How to start configuration in SAP PS?

Hi all,
I am new to SAP PS module. I have not done any implementation project yet. I would like to know that if i get an opportunity to do implementation, how can i start with it? Can any one describe it in detail ?

HI ravi,
you can try from config tool , but i am not sure whether that will help you or not. Best would be to restart the server and change the parameter from Config tool again incase you have changed sometghing which is causing the service not to start.

Oracle Apps 11.5.10 How to start configuration.

Hello All,
Im stuck 11.5.10.2+ in a new installation that is working and nobody use for configuration problems since Dec 2005, this project has passed to me now.
When some body here decide to use oracle 11i they start to configure the software with iSetup and they never end. Now isetup is not longer available and Im stuck in how to push the configuration and do wherever needed to make this work.
My question: How can I start configure Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 or exist something similar to iSetup that can help to reduce the work and increase the accuracy.
Any help will be welcome.

iSetup is used to copy setups between two or more instances, and reporting on setups in an existing instance. But you can not configure a new instance out of scratch using iSetup. You can copy the setup from an existing instance.

I, shivakumar completed BBM in 2007 and have done MBA (marketing) thru open univeristy while working in MNC.
I have total 3.8 year domain work experience (worked in order Mgt & supply chain mgt & BPO) and currently working for Hewlett packard as a Process associate.
i also well trained for SAP MM module with my own interest & love to start my career in that.
But i can see there are no much opening for SAP MM freshers with domain exp.
Could you please advise that how can i go through for job in SAP?

If you are in India, please contact SAP Education. They have separate evaluation process, without training you cannot attend unless you have trained with SAP / Authorised Training Center.
Please go through the blogs in Certification / Career space.
Please visit

Here for each certification exam, you can see the syllabus.
You only need to study what is required for that exam, not the whole SAP basis.

Yes its possible if you are ready do all the hard work.
Opportunities wise SAP BI is on the fore-front as it one of the famous analysts tool used in SAP.If you have some ABAP skills you can certainly become a techno functional which is very hot in market.

Path: IMGLogestics executionshipping--packing
1) Define Number ranges for Handling Units
     Here we define the number ranges for packing the units.
2) Packing control by item categories:
    Here we define if the items categories that we use can be packed or not.
3) Define requirements for Packing in the delivery
    Here the requirement for packing is set. We are using std requirement. We can create our own requirement for example saying that the packing is not possible if credit block exists.
4) Define packing materials
Here we define the packing materials that we use. the material master for materials must be created and the material type is VERP. In the sales: general/ plant view in packing material data the corresponding packing material has to be enterd in the packing material type field. Ex: you create packing material Z003 and call it wooden box, then you must enter Z003 in the material masters sales: general plant view in the packing material type field.
5) Define material group for packing material
This group has to be mentioned in the material master of all the materials that have to be packed. Ex You define a material group grp1, then you must mention this in the material master sales: general plant view in the packing mat grp pack matls field.
6) Define Allowed Packaging Materials
Here we define all the materials that are allowed for packing along with the respective mat group. Ex: You have created three packing materials (step 4)
a) z001: Plastic trays
b) z002: corrugated box
c) z003: wooden box
you have also created a packing material group grp1 (step 5)
Now you must assign z001, z002, and z003 to the packing group grp1

After some discussion from friends and searching on internet, I have came across Sybase unwired plaleform and SAP mobility. I want to learn this. But I am not able to find a clear learning path for this. I am expecting that in this forum any able person can help me by letting me know how to procced. what to learn first, what to learn second and which certification I need to go thru, which part(developerr, administrator, architecch etc)will be suitable for me.

SAP Mobility is hot now.
If you need a career change you can definitely become a SAP Mobility Consultant.
You need to talk to any of the SAP mobility consultant to get some idea on how the apps are developed or attend training provided by SAP.
Sybase Unwired Platform is the key in SAP mobility (Where business logic will be written). To become an SUP developer there is no need of any particular programming language.
My suggestion to you is learn SUP development and Android development (Since you know JAVA).

I have installed "Sneak Preview"; Searched for start and stop scripts but there are more than one script which has named start.bat and stop.bat. Moreover, I searched the documents which comes with Sneak Preview but could find useful instruction there either.
Question: Could you please point me to the documentation where it explains the starting and stopping SAP, for Sneak Preview?

How to start & stop SAP J2EE services.

Can anyone tell me the steps how to Start and Stop SAP J2EE operations and how to troubleshoot the problems when the Java doesn't come-up.

Hi,
In windows,
go to SAP management console,Right click on the SID and then start all tasks
similarly to stop,Right click,
stop all tasks
If it is linux machine,
switch to SIDadm user,by giving the command su sidadm
ex:if SID is J2E,then it will be j2eadm.and then it is startsap or stopsap.
For troubleshooting,
1.go to /usr/sap/SID/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/server0/log
look for defaulttrace.trc file.
you can get to know the errors here and find teh root cause of it.
2.you can also look for devp_trace in SAPmanagement console.
3.Before doing all this,first check if JAVA_HOME,path and LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set properly and proper JDK is taken.
4.check id DB is up and running.

How to start sap on linux while booting?

Hi all,
I want to start and stop SAP automatically when the system starts or is stopped.
In earlier Suse (SLES 9) releases there was a script sapr3 in /etc/init.d which could be used for it, when the file /etc/sysconfig/sapr3 was filled correctly.
In newer releases (SLES 10) there is no such script (besides boot.sapconf, which is uesd to set the sap parameters).
Does anybody know how to start and stop sap systems using the init.d mechanism?

I do understand, that the function does no longer exist. But how to "create your own".
If I were to create one I'd use something along the following lines...

Can anyone guide me on how to start and stop the BI Services in Solaris 10. In windows there are options set in Start->Programs->Middleware_Home->Start/Stop BI Services.
Primarily after doing changes to the scheduler configuration, I need to restart the services to get it implemented? If yes how can I do it?

New in BI, any suggest how to start?

New in SAP world. Need suggestion on how to start to learn SAP business Intelligence.
My background is oracle E-Business developer. For reporting purpose, I am using Oracle discoverer, Oracle Report and BI publisher. My manager wants me find some class to learn the SAP Business Intelligence.
Question :
1) Any suggestion What class should I take?
2) In SAP, what is Business Intelligence? Is that a reporting tool? What is the role for developer in BI? Does the developer build the basic report and then user can further manipulate the final "look" of the report?
2) I found the SAP certification for SAP Business Objects BI. It suggests to take Crystal reports too. What is the relationship between Crystal report and BI in SAP world?
Any advice is welcome!

SAP BI has many areas to master. You need to decide if you want to focus on the front-end or back-end.
For front-end, you will specialize in Business Objects Business Intelligence and learn the reporting toolset. You will need to develop skills for gathering reporting requirements, and visualizing data graphically or in tabular format.
For back-end, you will specialize in designing data warehouses in SAP BW or SAP HANA. You will need to develop skills for data modeling and ABAP programming.
For certification, go to the SAP Education site and look at the recommended courses. I also recommend the SAP PRESS certification guides (eg. BI 7.0) to help study for the exam. You can also find lots of training videos and free content online thru SAP.

How to start/ restart the service in visual admin of SAP WAS 6.4?

I have installed the sneak preview version of SAP NetWeaver WAS 6.4 for default Database MaxDB. While developing a simple application to manage simple database table citymaster with 2 columns in jsp I am getting error as
Exception e com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at : java.comp.
Looking at visual admin tool for WAS 6.4 all the entries are in color blue but the last entry for 'DATASOURCE' is in RED color where 'java.comp/env/JDBC/DATASOURCE' is the jndi reference created for default DataSource.
Can any one help me that why the last entry is in RED and it that say that some error has occured or that entry is not started then how to start that?

I have checked the Visual Administrator's JNDI Registry service entry in the ejbContexts node but there is no entry for the project which I have created.
It get deployed while I right click on the project's ear file and click on "Deploy on J2EE Engine". But same as before while checking in Browserthe site gives the same error...

I dont know how to start server/services. (Any Web server required?)

Hi,
First of all have you installed Shared Services as you will need that as that foundation of the installation.
You will also need to install other components such as essbase if you intend to use it with web analysis.
If you have done that, then you will first need a repository to hold Reporting and Analysis information.
Afte start up the configuration utility and select the Reporting & analysis elements and go through the steps entering
details such as shared services connection, repository information.
It should install the components as a service.
