How to sort Notes in Mountain Lion?

In my mail notes, the topics were sorted alphabetically. In M-L notes they are sorted by date entered.
How to sort the by alphabet?

Peter,
No worries.  I'm glad if I could help.
The sort feature was new with the 10.8.2 update.
Not much fanfare was made about it, so it was easy to overlook.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo, it can only be upgraded to 10.6.8; Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are available in the online Apple Store.
If it's a Core 2 Duo, follow the instructions for the Core Duo, phone the online Apple Store, and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

That has never been a feature of Mac OS X, but I believe there was some kind of third-party software that could add that capability.  i don't recall what its name is, but you must have had that installed, and it either isn't installed anymore (perhaps removed as incompatible?) or is not working properly in Mountain Lion.

How do i download mountain lion.  I have tried several times without success

If you are actually running 10.4. 11, you cannot download Mountain Lion. You must be running at least 10.6.8 to download Mountain Lion (or anything after 10.6.8).
If you have one of the original Mac Pros, you will not be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Lion is as far as you can go.
Go to About This Mac, More Info button. Look under Hardware for Mac Identifier. You need a macpro3,1 or later.
Not that it really makes any difference, but you've posted this on the Mavericks forum, not the Mountain Lion forum.

  • How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

I can only guess that the install process was interrupted, maybe after the files were extracted but before the install, maybe on the reboot?
If it was dome ot would say version 10.8.  And you would have the reminder and notes apps as well, also an easy thing to check.

  • How do I download purchased Mountain Lion OSX on my second Mac laptop?

How do I download purchased Mountain Lion OSX on my second Mac laptop?  The initial download was no problem on my MacBook Pro, but my MacBook already has Lion with only a little more than 2 GB of Memory left. This may be my compatibility problem.  Ideas?

I think you'll need to find a way to delete or move files to an external drive to free up some space. Generally, you want at least 10% free space on the HD for best performance. In your case, you probably will not get ML to install. Assuming you are talking about 2 GB of hard drive and nor 2 GB of RAM.

  • How do I re-install mountain lion if my macbook air is in this state?

I just now had the bright idea of restoring my mac and wiping it clean. I'm currently in the start-up process and I can't re-install mountain lion because I never bought it. I bought this macbook air from an aquaintence last year. How do I upgrade to mountain lion if my mac is like this?  Is this issue really as simple as upgrading?

The software on the macbook was the most recent.  It had already been upgraded to mountain lion by the previous owner.
Does the original owner or yourself have a Snow Leopard istall disc? I'm guessing no.
Unfortunately it looks like my situation has worsened. I'll click re-install mountain lion then continue and a message saying "to download and restore os x, your computer's eligibility will be verified with apple." I'll click continue and another message will appear saying something like "could not install to drive please contact applecare."  I am no longer being asked to enter my apple id or password.  I fear this is a "you have tried x amount of times so you are now locked out" situation.  Thanks to both of you for responding so soon!
That I'm not sure of. If it were me I'd still buy a copy of SL as it's cheap and partition the hard drive so I have two OS on the same disc, (make the SL partiton about 25GB). You can use one to trouble shoot the other sometimes. It also means you can boot from DVD which I like.

  • I have a Power Book SW version 10.5.8. How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    Hello,
I have a Power Book SW version 10.5.8. How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion?  I need to be able to download some graphics apps from the Mac store and I do not have that capability with 10.5.8.
I am American but live in Italy so have missed an update or two.  When I went to the Mac store in the States this summer they told me if I could work well with this outdated version, to leave as is as I had missed two updates. Now I need to I need to be able to download some graphics apps from the Mac store and I do not have that capability with 10.5.8.  I need at least 6.6.0 it says.

Make sure your machine supports Snow Leopard requirements. The same with Mountain Lion if you want to move even further up the animal kingdom.

  • Keyword search in Apple Notes on Mountain Lion?

Hi friends. I hope someone can enlighten me and help put some faith back into Apple's software development.
Does anyone know how to do a keyword search in Apple Notes on Mountain Lion?? I know that sounds completely stupid but let me explain...
In the top left corner there is a search field. When I enter a keyword it searches all the notes, and in the left hand pain it filters the notes that have the keyword in them. It doesn't actually show me *where" the keyword appears, it only shows the notes that *contain* them. It's just a filter, not a search. Try it for yourself.
It would be like doing a keyword search in a PDF, and it only tell you which pages it appears on, rather than where on the page. It is completely useless.
I fail to believe the program would be this limited. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Please no suggestions to go find another note program. I need notes for particular reasons.

This behavior makes complete sense to me.  If I designed it, I would do it exactly the same way.
Here's why:  Notes are not expected to be treatises.  They are expected to be reasonably short.  You should easily be able to find the search target in your relatively brief note.
Nonetheless, if you fee like you'd like to ask Apple for this feature, here's how to supply feedback to Apple:

  • I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion.

I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion. How do I upgrade to Leopard or snow leopard?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • HT4673 how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
Theres a couple ways to uninstall programs. The launchpad is the rocket icon on the dock. If you open that you should see your apps spread out as icons as if it would be on a iphone or other iOS device. If you just click the icon with your mouse button and continue holding the mouse button the will shake and show the X. If you click that X it will ask if you want to delete the program. This only works for programs downloaded through the APP Store. If a program does not have an X then proceed to the next way of uninstalling
-- The way to delete a program that will not delete the previous way is as followed:
    Open finder
    - On the left side you will see applications > Click that
    - Then you will see all the programs on the right side.
    - If you click on the program and drag it to your trash bin it will ask if you would like to make changes and delete.
    - Just make sure not to delete anything that was preinstalled with you Mac
