How to split a 25GB dv file?

I tried to find any discussion related to this, but did not find any...
I'm importing VHS and Hi8 cassettes through iMovie. Each two hours cassette produces a single 25gb or so file.
I'd like to be able to save my original dv files to dvd, but obviously they are too large.
Is there a way to split those files?

I concur with Kirk above. If you are planning on saving them to DVD as .dv files, then you must only be intending on using the DVDs for storage, as they will not be playable in a standalone DVD player. External hard drives are cheap these days and a much more elegant solution to your storage problem.
If you want to be able to view the DVDs, you will need to use iDVD or Toast to encode the video in DVD format.
However, despite my misgivings about storing the .dv files on DVDs, if you still want to go ahead with that plan, here's what you'll need to do. Use MPEG-Streamclip to open up the DV file. DV streams are roughly 30Mbps and standard DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs hold 4.7GB of data. Thus, you will need to break up your DV clips into roughly 20 minute segments. You can do this by setting the "In" and "Out" points in your video in MPEG-Streamclip and using the "Save as DV" option to save each segment.
This will result in roughly 6 clips per VHS/Hi8 cassette and thus 6 DVDs per cassette! Perhaps now you see why both Kirk and I recommend the external hard drive route?

I have an idea to do the streaming (not really streamming ) via HTTP.
My idea is: Split the large H.264 file into small pieces.
The client can download the small files then play back in order. (MyVideo1, MyVideo2.dat.....MyVideoM.dat)
The client first will download the metadata in XML format.
The client is able to play/jumb to the middle stream, the client will start download from MyVideoM.dat...(1<=M<=N)
My question is: How can i split my large Video file in H.264 codec in to smaller pieces (MyVideoN.dat) that flash player can play.
Which is the minimum metada that i have to put into my small file so that FlashPlayer can understand my video files?
Am i able to simply split the video file at serverside, then Client will inject the metadata into the downloaded small DAT files using Flash??

Hi is possible to split up a video file into different parts using the netstream classes? I see youtube do this with large video files, for example, for video named goodvideo, it would stream goodvideo part1,goodvideo part2, goodvideo part3,etc but I'm not sure how to split the video file up. Any ideas would be great.

Well I'm not exactly sure how YouTube is doing it....
Are there actually separate videos? meaning separate files? different url?
or are you "seeking" to some stop further down the progress bar, sort of like a chapter 2, 3, etc.?

But then you would need a streaming server to be able to "seek" ahead of the download progress bar... seeking further into the file than has already been downloaded.
You could use a true streaming server like the Adobe Media Server, or set up pseudo streaming:

What is the most straightforward way to split .aiff and mp3 files, without losing quality, using aural and visual (waveform) cues and then save the split-up files? The idea is to split a long file with multiple tracks into individual songs.

I couldn't try GarageBand because some or the other of its libraries was missing or damaged. I have Roxio's Toast and looked into the apps but they -- like AudioX -- are a slick GUI and bells & whistles fronting minimal functionality. Audacity, however, is exactly the reverse: a bare-bones GUI fronting a 100 horsepower app with relatively vast breadth and depth of functionality. Highly recommended.

I need to upload an :AZT file and then SPLIT the data of .AZT fiel at ";" into various fields into an internal table "itab" and then I need to save/update these data of internal table "itab" to database table "ZLT_AZT" . But I am facing some problems in the output. So please follow the following to understand my problem and please suggest me as how to SPLIT the data correctly at each ";".

Hi Ali,
If the PDF file you're starting with is larger than 100MB, ExportPDF won't be able to convert it.
To convert a file of that size and to create separate files, you'll need Adobe Acrobat. You'd need Acrobat to divide the file into smaller chunks for ExportPDF anyhow, so Acrobat is probably the best solution for you. You can learn more about Acrobat here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html

Your 11MB file is well within the file-size limits for ExportPDF, but depending on the number of pages, complexity of the file (and yours doesn't sound complex), and your connection speed, it is possible that the service is simply timing out before it can finish processing. These steps can help:
If the file already contains editable text (that is, it isn't a scanned document), try disabling OCR as outlined in this this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Clear the browser cache and try again.
Try a different browser.
Let's start there. If you still can't export the file to Word, let me know and we'll take it from there.

How to split Large mp4 and AVI video files to smaller scenes

Hi All
I’ve been looking into how to cut-up large files ready for import into CS4. So far all I can find are the usual suspects that only lets you cut a section from a file. Dose anyone use any software that enables you to split a large video file (MP4, AVI and so on) into say 20 sections all in one hit?
I do a lot of HD onboard cams, so the video is set to fire and only shut off when the run has finished. I then end up with about 60 percent of the file (in diferent parts) I need to trash.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated indeed!

I prefer to use gSplit which is gnu coreutils.
You can install gnu coreutils using homebrew.
