How to start Xsun without mouse and keyboard?

I'm trying to run a second Xserver on a solaris 8 machine, but when I start Xsun I always get "failed to initialize core device".
I've tried plugging in a USB mouse and use kmdconfig to setup OWconfig, but this did not work. I've also tried to fool Xsun by telling it to use a serial mouse and then softlink /dev/tty03 to a console/stdout but this causes Xsun to hang after starting. I can see the second display go dark and then nothing happens. If I do a ctrl^c I will get "failed to initialize core device" printed.
Has anyone here done something similar?? Please share your stories/solutions..
Thanks

I don't know if this is related to your case, but Xsun will not start on a headless server since there's no video device attached.
Maybe this can shed some light:
Enable X Server on Headless System
On headless systems, The Xsun(1) X server does not run by default because it
cannot find any graphics devices. In such cases, the Xvfb(1) X server can be
run instead. Selecting which X server to run entails modifying options for
Xserver(1).
This article explains how to enable a service running the Xvfb(1) X server via
SMF on a headless system so that Xvfb(1) is always started upon reboot.
Document Body:
Usually, Xsun(1) is launched by dtlogin(1X). As there are no graphics devices
on headless systems, dtlogin(1X) cannot launch Xsun(1) by default.
However, by enabling the "svc:/application/x11/x11-server" service or its
instance via SMF and setting it to run Xvfb(1) instead, a X server can be
started for every system reboot.
Below are two example procedures that enable an instance of the
"svc:/application/x11/x11-server" service. You can choose either procedures.
- Non-Interactive Setup -
1. Create an instance for the "svc:/application/x11/x11-server" service.
# svccfg -s svc:/application/x11/x11-server add Xvfb
2. Add property group for "options".
# svccfg -s svc:/application/x11/x11-server:Xvfb addpg options
application
3. Set the "options/server" property to run Xvfb(1).
# svccfg -s svc:/application/x11/x11-server:Xvfb setprop
options/server=astring: "/usr/openwin/bin/Xvfb"
4. Set the "options/server_args" property to control access restrictions.
This is optional.
If you would like to disable access control restrictions (i.e. "xhost +"),
you can specify the "-ac" option.
# svccfg -s svc:/application/x11/x11-server:Xvfb setprop
options/server_args=astring: "-ac"
If you would like to enable access control restrictions (i.e. "xhost
+<host_or_user_name>"), you do not need to specify any options. Clients (i.e.
host or user) can run "xhost +<host_or_user_name>" to modify access control
restrictions. Please refer to InfoDoc# 77005 for more details on how to use
remote Xvfb(1) server.
5. Enable the "svc:/application/x11/x11-server:Xvfb" instance.
# svcadm enable svc:/application/x11/x11-server:Xvfb

M

  • 2006 Mac Mini (Intel 1.83) Connected to HDTV without Mouse and keyboard

I've connected my Mini to my Samsung HDTV and can use LogMeIn to control it from my iPhone and iPad via wifi. However, after the Mini goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up via LogMeIn.
I know there is a setting in energy saver to "wake on ethernet connection" but how do I wake it using LogMeIn or some other remote control app via wifi?
My Mini is on Snow Leopard.

How about using the Apple Remote that came with the Mac Mini?
If you set it to Automatic Login in the Accounts / Login Options, then you should be able to wake it and navagate to your media using your Apple Remote.

the setup that works to me now is
automatic xorg.conf with the AutAddDevices False (disable hotplug) lines
dbus and hal enabled in deamons
this lines instruct xorg to use xf86-input-mouse/keyboard instead of evdev. ie it looks like with evdev there is no point in xf86-input-mouse/keyboard

Today I receive my new Mac Pro late 2013. With my big surprise is without mouse and keyboard.
Which keyboard and mouse I have to buy?
    Cable or wireless?
    How and where connect?
I also see in the online store there is only cable keyboard USB 2 but the Mac Pro have only USB 3 ports.
Please help me. I'm very frustrated. I have this new fantastic computer  front me and I can't do nothing.
I look every where but I not find any information about.

You can use wireless keyboard and mouse.

  • Not responsive wireless mouse and keyboard, No internet/wifi and Bluetooth connection.

    Hi,
I need help as both my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard are totally no responsive and I replaced them with fresh new batteries. My wifi/internet connection is offline too. My Bluetooth signal is the Bluetooth with jagged lines "Bluetooth offline". I tried to disconnect all my USB devices and restarted. I tried the methods listed here but to no avail.
Yesterday afternoon there was a lightning in the skies and it caused blackout throughout my whole house. So it might be due to the power surge from the Lightning but all my other devices like my iPhone and modem router are working fine. I restarted the router too. It was fine the whole evening till nighttime yesterday. This morning I woke up, I can't do anything at all.

First thing to try is resetting the PRAM per the instructions below. If that does not work then please use the instructions on how to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard below.

  • Mac mouse and keyboard

Bluetooth wont work on my mac how can I connect my mouse and keyboard, I have a small USB mouse to make the process but bo keyboard

As I said above I keep a wired mouse as a backup always plugged in.  And I use a wired (non-apple) keyboard.
IMO all users of BT mice and keayboards should keep wired versions handy for when bluetooth is having one of its "bad days".

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.
also try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

  • How to fix the mouse and keyboard freezing when installing Windows 7 on 27' iMac late 2013?

Hi, I have a question for u guys who can solve this.
I recently bought the new 27' iMac late 2013, and I installed some softwares and used it for few days.
Before I bought this I used the 15' Macbook Pro Retina, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I used the Windows for gaming.
    So back to my question.
So I bought the new iMac and I was tying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (with the same CD).
After dividing the partition, and other stuff, the iMac rebooted and I hold down the option (alt) key. I choose the Windows CD, and it said it is "getting ready to install Windows". I let it load, and the blue screen where you choose the language, time/location and keyboard input popped up. At the bottom right corner (at the same page), there is a button that said "Next (N)" which u need to click it to go to the next step. I was moving my mouse to click the button, but I realized that my mouse and keyboard was frozen. I tried both wireless and wired mouse and keyboard but they didn't work. There was nothing I could do. I hold the power button, (that was the only option) and tried my mouse and keyboard on Mac OS and it worked fine.
I thought something went wrong in the CD so I bought the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The result was same. It frizzed again. (I just wast few hundred $)
Latter my friend lend me his Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I tried it, and it worked, it didn't freezed on Windows 8.
The problem is I played Battlefield 4, Titan fall, and Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 multiplayer doesn't work on Windows 8.1. Even though when it works on Windows 8, I prefer using Windows 7.
Dose anyone knows how to fix this freezing thing?
    My computer is:
27' iMac late 2013 (bought it just few days ago)
I did no upgrades when I bought it, except the graphic card.
I bought the iMac in Korean Apple Store, and my Windows CD is in Korean, can that be a problem?
Please leave a comment when u think u can solve my problem.

    See -> http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf.
In addition to the Windows disc (or USB flash drive with the Windows installer) you'll need a 8GB+ flash drive.
The referenced manual - on page 3, I think, gives you a run-down of what you'll need before you begin the installation. You may also want to post any further Boot Camp questions in the Boot Camp forum -> https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.

  • Lost mouse and keyboard in move bought new ones how to get them working

lost mouse and keyboard on moving, bought new mouse and keyboard. how can i pair it to my iMac ?

  • TS3048 I am usng a bluetooth keyboard with my Mac and some of the keys are not working.  They are the numbers 1 through  9.  I have gone through the troubleshooting for mouse and keyboard and everything looks good. How can I get them to work again?

Hi,  I am using a Mac computer that my husband set up.  I have worked on it recently with no problems.  Today, I am having problems with the bluetooth keyboard not  working properly.  The numbers 1 through 9 do not work.  I have gone through troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues and everything looks good.  Except, when I check the keys on the keyboard viewer, these keys still do not work.  The webpage guides me through and at this point I do not know what to do next, because the keyboard is still not working properly.  I sure hope there are some experienced people in the community to help me.  What should I do?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

  • External Mouse and Keyboard Stop Working When X220 is Docked and Screen is Closed

I have an X220 with a docking station, external monitor and external keyboard/mouse.  When I start the laptop from a cold boot and it's docked, my external mouse and keyboard work fine with the screen open or closed.
If I undock and redock with the screen closed, the external keyboard doesn't work and the mouse cursor moves, but the mouse buttons don't do anything.  If I open the screen, then the keyboard and mouse work fine.
I've swapped the keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem, so it's not the kb/mouse.  This is a brand new X220 and the issue has been occurring since it was purchased.
    Any thoughts?

    hey mhambalek,
hard to say what's going on, though i would recommend heading to http://support.lenovo.com , do a full update of your unit.
also, if the external keyboard & mouse & monitotor is connected to your unit without the docking station, does the same thing happen?

  • Problem with xfce and/or mouse and keyboard

    Hi!
Two days ago I've turned on my laptop with Arch and the display manager Slim has frozen immediately. Later on Single-User mode I've uninstalled it. Now in normal mode when I type "startxfce4" everything is showing up, but the mouse and keyboard don't work. I know it's not frozen, because animation of mouse and CPU Frequency Monitor is on.
Strange fact is that laptop is not connecting with the Internet, so now I don't know where the problem is.
It's happening when I start xfce both from user and super user.
Just before those troubles I've updated everything with "pacman -Syu", but I haven't seen anything strange. Also the computer could have been roughly turned off (by unplugging power supply), when was turning on.
    Thanks,
    Gaba

Sorry for not replying, but I didn't have access to my laptop by this time.
On grub I have only normal mode and 'fallback' mode, so I have result from 'journalctl' from normal mode.
I'm sending the fragment of this file where you can see everything after I typed 'startxfce4' in console:
    http://codepad.org/8pYIj8qC
I see that something is wrong, but after some attempts I don't know how to fix this ^^
    Edit:
Oh, I forgot to write, that I've tried activate some drivers from 'lspci -k' (there were no "Kernel driver in use:..." in almost every device), but it didn't fi anything.
