  • How do I stop Adobe Reader from crashing on my unprivileged user?

    I am running Windows 7 and I needed to create an unprivileged user on my computer. When I open a PDF file, it almost instantly crashes (I can view the document for about three seconds). If I simply open Adobe Reader without a PDF and click Edit -> Preferences, it crashes. If I open a PDF in any browser, it crashes.
    From what I have been able to surmise, it seems that Adobe Reader is trying to read the registry of my privileged user. I have tried uninstalling Adobe Reader, temporarily giving privileges to my unprivileged user, installing Adobe Reader on that user, and then remove the permissions, but the crash still occurs. The only way to stop Adobe Reader from crashing is to start the program as an administrator or change the account type to administrator. How do I stop Adobe Reader from crashing on my unprivileged user?

    It said "Adobe Reader has stopped working" soon after I opened it, but I was still able to scroll down the document. It was only once I pressed Close Program that it stopped working.
    Upon trying it a second time, it immediately stopped letting me scroll down when the program crashed. Here is the error log, I receive the exact same exception code every time:

  • How to stop the dock from showing all hidden images when hiding then showing applications

    How to stop the dock from showing all hidden images when hiding then showing applications

    It's not really something to snap a screen shot of. I believe it would need to be a video clip. For instance, when I am working on multiple images in Photoshop, I often need many images open at the same time, but I only have one image viewable and active. The hero image is active on screen while I hide the other images in the dock by hitting the yellow - button on the images. Then I "Hide" Photoshop to do something in the Finder. When I go back to Photoshop, every image that is hidden in the dock will pop open again in the active window, not just the image I was currently working on. I want these images to stay in the dock until I need them, no matter how many times I Hide the Show Photoshop.

  • Dev question: how to prevent Adobe Reader from copying pdfs to "Download/Adobe Reader"?

    I am making an app that downloads pdf files from a server and the users can decide to store them in the phone. Those files are kept in the app's private storage.
    The pdf files can be opened from inside the app. The problem is that every time a pdf is opened, adobe reader copies it in "Download/Adobe Reader" (the path may be different depending on the device and the android version). Those pdf files should not be available from outside my app. How can I prevent adobe reader from creating copies in that folder? Do I really have to make my app track them down and delete them? It wouldn't be the safest solution...
    In order to open the files, I se up a content provider:
    from the manifest:
    <provider
        android:name="android.support.v4.content.FileProvider"
        android:authorities="com.example.myapp.fileprovider"
        android:exported="false"
        android:grantUriPermissions="true" >
        <meta-data
            android:name="android.support.FILE_PROVIDER_PATHS"
            android:resource="@xml/filepaths" />
    </provider>
    And then, in a method, I do this:
    File pdfToRead = new File(pdfPath);
    Uri uri = FileProvider.getUriForFile(context, "com.example.myapp.fileprovider", pdfToRead);
    for (ResolveInfo resolveInfo : appsList) {
        String packageName = resolveInfo.activityInfo.packageName;
        context.grantUriPermission(packageName, uri, Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION);
    openPDF(context, uri);
    public static final void openPDF(Context context, Uri localUri) {
        Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
        i.setDataAndType(localUri, PDF_MIME_TYPE);
        context.startActivity(i);
    Thanks for the help.

    Meh, I just hoped there was a way to tell acrobat "don't create a copy of the file because it's private". For now, I'm detecting the "downloads/Adobe Reader" folder, look if there's the file that was opened and delete it.
    Now I need to know something that I can't ask on stackoverflow: what paths does Adobe Reader use to create the "Adobe Reader" folder? Because not every device has an external sd card (external, not removable. Just for clarity). In my device it's at "Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS)+"/Adobe Reader".

  • How can I stop  Adobe Reader from opening after start up?

    I just installed version 9. I remember a question that appeared during installation that was something like "do you want Adobe Reader to open after start up?" I said checked yes because I assumed this meant I wanted it in my StartUp menu. After everything loads and my desktop comes up, the Adobe Reader file opens up showing all the program's files and just sits there. I have to close it each time after start up.
    I looked through Preferences, but can't find a way of stopping the program's file window from opening after start up. How can I stop this? Thanks for your help.

    Edit>Preferences
    Under Page Display:
    Where it says "Location of referenced files", if it shows "Floppy Disk A:/" clear the box, or choose an alternate location if you can't clear it.
    Also, under Search:
    Click "Purge Cache Contents"

  • How can I stop Adobe Reader from reading (seeking) the floppy drive when opening/closing any PDF?

    Ever since I opened a PDF file from my floppy drive Adobe Reader insists on checking/seeking/reading the floppy drive whenever I open and whenever I close any PDF (not using the floppy).  It is very annoying, as I use many PDFs per day and it creates a delay and noise every time.

  • How to stop Adobe Reader opening pdf's in Safari

    I've checked all the forums for this problem and have tried all the solutions, however none work for me.
    I've deleted Adobe Reader and used a program call CleanMyMac to get rid of all files, so no plug-in's, nothing left of Adobe Reader. Yet, I cannot open pdf's in Safari as it still wants to use Adobe Reader.
    I've right clicked other pdf's in my documents and have checked that they are opening with my default program, which is Evernote. The option to 'change all'  is greyed out.
    What else can I do, other than stop using Safari?

    Adobe Reader installed?  If so remove Reader.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    Right click those and select “Move To Trash”.
    Remove CleanMyMac

  • How to stop adobe updater from wanting to update

    hi i have adobe reader and it keeps poping up i don't need updates for it what i have is fine to open my pdf files can anyone help with how to disable the updater from ever poping up in my tray

    If you are on a Mac I have a solution for you. If you have a Mac you don't need Acrobat, it's just slow extra weight trash. But sometime uninstalling can leave behind updater crap thats no better than a virus, shame on you Adobe.
    Launch Terminal.app (you can use spotlight and type terminal)
    Type: sudo nano /etc/hosts
    Enter your OSX password when promoted
    add a line in this file: 127.0.0.1   armmf.adobe.com
    press <control + x> and save the file
    What's this do?
    Adobe some how has some weekly background installer that contacts the URL armmf.adobe.com and downloads update software and then prompts you to install it or cancel, never a "don't remind me" option. So this just simply blocks any request from your computer to this one URL. If the updater can't call home then it can't bother you with a useless update it couldn't find. Simple.
    The hidden updater will still run and try to call home from time to time and I think someday Adobe should be sued with anti trust violations, but thats another day.

  • How to stop Officejet 6210xi from printing logs

    We inherited an officejet 6210xi. (No manual.) It is being used standalone as a fax. It now prints a log for each and every fax. This is a huge waste of paper, so how do we stop it from printing a log every time? Thanks.

    Hi,
    May be it is the alignment page. Please perform aligning the printer once as per the steps below and check if helps.
    Follow these steps to open the printer toolbox and align the printer, if you found defects on the print quality diagnostic report.
    1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
    2. Open HP Solution Center:
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
    5. Click the Device Services tab.
    6. Click Align the Printheads .
    The product aligns the printheads. When the alignment is complete, the product prints an alignment page.
    After the successful alignment, restart the printer and check.
    I work for HP but my posts and replies are my own.
    Say Thanks by clicking the Kudos Star in the post that helped you.

  • How to stop Adobe Reader jumping through pages?

    In two of my computers, Adobe Acrobat Reader (newest version) has this kind of bug: when I open some document, and scroll to some page, then switch tabs (if in browser) or alt-tab to another program, and after some time switch back to Reader, it "forgets" which page I was in, and displays random page, like it scrolls automatically to random place. Tried re-installing, different browsers, different documents, still this problem. If I don't alt-tab, everything is ok. Just when I switch focus to other program, and back again to Adobe Reader, document is scrolled somewhere else than where I left it. Sometimes Reader scrolls to another part of the page I red before, sometimes it jumps 2-3 pages forward. Why is this happening?

    Can you please do the following in Reader:
    Click Edit, Preferences.
    Choose Documents.
    Check the box marked, Restore last view settings when reopening documents.
    This should do the trick.
    Ankit

  • Adobe Reader Cannot Print or Update

    Has anyone been able to figure out how to get Adobe Reader to print in Leopard? I have a clean install of Leopard 10.5.8 and I ran the Adobe installer from the website. For some reason the installer installs 9.1.0, even though they are up to 9.1.3 now. I run the automatic update on Adobe and it says the installation failed because the program has been modified since I installed it originally. So the version I'm running is 9.1.1. I even tried manually installing the 9.1.2 update and it still fails. It says to try uninstalling and reinstalling. I cannot locate an uninstaller on the Adobe website, so I manually deleted the program and the Application support files and preferences files, and did a clean install again. Same problem. The worst part is that 9.1.1 cannot print files, presumably due to a bug that they hopefully fixed by 9.1.3. Whenever I try to print it just says the document could not be printed and then it says no pages were selected to be printed (whether I tell it to print all pages or select pages). Anyone find a solution to this problem. Big problem if Adobe Reader cannot print!

    Unfortunately, Adobe does not see fit to provide any direct support for Reader. Another fine standard set for the world of customer service.
    I did find something buried in the middle of a very long thread after trying the various other fixes listed there:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1771565#1771565
    It looks like this is another example of sloppy coding and case-sensitive vs. case-insensitive file systems. I found out several weeks back that this is why I my CS wasn't working, either. While I could solve that problem with a case-insensitive disk image, this doesn't work for Reader9, which only allows installation on the startup disk. This is also the reason why I couldn't update past 9.1, as this thread details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2086122#2086122
    When I "fixed" those filenames, I was able to update to 9.1.3, but now I could no longer open the file I need for my grant submission.
    Long story short, I used carbon copy cloner to clone onto a case-INsensetive external disk. I'm now booted off that, was able to install & upgrade reader to 9.1.3. I can now open my key file and I can print and even open the preferences within Reader.

    Your question make no sense. What exactly are you trying to do?

  • How do I  transfer adobe reader from a desk top computer to a laptop

    how do i transfer adobe reader from my desk top to a new lap top?

    You move it as you would move any other data files or documents; nothing special about PDF files.
    Easiest way is to copy them to a memory stick.
    Another way is to upload them to Files or Workspaces at Acrobat.com
