How to Solve the Pain of Permissions???

Hi,
I asked this question a long time ago when I got my new G5, but never got a satisfactory answer.
Only my wife and myself use our iMac G5, and we both want equal administrator rights, permissions, ownership, whatever you call it. I want to stop having to constantly change permissions etc. every time I want to save something to my wife's side of the computer or even the shared folder (which doesn't let us both save stuff etc.).
Is there a simple way to do this? It would seem to me to be quite basic but I've been trying for a year to sort it out! We don't want to have hundreds of duplicates of music etc., or have to put everything into 'shared'. Even when I do put stuff in shared, it still only lets the original owner change it.. which means entering passwords etc. and some apps won't even let you enter a pass and won't allow you to save changes.

You can either share one account, or use these instructions to change the UID on one account so that both accounts have the same UID; either option will allow each of you full access to the other's files and folders as long as that account isn't protected by FileVault. If you choose to change the UID, back up everything from both accounts before proceeding.
The Ignore Permissions option is only available for disks other than the startup disk; unless both home folders have been moved to another disk or partition, you won't be able to use this option. Having FileVault enabled encrypts the home folder and prevents other accounts from accessing it without knowing the password set for it.
