hi all,
I am a java developer, i came across FB and FDS through my
Friend, and soon, got addicted for the latest RIA development

I downloaded the Latest Trial of both FB and FDS and try to

there are sample applications available along with the code,
different blogs are also listed there.

Unfortuntly, this seems like a case of bad commuication by Adobe and the Flex team. If notable community experts get the impression of closed doors, then *certainly* the rest of us get this impression as well.

Im a solid dev, and not an expert but I can contribute in things such as testing and low level optimization; But, the Adobe open source site is a galactic disaster and discourages me from getting invloved. It has so many webpages that just go around in circles - filled with text that is verbose, this frustrates me to a great deal. As opposed to somehting straight foreward like:

Everything is here and easily notable. I avoid the seamingly endless pages and confusion. Next when I finially do get to Flex SVN, this trunk. is nothing like I have seen.what IS all this stuff and where do I go to learn about it? There are countless subfolders filled with things I vaguely understand and if I want to learn what it is. where do I go? Is there even a src folder?

I just spent 5 minutes or so twirling through all these SVN directories and Adobes website and I am clueless. I feel like the project is unessarily complex and disorganized - even if it isnt. This just convinced me to delete my Flex sdk bookmark on my SVN client.
Adobe just lost one potential contributor to Flex SDK.
We have another idea that were bouncing around that I hope to share in a week or two but wont get into now.
Saying stuff like this is what gives people the impression of closed. Why not post these ideas the Flex team has? Even if it is stupid or incomplete

Wow, thanks for your response. This is great. I now understand that I had a combination of prejudice and ignorance when regarding Adobe Open Source. Perhaps my ignorance on these particulars is something that other devs encounter ( that whole perception thing ). I have chatted with people who consider the Flex SDK and Flex Builder... not the same... but fused together so much that it'd be just crazy to try and use one with out the other When I mention using Flex without Flex Builder.... people get that glazed over look in their eyes....( FYI I'm a FDT man, but am keeping a close eye on the new Flex Builder ) I'll use Zend as an example ( it's the best that I can come up with ) but I feel like there is a difference between the open source framework and Zend Studio ( commercial software ). How to Adobe Flex + Oracle ADF

Hi friends,
I have to do a PoC on Adobe Flex and Oracle ADF. Using the Oracle Business Components I need to display some input forms, charts and tables. I am newbie to both these technologies . I have got some grip on ADF but still need to start on Flex + JSF or Flex + ADF.

1) installed Xcelsius 2008 Component SDK SP3
2) downloaded Flex 2.0.1 SDK from here:

You use the Xcelsius Add-On Packager (comes with the SDK) to create custom add-ons. Within this tool you can define visual components, connections or functions that can be exported as add-ons.
In order to define a visual component (the most used type) you need to first create two separate swf files. One contains your custom flex component, the other contains the interface (property sheet) the user will be using in Xcelsius to interact with the custom component.
1. Custom flex component (swf)
Develop your custom flex component as you normally do in Flex, Xcelsius SDK is not involved in any way here. Define component styles and public properties that can be later be accessed via the property sheet.
2. Property sheet (swf)
It's the interface to your custom component. Here end users can change fonts, colors, bind cell values to component properties, etc. This is possible via the Xcelsius SDK. Using the SDK you get to populate the interface initial values values with the default custom component style and property values. You can also initiate bindings here between component properties and cell values.
Under C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius\SDK you can find both the full documentation and samples to get you started.

How to automate flex application

I have a Flex Application that needs to be automated using tools like HP's QuickTest Pro (QTP) or something. However, QTP requires that you write some custom code if you wish to automate some home-made components... Unfortunately, we have some 3rd-party components which we do not have the source code so we can't really the custom code without having the 3rd-party component's source code and we cannot add some additional SWC files or some other files into the application to automate it. the application is already compiled and we have only the executable file.
how to automate flex application in above case. it is not possible to add any sort of code to application so can we add some sort of plugin to existing testing tool to automate flex. is there any plug-in available for that and for which tool?

What do you want to automate? Essbase has several different ways of automating functionality including Esscmd, Maxl and several different flavors of APIs (C / VB / Java). The tool you would choose to automate with depends on what you are trying to do.
If you post more specifics, we could direct you to which tool would be most appropriate and can refer you to the proper docs to get started.

How to start/ restart the service in visual admin of SAP WAS 6.4?

I have installed the sneak preview version of SAP NetWeaver WAS 6.4 for default Database MaxDB. While developing a simple application to manage simple database table citymaster with 2 columns in jsp I am getting error as
Exception e com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at : java.comp.
Looking at visual admin tool for WAS 6.4 all the entries are in color blue but the last entry for 'DATASOURCE' is in RED color where 'java.comp/env/JDBC/DATASOURCE' is the jndi reference created for default DataSource.
Can any one help me that why the last entry is in RED and it that say that some error has occured or that entry is not started then how to start that?

I have checked the Visual Administrator's JNDI Registry service entry in the ejbContexts node but there is no entry for the project which I have created.
It get deployed while I right click on the project's ear file and click on "Deploy on J2EE Engine". But same as before while checking in Browserthe site gives the same error...

You can start a new thread by making a thread object and passing it an implementation of a runnable object. Runnable has just one method, public void run(), this is was gets executed in a second thread. perhaps the code you would use would look something like this.

You can do as rizla said or go another route.
We setup profiles to use for all of the oracle homes. Then in the scripts we call the profiles. Easier to migrate and manage in my opinion if you have multiple oracle homes. You can then use profiles when ssh'd into the boxes, too. Both ways will work.

How to start and finish a transaction using EJB 3.0 in JDeveloper

Does anybody can explain how to start and finish a transaction using EJB 3.0. I need to start a transaction insert some information in some tables and if everything was fine commit the information.
I put the annotation @TransactionManagement(TransactionManagementType.BEAN) in my session bean and @Resource SessionContext ejbContext; but I don't what anything else I have to do.
Any help will be appreciate.

since 2 Month i am trying to use SAP Netweaver CE 7.1 EHP1. I found a lot about modelling of business process with process composer.
In my company we are often using SAP Standard Programs/transaktions, thats why I want to start a SAP Netweaver BPM Process from SAP Backend. I think there are more than one way. May be someone can tel me one easy way.
The following systems are available in my Landascape:
- PI 7.1
- ERP 2005
- CE 7.1 EHP1 with ESR
Does someone have an idea how to start the BPM Process or how to trigger start event from Backend?

1. Using NWA by instantiating a process
2. Using a Web service which trigers the Start event of the Business Process. You may find this useful:

which means - fixed length 4,6 and && starts new recordset.
I need to get structure like:

Let's say, I can add && on the beginning of the file and other "lite" changes... but structure stays the same...
so, how to start new recordset? with which conversion parameter? for items it is clear...
