How to spell aspect ratio

Hi.
A very weird thing that one rather frequently sees in this forum is the word "ratio" spelled r-a-t-i-o-n. It's weird but true.
I guess that means: don't forget to try that errant spelling when searching the forum for advice.
Dual G5/2.5GHz/4.5 GB, internal ATA, G-SATA 500   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Final Cut Studio 5.0.4

I do it too, perhaps it's my obsession with food. Almost every time I type "ratio" it's "ration". Fascinating. I don't think I've had a reason to write "ration" in a long time.

  • How to set aspect ratio options for Image Dialog

I have a requiment to create a new Aspect Ratio for image crop, besides the only default option of Free Crop
I understand that there was some path where you could set this up in CRX, prior to 5.5, but that path doesn't exist in 5.5. The path was /libs/cq/packaging/components/pack/definition/dialog/items/tabs/item s/tab3/cropConfig
I found this out from this forum question:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575600#4575600
Where in CQ5.5 Can I set these aspect ratios? I've queried the entire CRX for nodes of similar names as in this path, but cannot find it anywhere.
    Thanks guys!

    Hi,
I have the same problem using CQ 5.6.1. I want to extend the default Ratios:
I found out that this config is located under /libs/dam/gui/content/assets/crop/items/actionbarcontainer/items/default/items/aspectrati o/items.
My question is were and how can I put an extension to these predefined ratios if I don't want to edit them under the libs node.
    Thanks, Andreas

  • How to maintain aspect ratio?

I want export a video in 2.35.1, but want to maintain aspect ratio(and get rid of the black bars).
How can I do that in Compressor?
I can only figure out how to compress it. But can’t find any options for maintaining aspect ratio.
I know this can be done with QuickTime 7, but I don't have it.
    Currently using Compressor 4

As mishmumken said, custom frame sizes can be
    Specified in Compressor Geometry.
But I'm concerned that you may not have preserved the aspect ratio
When you exported from your editor
Here is a great tutorial that describes how to do that from FCPX.

  • How to determine aspect ratio?

How do you determine the aspect ratio, in LR, of an existing image? I know how to change it, but don't see a way to determine it.

    Hi Photo31,
You can easily calculate the aspect ratio of any frame size with a calculator - it's just basic maths.
However, there's no need to calculate an aspect ratio in Lightroom. Just use the 'Enter Custom' function for the aspect ratio in the Crop tool, and enter your picture size (for example, 20x16). Lightroom will then display a crop that is locked to this aspect ratio. You can then resize it as much as you require, and LR will still keep it at your desired aspect ratio (as long as you don't check the 'locked' icon).
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • How to keep aspect ratio for different sized resolutions?

If I have a 1280 x 800 resolution widescreen moniter, and I have this fullscreen game that likes to run in 800 x 600 but I don't like the way that the game stretches across the whole widescreen moniter. The only way for me to keep everything in a good aspect ratio is to put my resolution at 1280 x 800 but the game doesn't like that.
Would there be a way to set it so that the 800 x 600 resolution is set to have the correct aspect ratio rather than being stretched across the widescreen?  ie, so it looks like a square with black spots on both sides.
I heard that a modeline generator would be the thing I want, but I'm not sure how I should go about this stuff. If you have any reading on it, please give it to me.

Thank you very much. I never thought to look in the BIOS.
There wasn't an option to keep aspect ratio and stretch but I was able to center it rather than stretching.
Now my framebuffer boot up got centered, I need to find out how to make the framebuffer bootup be 1280x800 rather than 1024x768. This should be simple, but the guide in the sample menu.lst only gives square-y resolutions.

  • How to preserve aspect ratio with a responsive layout?

    Hi,
I have an image that I need to place in the centre of my stage.
The image is that of a ball and has 400px by 400px size.
I want my animations to be responsive so that the image will scale but still maintain the correct aspect ratio.
Currently if I set pixels to % on width and height, the image stretches.
How do you do this in EA?

    Hi Jahandaniel,
I have tested responsive layout and it worked perfectly. Please check the following adobe tv article and let me know your result.

  • How to convert aspect ratio?

I recently purchased the Canon HV30, which shoots high definition video in the 16x9 ratio. I would like to be able to edit this footage along with previously-shot standard definition video, which is in the 4x3 ratio. Is it possible to convert the HD footage into a 4x3 ratio?

Are you willing to crop off the left and rights sides of the HD material? If you are then you can edit the HD material into a 4:3 sequence. It will scale down to fit the screen showing black at top and bottom. Scale up the HD material to fill the frame, losing the letterboxing. That will leave the image with the sides cut off in a 4:3 SD sequence.

  • How to change aspect ratio AFTER creating a project

I created a project in FCPX and somehow it's got Black bars on the left and right (i think i created a 16:9 project and put 4:3 clips in). I can't enlarge the clips as they contain text that would be cropped out, so i need to turn my 16:9 project into a 4:3 project. Is this possible?
    Regards
    Mike

Close your project if it's open by going back to the Project Library view (where you see all your projects). Select the project, open the inspector (command-4) if it isn't already open. At the bottom right of the inspector, click the wrench icon. Change your projects properties and click OK.

  • Aspect ratio changes?

I have edited a short film shot entirely in 16:9 on a 4:3 timeline (unaware I was doing so). So when I export my "widescreen" film, it is a 4:3 video with black bars on the top and bottom. So what I thought was if I create a new project, use "DV-NTSC Anamorphic" with the Easy Setup option, and create a new sequence, my entire film will no longer have black bars at the top and bottom. It will just be a 16:9 video. Well, I was wrong. In the new setup, every single clip is "squished", and it looks like if I wanted to fix it, I'd have to go through every single clip, re-import it, and have an adjusted aspect ratio... and I don't want to do that. Is there an easier way?

How is the Aspect Ratio changing?
Was the shooting Mode changed on the camera, between scenes, say from Standard to Widescreen? That would be a change in PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), but would show up the difference in the Project.
Also, are you in PAL-land, or NTSC-land?
    Good luck,
    Hunt
Hi Hunt, no the shooting mode was the same - wide screen, dv cam pal

  • Preserve aspect ratio for Windows Vista 64-bit OS on iMac

Hello, I wanted to know how to preserve aspect ratio on my screen resolution of 4:3 with black borders on left and right of the screen, after I have installed 64 bit Boot Camp drivers on it. I rather to play older Windows games in 4:3 without stretched mode as stretched mode looks so disordered, which is bothered me a lot.

It sounds that the Microsoft Installer does not like the optical drive inside of your Mac.
Do you have access to an external DVD drive?
If yes, try the Windows 7 install with an external DVD drive.
If no, try to install Windows 7 from a USB drive.

  • Crop tool Aspect Ratios

I have question regarding the Aspect Ratios of the crop overlay tool. Lr comes with a number of crop aspect ratios - for example 5x7, 16x9 and 16X10; where 5 and 16 apply to the width, and 7, 9 and 10 apply to the height. There does not seem to be a way of creating customer aspect ratios like 7x5, 9x16 or 10x16. If i try creating 9x16 Lr, says it 16x9 and does nothing.
Is this by design? Am I missing something?

    Just one more question about this: why do 4x3, 16x9 and 16x10, default to 1024 x 768 pixels, 1920 x 1080 pixels and 1280 x 800 pixels? I have enough pixels to do a 16x9 crop with 6016x3384 pixels.
I am skeptical of this statement. When you select 4x3, this means a 4x3 aspect ratio, and not a specific number of pixels
Fully agree with you but this how my crop aspect ratios look like; I can assure you that if select 16x9 it automatically defaults to 1920 to 1080 pixels. I am assuming that the custom ratios are below "Enter Custom ...".

  • How to fix an error in sequnece setting (aspect ratio)?

    Hi,
I have been working for a while on a project in CS4. I have created a sequence in it with an aspect ratio (AR) of 4:3 - worked for hours on it - but I should had the sequence created instead in 16:9. I realised it a bit too late...
So how do I fix it?
Apparently amending the sequence setting for AR cannot be done - please let me know if there is any way of doing this.
Someone suggested editing the PRPROJ file of the project - but when I opened it I was unable to detect under the sequence name (I found a few entries with it) where I can easily change the sequence to 16:9.
So then I found people suggesting I copy/paste all the assets from the sequence into a new one that is correctly configured with 16:9. When I did this - CTRL+A and Copy, then paste into a new sequence in the same project - it copied all the clips and I think also all the transitions. But the key element that it did not copy over were all the changes I have done to the sound - I have been editing via the sound mixer (in Write mode) the sound, and then also made changes to the master track volume levels. These were not copied over.
I really don't want to have to do the mixing all over again. If someone can explain how I can fix the problem in any way I would be most thankful.
While I am here asking - another 2 small questions that have been bugging me:
How I can copy and paste volume keyframes from either the master track or a clip and apply it on another clip/section of the clip that would be very helpful. This would for example be useful if I am able to find a certain volume level that I would like to apply to the desired section without the need to sit and "record" (using the Write function) those settings on the desired area. If there is any means to apply the properties on audio track this way - that would be really useful and time saving.
A best practice hint: when you try and create a sound level for a project - what PC volume level setting do you set in your PC that you use as a benchmark by which we then work out the sound level that would be created in the project? Obviously if I push my PC volume al the way up I would probably mix my sound in the project too low. And if I set the PC volume too low - than I would probably be setting the overall sound level too high and get distortion. As the movies I created would be burnt onto a DVD - what is the volume level on the PC (if there is any means of establishing a standard volume) that I need to match first before I go and figure out what level of sound the finished DVD would have? Of course I can work on say a 50% and then apply gains and volume increases based on that 50% of the max sound my PC plays out. But that sounds pretty much like a random setting and not optimised for other devices.
    My system:
    Windows 7, 32-bit
    CS4, v. 4.2.1
This looks like a fairly basic question but I am unable to find a good answer to it...
Many thanks to the person who shows me how this can be done without me going crazy over the need to start all over again...
    Eroka00

    Hi Ann,
Your tip saved me a lot of time indeed....!
So I created a new sequence, made sure it was 16:9, copy pasted all of the assets, but then had to do the following:
    1. Copy/Paste Attributes for all the video clips (these do not transfer);
    2. As you suggested used the whole of the old sequence as a nested sequence in the new one, eliminating the video altogether.
I still had a nagging issue that the project would not render or export well - but that turned out to be an issue with rendeiring large files (the video was an uncut clip of almost 10GB, andother of 6GB). Splicing these into 10 minute segments and rendering them separately did the trick.
It's ben amlong Xmas weekend and endless hours spendt on this project. Yaikes!
    Thanks for the workaround idea!

  • How can i export a series of images in different aspect ratios to the same height

How can i export a series of images in different aspect ratios to the same height?
I wish to make a slider callery for my website. all the images need to be 750 Pixels high, the width does not matter.  I have a mixture of square pandscap and protraite images can i do thing as one export or do i have to do it twice?  Once for long edge and once for shot edge?
    Thanks

Yes, you can but there is a trick to it.
In the Export Dialog under <Image Sizing> select Widdth & Height.
Then enter 750 pixels for Height.
Put your cursor into the Width field behind all the numbers that appear there and with the backspace key delete the numbers. If you enter "0" it will not accept that. But it accepts when you just delete the field for Width with the backspace key. The Width field will now be just blank.
When you then export all image will  have a height of 750 pixels and the width will fall variously according to thne height / width ratio.
Or alternatively you can enter 7.5" for height at a resolution of 100 ppi.
