How To Split Movies for VCD Burning

Hello:
I have been trying to figure out how to split movies using QT 7 Pro for a while now, and can't seem to get it. The QT Helpviewer says I can paste the cut portion elsewhere, but it doesn't work. Can someone please help me with this?
Thanks!

QuickTime Pro: How to Edit Portions of a Movie
This document discusses how to edit portions of a QuickTime movie using QuickTime Pro.
If you have QuickTime Pro, you can use QuickTime Player for basic movie editing. Use the In and Out selection
markers in QuickTime Player to select a portion of the movie (Figure 1). The darkened area between the two
markers indicates the selected portion. To fine-tune your selection, click either the In or Out marker to select it,
then use the arrow keys to move the marker.
Copy, cut, or delete the selected section (as you would with text in a word processor). When you paste in a
selection, the new section is added at the position of the playback head.
To determine the length of the selection:
1. From the Movie menu, choose Get Movie Properties.
2. From the right pop-up menu, choose Time.
To play just the selection:
1. From the Movie menu, choose Play Selection Only.
2. Click Play.
Figure 1 In and Out selection markers
To split a single movie into multiple movies:
1. Use the In and Out markers to select part of the movie.
2. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
3. From the File menu, choose New Player.
4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
5. From the File menu, choose Save.
6. Type a name and make sure the option to "Make movie self-contained" is selected.
Repeat the above steps for each movie or clip you want to extract.

  • Can Someone please tell me how to save movie for email & web?

Can Someone please tell me how to save movie for email & web? I have created a few small videos, (last one was only 3 minutes), and I have tried to save them many different ways, but when I try to send them via email, it takes forever to send and for others to open.
People send me video links all the time, and they never take that long. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

People send me video links all the time, and they never take that long...
Karl is (aside many other things) expert on how-tos and codecs, but one more thing...:
    video link:
you have two options for sharing video with the world: you can send the whole file to someone - as an xx MB attachement to a mail...; or, you load up the video to some website (.mac, youtube, whatever...) and send just the link x kB to that site...
    asymmetric:
normal "internet accounts" are asymmetrically (A-DSL)... means: you have FAST downloads, but SLOW uploads.... (my socalled 2k-DSL connections offers downloads 20x faster then my uploads, just to give you an impression...)
so, uploading my videos to my website needs easy >30min for a letssay highly compressed 2min project.... the link to it is just >1kB; the download/watching of the movie is almost instant on/realtime....
now, back to Karl, concerning choosing the right codec/compressor... Karl?
i DO love these phrases in news-shows...

  • How to transcode movies for 8300?

I'm using CloneDVD mobile to transcode my movies to watch on my 8310.  I was able to transcode movies to a "simple MP4" format that played very nicely on a 8800 (MS Zune setting), but the same format doesn't work on my 8310 media player.  I've also tried a format supposedly optimized for the 8800, but this wouldn't play on either the 8800 or my 8310.  Have they downgraded the media player between 8800 and the 8300?
Any thoughts/suggestions?  Anyone had any luck transcoding a movie into a format that worked?
    Thanks for any help!

  • How to export movie for web?

I am trying to upload a movie I made on iMovie to my website, but the .m4v does not work on anything but my mac. Is there some way I can convert the .m4v to an .mpeg?
    TIA,

There are many ways but it would help to know what flavor of .MPEG file you are targeting. Normally I would assume you are referring to an MPEG-2 video with MPEG-1, layer 2 (MP2) audio. The easiest to use application would probably be Visual Hub if you can find a copy. (Support dropped and possibly will return as an open source project called "FilmRedux.") iVCD, MPEG2 Works, and FFmpegX would be alternative dedicated converters. If you have iDVD or Toast, these burning application can also produce other flavors (MPEG2/AIFF or MPEG2/AC3 multiplexed files) which can be then be modified by MPEG Streamclip to an MPEG2/MP2 file secondarily.
NOTE: The same four dedicated applications mentioned, as well as, Toast can also be used to create multiplexed MPEG-1 (.MPG) files if that was really what you really wanted.

  • Imovie 560 minutes to convert movie for dvd burning.

I spent most of the day preparing a video and slide show project that was then going to be burned to DVD. After all the importing was finished and clips segmented I added transitions and had it looking real good. I then thought I could just burn to the DVD. To my surprise it is taking the Imac 20 560 minutes to prepare the video for burning in IDVD. The question is-- does it take this long or did I do something wrong. I needed the video in a hurry and was really surprised by the time it's taking.
    Thanks "Art"

The question is-- does it take this long or did I do something wrong.
This is probably perfectly normal. The time required depends on the power of your CPU, the display size of the file you are exporting, the compression format you are using, the duration of your project, and whether or not a file of the same dimension has been previously shared and a copy available in the Media Browser.
Basically, exporting a files larger than "Medium" for burning can be a waste of time since VGA content will be scaled up only to be re-saled back down to VGA when converted to M2V by iDVD. While you may see a slight improvement in quality where the original content has dimensions greater than VGA, only you can determine whether or not the increase in quality is worth the difference in processing time. In addition, the default H.264 compression format is very CPU intensive where as if you export to a less complex format (e.g., MPEG4/AAC) the processing can proceed much faster. Having a long project, of course, takes longer to export. Lastly, if you use the same dimension for several different uses, the time can be saved since after the initial export (assuming you do not modify the project), iMovie '08 will simply "apply" the already exported "Media Browser" copy of the project to whatever additional uses you direct.

  • How do split line for checkboxes in checkboxlist?

    Hi there -
Does anyone know how to format the output of the checkboxlist so that instead of one long list of names, you can have the list render on a few different lines for a better format/display?
    Thanks
    Tom

Thanks so much for the advice!
I'm looking for something slightly different,
however, and I apologize for not being more clear
    before.
If I have 9 items I want to display using the
checkboxlist component, is it possible to format the
display so there are 3 rows of 3 items each? Using
the layout property of the component only lets me
show one long list either horizontally or
vertically....As you have discovered, the standard JSF renderer for this component does not support a "columns" property that would enable this kind of thing. I think that would make a dandy improvement in a future version of JSF -- to encourage this, you should provide feedback to the JSF specification team (send mail to "[email protected]").

    Any ideas?

  • How to Download movies for travel

I'm getting ready to be on the road, out of country for a month.  What is the best way to download movies on my 64GB iPad, so I can play them during the 26 hour plane ride and long train rides where I won't have internet?
Thanks for all your kind suggestions....

The rentals are a little hairy because of the iTunes time constraints.  You need to start each movie and watch for two seconds while you have Internet access so that iTunes can start the 24-hour timer.  Then, you can watch the remainder at your leisure (with the Internet) but you have 24 hours to finish them.
Purchased or imported movies are easier - if they fit, you're good.

  • How to make movie in iDVD without themes.  iDVD app quitting during burning

I am trying to make movie without themes and still having problems. I have tried using the map view in themes, dragging movie into the first box on left, looping it - but am seeing a yellow error sign in the theme box. Don't know why this is. Have tried to burn movie anyway but iDVD app quits halfway thru. Today I tried just simply going to iDVD >file>onestep DVD from movie>select movie and inserting disc. This seems to be the simple solution I have been looking for to burn a movie without themes but iDVD still quit on me halfway thru burning just now. Is this a space problem? Disc problem? help...

OK F Shippey - Using this computer for anything other than email is pretty new to me. I have just recently began using imovie and idvd. I have burned one idvd and working on a second. While making the movie I was constantly having to delete old footage to make room for space. In other words I don't know much about space and usage. I know that in my new imovie project it says that i have 7.53 Gb available. I know i have a Lacie external with one DVD on it. So what do i need to know about space on a hard drive while using imovie? How do you monitor how much hard drive space you have while working on projects like this? Do I find this info in About This Mac? Sorry for so many dumb questions. Clearly I don't know what I am doing. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks much, that's very helpful for step one (getting old phone onto new phone).  Very clear.

These are elementary streams and they would be used by DVD authoring apps that use them for reasons like foreign language capability. Examples would be DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Encore, Toast.
The most straightforward way to burn your DVD is either to use the Share feature in FCP or the Batch Template feature in Compressor.
If you can find a boxed copy of iLife (try Amazon), it should have iDVD as part of the suite of apps. iDVD offers far more complete authoring capability than FCP or C4. iDVD  doesn't work with elementary streams; you'd just drag in your HD movie and you'd be good to go.
    Good lluck.

  • How to split a "project" (movie) into two separate projects.

After converting two Hi-eight tapes into digital format for use with iMovie 10.0.3 (?), I created a movie called "Japan 1994" , complete with titles, imported still photos, etc. But it was over 2 hours long. (My wife considers any movie longer than 29 minutes 59 seconds as cruel and unusual punishment under the U.S. constitution). So I went to Imovie "Help" .....Hah!!!, surfed the web with my problem, with further frustration. So, I devised my own method:
      1. Created two new (empty) movies, "Nihon 1" and "Nihon 2" (Nihon=Japan, in Japanese)
    2. In  "Japan 1994", found a convenient break point rougly half way through, shift selected several clips up to the half way point.
    3. copied all of these at one time (command C)
    4. Opened "Nihon 1" and pasted (command V) these clips into this project.
    5. Repeated steps 2, 3, 4 for the second "half" (into "Nihon 2")
All of this produced two separate projects of around 1 hour each. Added appropriate titles at the beggining and end of each of the new movies.
    Worked like a charm.
Hope this helps other users of iMoive 10. (whatever).

I have a sandwich. I have been searching how to split the sandwich but it seems you don't split a sandwich. Someone said look in a draw for a tool or something!
    Wow.
There are lots of ways to do what you're asking besides what has been said. You can double click the clip in the Browser. Set In & Out points in the viewer and add the Clip to the sequence. No need to split or cut anything in the sequence.
You really need to learn a bit more before you continue cause this is a pre-noob question. I don't really know how to categorise it.
