannot find how to sign the pdf document with this signature. Is it still possible ? How it should be done ??
    Regards,
    Tony

    Acrobat/Reader 7 has not and will not be updated to work with Windows 7.
    Acrobat/Reader 7 is not longer supported or updated by Adobe.
    You should upgrade to version 9 or X.

    Hi Amitk,
    PDF is a commercial software which is not supported in MSDN forum. Maybe some forum talk about PDF is a better place to ask this question.
    I make a quick research on the web, and you may need to use some third party to sign a PDF document through DSC. Check this :

    Hope this helps some.

  • Java XML Digital Signature API, how to sign different files

    Hello,
    I need to sign several files: binary and/or xml (in some cases just part of xml), and to implement digitla signatures in xAdes standard. So I'm looking to use Java XML Digital signature API, but can't find any examples, that would cover issues I encountered:
    How to sign binary file?
    Just to sign some simple "aaa.png" file and have it's signature in XML. How in right way to create referece?
    (should it be something like: Reference ref = fac.newReference("aaa.png", fac.newDigestMethod(DigestMethod.SHA1, null), null, null, null); )
    And how to pass file for signing? what to add/change to this code:
    Document doc = dbf.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new FileInputStream("aaa.png"));
    DOMSignContext dsc = new DOMSignContext(keyEntry.getPrivateKey(), doc.getDocumentElement());
    (I have only found some information about needing to "dereference" or so - but no examples, how to make things work.)
    How to sing several different files?
    As I wrote before, several files needs to be signed, but in all examples, it's only one Document object (and only one file), how/where to add more files and if API will be capable to deal with such thing?
    In one of examples what I have to achive was such code:
    <Reference URI="aaa.png" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#">
    <DigestMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#sha1" />
    <DigestValue>8rl/xzjAnE4yQQ2LTBvFTU2JH+c=</DigestValue>
    </Reference>
    If I do write code like: "fac.newReference("aaa.png", <...> );
    I'll get an error during signing: signature.sign(dsc);
    *"java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: aaa.png"*
    How to avoid this?
    Also, from exmaple (what to reach) above:
    <Reference URI="aaa.png" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#">
    There is additional attribute "xmlns=<...>" - the question is if it is possible to add it by XMLSignatureFactory.newReference ?
    Java API adds a lot of prefixes "ds:" , like:
    <...>
    <ds:Reference URI="file:/D:/try5/SignableMetadata0.xml">
    <ds:Transforms>
    <ds:Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#enveloped-signature" />
    </ds:Transforms>
    <...>
    Is it possible to avoid them?
    Any help on any of these questions would be very appreciated

  • How to Start With Digital Signature

    Hi Wolfgang,
    I open this thread in reference of the discuss in thread
    Logon Failed using SSL Client Certificate
    I copy the text:
    Hi Wolfgang,
    Thanks for your quick response...
    I don't have very clear what I want to use or which is the best way...I'm still in researching stage...:-) and customer hasn't allready specified what he wants...
    We want to research and learn as many as we can to offer to customer the best alternative...
    All I know is that customer would need:
    - Single sign-on to the system, including SAP systems and Portal
    - Digital signing documents.
    They work with a local CA called Izenpe (www.izenpe.com) and they give you a SmartCard with your key...
    I've found program SSFSDEMO and it works ok: it calls 'izenpe's libraries and sign the document ok. But I find the problem that the moment I call SSFS_CALL_CONTROL function I lose program control... I would prefer customize SAP using SIGNO,SIGNA, ELSIG00, ELSIG01...transactions to allow SAP user to sign or not, but sign with my certificate...
    I don't have any external security product to configure...as far as I know customer is against paying for an any other product...
    I've tried to sign using SSF* functions but as I've read it only runs to sign in WAS, is it true? it is not possible to sign in local? I allways get signature with server certificate, but not with my own certificate... :-((
    What do you think? How do I start? Which is the best way?
    Thank you very much for your help!
    Regards.

    Hello Urtzi,
    to build a solution that meets the customer requirements (single sign-on to the system, including SAP systems and Portal, and digital signing documents - all using digital certificates), the customer will need a certified 3rd-party solution. If you want to investigate, you should start with the SAP Software Solution Partner Catalog at [http://sspcatalog.sap.com/catalog/index.jsp], and search for SSO and digital signature.

  • I have changed my apple ID but cannot get my Mac computer to change it on iCloud.  I have signed out but do not know how to sign back in with my new id.

    I have successfully changed my apple ID and password, but cannot get my Mac computer to change it on iCloud.  I have accessed system preferences, iCloud and sign out.  But now I do not know how to sign in using my new id and password.  I would like iCloud to work on my Mac so that it will sync to my iPhone and iPad.  I have installed all of the latest software.  How do I change this account on my Mac?

    Do you have your Mac backed up?
    If not, you should use Time Machine to back up your Mac to an external hard drive just "in case".
    But if all you did was change your existing ID, then deleting the Calendar infomation from the Mac when you sign out should not be an issue. Since it is the same Apple ID, it is the same iCloud account (just with a different name), so your Contacts, Calendars, etc. are stored in iCloud. When you sign back in, you will have the option to sync Contacts, Calendars, Notes, etc. with iCloud - it should already be checked. Just sign back in, and your iCloud info will re-download to your Mac.
    I just tried this, and all of my stuff showed up when I signed back in. Notes took a couple of seconds to load once I opened them, but they are all there.
    Note: If you are signing on with a brand new Apple ID, then nothing will be downloaded because it will be an entirely different iCloud account. But if it is the same Apple/iCloud/iTunes ID with just a new email, then it will all be restored.
    Cheers,
    GB
