How to Stop Downloading?

I originally installed Itunes to download some free physics courses from Yale. Like many Windows users, I didn't like the interface at all, so when I found a website where I could download the lectures directly, I stopped using Itunes for it. After that I was just using Itunes for the internet radio stations, which I admit is pretty cool.
Today I found a course on Quantum Physics from Stanford that is only available from Itunes. I tried to download the first course, but it only wanted to stream it, i.e. there was a button to play it, but no download. So I tried subscribing to the course, and it started downloading the 7th lecture rather than the first. Apparently the 7th happened to be the newest one (there are a total of nine).
So I looked around and saw a button to download all of them, and hit that. It downloaded lectures 1, 2, and 9, and then stopped.
So I hit the button again, and it started downloading 1 and 2 again. My ISP only allows limited downloads per day, and these are about 300MB each, so I killed the Itunes app.
Now every time I start it, it tries to download the same lectures I already have again. I don't even care about the other lectures any more, it's not worth the aggravation, but I do want to listen to the internet radio stations without having to download a gigabyte of stuff I already have.
Can anyone tell me how to get the dang thing to stop trying to download files I already have, every time it starts?
Thank you.

Once an item enters the download queue, the user cannot remove it. Contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the Contact page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) and ask them if they'll remove the items from your queue for you.
Looks like you can't edit posts here
You have a limited about of time - fifteen minutes, I believe - to edit a post. After that time, a post can no longer be edited.

(ITunes 10.4.1.10) How to stop downloads of free news pods?  (right click delete doesn't work)
Also can't scroll down list of downloads so as to pause them.  Would like to delete them as ISP has download limit.
Thanks in advance!  (this seems to be a dumb problem of the software having a life of its own!)

I have been talking to Apple support about this very problem. So far they have asked me to disable both Firewall and Anti Virus software (Windows Firewall and ESAT NOD32 anti virus) - this didn't work. Rebuild my library - this didn't work. Un-install all Apple applications and re-install - this didn't work. I have created a second user account on my PC and from that account (both accounts set as Administrator) I can activate Genius. This suggests to me that the problem is possibly linked to my original User Account, which is the one I always use. I am waiting for the next update from Apple and will post an update if/when the problem is resolved.
What I also notice is about 2 seconds in to Step 2 of the Genius activation, the progress diagonal lines bar stops, and then starts again. As soon as I see this short freeze I know that the activation will fail.

  • How to stop downloading a podcast that has already started?

Hi, can someone please help me with this. I accidently started downloading a podcast i didn't want. How do i stop it?

There is a button to the right of the name that looks like a stop square with a blue ring forming around it. Click that and it will stop downloading.  If you swipe it and select delete it will kill the data (be warned tho, it will also kill that podcast selection and I don't know how to get it back!)

How can I stop a download to my ipad2 while it's downloading?

You can stop it by doing what diavonex suggests, but you cannot make it go away.  It will sit at the head of the queue, and will block anything else you want to download until you let it finish.  You may end up needing to go to the tore on your computer, check for abailable downloads, and do it there, just to get it cleared out of the queue.

  • How to stop downloading on startup?

How can I stop Mail downloading messages upon startup, apart from disconnecting from the net? I have the download options set to manual, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. As soon as I open the app, little clock starts to slowly turn and the inbox gets filled with all the messages on the server.
I want to have Mail completely empty prior to the changeover from Eudora.

Thanks. Are you saying then that there is no way to stop this behaviour? That seems to be a strange default, especially if downloading will wipe the messages off the server. It's also strange that a lot of people have told me that their client doesn't download automatically on launch. I've tried everything I can to stop it doing so, though, so I think you're right. But I'm puzzled.

  • How to stop downloading 10,000 old emails

I've just got a new iPhone 3G today, and have managed to start receiving emails from a POP account on it (although I can't yet send any; another question...)
The phone has found the 'loads of emails' on this account, and is now downloading them in batches, going back in time, each time it fetches mail. Following another suggestion on here that worked for someone else, I created a new archive folder for these emails on my Mac, and removed them from the Inbox into here so that the Inbox is now empty, but still they come.
I'm sure that there's something really stupid I'm doing, so would appreciate it being pointed out ever so gently...
    With thanks.

    Allan,
Thanks for your reply, and for putting me right on the other 'solution'.
At the moment, the Mail.app doesn't remove messages from the server at all, it seems (I don't think I've ever looked at this before). Would you recommend that I remove them all, then, and have it set to remove them after retrieval? I have also been accessing them via webmail sometimes, also, which I suppose I won't now be able to do, although perhaps I don't now need to, thanks to the iPhone.
Not that I fully understand such things (obviously) but having looked at some other Q&As, it would seem that an IMAP set-up would be better than the POP one I have; should I see if this is possible?
Thanks again, and with best wishes,
    Jeremy

  • How do you stop downloading itunes match songs to iphone 5

How do you stop downloading itunes match songs to iphone 5?
Cell data is turned off but it is still downloading.

When you initially enable iTunes Match on any iDevice it is wise to let it operate for a good period docked or with good WiFi.
Best route to stop it if essential is to switch off iTunes Match.

  • Mac adds automatically a suffix when downloading a file. How to stop the Mac from doing this?

I want to download a gps-file for my tomtom navigation system.
These files have the suffix .itn
When downloading, OS X transforms the file from filename.itn  to   filename.itn.txt automatically, therefore adds an ".txt", and opens the texteditor with the file.
I just want OS X to leave the file as it ist and add or do nothing to or with it. Just put it in the download-folder.
When hiding the suffix with apple-i, the file is no longer readable for the navi system. There ist no option to tell the mac just to do nothing; you just can select a different app. But this is not the solution.
    What can I do?
    Thanks

I use a much older version of Safari when I do use it. I have that unchcked but when I download a file Safari just downloads it without any prompt for a file name.  What the OP needs is a way to change how Safari handles downloads so it either identifies them correctly and stops adding the wrong extenion to a file, or a way to edit the file name at download time. My old version doesn't have any apparent way to configure either of these, but I can do it in Firefox.
    What?
The file has a name prior to downloading, Safari does not ask for one to be added at download time (neither do other browsers), once the file has been downloaded the extension can be corrected.
