How to Snap

Hi everyone,
I am newbie here.
Can someone please tell me how to snap such as the attached image?
Please notify me by email when there is a reply.
Thank you

my instructions were valid for the shapes and scenario shown in the image in your original post. Did you try that?  Your last post shows that you are doing something quite different. In this case you can't use the same steps and approach.
Also when using the Free Transform tool you don't release the Ctrl button before releasing the mouse button if you want to retain the free transformation.
For your last case, I would put a box fitting around the ellipse and manipulate them together using the box as a guide for the Free Transform tool. Snapping is not possible in this case but with a few adjustments you can reshape the box and the containing ellipse to fit in the target shape.
Another way is to use Envelope distorted made with a Mesh but while this can give you precise snapping of the corners of the box to the corners of the target shape, the ellipse itself will be reshaped by the length of the handles which takes more manual adjustments and subjective shape decision to make the deformation. For this reason I would use the first method.

  • How to snap guides in illustrator?

    any suggestions?
    thank you.

seems reasonalbe, but im trying to align the guide lines i make 2 of em in the centre of the canvas, then i select them both and in the align pallet i click on horizontal align centre and then vertical align centre,BUT and the guides dont align in the middle of the canvas but  outside on the boundareis on the white canvas.

  • How to snap to grid in Keynote 6?

How do I enable snap to grid in Keynote 6.0?
From the Keynote 09 manual (the most recent manual I could find):
    To turn on master gridlines:
1 Choose Keynote > Preferences, and then click Rulers.
2 Select either or both of the horizontal and vertical Master Gridlines checkboxes.
(...etc) The check boxes mentioned under step 2 are no longer there. How does this work now?
    -Ron.

Thanks, but I see no grid option or equivalent. I see a way to align objects to each other, and to some manually placed guides, but no grid.
In Keynote '09, I had set up the grid at 10 pixel increments. I deliberately did not align objects to each other, because there are so many objects on a slide, some of which may be off-grid. This grid setting seems to have been lost when upgrading from '09 to 6.0, and I must now rely on more accurate eye-hand coordination.

  • How to snap screen of a component

I have an applet to show or edit a drawing which data is from a xml document,
but applet running is so slow.
Now i want to run this applet in server, and snap the screen of the drawing JPanel.
Is this viable ?.. And any suggestion?.

When I add a component on JPanel with FreeDesign layout (I use NetBeans GUI editor to do it), in generated code I find org.jdesktop.layout.GroupLayout with some HorizontalGroup and VerticalGroup components, and no bounds are ever set!!! When I start the application, a component is shown on JPanel, and definitely bounds are not 0,0,0,0! The components are stretched over window, and everything looks just as I set in GUI editor. A problem is that in runtime I need to know bounds of a component that is showed on screen. A method getBounds() returns (0,0,0,0), so I think that it is not appropriate for this layout.
So, my question remains: How to find out bounds of a component in FreeDesign layout!
    Thanks!

  • How to snap to grid lines in Logic Pro 9?

In Garageband there's an option to "snap to grid lines" which means that when you click on the grid it will automatically snap the playhead to one of the lines, so it's always on a perfects beat. Does this option exist in Logic Pro 9? How do I turn it on? Thanks!

Left Click and Hold on the Ruler Bar and then move your pointer left or right and it will snap to the Bar
Or.. even simpler is to use the comma and period keys on your keyboard to move the playhead forwards and backwards by exactly one bar, snapping to the bar.

  • I figured out how to snap a still photo of a movie clip, but where then does it go, and how can I import it into my iPhoto library?

I was working in iMovie and discovered how to take a still photo of a movie clip.  Now I can't find that still photo!  Where did it go, and how can I import it to my iPhoto library?

Just found out and it is simple.  When you find a frame in your video/movie of which you want a still photo or screen shot, just go to the frame and click on command, shift and the #3 in quick succession.  You will hear a "click" like a camera taking a photo.  The screen shot will then go to your desktop where you can drag it to iPhoto or an e-mail, or anywhere you like.  Also you can rename the screen shot by double clicking on the wording under the screen shot on your desk top. Whew!

  • How to snap to layer or document boundary?

    Hi folks,
I recently had to re-install PSE 11 and now the snap-to feature doesn't work.
Let me explain - I can view a grid and snap to that, but without doing this layers used to snap to the edge of the document or another layer automatically. For some reason, this no longer happens. Any suggestions?

Are you dragging up from the Project bin to the work area? If so, try opening in tile view so that both pictures are visible, then drag the layer from right to left.

  • Override snap with control plus drag not working on PianoRoll

I'm new to Logic and found out about a trick called "override snap" in Piano Roll.
Basically I need to have Snap set to "beat", select a midi note and, while holding control, move the length of the end of that note
to get it snap by division, thus overriding the current snap. However, when I do this, it overrides the snap by ticks, which is supposed
to be the result of holding control and shift ( when I hold both, I get the override by ticks too). So I can't use this control plus drag
to get it snap by division when selecting from the end of the note. Surprisingly, I can achieve this by selecting the note from the beginning
and dragging for backwards. This is not convenient and it's not how it's supposed to be. I tried resetting preferences on both Logic and
the logic keyboard shortcuts, resseting NVRAM, deleting preferences on Library, and updating to latest versions isn't helping either.
Can anyone help me get this fixed?
    Macbook Pro 15' Mid 2012 (no retina) - 16 GB RAM - 2.3 intel core i7 - Logic Pro X 10.0.3.

    Hi JorgeP95,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The information below from the Logic Pro X manual, explains how to Snap to a beat or a division using the Piano Roll Editor.
Logic Pro X Help: Snap items to the Piano Roll Editor grid
    http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10/#lgcpa9051d7a
When Show Advanced Tools is selected in the Advanced preferences pane, you can set the Snap value for the Piano Roll grid, independent from the Snap value for the Tracks area grid.
Beat: Edit operations snap to the nearest beat in a bar.
Division: Edit operations snap to the nearest division (this is the time signature shown in the LCD and ruler).

  • Photosmart 8230. How do you Remove the print heads for cleaning?

Hi guys, I have a Photosmart 8230. After a few lines of printing the black ink fades to almost nothing, all the colours are perfect. There are no error messages. I have done the self cleaning and alignment procedures and wasted a lot of expensive ink. The test page comes out with streaks on the black only. It has been suggested that I take the print head out and immerse it in hot water as a last resort. The question is, how do I remove the printhead? or should I use it as a sea anchor!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I just did this to a HP Photosmart 8250 which is in the 8000 series range. I assume they are similar. I was an appliance repair man and have done a lot of other tings in my life, so I decided to take a shot at repairing my 8250 rather than junk it. For 3 Years it was great, only one paper jam, and fast great photos, so I didn't want to give up on it. HP will not repair printers for us, I think because it is too labor intensive, and they can sell a new one for what it would cost.
I actually fixed my HP Photostat 8250. Its working but the color printing is not as good as it was, yet, but I am hoping that will improve as all of the colored inks work their way through the system.
Taking one of these apart and putting it back together is like a Chinese puzzle, so its appropriate that they are made in China. Most of the parts inside can be easily damaged if you are not careful. The covers have very clever ideas to their design and how they snap in place. Take your time with the covers and use small tools.
Getting it back in working condition is another matter. There is a 6 circuit pump and more than a few feet of tubing. I had the side covers off while I tested it and this pump seems to work in both directions. This pump is inside the left side cover. There is another motor with a timing wheel of some kind that stops and starts in both directions at the same time the printhead carriage is whipping back and forth printing. There are other motors also. These things are ingenious. It is surprising that I bought it for less than $100 on sale. It looks like a $1000 piece of equipment inside.
It would probably be a good idea to not remove the left side cover, but if you do, be very careful around the clear timing wheel. it looks delicate. Below is from an email I sent to a friend and I am revising it to make sense. Remember this is something that really requires training to do this, but I see people today that have the guts to tackle all sorts of projects, so for what its worth, and you asked.
Under the right side cover is a motherboard, with a bunch of cables plugged into it, small, larger and even ribbon cables. I found it necessary to remove the motherboard. I had a bit of experience working on Canon printers and I would also suggest you take digital pictures as you go so you can view them on your PC. I am also going through this because I don't like being told we can get anything repaired correctly today, its ridiculous that these printers have become just more throwaways. If you want to do this, as a guide, I must have spent 8 to 10 hours doing this, but now I could do it again in 2, that is the learning process.
Once you get the top off the printer, you will see the printhead carriage. The carriage will be to the right side. The printhead is retained by two screws at the front, (take pictures) a spring clip at the rear and two screws that hold a plastic cover over the six ink hoses that plug into the printhead, its a manifold strip affair. You have to unplug the manifold to remove the printhead, but now I am not 100% sure its necessary to remove the printhead? The ink gunk you will see after you move the printhead to the left is no doubt most of the problem.
Probably after the hot water treatment as described below, the built in printhead cleaner will be able to resume cleaning the printhead, after the hot water cleans the gunk from IT.
I removed the printhead like I say below, but first do this. Under the printhead there is a little carriage with a patch of foam rubber that cleans the print head nozzles. This little device works back and forth while cleaning, but while it is parked, with the printer off, it is forward and you won't be able to move the printhead. Use a flashlight to be sure and you will see how to push the cleaner carriage  to the rear and then move the printhead carriage to the left. THEN, you will see the gunky ink mess that has accumulated. This gunky mess I think is the main problem. There are also some felt pads below the cleaning device to absorb some of the ink gunk. I don't know how the HP techs do this, but I used the hot water method below, I had nothing to lose. I would move the printhead first and then you can decide about removing it. I would make sure not to get any of the electronics wet and why I removed the motherboard and why I say take photos. Its hard enough to remember where the different screws alone go, when you are doing this. It can be done, mine is working, even if not perfectly, YET.  You need to be very careful with your fingers, because it is hard to find space to hold onto the printer and whay it might be a good idea to not remove the left side.
They are so complicated, its just a matter of time before they get gunked up with ink and the printhead begins floating in the mess. I had nothing to lose so I removed the printhead, carefully, taped up all the hoses so they didn't dry out, Then I removed the motherboard to keep it from getting wet, THEN I held the messy ink end under the HOT water in the laundry tub and flushed out enough ink to dye a bathtub full of water. The hot water worked well. Then I let it all dry out. There are some delicate procedures to all of this and it takes time. I think that is why its very hard to find anyone to fix them. Its labor intensive and probably why HP won't repair them.  The print section is the problem, and why I won't buy an All in One printer, Fax, and Scanner. I do buy the extended warranty's now. If you tackle this, take your time, take photos, and good luck. By the way, the 8250 uses O2 print cartridges, is that the type of printer you have, but a lot of this applies to other printers and other brands, and I bet I am not the only one to do this. Before I started this the diagonstics showed no problems, so I assumed it was the the ink aspect of the printer, and not an electronic of mechanical problem. I hope this helps.

  • 3D tracking and snapping object to null?

Okay so my teacher wanted us to use 3d tracking and then put in objects to texts in the video footage. I did the 3D analyzing and then put down my target on the screen. He then said that after the null was used for the tracking marker that I can put an image in it and snap that image to the null by pressing command. I'm on a PC at home. I'm sorry but I despise Mac. Since I don't have a command button and we use CC in school but at home I have CS6 I donno how to snap the picture to the null in CS6. Please help I'm freaking out.

Alt and Option are the matching keys on a PC and a Mac
Ctrl and cmmd are the other matching keys
You can use two techniques for placing a new 3D layer in the same position as a null. Copy the position property of the null and paste to the new layer, or hold down the Cmnd/Ctrl + Shift key and make the null  the parent of the new layer. You can then remove the parent or leave it. If you do not see the parenting column in the timeline right click at the top and go to Columns>Parent.

  • Snap to point

    Hello,
I don't know how to snap objects. Of course I have enabled snap to point and show center options. The thing is that
it seems to work, but it isn't something I would call really snap to point. It doesn't find centers, and f.ex. I cannot snap guidelines
to let's say first point of the stroke. More, the intelligent guidelines only disturb, because they never find the closest object.
I am used to AutoCAD and this behaviour in Illustrator drives me absolutely mad.
is there any way to solve this problem?
    Regards,
    W.A.

Turn on your smart guides(view >> smart guides), snapping will be will be much easier. You can change your snapping tolerance to a larger number, and items will snap from farther away. 4pts is usually pretty good, but if you are working on large scale graphics making that number larger would work better.
