How to start over in lightroom?

I really have never learned how to maximize this program and normally use Adobe Bridge and Photoshop for my workflow.  I have imported over 100,000 photos in lightroom over time.  I would like to know how to wipe the slate clean so I can start over.  I am planning on taking some work flow courses online so I can learn how to use this program better and hopefully streamline my work flow.  So, how do I clear out all photos that have been imported?

No, you don't want a new catalog each time you import.

  • How to start over while keeping all documents in tact..

    Hi everybody,
I made a separate admin user account because everyone seems to say its good for security. Anyway, whenever I'm in it my computer runs a whole lot faster than on my main account. I assume this is because it's folders aren't filled with junk and probably a lot of other factors too. I was wondering if it was possible to easily start over again with a new account and keep all my documents in tact to speed things up. I use CleanMyMac often and that seems to speed it up but not as much as using the admin account. I have a Time Machine if that helps.
    Thanks. Happy new year!

  • HT2371 I started to set up new ipad, I accidentally selected portuguese although I want the ticked default english that showed on first screen. Localisation screen came up (in portuguese) but don't want to continue in portuguese. How to start over? Helpes

Started set up on ipad. When I went to second screen, showing list of more language preferences I accidentally touched portuguese and this must have replaced the default, ticked, English option. Next screen, localisation, came up (in Portuguese) but I don't want to proceed in this language. how can I start over again. The ipad therefore is not set up with normal screen of apps etc. therefore I cannot change language back using this screen.
I also tried to Restore my Ipad to factory settings via itunes. You must update to latest version of Ipad software as part of this. The download is about 1 GB and takes 3 hours. Unfortunately when I try this on my PC it installs half the download then drops it - I have tried 3 times and it drops it after an hour and a half each time. I am hoping therefore there might be some simple way of setting up ipad that does not involve 'Restore and Update'. Very frustrated. Please help. Stuck.

If you press the home button it should come up with some options. One of them will be start over. Those options will be in the different language but you can try each one and via process of elimination eventually will get back tot the default screen.

  • Lost a hard drive with all photos, how to start over?

Hi. Please help if you can.
A while back, I plugged my external hard drive into my ibook and uploaded all my photos. A few months ago, that hard drive died. It no longer exists. But now, whenever I ope n Iphoto, I get a message that says, "could not mount drive [x]." I click OK, but it still won't do anything.
I have tried to import all my photos again, and it will import a few but then gives me the same message: "could not mount drive [X]." I have to click OK after every couple of photos. Since I have a couple of thousand photos, this is impossible. And even when I try to mount just a few, it gives me that same message, and just freezes up. I have to force quit to make anything happen.
Any ideas on what I should do next? I am open to uninstalling and starting from scratch, but I am not sure how to do that.

    mattcamera:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Was your first library a referenced library, i.e. you didn't have the photos copied to the library when importing, or was it a managed library where the photos were copied into the library? It sounds like it might have been a referenced library.
If it was a referenced library and you're starting over and importing your photos all over again, you should trash the old library and start with a new one so you're not trying to us a damaged database file.
You don't have to uninstall iPhoto, just delete the old library package, create a new one and start importing again.
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Bought LR post trial; how to 'start over'? (reset collections, presets etc.)

I got the trial version of LR a few months ago & now just got around to purchasing it.  But since I was a noob back then (still am, really), I made choices of catalogues and presets that I don't fully recall and probably weren't optimal anyways so I'd like to 'start over' and setup LR with a view to long term use.  I'm basically following suggestions of Scott Kelby but how do I revert LR to a beginning state so old choices are removed?
Point me to older discussions of this if they are out there (I didn't find them!) or make some new suggestions please.
(I realize workflow patterns vary greatly; I just don't want to be constrained by poor choices made when I was fooling around in the beginning)
    Thanks.

When I entered the  WEB module in LR, the old messy unsaved web gallery I had tried to create (my first try at one...)  would always reload and pop up, blocking any possible other work on a better webgallery for me. I wanted to start over ... but could do nothing really ... Never got to export anything as i did not want to do export my garbage ...
I finally did understand an earlier comment on another query (similar topic)  that suggested one go to the Adobe folder in Applications and delete the subfolder on "web galleries".
This miraculously worked even as my 'unsaved' web gallery never showed up in my Applications/Adobe/webgalleries, not even after re-starts of LR. Miracles happen.
Another work-around I discovered is to make such busted unsaved web galleries  "saved" and then delete them inside the Library module of LR where they now appear and can be killed, finally.
    Ps: what is SDK?

  • How to start over after migration mess

I recently used migration assistant to transfer my data from my old iMac and operating system to my new iMac operating 10.7.3.
The results are mess, mostly it seems from transferring 2  users over.  Now I want to remove everything and start over.  This time I will only transfer my account. How do I remove the mess and start over?

Use one of the options in the green box of Problems after using Migration Assistant.

  • How to start over with a backup hardrive

I have a backup hardrive that i set up with time machine. now I need to use it on another computer. How do I clear the old drive out and start over?

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your old Time Machine drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Migration assistant problem - how to start over

Bought a new iMac to replace an old Power PC running Leopard. Tied to use Migration Assistant last night and in the last minute while transferring time zone settings, it stopped working and said it lost the connection. Checked to make sure everything was still connected, but it wouldn't work and I had to cancel, at which point it stopped responding (I gave up, went to bed, and eight hours later when I woke up it was still trying to cancel). I shut everything off, turned on the new computer, and it appears as though most of the applications did in fact transfer. However, it says that 120 gigs are being used, which isn't possible because the old hard drive was only 60 gigs, and it wasn't full.
I think the easiest thing might be to just start over. I have reformatted in windows before, but have never had to do so on a Mac. This is a stupid question, but how do I erase what I have and start from scratch?

    Hi cbbjr
Welcome to the Intel iMac section of the forum.
To start over see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
    Also see > http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350
Personally I would only transfer my music, photos and doc's, so that I could start enjoying it and then as Kappy suggest's closely check the compatibility of any other old applications that I had before installing them.

  • How to 'start over' with music library?

Hi, Newbie here. Brand new Ipod touch 32G, 3rd gen. Yesterday i setup my itunes account and brought in my music libary, then synced to my ipod. Now i realize I have a LOT of music in my library I don't like and don't want. I want to delete the files from both my computer and my ipod. What I would like to do is delete the files from my computer and then replace the entire music library in itunes and my ipod; in essence I want to start over. I have not put anything else on my ipod yet. What is the best way for me to proceed? Thanks.

Separate out the songs you want to keep ( as well as anything else you want, videos, etc. . ) into a separate folder.
Copy it to some place safe and then nuke iTunes which will zap all the stuff you don't want, all the database files and so on (Be thorough, nothing should remain which means the iTunes Media folder goes along with everything else.).
No re-install iTunes and use the "Add Folder" command to put the stuff you've saved back into iTunes.

  • How to start over with Time Machine (because drive is running out of space)

I have a 500 gig drive attached to my iMac. Time Machine's been running for ages. TM has finally depleted the drive of most space. Should I throw out some of the older folders in the backup folder for TM, or chuck the entire folder and restart TM fresh. (Nothing terribly crucial to save recently.)
    Thanks.

Unfotunately my time machine backup gets to near the end and says "there is not enough space to do this backup" Neither excluding files nor waiting for it to kick out old files seems to solve the problem. I am stuck it would seem unless I erase the whole backup and start over. I didn't think I would have to do this.

  • No access to PC with  my itunes library - how to start over with a new PC

First time user, so any help is appreciated. I have an extensive library on my 4th gen nano but since my last sync to my PC I left my job so I cannot access my library anymore. Is there any way to use my Ipod to download my library to my new pc and then use the new PC as the holder of the library going forward? the library consists of only CDs (no itunes purchases).
At this point I assume that I have to reset the ipod, and start all over by creating a new libary on the new pc by copying each cd one at a time. I am hoping someone experienced here knows of a shortcut.
    THanks

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How to start over or correct time machine?

My time machine problem started prior to SL (Which now has no problems!) My time machine has no problem backing up, it just doesn't delete oldest copy...or any copy! So my LaCie 500G external HD just fills up! Its currently up over 275 gigs of back up's! Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Hello B;
TM does do thinning automatically, but will not delete the oldest backups until it runs out of space.
You might download a widget (Time Machine Buddy) and look at it. That widget gives a near realtime view of the TM log file.

  • How to start over with a new itunes account on an old computer

my daughter transferred all her music from my computer, where she had her itunes account, to her new computer and then went off to college. i can finally use itunes for my own music. how do i get rid of her millions of tunes and change the account info from her to me on what used to be a shared computer and is now all mine?
i tried many times to set up a new itunes account but get caught in a vicious loop. i also believe her massive volume of tunes has made my computer sluggish and hope wiping the itunes slate clean will improve processing speed.
    della corwin

Create a new user account on the computer. That is the freshest way. Make sure you designate it as an administrator.
As for her old music/account, if you are 100% sure you no longer need it, you can delete the entire account from the "System Preferences -> Accounts" control panel. Log in using an existing or new Administrative account, to do this. It will provide an option to save the Home folder and the users settings/files. If you are indeed having space issues, and again you are 100% positive she will no longer need anything she had there, you can choose to delete.

  • How to start over

I am getting a new iPod nano and I'm giving my old iPod (clickwheel, not color screen) to a friend. What do I have to do to clear my iPod for her? Once I clear my iPod, do I have to do anything to my computer so that my friend can connect the iPod to her computer? does she have to register it? will I be able to just plug my nano into my computer since I have iTunes already? I need some help!!! a checklist would be great!!!! Thanks a ton!

1 - Restore your old iPod.
    2 - Give 2 friend.
3 - Get your new iPod.
    4 - Update iTunes.
5 - Plug in new iPod.

  • Help!  Need to start over with iPhone 4!

Got the phone, looks fine, started setup using old 3Gs--ie, made the call to the number below and typed in the number I was activating. Well, then realized the service might not know I was activating a replacement phone, though there was some question addressing that issue, and I quit that activation and set out to call the AT&T number on the new, unactivated, phone, thinking maybe it was rigged to go ahead and call this one number even though it was not activated. It did that and almost instantly a popup arrived saying my new phone was activated.
Charge your phone/device following the instructions provided in the user's guide.
    Power on your phone/device.
Call 1-866-499-8008 Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Eastern Time or Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Eastern Time to activate your phone/device. You may be asked for any of the following information:
    Wireless Phone Number
    AT&T Premier Order Number
    15 digit IMEI number
    20-21 digit SIM card number
It DID NOT ask any of these other questions above.
Well, the 4 seems to work for calls, but the Internet is ridiculously slow, way slower than my 3Gs, and iTunes put NONE of my apps back onto the new phone after I (laboriously) backed up the 3Gs in iTunes 9.1. Of course I had to upgrade to iTunes 9.2 when I attached the iPhone 4.
So, w/o any of my apps, and with slow or no functionality on Internet, not much 3G at all, what I'd like to do is go back to square one, start over from activation. Is there any way to do that?
Also, for some reason the phone is constantly asking me for the Voicemail password, even when there is no Voicemail and I am not trying to pick up Voicemail.
I ordered thru AT&T (as you can see from the instructs above) so any advice would be welcome as to how to start over, get my apps onto the new phone, and have the thing run at least as well as my 3Gs.
Thanks for bearing with me thru this labored description of the problem. I hope it's reasonably clear.
    Pier
