How to stop frequent keychain login password requests

This problem is very irritating, I’m getting asked frequently by OS X to enter a keychain login password.  What I’ve read suggests this is related to a problem with Keychain Access.  One explanation says it can be caused by an administrator account password change where the default keychain password does not change, resulting in an inconsistency.  I have NOT changed my account password so I don’t think this is the cause of my problem.
I’ve also tried using Keychain Access First Aid, but it currently finds no problems.
In my case, this appears to have started after an upgrade from OS X Mavericks to Yosemite.  When I did the upgrade, the first problem I encountered was Mail stopped working – I was unable to send or receive mail.  I could, however, go to my mail provider at their web site and view mail there just fine.  That problem was resolved by using Keychain Access First Aid - I can now use Apple Mail on my "Air" just fine, but I’m still being inundated with frequent requests to enter a keychain login password.  I get these requests from Mail, AddressBookSourceSync, Messages Agent, Safari, Local Items, CalendarAgent, and com.apple.MailServiceAgent.xpc.
Once I enter my login password to 3-5 of these requests, I’m able to continue working on my Macbook Air, however once I close and reopen the lid of my Air, the requests start anew.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Keychain Login: Password Requests, Login=Pinwheel

I recently had to reset my apple ID and now upon restart, Claendar Agent, Messages Agent, com.apple.icloudhelper.xpc, mail and accountsd all request the keychain password.  Unfortunately, what I type does not seem correct.  When I open Keychain Access and attempt to login, I get a pinwheel...
Does anyone know what has changed that would cause these password requests and more importantly how to make them stop?

Please take these steps to resynchronize the iCloud keychain. Your keychain on iCloud and your other Apple devices won't be affected. Take Step 2 only if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, uncheck the Keychain box again and continue.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "Keychains" should open. Inside it is a subfolder with a long name similar to (but not the same as) this:
               421DE5CA-D745-3AC1-91B0-CE5FC0ABA128
The above is only an example; yours will have a different name of the same general form. Drag the subfolder (not the Keychains folder) to the Trash and empty.
Restart the computer and re-enable iCloud Keychain.

  • How to stop constant keychain login requests

I keep getting " Calendar agent wants to use "login" keychain " also with Mail too.
I'm new to Macs but I certainly want to stop this happening constantly.
    Ta for any suggestions.

I have the same problem. I tried to click "reset my default keychain" though, and it said it couldn't obtain access to do that, then the login keychain disappeared totally. I had to do keychain first aid, which added a new empty login keychain, then I tried the "reset default" again, and the login keychain disappeared again.
I know how mine got broken: I forgot the password to get into my MacBook Pro, so I followed some sort of instructions to reset my Mac password.
I got back into the Mac, and everything was just as I left it, but now I'm getting non-stop requests like nross5's that Calendar agent, Mail agent, Safari, Local Items, etc. want to use login keychain.
I've tried doing keychain repair, changing the password, tried reseting to default as suggested by Dib, and I'm still getting these requests. Do you have any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Mandy

  • Keychain Security Password vs. Keychain Login Password

    Hi,
Does anyone happen to know anything about the keychain SECURITY password? I know what my keychain LOGIN password is and have been able to change it. I don't remember setting up a keychain security password and I haven't been able to find information on how to change it or access it or even find out more about it.
    Thanks,
    Securitied Out

However under security, when I go in I can unlock it with my login password which is the same as my keychain login password.
I'm a bit confused. I see no security menu item within Keychain Access. Exactly what are you referencing? Additionally, under the Security prefPane in System Preferences, there are only two items requiring a password under the General tab.
But to access the network access information I have in it it won't allow me in when I use my login password.
Where are you trying to access this information? There's nothing in Keychain Access, that I can see, that deals with network access.
In the listing after date modified under the keychain heading what I see is System not login like Login file above. So I'm trying to find out what that is all about and just have no clue and am a bit frustrated.
Once, again, I have no idea exactly what you're trying to do or where you're doing it. You need to be more explicit and provide the steps and utilities/applications you're using.

Open Keychain Access - it's in your Utilities folder. Select Preferences from the Keychain Access menu. Authenticate if required. Make the First Aid tab look like this:

  • Does anyone know how to reset the Keychain login access when booting from disc?

I recently had Lion go bad on my Mac Pro (screen hung up with twirly grey circle). I tried unsuccessfully to repair permissions etc, so I decided to install Snow Leopard onto my other internal drive as this was the latest system I had on a disc; bootup with that and update to Lion.
After installation the machine restarted and asked me for the login user and password. I thought this was odd as usually it would ask to set this up when you first bootup; I can't get past the login. My question is how do I reset the keychain login access when booted  m a disc or is there a default I can use?
    Regards

I re-installed in  the end and the usual load in screen came – all sorted...

  • I forgot my keychain login password

I don't remember my keychain password (the one you use to unlock the keychain and stuff). I've tried a bunch of different passwords that I use...like my admin. password but it doesn't work...how can I reset it or recover it? thanks

    > I was interested to note your comment about being unable to reset the login keychain password after resetting the admin password on a computer with the install disk.
Resetting your login password with the install disc does not reset the login keychain password. When creating a login account and password, the password for the account's login keychain is the same as the login account password. If you want the login keychain password to be different, you must change it via Keychain Access. Changing the login account's password via an install disc does not change the login keychain password for the login account. I believe this is for security reasons. Although a thief can gain access to a person's login account and home folder/directory by using an install disc to manually change the login password for the account, this does not change the login keychain password also so sensitive data stored in a person's keychain cannot be accessed without knowing the original login account password that matches the original login keychain password.
    1. If you require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver, someone can't. To have your keychain extra secure, you can also make your login keychain password different from your login password but if your login password is not the same as your default keychain password, you'll be asked for the password whenever an application needs access to your keychain and your keychain is locked - but this would be more trouble than it is worth IMO.
    2. Same as the answer to 1.
    3. Someone can't if you disable automatic login for your login account which is highly recommended. Even though I currently live alone, I have automatic login disabled for my login account. If someone steals my PB and has access to an install disc to manually change the password for my login account, they can gain access to all my data in my home folder/directory but not gain access to sensitive data stored in my login keychain which is not automatically changed when manually changing the login password with an install disc.
This is also where utilizing an encrypted disk image comes into play to store sensitive data but to be extra secure, you should not store the password for an encrypted disk image in your keychain. My encrypted disk images require that I manually enter the password to mount the encrypted disk images but the downside when doing so is if you forget the password for the encrypted disk image, all data stored within the disk will be lost with no way to recover it.
Overall it is probably best to store the password for an encrypted disk image in your keychain but if you give someone else access to your Mac when logged in to your account, any encrypted disk image will mount automatically when selected which is also why it is best not to allow anyone else to access your Mac via your login account.

  • Keychain old password requested

My mac from work ask me for the old keychain password every time I start session, I have to put around 13 times in prompted windows. How can I update this password with the one I start session?

Originally, the keychain password is the same as the login password for the account. The login password can be changed in any of three ways:
By the user, in the Users & Groups preference pane. In this case, the keychain password is automatically changed to the new login password
By the administrator (if different), also in the preference pane. The keychain password is not changed.
By anyone who has physical access to the computer, in Recovery mode. The keychain is replaced by a new, empty one with the new password, and the old keychain is saved with the old password.
To change a keychain password, launch the Keychain Access application and select the keychain from the list on the left. If the list isn't showing, select
              View ▹ Show Keychains
from the menu bar, or press the key combination command-K. Then select
Edit ▹ Change Password for Keychain...
You must know the old password in order to set a new one. Otherwise you'll have to reset the keychain.

  • How to avoid exposing oracle login password in a script?

    Hello,
How do I avoid exposing the oracle login password in a script?
    Thank you.

Script is run from another server. I was looking into OPS$ but if I ran the script from a remote server I would have to set the remote_os_authent to TRUE. But that might cause some security issue. Is there a feature in the listener I can set so that if I set the remote_os_authent to TRUE, the listener will only let those remote servers I pre-specify? Thanks.

  • How can I retrieve a Login Password

Hello. I have two login icons when I start my eMac. I am able to log into the main one I use all the time, . However there is another one on there that I believe I made up for a test of sorts. Now I cant recall the login password on this one even though it gives me a prompt question. Is there any way I can find
    the password for it? Thanks.

There is no way to retrieve a password, but you can reset it from the "Accounts" system preference if you are using an administrator account.

  • How to launch a finder with password requested, not using  sudo in terminal

    Hi,
I would like to have a finder with password requested in Mac like we move the the driver in /System/Library/extensions folder to trash by command lines.  Using "sudo delete"  in terminal will have the DOS-style and not good-looking for users.  That is, I would like to have the GUI with password by some commands(or scripts) before I removing the driver.
    Thanks for your help.

You shouldn't be doing anything with system files. Those don't belong to you. If you need to install or update software in /Library, create an installer package. It will run as root, after prompting for administrator credentials.
