How to smooth pixelated edges of Rounded Rectangle Filter?

I'm using the rounded rectangle filter to divide the frame into about 25 pieces (a mosaic type of transition is what Im going for) and I like the look of the round rectangle but the four corners are terribly pixelated. Is this just an oversight on the part of the programs developers or is there a setting I am over looking?
Thanks Mac People,
Justin!

Hey Jim,
I am seeing the pixelation on my monitor. The oval shape filters work just fine, and thats what has me scratching my head.
Also, i have my Filmo figured out, except for the dial one the viewfinder that changes the size of the frame in side it. Do those numbers correlate with different size lenses? Do you have any suggestions and what lenses I should look into and where to find them. Theere is only one on the camera as is, a very small one about the size of a golf ball.
Thanks again Jim,
Justin!

• How to smooth edges?

Hi all,
I am in hopes that someone can tell me how to smooth the edges of the numbers in the attached image?
Thanks for any advice, hints. etc.

Hi.
Here's a little more food for thought.
Noel and Paulo have offered good suggestions for getting very close to the desired result. But the characters might still need a little tweaking.
Before I tweaked, I would convert the character to a vector path. And do my tweaking on the path. Refining the path should be fairly simple, and when you're done you have a character that can be scaled to your hearts content and it will be crisp.
Taking Paulo or Noel's method as a starting point, Ctrl+Click on the layer thumbnail then Alt+Click on the "Make work path from selection" button at the bottom of the Paths pallet. In the pop up, select a Tolerance value. 1or 2 pixels if your character is small. Higher if it's larger. Experiment to get the best effect. You will now have an editable vector path. It needs to be edited.
Then using the Direct Selection Tool (A)and the Pen Tool (P) you can perfect the letter. There is no drawing with the Pen Tool. Just adding and deleting points. Some points will have to be converted from corner to smooth and vice versa. Some will need to be moved a little. I selected the point or points then used the arrow keys to nudge them.
Below is my finished vector path. As you can see, on this particular font most of the handles are vertical or horizontal. Part of what gives this font its characteristic shape. And it makes things a little easier. Once a point is in the right position, just hold down the Shift key while you drag the handle to adjust the curve. Mostly points will have to be deleted. The fewer the points the better. But no less than you need. They're cheap. (Caveat: Make sure you rename your work path. Otherwise, if you make a new path, you'll lose it.)
Below, the path is rendered at 3 sizes, Huge, Large, and Actual Size of the screenshot. They are all crisp. Make it big as a barn and it will still be crisp.
Anyway, if you're going to be fiddling around with fonts, I'd suggest you learn vectors if you don't know them already. The scalability is necessary. As Noel said, Ps is not ideal for this. But the vector tools in Ps are quite good enough to get you going. If you are comfortable with paths, you can convert the Magic Wand selection directly into a path and not refine it first as Noel and Paul suggested. That's what I did. It won't look as good as a converted selection modified by Noel or Paulo's method at first, but it may not be any harder to perfect.
Once you have the path perfected, you may also convert the path into a Custom Shape. Then using the Shape Tool (U) you can drag and draw the shape to size. You can create a Shape Tool Library for the font. See the Help Files for details.
Another note about this font. The circles at the end of some of the letters are really circles.You can use this to your advantage when tuning up the letters.
That should be plenty to chew on top of what the others have already put on your plate.
Peace,
Lee

• Premiere Pro cs6 How to adjust radius of rounded rectangle

I think my title covers my question.
How do I adjust radius of rounded rectangle in Premiere Pro CS6? Trying to make a lower third and don't want the exaggerated rounded corner.  Is there a way to adjust the radius of the corner?
Thanks

how about using the pen tool? Either place your rounded rectangle in your spot (to use as a template, guide to line up, or practice pen) and draw over with the pen tool
or, draw your rounded rectangle with the pen (no guide)
with the pen - properties - graphic type - choose 'filled bezier'
EDIT - just using the rounded rectangle tool, gives the properties- graphic type - round rectangle (ah, but then I also see a 'rounded corner rectangle')
so, change option to 'filled bezier' and either delete middle anchor point of corner and use convert anchor point tool to pull out corners
or - change option to 'filled bezier' choose pen tool, select middle anchor point, click, hold and move to your choice
or I have misunderstood your rounded rectangle to be either
1. round rectangle
2. rounded corner rectangle

• Jagged edges when using rounded rectangle

Hi,
Hope someone can help me here.
I am designing a website for myself (first timer) and have created menu bars and buttons using the rounded rectangle tool.
The images look good but the edges are pixelated.
I am using anti-alias and have also try feathered but to no avail.
When I preview the site in the browser I can still see the pixelated edges (I assumed it might be a magnification or resolution issue)
I am not using any images, have not extracted etc. I am simply using the rounded rectangle to create a menu bar and then colouring it in as a gradient, adding text and that's pretty much it.
Any help given here will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eddie

You shouldn't see anything in the browser that you don't see in Fireworks. If you have magnified your view by zooming your browser, then reset it to normal zoom. If that isn't the problem...
One thing you can try is to make your navigation images 2 or 4 times larger than you want, export the files, import them and reduce them to 50% or 25%, depending. Sometimes, you can get what appears to be a smoother edge by reduction than you can with Firework's anti-aliasing of rounded shapes.

• How to smooth edges of a layer in Illustrator?

Okay, I'm not exactly sure how to phrase my question, but I'll do my best.
Basically I have a drawing that was made in Photoshop and now I need to make it larger. However, it gets pixellated of course. Therefore I want to put it in Illustrator and make the edges smoother (it's basically four colors that do not blend, so each color is separate).
Is there any fairly easy way to do this? I figure I could either smooth the edges or turn it into a vector. I know Photoshop and InDesign, but I haven't used Illustrator at all, so I have no idea how to do this.
Sorry if I wasn't clear on something, please let me know. Thank you very much!

You can also make a path/paths out of your layer/selection in Photoshop and copy to Illie.
It will probably be more accurate that way if you handle it right.
Once you have pasted a path into Illie it becomes an "Object" (Illiespeak) on a layer. Illie's layers can hold many objects.
Now all you have to do is colour it (Color ans Swatches palettes).

• Rounded Rectangle Tool - how to set default corners?

This has been bugging me for ages, time to get an answer!
How can you set the rounded corners to a default value? I know that while manually creating a mask, using the arrow keys I can increase/decrease the size of the corners. I was hoping that this last setting would be remembered so, with a layer selected, I could double-click on the Rounded Rectangle Tool and it creates a mask with rounded corners at the last setting.
Doesn't happen. Any ideas?
Also, while I have your ear, how do I hide a mask in the Layer Viewer in CS6? I'm sure there was an icon for it in previous verions and neither the Hide Edges keyboard shortcuts or the mask button in the Composition window has any effect.

Cheers Mylenium. I seem to remember in past versions of AE we got a little button in the Layers window the same as in the Composition window that toggles the mask edges (not the mask) on and off:
I just want to hide the mask edges regardless of the popup selection. Think I'm going bonkers as I'm sure it used to be there and I can't be the only one that found it useful!!

• Rounded rectangle set corner radius in pixels?

If I create a rounded rectangle, is it possible to set a pixel dimension on the corner radius rather than dragging the handle and doing it by eye?
Thanks

Yes. Change from the default % to px in the Properties panel. You can also enter an exact radius in the Autoshape Properties panel if you use the rounded rectangle auto shape instead of a regular rectangle.

• How to magnify a rounded rectangle

Hello,
How to magnify a rounded rectangle if I would like the size
of it's rounded corners to stay fix? The script I draw the
rectangle with:
function DrawRoundedRectangle(X:Number, Y:Number, W:Number,
H:Number, Roundness:Number, Thickness:Number, Tint:Number,
Alpha:Number) {
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("Rect", 1);
_root.Rect.lineStyle(Thickness, Tint, Alpha, true, "none");
_root.Rect.moveTo(X, Y + Roundness);
_root.Rect.curveTo(X, Y, X + Roundness, Y);
_root.Rect.lineTo(X + (W - Roundness), Y);
_root.Rect.curveTo(X + W, Y, X + W, Y + Roundness);
_root.Rect.lineTo(X + W, Y + (H - Roundness));
_root.Rect.curveTo(X + W, Y + H, X + (W - Roundness), Y + H);
_root.Rect.lineTo(X + Roundness, Y + H);
_root.Rect.curveTo(X, Y + H, X, Y + (H - Roundness));
_root.Rect.lineTo(X, Y + Roundness);
DrawRoundedRectangle(10, 10, 120, 90, 10, 1, 0x000000, 100);
If I change it's _width or _height property unfortunately
it's rounded corners grows too. And the other problem I don't
understand: Why do the x and y coordinates of the rectangle change
when I magnify it?

I would use the 'scale9Grid' movieclip property, where as
when applied to a movieclip the rounded corners will not deform. An
easy way to use this property, if you can, would be to use it on a
movieclip symbol in the library where you can adjust the grids
during author-time. Here is a link from the livedocs;

• How do you smooth the edges of an image

Hi,
How do you smooth the edges of an image, like the question mark edges?
Regards Peter

      You could duplicate the image (Ctrl+J)
Then apply some blur (Filter >> Blur >>Gaussian Blur)
That will blur the whole image so apply a layer mask and invert (press Ctrl+I)
Set foreground color chip to white and select the brush and choose a very small diameter. Then brush gently over the edges to reveal the blur.
You can switch the color chip to black to undo a mistake then back to white to continue.
Alternatively simply select the blur tool from the tools pallet (keep pressing the R key to tab tool choices) and blur the edges as wanted. It’s a little more crude but will probably do the job.

• How to make ROUNDED rectangle default style cp8?

Hi,
I want my smart shape style to be rounded rectangle, not squared. I have set up my object styles with color and all that good stuff, but there is no way I can see to make it the rounded shape instead of the squared off shape.  I also tried to change one on the properties panel thinking I could "apply to all" but that option is not available.  I am trying to use smart shapes as my captions in recording and it sure would be nice not to have to touch every single one and change it to rounded - defeats the purpose of styles, yes?
Using CP8, latest version (I checked and there are no updates available), on a windows machine, 64 bit.
Thanks!!!
Kelly

Rick, that option has effect on the captions inserted while creating a software simulation.
@LMS_90 About which shapes as Text container are you talking? Object styles for Shapes do not include the 'form' of the shape. And at this moment, you cannot set such a form as being included in the default style, with the one exception that Rick points out: added text during a simulation capture.
Even for Success/Failure/Hint shapes you cannot define that it always has to be a rounded rectangle. For Question slides, you can set them up in the master slides, and if you use always master slides with placeholders it is also possible. Quite a lot of the default themes have rounded rectangle shapes as text container for Title and Subtitle.
Also in the Properties the 'form' is not part of the style: if you apply the default Shape Style that includes Stroke, Fill, Character properties, Margins, Shadow...but not the shape itself. That is the reason why 'Apply to all' cannot be used for the shape form.
This is probably not the answer you expected, I try to change as much as possible in the Master slide.

• Round rectangle edges are blurred...

I have seen people complain about this, but no work arounds. The blurry eddges I see on the rounded portion of round rectangles is awful. IS there a workaround?
Graham

It is currently a shape. The line I'm referring to is created dynamically using actionscript.
//----BLACK ROUND RECT BOX----//
var square:Sprite = new Sprite();
addChild(square);
square.graphics.lineStyle(3,0x000000);
square.graphics.drawRoundRect(0,0,425,250,36);
square.graphics.endFill();
square.x = 87;
square.y = 35;
