How to simply play an album!

I'm pretty computer-literate, yet for the life of me, have been unable to determine how to play an album from start to finish, unless I check each song in the album first.
Can someone enlighten me as to whether this is in fact the cumbersome way to achieve this or if there is a better way?
Also, after playing with the new iPhone 2.0 REMOTE app, I have not yet been able to understand how to play an album via that interface as well...
Thanks for any help!

Leave all your music checked. You can play an album by 1) turning off shuffle (or setting it to shuffle albums in the Preferences), 2) sorting on the Album column, and 3) double-clicking the cover in Cover Flow (or the first track of the album). The album will then play, from track 1 on.
If you don't want another album to start right after, there are several means to that end: 1) Enter the name of the album in the search box, so only that album is displayed. 2) As Diane suggested, select the album in the Album pane of the Browser so only that album is displayed. 3) Create an empty playlist. Go to Party Shuffle and tell Party Shuffle to use that playlist as its source. Then return to your library, highlight the album you want to play, control-click the tracks, and choose "Play next in Party Shuffle". Party Shuffle will play only that album, then try to draw the next track from the empty playlist and stop.

  • How do you play an album in the correct order?

Just bought an ATV. 160GB model, software version 2.3.
I've synched it to my MacBook's iTunes library, and it plays music fine. However, I can't find a way to simply play an album in the correct sequence. If I navigate to an album and open, the only options are to shuffle the songs (which I don't want to do!), or to play one track at a time. I assumed that if I played the 1st track, it would continue to play the rest of the album (as iTunes does on my Macs and PCs), but it just plays the 1st track and stops.
I've looked through all the settings in the ATV, but can't find anything to change this. I hope I'm being stupid, and have missed something really obvious, but at the moment this is doing my head in! Can anyone help??
    Thanks!

You assumed correctly, and it should continue to play the rest of the album in order. Does this happen to all your albums. Have you tried restarting the tv.

  • How Do You Play One Album with New Cover Art Browser

This seems to be such a simple thing to do and yet I can not figure it out. How are u supposed to only play one album when viewing by the Cover Art Browser. I assumed double clicking the album art would play the album, but it doesnt. I've tried everything and it's driving me crazy. I just dont see the point of this view if you can't even play the individual albums without the entire library playing too.

In preferences, (Edit -> Preferences on a Windows-based PC or iTunes-> Preferences on a Mac), then the Playback tab. There is an option to specify how to shuffle, either by individual songs, albums, or groupings.
If you want some randomness, and a random song in there you might try leaving it on songs, and move the Smart Shuffle slider towards the left.

  • How can I play an album in order on my iphone?  The shuffle is turned off both on the phone and when the phone is sync'd but it continues to shuffle.

How can I play songs from an album in order on my iphone 4?  The shyuffle is turned off both on the phone and on the device when I sync the phone with my iMac but it continues to shuffle.  All the songs in the album have been checked in iTunes.

Bill, you ignorant moron.  Turn off the ultra secret hidden shuffle diabolically placed behind the album cover.  Just tap the album cover to expose the sinister little shuffle icon on the right.  Is it blue?  Well, tap it until it is no longer blue! Also, make sure you are in your playlist and not the genius playlist.
Hope this helps!  Now, who's ready for ice cream?  Or do  you want to "shyuffle" some more, you weirdo?!?

  • How do I play one album at a time?

I want to play one album at a time by artists for whom I have multiple albums. I have the newest generation ipod touch. One album at a time used to be the default mode, but with the new operating system iOS7, this is no longer the case.  Here's an example - I want to play the Pixies "Surfer Rosa," but when i click on the first song, it says it's playing 1 of 58 songs continuously - I want it to stop playing after "Surfer Rosa," I want it to say it's playing 1 of 14 songs.  Is there a simple fix for this?  Something in general settings or music settings that I have overlooked?
I have found one way to play just one album, but it seems a bit complicated for what should be a simple fix.  I click on the first song on Surfer Rosa, then click on the 3 dot 3 line icon in the upper right corner, then click on another song, then back to the first song, then click done, and now it says it's playing 1 of 14 songs.  It's nice to have found this way around the issue, but, it's a lot of steps for something that used to be the default mode.

Do you really mean upload as in transferring the files to another computer somewhere, or do you mean you ripped as in ripping a CD to copy the music to your computer?
Select the tracks you want to edit, Get Info on them, then enter the desired album name.

  • How do I play one album at a time by an artist?

I have the newest generation ipod touch and i just downloaded the new iOS7.  I would like to play one album at a time by an artist for whom i have multiple albums, but the new design won't let me do it (easily that is).  For example, if I want to play "Surfer Rosa" by the Pixies, I tap on the first song and it show it is 1 or 58 songs, meaning it will continuously play through all the albums.  I want it to say 1 of 14 so it will stop playing after "Surfer Rosa" is done.  I've checked in general settings and music settings and I can't find anything to fix the issue.  Am I missing something?
I have found one way to play one album at a time.  I click on the first song in the album, then tap the "3 dot 3 line" icon on the right, click on another song in the album, then click on the first song again, tap "done" and then it shows that I am playing 1 of 14 songs.  This seems like an elaborate fix for something as simple as wanting to play one album at a time.

Turn on *shuffle songs* and then start the Podcast episode you want. The display should say "1 of 1" because all Podcasts are set to *Skip on shuffle* so the one you're playing is the only option for the iPod.

  • How do you play an album from start to finish without mixing the songs?

I may be old-fashioned, but I want to play my albums from start to finish without having the songs mixed. I have tried almost anything, but it kips jumping randomly from song to song on an album. Extremely annoying if you are listening to a concept album like Berlin by Einstürzende Neubaten!!

Either I am a complete idiot (which could be :-D ), or I have done something that disables the functions you are describing. I have taken screenshots of available menus on my iPhone:

  • How can I play all albums of a same genre in shuffle mode?

Since I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOs 7, I can't play all my albums of a same genre in shuffle mode like I used to do with iOs 6.

The Touch will only play Albums in the correct track order when you select an album, but then it will only play that one album.
If you want to play multiple Albums in their correct track order, your options are to either:
1- Make a playlist in iTunes that is sorted by Album (or Album by Artist), sync the playlist to the Touch, and play the playlist with Shuffle turned OFF, or
2- Make an On The Go playlist on the Touch by adding one Album at a time and play it with Shuffle turned OFF, or
3- Look for the free app called "Album Mixer" which gives you the "Album Shuffle" capability found on other iPods -- i.e. the playback is by Album in normal track order, then when the Album completes it will jump to track #1 of a randomly-selected Album and play that one in track order.

  • How do I play an album?

I have albums synced fine on my iPhone.
    Individual songs play fine.
When I select an album in the album list I get taken to the list of tracks with the Shuffle button at the top. That's fine.
Clicking on the first song in the album plays that song.
    And then it repeats.
    +And repeats.+
    *+And repeats.+*
To get ito to play the second song I have to select it in the list.
*How do I get it to play the tracks from the album??*
I've looked in the manual and i can only find instructions for playing a song.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks all.
    Dave

When playing a song in "now playing" view (where you hold phone in portrait mode and see artwork) tap screen once so you can view the scrub bar. to the left of the scrub bar is the repeat toggle. Looks like a miniature oval shaped race track. Tap this until it turns white (to turn repeat off).
    Enjoy.

  • How can I play multiple albums from same artist in album order on iPhone 4?

Just purchased an iPhone 4 from Verizon. When I select an Artist and then choose "All Songs", the only choice I am provided is to play the songs in alphabetic order. I would prefer to play them in the original album order. Is there a setting that can be changed to accomplish this?

For those who arrive here later than this answer, the app is now called "Continue" & is available free with addware or paid without.

  • How to simply play one mp3 at a time without a playlist or duplicate file creation

What's always baffled me about Itunes is the overkill factor for we who are media professionals and simply need
to be able to select and playback an audio file - without the proprietary architecture of the whole "Playlist" format...
and, as long as we're at it, without automatically having a duplicate of whatever is being played, created and placed
    in a new folder somewhere.
"Back in the day..."  I could take SoundJam - (actually the predecessor app that Itunes was originally based upon)
--which i still regularly use for easy conversion of .aifs to .mp3s --  and select/play any number of mp3s located in a
single file folder at random.  No "playlist" was created or needed -  and it didn't/doesn't dupe a copy of the file.
Can i in any way scale down or customize Itunes in a way that i can just play each mp3 in a given folder by selecting
it 'directly' and not have to have it generate a playlist "copy" -  My use for Itunes as far as commercial production is
for quick review/play of sound elements, spots (commercials) audio clips, etc. For this I'm not looking to "order" or
organize anything, just simply start/stop an audio cut and move to another.
Alternately, any suggestions on simpler practical alternative 3rd party apps... Stuff like "Vox" comes kinda close but
i still have to drag and drop the icon of the audio file onto the app's icon to initiate play.  Still, at least it doesn't force
me into a Playlist or generate a copy just by selecting and playing the cut.
If this makes sense to anyone I'd really appreciate any ideas,
    Thanks!

In a Finder window, select a song and press the Space bar.

  • How do i play a list of ten complete albums?

I want to listen to my music the way the production engineer put it together in complete albulms, How do I do this in Itunes? Thie is the biggest thing I miss about music match.
    Thanks in advance.

If I go by your subject title; "how do (I) play a list of ten complete albums", then the answer is put each album into the same Playlist, in the order you want them to play, and then play the list without using shuffle.
    However, if I look at the body of your thread;
    survey89 wrote:

that suggests that you are simply referring to one album at a time, and that my previous answer would not in fact address your issue.
So, even though I'm still smarting from the bashing I had after helping someone else with that question, I'll point you to the thread. The subject title is
Is there any way whatsoever to listen to an album exactly as it was recorded without it inserting gaps between the tracks, crossfading, or anything else?
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20240686#20240686
You will probably need to read the complete thread, I'm afraid.
Feel free to ask further questions about your issue.

  • How can I play album songs in correct sequence?

How can I play album songs in their correct sequence -- without having to create a playlist for each album? I like to play songs from my primary "Music" Library, sorting to albums or songs via it.
I've imported songs from albums that for some reason do not play in proper sequence: I'll sort the Library by "Album" but, even though the tracks are correctly sequenced in the "Get Info" box (Track Number "x" of "x"), they always play in some other order.
I have tried all the sorting choices under "Album" but to no avail. Any ideas?
I know I can rearrange the songs by click-and-drag -- IF I create a playlist and then re-order them. Really??
I hate to say it (as a decades-long Mac addict) but iTunes is becoming less and less a worthy organizing tool/database and more and more just a sales tool/gimmick.

My problem might be solved. For anyone similarly troubled, I found this in the iTunes Windows forum from a member named Turingtest2:
See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Tracks out of sequence.

p.s. I am not knowledgeable of Apple/iTunes etc, I was under the impression that if I purchased an album then I can use my purchase on a non-Apple device

    Micky,
The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format.  Most Android phones can play AACs.  Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices.  You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

It sounds like you might have the shuffle button at the bottom left of the iTunes (the button with the squiggly lines).
If that's not the case, then maybe you just need to sort your library by album by clicking the album tab at the top.
Is your music in a playlist, or are you trying to play it from the entire library?
