How to solve strange Console messages

Hi,
as the backup takes ages I opened the Console and found (among others) the following messages:
6/10/10 7:31:14 PM com.apple.backupd[885] 2010-06-10 19:31:14.561 diskimages-helper[889:1603] Error loading /Library/Plug-ins/DiskImages/NUMPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NUMPlugin: dlopen(/Library/Plug-ins/DiskImages/NUMPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NUMPlugin, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:

A little background:
Installed TM 2TB in early Spring. Had a System Crash (which I solved by Restoring) about a month ago. After that Backing up ALWAYS takes a looooong time.
Once I had my computer running for a week but the backup is still in the "Preparation" stage. Tried to Restart TM, also checked the Bundle using the Disk Utility. Crashed twice but the third time it ran through and did not report anything. Since One and a half hours I try to backup again.....
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
Simon

There's clearly a problem with that plug-in. "Wrong architecture" indicates it's for a different operating system than the one you're running. I seem to recall a similar problem some months ago with someone running Windoze, but now of course I can't find it.
Are you (or have you ever) run any of Norton's <expletive deleted> stuff? If so, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10400162&#10400162
On the other hand, this thread has the same messages: http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2387964&tstart=165 and was solved by a log out/in.
If none of those helps, I'd suggest a Restart of your Mac, and a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
Verifying your internal HD per #A5 in Troubleshooting might help, too.

You apparently have installed iDocument in the past, and it now seems to now be incompletely uninstalled, leaving behind a "launch agent" or "launch daemon" which is still active.
If you are currently running iDocument and want to keep it, I would re-install it.
If you don't want it, try to find out if the vendor provides an uninstaller for it.
If you don't want it and can't obtain an uninstaller,  then I would look in these three folders:
Home (yourUsername) > Library > LaunchAgents
    HD > Library > LaunchAgents
    HD > Library > LaunchDaemons
    for this file:
    com.icyblaze.iDocumentHelper.plist
If you find that file, trash it and restart.

So, how do I set Blogger to do that? I was Googling for the answer, but nothing. I have "Allow Blog Feed" set to full and Title Links and Enclosure Links enabled.
"Your Feedburner feed link goes to a text page containing the code of a feed - this feed does have the 'itunes:...' tags. However in both feeds you are using Google Drive as a server for the image and media files and the URLs are prefaced with https (encrypted connection) - this may work in the Store but it is inadvisable and your URLs should begin with http."
Yeah, I couldn't think of another way to get you straight to the actual XML file. I guess what you are saying is that Google Drive does not have an appropriate server, which is why it gives https instead of http as a head.

how to solve 1015 error messege

Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.
Pull up itunes on a computer and plug the iPad cord into the USB but the the device, hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button at the same time and count to 8.  then let go the Sleep/Wake button BUT KEEP YOUR FINGER ON THE HOME BUTTON. while holding the home button connect the device to the cable thats plugged into the computer and keep holding the home button
AT NO TIME SHOULD YOU LET GO OF THAT HOME BUTTON until you see the message pop up in itunes saying "iTunes has discovered your iPad in recovery mode" then just go through the screens to restore the device.
if that message doesn't pop up after about 20 seconds, then call apple care, let them know you tried to perform the DFU mode restore (Deivce Firmware Update) and it was a no go. and ask them if you're in warranty to replace it for free.

  • Strange Console Messages from Long Gone Application.

A few years ago, I used to use a broadband dongle on my MacBook.  It rarely worked so I stopped using it.

    Looks like there's still a file left in one of the following;
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchAgents
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /System/Library/StartupItems
~/ refers to your home folder.
Also, check in System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items
If there's an entry there, highlight it and click the minus sign below the window. (you'll probably need to unlock the account to get to login items)

Please can someone help me to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3G or GPRS on safari with an iphone 4GS and latest software updates. I have tried resetting the network and phone settings. I have restored the factory settings on itunes and still the problem persists.

All iPhones sold in Japan are sold carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked by the carrier. If you unlocked it, it was by unauthorized means (hacked), and support cannot be given to you in this forum.
Hacked iPhones are subject to countermeasures by Apple, particularly when updating the firmware. It is likely permanently re-locked or permanently disabled.

Does anyone know what this message is from? Is it something to do with the Dashboard (as the errors preceeding are)?
    My installed non-default Dashbboard widgets:
    BBC Weather
    BitMemo
    Countdown Plus
    Digital World Clock
    EggTimer
    minipatience(0.9.5)
    Notepad
    Picker
    qwickCONVERT
    SimpleTimer
(Not all of these are "running" in the Dashboard...)
    iMac G5
    Mac OS X 10.4.7

    Amber,
Great question. The first thing to do would be to disable the weather widget using the "Widgets" widget to uncheck only the weather one.
Then post back if the messages still are happening.
If so - you might have to enable/disable the widgets to narrow down the culprit (if indeed a widget is making that message). Are you familiar with a binary search? Assuming you know how to make the message appear - it should be the fastest way to find the one widget.

Has anybody out there any idea what it does mean ?
Thanks alot in advance fot thr help.

Most of these messages are probably inconsequential. Things fire up at different speeds when you boot and log in, and sometimes portions of the system are not ready for requests from other portions. The system is good about retrying stuff, but it puts out messages indicating that it had to do things like that. The characteristics of booting on your restored system may be just enough different from your original system that you see different messages.
However, if you have done a full system restore from Time Machine, I have two recommendations for you:
First, Restart the computer and log in (to get things in a fresh state). Then go to Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. Select the line in the column on the left which has the name of your main hard drive (the one you boot from). Then click on Repair Permissions in the panel on the right. You will need to enter your Administrator password.
Be patient. This will take a long time (30 minutes or perhaps longer), and the progress bar will NOT advance to indicate how things are going. You will likely see HUNDREDS of permission repair lines. The vast majority of these are inconsequential -- Disk Utility just tidying things up. For example, you will likely see a file ownership or group correction for every help file in every language for every Lexar printer the computer has in its library. But some of the corrections ARE meaningful. Don't worry that it is doing so much. If there's a problem you NEED to worry about it will tell you that the Permissions Repair failed.
When that finally completes, Quit Disk Utility and Shut Down the computer. Now reset Parameter memory (PRAM). PRAM holds copies of certain system settings for rapid access. We just want to be sure it is in sync with the full system restore you did. To reset PRAM, locate the 4 keys Apple-Option-P-R. Hold down those 4 keys continuously and, while doing so, press and release the power button to reboot. Keep those 4 keys held down until you hear the SECOND startup chime, then release them. Your system will then continue to boot up normally.
You may still see boot up and log in related messages in the console, but these steps may cure any actual operational problems you are having.
EDITED TO ADD: This post should have been made as a response to Rodger instead of to Curt.

  • Strange Console message: GetMenuRefTable not found in header

I noticed many references to "GentMenuRefTable" in console.log. I did search this string in Google, but came up empty. Has anyone else seen this? Is this a problem? I think that only Apple's applications are writing this message, so I'm afraid it could be serious.

Hi, BanzaiMan. Welcome to the Discussions.
I've not seen the GetMenuRefTable message and, like you, I've been unable to find any documentation for it.
    1. It's possible that the cause is related to some errant Startup or Login Item, perhaps some third-party code you've installed. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    2. Check asl.log (available under the /var/log list in the Logs list in Console) to see if there are any corresponding entries containing GetMenuRefTable. If so, the Level value will tell you if this is a problem.
    For example, the system.log message:
    Dec 17 10:24:10 PMG5 lookupd[435]: lookupd (version 369.5) starting - Sun Dec 17 10:24:10 2006
has the following corresponding entry in asl.log:
    [Time 2006.12.17 16:24:10 UTC] [Facility netinfo] [Sender lookupd] [PID 434] [Message lookupd (version 369.5) starting - Sun Dec 17 10:24:10 2006] [Level 5] [UID -2] [GID -2] [Host PMG5]
The time stamps are different as messages recorded in asl.log are posted in GMT (Zulu) time, not local time.
The [Level 5] value indicates it is a Notice type message, i.e. a normal but significant condition, sort of a "strong FYI." Generally, messages with a Level of 5 or more can be ignored. The value of Facility may also provide more info concerning what is generating the message.
Note that messages recorded in console.log may not have a corresponding entry in asl.log, but it's worth a look.
Note that some of the information above is from the "System Logging"" appendix of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!

I tried running pacman -Syyu, but that did not seem to solve the problem.  There is /var/lib/pacman/local/openssl-0.9.8l-1/
directory but it is empty.  When running pacman -S openssl, I get the above error message as well but it spans for hundreds of buffer lines.  In the end I end up with this:
    openssl: /usr/share/man/man3/ssl.3.gz exists in filesystem
    openssl: /usr/share/man/man3/ui.3.gz exists in filesystem

    Anybody have any insight?

Sounds to me like openssl is installed on your system but the info on it is now missing from the local pacman database (/var/lib/pacman/local).  In other words, pacman forgot that you installed it.  So in your second clip of code, pacman is complaining that files belonging to openssl exist in your filesystem, since you do have it installed but it no longer knows that.
Don't know if this is the proper way to fix it, but I imagine forcing a reinstall of openssl (pacman -Sf openssl) should get pacman to reinstall openssl so that it knows it is installed.
    Bregol,
    pacman -Sf openssl
seemed to have fixed it.  Did not know of the force reinstall option.  The necessary directories in /var/lib/pacman/local/openssl have been created.
    Thanks,

  • Strange console message???

    Hi all,
I'm having a few problems with my mac recently - with a Kernel Panic today. Anyway I looked through my console to see if anything sticks out that could have affected the machine and I did notice this - this maybe totally harmless, I don't know, but just because it say 'Bug' it has me thinking there's a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Mike,
I would guess that it isn’t normal, but since no information was provided about the particular API which was used to trigger that message, there’s nothing that we can do to investigate that further. A full kernel panic report will be more informative to all of us who don’t have access to Apple’s source code.

  • Macbook Pro 17-Cannot install Snow Lep. How to solve the error message GUID

When I try to install Snow L., I get the error that my disk did not use the GUID partition table scheme. The install prog says to use the disk utility to change the partition scheme. It further says to select the disk and then the partition tab, and then the volume scheme and then use the option button to change it. Problem is that when I get that far, the option tab is greyed out. There is only one partition. This laptop was factory new January of this year. How do we do this without erasing everything and starting over?
PLEASE email <Edited by Host> if you can tell me (PLEASE) what to do. Lastly, I DO have a TM backup and Fusion is running XP Pro.

Regardless of your current dilemma you need to have a least one complete backup in some form. Disk drives fail - not if, only when.
You should get an external drive with enough capacity to contain a complete backup.
You can make a bootable clone using either:
SuperDuper! which I use. You can find it [here|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html]
or Carbon Copy Cloner which many people also highly recommend which can be found [here|http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html].
SuperDuper! has a free version that will make a bootable clone, and Carbon Copy Cloner is donation ware.
Time Machine is also a good option.
I would start with a bootable clone. All it will cost you is the drive.
With a bootable clone you can boot it and verify that you have a working clone of your system before messing around with the MacBook Pro's internal drive..
I backup everything twice via 2 different methods: Time Machine to a Time Capsule and SuperDuper! to an external drive.
I learned the hard way that all disk drives are subject to failure even backup drives. I was very lucky, the backup device failed immediately after I had restored my wife's data to a new laptop after the laptop's drive failed.
I went to make a new backup of the new laptop and the drive was dead.
Disks are cheap and getting cheaper. If you value your data you need to have backups.
