How to: Slide in violin software instrument?

Hi,
I'm wondering how you guys make the Violin (software instrument) in slide mode? Maybe I'm using the wrong term, but what I'm trying to question is how to slide up from C1 to C2? I'm trying to edit it via Hyper Draw > Pitch Bend, but not works!
Please suggest your precious idea, appreciate!

Jim,
Thanks!
The idea above might changed the whole instrument to that pitch/octave then? So, how do slide it from C1 to C2 then? Possible to hyper draw the EXS pitch bend to fit the need above?
Thanks again!

  • How to fine tune a software instrument

Can anyone tell me how to fine-tune a software instrument that's a little sharp for my audio track? Is there an easy way to do that?

Which instrument? Here it is for the EXS24 II.

  • How can I add new software instruments to Logic Express?

I just got Logic Express 8 and was disappointed to see that there were not as many instruments available as I thought there were. Is there a way I can add additional software instruments to my library without having to spend 300 more dollars to get Logic Studio?

    Hi,
the cheapest way would be to buy a specific sample library from a music store and import them into the EXS24 Sampler. There are also some free downloadable ones, but i think they are not very satifactory.
Maybe a Jam Pack would help, also. Don't have one myself, so this is a shot in the dark.
However, i would encourage you to think about logic pro. You don't only get the sound library, but some very useful tools and plugins that Express doesn't contain. If i had the money, i would instantly go for it.

  • How to convert mp3 software instrument samples to format garageband can use

    Hi and thanks in advance.
I'm using GB '08 on OSX 10.4.11 w/ a G4 MDD. ( Sorry folks,  This is the setup that I have and cannot buy a new computer or software at this time)
I'm pretty new too DAW and all of this but want to compose music with traditional orchestra sounds as well as what GB offers.
I have found Muse Score and I can get some pretty good results for writing but I want to expand the software instrument voices that GB has.
    I found  http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/thesoundexchange/make_music/samples/library/
and they have some pretty good sounding software instruments for free, except that they are in mp3 format.
I did some reading and see that GB understands a different format for this. I put some of the sounds into the correct GB folder as a test and result is of course no go. I see that GB uses exs and cst files in addition to wav and aff files.
How do I convert mp3 software instrument samples to the formats garageband can use? Is there a way? What would I need to do this?
    Thanks again..

The first step would probably be to convert the samples into AIFF files, that's what GB's sample files are in.
But so far that's only a collection of samples - what you need is a sampler file that tells the software which sample to trigger with which key (the .exs files in GB's instrument library).
Since your software is old, t works pretty well with soundfonts (the latest versions have problems), so you might try this software to create them:
    http://sonicamigos.com/polyphontics/
    All about soundfonts:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Tutorials/SoundFonts.html
P.S.: The softare costs $60, but you can create 10 instruments for free.

  • Fine-Tuning Software Instruments

I prefer tuning my loops and instruments by hand. How do I adjust a software instrument by only a few microtones? A semitone is too large of a step. Thanks very much. Peace.
    iBook G3, 1.42 Mac mini G4 DVD±RW   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   640Mb SDRAM, 1gb DDRAM

I need to add a couple of microtones to my software instrument because the samples that I am using for a particular composition are a little bit sharp and fall between the pitches that are available with the software instrument. I usually make my own loops, you see. Peace.

  • HELP! Maximum number of Software Instruments Tracks reached!

WHY IS THERE A LIMIT?! I've got 94 patches, but lots of layers and splits.
What is this limit and how can I get more software instrument tracks?!
I've been using it live for a few months, but this could be the endgame. =(
    sk

So I'm running a fairly intense mainstage concert.
Macbook (black) 4gb ram, 2.4ghz CPU
My first 30 patches are various general sounds that get used a ton on cover-band/top 40 gigs. They include pianos, rhodes, b3's, pads, guitars, and that type of stuff.
Every one of those patches also has strings layered (I bring them in with a foot pedal) and breath control horns layered.
I have now moved those layers to Set level to reclaim some instrument channels. I'm having to do some less-than-pretty workarounds to make this work elegantly in live performance.
The other 60 sounds are layers and splits for specific songs (i.e.: Madonna Holiday, Jessie's Girl, all the way up to sounds for Britney's Gimme More, and Love Song by Sara Bareille).
Most of the time I have 2-3 sounds/layers I'm going between for each song, usually swapping with a foot pedal.
I also have a small bank of left hand bass + piano, organ, rhodes type patches with the same layered Strings and Horns as above.
I perform professionally with a dozen different event entertainment bands and acts. They are constantly adding and exchanging material. I need (1) mainstage file for all of them. I just can't go between files and constantly be needing to get to other instruments that I have to wait to load.
My load time for my file is a little under 60 seconds, and I'm using about 50-60 of my own EXS multisamples taken from my existing keyboard rig (I've got all the important sounds for most every tune I do on my Fantom, and have been sampling and adapting them to EXS24).
So, while 256 software instruments may appear unusual, once you consider the needs of a flexible professional using the software, 256 is quite a limiting number. I also don't usually see a set list ahead of time (a few bands I work with don't use set lists, they just call tunes) so the idea of building a set ahead of time is not practical nor feasible.
512 would last me for a long, long time. I'd probably eventually hit the limit, but it would be a couple years. 1024 seems like a reasonable maximum, especially if it's an arbitrary limit in code with no bearings on memory management, or any drastic engine-rewriting behavior.
PLEASE increase the limit. Nearing 256, Mainstage still runs snappy, I've got 1.5gigs of RAM open for additional samples. An arbitrary limit of 256 is just silly. Every keyboard out there has >1000 presets and sounds available. My Fantom-X allows me 64 internal performances (with 16 channels each) and 64 performances on a card. That's 2048 'instrument channels'.
Please!! I am addicted to the coolness of mainstage and I don't wanna go back to hardware. I just did a gig in Cancun and all I had to bring was my laptop.

  • In Logic Pro 9, how many midi controlled software instruments do you get...?

In Logic Pro 9, how many midi controlled software instruments do you get and is there possibility to download more as it says 40 on the programs info on the Mac Store, as i intend to compose on it but with only 40 instruments it's not really worth it.
So i was just wondering whether it let you download more for free.
    Thanks for reading
    ~Matt

Yes: I too am interested in the software instruments available in Logic Pro: one has to be a bit wary of the jam packs because there don't seem to be many solo instruments included. But I looked at the Logic screen in an Apple store the other day, and it worked like GarageBand in
this respect: you created a new track choosing the software instrument option and a whole lot of instruments came
up in a column on the right: lots of solo wind instruments, plenty of keyboards and guitars of course and not very many solo strings, only one violin, in the world music subsection under Irish fiddle. Yehudi Menuhin
where are you when we need you?
What I've been trying to find out is which part of the purchase does this long list of software instruments arrive with, because it's basically the only reason
I'm interested - I get on fine with gb but it
Just hasn't got enough instruments, and as I say the jam packs don't seem
to resolve this ? Or do they? Could someone please help
    me with this?

  • How can I record a microphone and software instrument at the same time in Garageband 10.0.1?  It seems I can record one or the other, but not both at the same time?

I am trying to record a vocal mic and a keyboard (using a software instrument) at the same time using Garageband 10.0.1.  It seems that I can't record the mic input and the software instrument at the same time.  I can record the mic input by itself, and I can record the software instrument by itself (if I don't have a mic input track created), but I can't record them together.
It seems like this should be an obvious thing to be able to do, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks,
    Kurt

you need to "record enable" both tracks:

  • How do I open software instrument interfaces like ES1, etc?

I am completely new to Logic. I just got Logic Pro X and even after browsing the manual, I can't figure out something that should be pretty simple: how do I open the special visual interfaces for the software instruments like ES1, Sculpture, etc.? I don't see these listed in my instruments library either. I'm just really confused and would really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Once you have created an Instrument track
    Slecet the track...
Move your mouse pointer over the Instrument (or FX) slot in the track/channel inspector strip
You will see the slot changes to depict three different symbols in a row.
    From Left to Right....
The first symbol is the On/Off button to turn a plugin on or off.
The second brings up the visual interface for that plugin
The third opens the Load Plugin Menu which you use to load in other plugins...
Here is a screenshot of the instrument slot and the symbols.. (Again, the symbols only appear when you move your mouse pointer over the slot.)
That's interesting to me, my "slots" don't "depict three symbols in a row" after having just created a SI track, only after loading them

  • How to install software instruments?

    Hi.
    I'm a real beginner with Logic 8.
Last night I successfully did my first project.
But I noticed that in the set of software instruments which come with the program there weren't all the instruments I wanted to use ... for example Alto Flute and a Trumpet solo!
Is it possible to install other software instrument libraries and have them show up in the media browser?
Excuse me if this has been asked before or is plainly stated in the manuals. If so, could someone please point me in the correct direction to find out how?

Is it possible to install other software instrument libraries and have them show up in the media browser?
You can buy all sorts of extra instrument libraries. They would come with installation instructions, and they would show up in the Logic Library (which is a little different than the Browser).

  • How to set female voice as software instrument?

I want to use the GarageBand software keyboard to play female vocals (to use in practicing pitch matching). I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Maybe there's a plugin I need?
I'm pretty technically competent, but a novice w/music sw.
To be clear, I don't want setting that optimize recording a real female voice. I just want to press a key and hear a female voice, in tune, that I can match the pitch of my own voice to.

Do you have the JamPacks installed?
In the Jam Pack "Voices" is a Software Instrument "Synth Soprano Solo". That is the closest you can get to a female solo voice with the ready made instruments.
The JamPacks are available as part of MainStage 3 bought from the AppStore.
Or create your own vocal instrument by duplicating a "Sound effectss" Instrument and adding your own samples to the scales.
Sing the scales once and correct the pitch with flextime to get it perfect. Export the scales as an audio file and reimport it.
Cut out regions "C", "C#","D". etc.
Create a software instrument track.and set it to "Sound Effects Instument". Safe the Instrument with anew name . Now modify the sound effects by dragging your samples to the corresponding keys and you can play your own voice perfectly in tune.
    Safe your new instrument.
See this help text: GarageBand '11: Play sounds with the Sound Effects Software Instrument
You will see the sound effects you added to your custom instrument, when you hover the mouse over the keys. This will display the name of the sample the key will play.

  • How do I find out which instruments are used by software instrument loops?

This isn't so much a problem, it's just something that's been bugging me - how do I find out which instruments are used by the software instrument loops?
Usually clicking on a track will bring up the instrument name in the track info pane, but if I do this after importing a software instrument loop into my song it doesn't show anything. Any ideas?
PS I have used the search function so I apologise in advance if there's an obvious answer.

in track info, under details, the instrument being used is displayed in the generator popUp menu

  • HELP !!! how to hear a simple sound from software instrument ????????

It's a simple question, but I lost half an hour to find a button to hit play and hear one single sound from software instruments, but no success. I saw the video tutorials and they skip the basic.
Very frustrating, I think I will have some difficulty in understanding how this program works.
I cannot do nothing with it, besides adding chapters and songs from itunes.
I need to take a course in Garage Band.
    I found it. It's a keyboard.

i think the first thing to do would be to check with Mackie support. two things noted on Mackie's website:
    DRIVERS::
No Driver Required for Supported Windows (PC) or OS X (Mac) Versions
    (note "supported")
    and
    For the Mac::
    Mac OS X 10.4.11 – 10.7.1
ask if their firmware currently supports OS X 10.9.x
