How to stop computer being put to sleep ?

In Windows 7 Pro I would like to stop the computer putting itself to sleep. It does so even though the time to sleep has been set to 'never' and when all four cores are working at 100 %. I am not concerned about energy efficiency, I would like the machine
to run my software without interruption.

I may have found a way to stop the PC from automatically going to sleep mode.
FYI: Disabling the Hibernate/Hybrid Sleep function will also disable Fast Startup in Win8.
Hope this helps (I'm testing it on my own PC right now to see if the random sleep issue goes away.)

My G5 shuts down immediately after being put to sleep and shortly after falling into sleep mode automatically. I have reset the SMU to no avail. I have also reset the Energy Saver preferences to the default setting.I didn't have this problem prior to installing OS 10.4.11. Any suggestions?

  • How Often Can MBP Be Put To Sleep?

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro.
How often can it be put to sleep? Will it harm the OS if I Shut Down every time I have finished with the MBP?
How long will the battery last if the MBP is left in sleep for a long period?
    Thanks in Advance,

Shutting down is supposedly more stressful to the hardware than sleep, and there's really no practical limit to how often you can put it to sleep.  I probably close and open my MBP several dozen times per day, on average.  It makes me worry a little about the hinge, but I haven't had hinge problems since my old PowerBook G3 more than a decade ago.  (And to be fair, I kind of whacked the hinge kind of hard on that machine, which probably played a role.  )
As for the battery, if you leave the machine sleeping and not plugged in, there is a slight drain over time, but it's not significant unless you leave it that way for a long time - like, for example, if you leave it sleeping with no power cord connected overnight.

  • MBP wakes up after being put to sleep

Several times the MBP wakes up after it was put to sleep, the battery runs down and it overheats inside the bag. I don't have any idea what wakes the computer, could it be the motion sensor? What can be done?

My wife's MBP started doing this after upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, after six weeks of hearing her complain of it when she forgot to close the lid, (I realize it still wakes up with the lid down, but since she only unplugs it when she uses it, that hasn't been an issue.) she finally let me look at it. I found using her System Monitor that the active app was Dashboard. When I told her, she said "I haven't run that for months, that couldn't be it." But, persisting, I opened Dashboard to find that she had a clock that kept local time. With her permission, I killed the clock and her MBP hasn't woken up on it's own since.
So, try running System Monitor to find out what's running after it wakes up.

  • T61 resuming after being put to sleep

Almost every time i put my comp to sleep it wakes up, sometimes immediately and sometimes after some time.
I only put to sleep using Fn F4 because worried it will resume with lid closed.
Any ideas on a setting I could change or maybe a program waking it up?

    Hello,
Could there be a program running in the background which periodically checks for updated content, such as an RSS reader or anti-malware program?  If so, does disabling it before the sleep operation make any difference?

  • Itunes match... how to stop music being part of it

so 3 weeks ago.. i decided to sign up to itunes match and that was the biggest mistake of my life..
2/3rds of music was fine.. other 1/3 (approx 1000 songs) didn't sync and wouldn't...
now got the money refunded back and cancelled itunes match subscription but am still struggling in trying to get itunes library back in a working state before I start syn'cing/backing up my 3 devices.
have now got my library back from a backup.. but "icloud status" for all my music is showing as "waiting" (and in left hand :column, music, films and tv programmes) still have a cloud symbol next to them...how do i stop the library being part of itunes match..
when i go to store menu, it says "turn itunes match on".. which makes me think itunes match is off but clearly it does not..
tried customer support and they have been rubbish..
    please help.
my recommendation.. dont subscribe to itunes match..

If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Before formatting your drive change the iPod update setting to "manually manage songs and playlists": Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.

  • IMac won't respond after being put to sleep/turned off.

I've been dealing with this problem for a few months now. If I put my hard disk to sleep or turn my computer off, it doesn't respond when I try to wake it back up or turn it back on. It will make a continuous clicking noise (no there's no disc caught in it the CD drive) and the only way for me to actually restart is to run the Archive and Install feature on the install disc. If I try to simply restart it, I get a blue screen with a folder-with-a-question-mark icon where the Apple icon should be during loading. I've had to skip putting the hard disk to sleep at all but I do just put the display asleep, and it wakes up fine after that.
I've noticed a lot of crashes with Safari and other things like games recently too. I'm usually able to just force quit the program and restart it though. I have a Logitech mouse and an Apple USB keyboard that I use with it and I've tried unplugging and replugging those, as well as trying other keyboards/mice with it to see if it's a rare hardware issue. The only thing I haven't checked yet is the RAM that my boyfriend installed for me a couple years ago.
Although, I've noticed the last couple times I've had to do that, I've had to wait to use the install disc. If I do it too soon after it's stopped responding then my hard drive doesn't show up on the selection menu and the Archive and Install option doesn't come up. I have to let it sit a little while before I can do it.
I'm not at home at the moment to see which exact model/generation it is, but I have the one with the flatpanel screen and built-in iSight. I bought it back in June 2006. I'm currently using Leopard on it (not sure which version though).
Could one of my boards be worn out? Or could the additional RAM be causing problems? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I'd like try checking everything I can myself before having to take it in to an Apple store. Thanks!

I bought it back in June 2006.
If it was purchased new, you are better off posting in another iMac forum. This is for the G4 iMacs with the articulated display arm and the dome-shaped base. It's not your fault--the forum labeling is, at best, non-intuitive and confuses plenty of posters.
Look at "About this Mac" in your Apple menu and note the processor type. If it says "G5" then your forum is here:

If it says your processor is "Intel," then your forum is here:

  • How to stop my macmini going to sleep?

My late 2010 macmini 4,1 has a habbit of falling asleep at the utter worst times and randomly. It is a little unusual in that it is used as a HPTV, with a Panasonic LED TV attached over HDMI, an Apple bluetooth keyboard and a Microsoft bluetooth mouse.  Networking is via Ethernet on a static IP.  The problem happens with all powersaving options set to "never"...
OS is 10.7.2.  It will enter sleep mode right in the middle of typing on the keyboard, or when playing a video etc.  Obviously this is annoying.  Kernel log output is:
             0 [Level 5] [com.apple.message.domain com.apple.afpfs.sleepState] [com.apple.message.signature asleep] [com.apple.message.success 1] [com.apple.message.value 1319140515] [Message AFPSleepWakeHandler: going to sleep]

I've googled about and there seems to be some reports of this kind of issue back through the years, but no firm answered.  Issue for me is I'm worried it is a hardware problem.  I still have a month or so of guarantee left and wonder if I should take it into the store to get it swapped out?
I have a similar setup at work with a 4,1 mini, running 10.6 with a wired keyboard and bluetooth magic mouse, on a Dell TFT and that machine has no issues with sleep whatsoever.
Ideally I'd like to leave powermamanget enabled so it falls asleep after, say, 3 hours of being idle.  But failing that I would settle for it NEVER falling asleep.
    Lawrence

I have not found a definite answer but the following article might be of interest http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=95016 this suggests the sleep cause 5 (a postive number) suggests the computer received a normal request to sleep.
I would suggest trying to reset PRAM and the SMC, if possible try running temporarily from a different hard disk (to eliminate a software problem).

  • MacBook Pro not waking up after being put to sleep

Hey everyone, got a weird question. I bought an external monitor for my MacBook Pro (late 2010, Lion). For the past few days, whenever I put it to sleep using the sleep command in the Apple menu, I come home at night and find that it woke up at some point, started collecting my Growl notifications and IRC messages and just sat there running all day. It's also pretty warm when I pick it up (I'd say about as warm as half an hour of Minecraft gets it, not sure how else to describe it). The monitor is being left plugged in all day, as is a Logitech Unifiying reciever for my house. It's also connected to an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard the whole time.
What the heck is going on? Anyone got a solution? Thanks!

The principle is this: whenever your MBP is involved in an operation that keeps it awake, your MBP will keep this command going - until you disable the process. For me, it's the application Printopia; if I have sharing disabled - which Printopia doesn't want me to do - it keeps my machine awake, until I enable sharing.
Your situation is going to take a little invesigation on your part, but I can guarantee you that it's not a system or hardware issue. Systematically, disable or enable functions - typically on Control Panel - until the process is resolved. There's no "wizard" to root out the problem.

  • Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep

    hi
firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?
    thanks

    hello
    thanks for your reply
i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere
    thanks again

  • IMac turns itself on 5 secs after being put to sleep - I do not have EyeTV

After I manually put the computer to sleep it awakens after 5 seconds. I deleted my power preferences I disconnected all drives.
It just started doing this the other day after having the mac for 2 years.
Is their a process log to investigate what is causing it to turn on?

This is for a Mac that won't sleep.
First, read things in Apple doc.#25801 on sleep settings.
Here is Apple doc.#303698 with their tips.
    Mine follow;
USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit. If you've set your Mac to receive faxes, it may not be able to sleep. It might also have a damaged preferences file.
If you use your Mac for faxing, open System Preferences. click Print & Fax, click the Faxing tab, and uncheck the Receive Faxes On This Computer box.
If that doesn't work or you've never faxed on your Mac, go to Finder/Hard Drive /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com..apple.AutoWake.plist files (if your Mac asks, type your admin. password).
If the latter file isn't present in the folder, go to user name(probably your name)/Library/Preferences, delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file, and reboot your Mac.
    Hope this helps!
    P.S. One member here reported this (Michael Gleason);
"I have had this problem with my IMac G5. It is surprisingly irritating. LaCie's Silverkeeper backup software was the cause. By default it gave itself permission to wake up the computer to check if a backup was needed. Do you have this or a similar program installed which has scheduled activities including wake-up permissions as an option?"
Dave Hamilton provided this link, xlr8yourmac.com, to a member, which addresses failure of deep sleep with some users that updated and added new FireWire and USB cards.
tomhorvat adds this; After few days of messing around I found out that I had desktop background (wallpaper) set to change every 1 minute.
After unchecking "Change picture..." in system preferences (under Desktop/Screen saver), my powerbook went to sleep all by itself.
     Good Luck! DALE
