How to SQL Server icons in start menu (Win Server 2012 R2)

Hi Folk's,
I have an installation of SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on Windows Server 2012 R2. The installation was successful with the exception I have no SQL icons in the start menu - so I can't run the SQL Server Management Studio without going and looking
for the executable.
Does anyone know how I can re-generate the icons. I have tried doing a repair but this did not work.

I deleted the virtual machine and did a clean install and got the same issue. SQL Server 2012 SP1 Developer Edition does not install the icons in the start menu on Windows 2012 R2 (it works fine on Windows Server 2012).
In the Search menu if I type in SQL it just comes up with the SQL Server Installation center.
I have checked via the installer and via the discovery report mentioned above and all features are recorded as being installed.
However, I note that the Management Studio executable is missing (and likely so are some of the others).

According to your description, we need to verify if you have install SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition successfully, you can check the setup log in the following folder.
-- C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt.
--C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log\<YYYYMMDD_HHMM>\Detail.txt
If installing well, but the icons does not show in the start menu, I recommend you can create the lnk from the following installing location.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe

SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration

I am trying to configure Technical Systems in SLD (for deploying a webdynpro application which has models). Logged in as Administrator. I see this message when I login from the portal (https://host:port/sld):
"SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration." And all the links are greyed out.
When I log in to the Visual Admin, services->Sld->and tested the connection (with same ID as Administrator), I see "connection test failed CIMClientObject"
What ID, password should I be using for testing the connection for SLD in visual Admin. Or is this related to ID password at all.

I still have the same problem.
When I select the SLD Data Supplier under services in Visual Admin, I see an error on the task bar at the bottom: SLD_Collector_Task
When I open this item, I see the following error message:
"2008.12.10@10:51:20: HTTP call failed: Failed to send HTTP data: 503 : Service Unavailable. Please check if the target SLD system is available and the SLD bridge is started there"
Is this something related to SLD configuration.

I also had this error: "Setup cannot continue. Your computer will now restart, and your previous version of Windows will be restored."
trying to do a in-place upgrade of a Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2.
The problem was the separated System Reserved Partition. After I removed using this instructions:

The upgrade ran ok, and now have my DC as Windows 2012 R2.

Mail Icon from STart menu has wrong user info

we set up the new 400 pavilion slimline pc, and see an incorrect user name in the start menu. first question is how to change that. next, when we click on the Mail icon, a different user name appears (what appears is username and password request info that was sent from my work pc to this home pc as a means of testing and practise for the homeowner to access mail) it's like the home pc took over my work username info and installed it in the Mail icon set up!
in sum, how can we change what first appears as an incorrect user name, and set up the correct user name on the Mail icon prompt. the home owner can access and get mail, so that works fine but we added the comcast account link into 'favorites' folder as a means to connect into her mail. we naturally want to make this easier by just selecting the Mail icon off the Start menu. thanks! tc17

I have checked the screen shot and it seems that you use the Windows XP Start menu and not the Classic Start menu.
Please click right on the green Start button and select Properties.
Then the window Taskbar and Start Menu Properties should appear.
Then switch to the tab Start menu and press the Customize button.
There you could try to clean the list of the programs
Please also check the Advanced tab and the Start menu items list.

The icons are contained within the executales. To create an icon for Forms, just select to create a shortcut for the Forms ifbld90.exe file and this will have the Forms icon. There is a folder in the Explorer that contains all program icons that are accessible from the start menu. Just drag and drop your short cut into it.
I would suggest to rerun the installer if not already done.

This is Windows you're asking about, right? Typically you just configure your installer to do those things. If you're doing your own install, then you use whatever Windows APIs exist to do them. Although adding something to the start menu is just a matter of creating a shortcut file in a particular directory.
At any rate the question is nothing to do with Java. It's a question about Windows. So you should really look for a Windows forum or help site.

No FP icon on start menu

changing the shortcut location for an Office 2013 application:
When you try to change the shortcut locations for Office 2013 applications in the Office Customization Tool (OCT), you receive the following error message:
Invalid start in folder. Please try again.
Then, you add the Start in location for Office 2013 and run a customized installation. When you double-click the shortcuts that are displayed on the desktop, Configure shortcuts does
not work and you receive the following error message:
Sorry, we couldn’t find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?
To work around this issue, type a single open bracket ([) in the Start in
field.

System Update icon in Start menu deleted after upgrade to latest version

I had a "System Update" icon in Start > Programs > Lenovo.
After I installed the update through System Update the icon is not there anymore.

Go to Solution.

I uninstalled System Update and reinstalled it.
This Start menu icon is now in the "Lenovo ThinkVantage" folder while all other ThinkVantage icons are in "ThinkVantage". This is a bug!

Try the following:
Open Topic.slp and select the search field.
Switch to HTML mode.
Copy the HTML code.
Go to Search results.slp.
Select the search field.
Switch to HTML mode.
Replace the HTML code with the code you copied.
If that doesn't work, the easiest solution is to delete the layout and add it again. Please don't use the WYSIWYG editor for changing the HTML5 templates. There's a good chance that things get broken if you do it that way.

Go to your soa domain root folder/bin and open setSOADomainEnv.cmd file in any text editor. Search for -Xmx1024m and replace that with -Xmx512m. I would prefer copy this entire line and comment one old line and edit the new line with this new value of 512m. So that you know what you changed later on. I do something like this on my side
REM JEGGA changed -Xmx1024m to -Xmx512m
set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m
REM set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m
Now you should be able to start the domain. Still 2GB is kind of low memory to start SOA Domain with AdminServer and managed server. One other option you have is while Creating SOA Domain, do NOT use all the defaults, instead check the boxes like to changed managed servers etc. And remove the soa managed server during this process and remove the cluster. Just have only one Admin Server and all the SOA Modules deployed to this AdminServer only. In this way, you will have SOA Domain with only one AdminServer and you can start this admin server alone. You can deploy any SOA Application on this domain and it should work fine.
