How to Start Fresh?

Hey guys,
So my MBPr is acting up, Time Machine is taking forever, Spotlight keeps reindexing for hours and whole bunch of unexplained processes that is eatting up my resources like Fontworker never stops running...etc.  So I am kind of fed up.  And yes I read almost every post on the internet to remedy these issues before I posted.
I do have a latest Time Machine backup.  Now my question is how can I do a fresh start but without losing my data/setup?
If I wiped the drive and install fresh copy of Mavericks, and if I migrate from my TM, will it put back all the crap that was happening mentioned above as well?  Or will it just copy the apps...etc over?
Thanks!

... Now my question is how can I do a fresh start but without losing my data/setup?
You can do as you described and then use Migration Assistant to migrate your essential files. When doing so, select your User account but do not migrate "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". You will need to re-create certain preferences such as its network configuration, and you will need to reinstall any essential programs you may require.

  • Reinstall remembering old info, how to start fresh??

ok after a re-install of xp i installed itunes but accidentally left my external hard drvie on during and it was included in the media search. this is a problem because i have backed up my music on the external drive so it is comin up more than once, ive tried uninstalling and re-installin but it doesnt go thru the media search process instead it just installs the player and automatically has links to the duplicate songs.
the second problem i have is that it is duplicating songs twice on the primary drive anyway.its not converting them to aac (i made sure that didnt happen) so i now have each song in itunes 3 times which is extremely frustrating when searching fo music.
any suggestions how i can start a fresh install without duplicate songs???

HI foro-mark , just been watching this thread.
I had this issue on our G5 QUAD suddenly from FCS 1 compressor (2) and could only finally resolve it by completely reinstalling the OS and the .apps.
yes.. sounds harsh, but fruitless hours of messing around I finally resorted to it. I could perform QMASTER work on another STARTUP volume as a test BTW, so assumed some corruption of one of the component resources used by QMASTER task on production startup disk.
It was clear that the addressing excetpion at x'00000000000....' was caused by a bad pointer form a register.... so data driven I expect becase by other system was ok.

  • How to start fresh and reinstall qmaster

I had G5 with previous version of Qmaster and shake installed.
I naively thought I could simply re-install Qmaster version 2.1 and then be able to add this G5 to my existing cluster.
At first I got the error message
Unable to start services because qmasterd is not running. Please consult your user's manual for more information.
Lot of help my user manual was with that.
trying to manually start/restart the service did no good.
I then tried to clean out the old install and reinstall the software.
In another article I found it suggested I clean out the pkg files and the Qmaster framework entries in /Library/Framework then reinstall.
well I was able to reinstall Qmaster 2.1 and get it to start in the background via the commandline
now if I try to open up the system preferences for Qmaster it crashes
I can change some preferences via the commandline using qmasterprefs but I am unable to join it to my existing cluster nor do I want to in the existing state.
can anyone lend some guidance in getting humpty dumpty back together again!

  • How do I reset iChat and Facetime on an Air so I can  basically start fresh?

How do I reset iChat and Facetime on my Air.  When I bought it we had everything on my husbands MacBook put on the Air.  All the iChat and Facetime setting are his so the Air and MacBook won't iChat or Facetime with each other.

Remove their preference files in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Remove any related folder in /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  Relaunch each application and reconfigure.
Check the rest of the computer for other inconsistencies.  For example, the Computer Name in Sharing preferences may need to be changed.  Settings in Accounts preferences for the long name, account name, and password.  Changing the account name is quite complicated.
If you truly wish to start fresh then erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.

    Hi,
Here's an SCN tip for you: if you post multiple questions on the same topic and get detailed answers, then you should mark the questions answered and award some points (where merited).
Otherwise - eventually - no one will respond!
Anyway, onto your question. I personally think the best avenue of attack is to:
    - join an organization that is already running SAP, even if it is in some junior position
    - make it clear that you are very interested in SAP SD and are willing to do all the training etc yourself
    - grab every opportunity you can to learn SAP SD on-the-job
There is little point getting certified if you have no experience. I don't think it improves your chances of getting a job (and it can be quite expensive).
Anyway, just my opinion! Good luck.
    cheers
    Paul

  • How do i completely get rid of my Macintosh HD so I can start fresh and install mac os x Lion thumb drive

I just purchased the thumb drive for OS X Lion. As far as I know, because I only have 10.5.8 and I do not want to purchase Snow Lpd. I can just delete everything and start from scratch (according to an employee at the Apple Store). The problem is that I have no idea how to "start from scratch", its not as easy as dragging my Macintosh HD icon from my desktop to the trash can. HELP!

If you really want to start fresh and you have ANY PERSONAL files already backed up, or you don't care about them, stick the thumb drive in the USB port and reboot the system. Hold down the Option key when you hear the apple startup sound, let it go after about 15-20 second. That will give you a screen where you select which drive to boot off of, select the thumb drive. Once that has booted go to Disk Utility and RE-Partition the drive. That will wipe all information off it. Once that is done close Disk Utility and you will be back at the original screen. Select Install OS X Lion.
    Have fun.

  • Recently my ipod touch (old version ) was not working correctly, so i deleted everything from it---expecting to start fresh, however when i start  it up it continues to stay on the apple screen, what is wrong with my ipod and how can i fix it ?

my  ipod doesn't allow me to do the thiings it used to. It would change the time and date and everytime i'd turn it to the correct date it would go back when i clicked a new app. it wouldn't load apps corectly because of this date and time problem. So i decided to erase everything and start fresh. But now it won't even load properly it just stays on the apple screen with the loading spin thing stuck. someone please guide me into fixing this problem

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IMac G5, nuke and pave, new power supply, want to start fresh!

Hi there. My iMac G5 is old and was put away for years after the power supply broke. Well, my 6 year old decided to fix it. Sent the power supply off for repair. $59 later, we're back on... but we are ONLY back on. Nothing is booting up. Just spinning and flashing a ???. I'm on Lion with all my other computers. How can I just nuke the old G5's OS and start fresh? I have old Snow Leopard Disks. Can I start from that? Any thoughts?

The latest OS you can use on a G5 is 10.5.8, Snow Leopard is only for intel machines.  Use a retail copy of Leopard and you should be all set, or use the install discs that came with the machine.  You can call Apple, give them your serial number and they will send you new install discs.

That's probably not a good idea to try to share apps since you will have to switch ID's each time you update apps and sync apps from iTunes.
And technically - according to Apple's terms - you cannot share apps using different ID's. You can actually lock yourself out of an ID for 90 days if you switch ID's and if you associate the iPad with another ID.
The bold type is a copy and paste from the site that I referenced below.
When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.

  • How to start working in ABAP

    Hi,
I have a friend who is a Singapore PR.
She worked in non-SAP in IT for the past 10 yrs.
    Recently she learned ABAP(not certified).
She dont have the experience working in a company.
she has ABAP knowledge and can do the job.
How can she break into the market? Will anyone share your experience how you started working in ABAP without the experience.
Thank you so much for your reply.

I too beleive that if you are having about 10 years of experience as an IT guy , then definately one would have developed that understanding of the function as well .
In ABAP what i have experienced is that if you are having that business clarity or fucntion knowledge the you would think in a more effective way as compared to a newbie . As you would be aware what the problems coule be and what new would cropp in over a period of time .
As a fresher yes you can start in ABAP but it would make your friend diffrent from the masses based on his 10 years of experience .
    Good luck .....

  • Purchased a MacBook Pro off someone and was wondering if there is a way to delete everything and start fresh?

I just purchased a MacBook Pro off of someone. They left a lot of their information on it, email, photos and all that. Is there an easy way to just delete everything on it and start fresh?

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.
