How to stop firefox launching a second browser when moving between tabs,

I almost always have multiple tabs open in firefox and intermittently when I move back to a tabbed window rather than opening that window in my current browser firefox will launch a new (second) browser and open my old tab here - closing down the tab in the first browser.
I move between tabs by clicking on the tab and most of the time it will open the tab but doing exactly the same thing will intermittently launch this second browser.
All other functions with firefox are operating normally

Firefox 3.5 versions and later have a feature called tear-off tabs.<br />
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.<br />
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

  • How to stop QT from opening my browser when I play an .mov ?

How do I stop QT from opening my IE6 and sending me to the ULR associated with the .mov? It is getting obnoxious, since file that I want to watch opens about three different browser windows... those open several more.

I hope there is some other solution as that seems like a horrble feature. Perhaps there should be a button to hid cloud content or to only play local content.
Who really wants to make local playlists all the time?

Firefox has no option to launch at startup, it will be an operating system setting that is launching Firefox.

    # Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    # Choose Accounts from the View menu.
    # Click the name of the user.

How to stop Firefox from checking for add-on compatibility every time it opens?

That can be a problem with the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder.
Try to rename (or delete) the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder to see if that helps.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can also check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

How do I stop Firefox autofilling my email address when I log onto hotmail?

Thanks Lawrence. I've spent over 3 hours on the phone/chatting to online support and none of it seemed to help as it all revolved around resetting emails etc but can't do any of it without my access to my old email. Now my phone won't take cloud because they advised to set up new apple ID and use that, but can't sign out of old one completely. Also doesn't help because my phone and laptop are set up on the old one. Thanks for the help.

  • How to stop Firefox from launching everytime I turn on my MacBook?

    Hi Everyone,
Everytime I turn on my MacBook, Firefox launches. It really bugs me, and I tried to stop it, but couldn't find how, either in system preferences or in the firefox menus.
Can someone please help and tell me how to stop it from happening?
    Thanks already,
    Quentin

This usually happens because you've added the application to the Login Items list in the Accounts preferences. Open Accounts preference, click on the Login Items tab, locate the Firefox entry, select it then click on the "-" button to delete it.

  • How to stop Firefox incessantly interrupting my work by trying to install an update incompatible with the Google toolbar which I depend on.that does nor

    Dear Sirs,
How can I stop Firefox from incessantly interrupting my work by trying to install an update that is incompatible with the Google toolbar which I depend on. Not knowing any better, I trustingly allowed the installation the first time the update notice appeared. It crippled my Internet routines. The toolbars did not work and the bookmarks as well as all the history entries were lost, I have had to reinstall my previous Firefox 4.0.1 and start all over again.

    Hi chib60,
Sorry you are having so much trouble.
Dealing with your last comment first ''"Copy and paste the information from Help > Troubleshooting Information." Why? How? This is ridiculous info - it has no logic or sense to it like most of your advice. ''
If you look to the right you will see a link for 'more system details' that is where such troubleshooting information appears, and it can sometime be helpful.
I am using firefox on a couple of old XPs without problems. Obviously crashing is not expected behaviour, but please try to think of firefox as two separate parts the basic browser and all the additional software as addons and plugins.
It may be rather unrewarding trying to track down the cause of a crash using crash information, the best way forward is probably to start using it in[[safe mode]] and with no plugins installed.

If firefox is recommended by your university, why not try it out on one of their computers, presumably it is installed on the university computers available in the library etc, that should at least convince you that it does work.
I hope the problem is not malware, but if it is all the personal computers you try, a possibility that can not be discounted is that it is some form of malware affecting those computers.
Have you tried Internet Explorer, that will be installed on your XP by default I imagine, does that work ?

I cannot get Firefox to stop being my default browser. I have read other answers online, but the links under the tools do not match, what the other say to click. I tried to go into internet explorer to change it, but the set default button is grayed out and does not work. Help. I cannot update my programs in Firefox.

Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General: System Defaults: "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"
*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
*Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

It could be a bug in the Flash Player plugin, caused by the protected mode feature. This thread has the background on that and known workarounds: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].

Update your Shockwave Flash '''v14. http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/'''
The link for Flash Player is: '''http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/'''
    Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
and then resets your search preferences and home page
to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • When I close firefox with ctrl-alt-delete, I want to start over on Firefox, I usually do this when too many tabs and windows are open. However, Firefox always restores the tabs and windows I previously had. How can I stop that from happening?

This happens when FireFox is not responding, and I want to close firefox with ctrl-alt-delete. Too many tabs can make Firefox crash. That is why I want to use ctrl-alt-delete to close FireFox. I tried finding a way to disable this, but I found no option to.

Ending the Firefox program or process with the Windows Task Manager "looks like" a crash. The proper way to exit Firefox is click Firefox button > Exit (or File > Exit, if using the Menu Bar).

  • How to stop Firefox deleting active downloads when the 'del' key is pressed?

I tend to remove old downloads from the download manager by pressing the 'del' key. Before the update to the new download manager, Firefox would not delete downloads when the 'del' key was pressed, *if* it was still downloading. This is no longer the case, and you can now accidentally remove downloads that are still downloading if the 'del' key is pressed.
Is there a way to prevent Firefox from removing active downloads when the 'del' key is pressed?

    '''<Control> J''' to open the download manager. At the upper right is a button;
'''Clear Downloads.''' This will remove completed downloads only.

  • How to stop firefox from switching to new tab?

The issue I am dealing with is that I want Firefox to open all links in a new tab but not to switch to them automatically. I have checked all the settings in the Tools >> Options >> Tab menu and I have them all checked except for the last two. I am on Firefox version 36.0.1 and I have refreshed Firefox several times and have deleted and recreated a new profile. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing or are there some settings in the About:Config that can be changed to make this happen?

Firefox doesn't have a built-in feature to divert ALL links to a new tab, only the choice of diverting links coded to open in a new window to a new tab instead.
What you are describing in your Tab Options is correct for the built-in feature. Some sites that use scripts instead of normal links might not be handled correctly, so if this is site-specific, we could look at the site and give you suggestions for workarounds.
I think you will need an add-on to handle other links. Hopefully one of the ones in the earlier post will help: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1052093#answer-704101
