How to stop iPhoto opening when I connect iPad

Calibre enabled me to stop iTunes from opening every time I connected my iPad, but since Yosemite, it's now iPhoto that opens every time we're joined. I don't understand iPhoto, which never wants to do anything I want it to, so I almost never use it. Not only that, it takes an age to fully open while it tries to read photos from my iPad, the Cloud and probably from the Other Side.
I am guessing this might be connected with iCloud, but I want to stop it. I've looked at iPhoto's Preferernces, I've looked at a number of things in System Preferences, but so far I can't stop this automatic opening.

OK, I found it, but I can't see how I can control it. I have tried to insert a screen shot. Despite it being only 211KB and 911 x 542 in size, this program will not let me insert it. Right, so I select iPad in the sidebar, and it shows me a load of photos premsumably on the pad that it wants to copy to Pictures and which I don't want it to since they are already there, but there does not seem to be a way of stopping it. Oh, yes I could possibly send them somewhere else, but there doesn't seem to be a way of not sending anything anywhere. I think this may be an iCloud issue. With "advanced editor", I have finally manage to insert the screen shot - hope that explains what I couldn't.

I want to stop iphoto opening when I connect my iphone, I can't find this in iphoto's preferences, any ideas?

Just to clarify, you have to have the device connected to alter the preference.

  • How to stop iphoto opening automatically.

    Hi everyone,
I have forgotten how to stop iphoto opening up when I put my camera memory card in the reader.
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I am now using Photoshop Elements 6 on my Macbook.
Thanks in advance and a happy and healthy New Year from England,

    Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer but I managed to do it through Image Capture.
You have to have the camera or reader connected then open Image Capture.
I clicked on the device ( name of card reader ) and in the bottom left I could choose from a drop down menu where I wanted the card to open.
    Thanks again,

  • Why does iPhoto open when I connect my iPhone and iPad to my iMac?

Whenever I connect my iPhone or iPad to my iMac, iPhoto opens. This started within the last week or two. Any suggestions? Are there some Preferences I can change to stop this? Thank you.

Take a look at this article and note the section about disabling iPhoto for certain devices. Maybe that will help.

I trust that you have totally quit iPhoto and rebooted your Mac?

  • How to stop iphoto opening.

    Hi Everyone,
How do I stop iphoto opening every time I put a card in my card reader. I use Photo Elements and it is a nuisance having to quit iphoto each time. I have removed it from the dock but it still opens. I am new to Panther and iphoto so I am still feeling my way around.
    Regards from England,

Open the Application IMAGE CAPTURE. Go to preferences to select what if anything happens when you insert your card in the reader.
Image Capture preferences determine this setting. Don't ask me why

  • How to Stop iPhoto launch when iPod Touch is docked?

Each and every time I dock the iPod Touch (2nd Gen), iPhoto opens and asks if I want to import new photos. Every time!
But I already imported them and I want to keep them (screenshots made with iPod Touch image capture). So why does it keep asking?
How can I stop the automatic launch of iPhoto to ask this same question?
There are no settings in iTunes for the connected iPod Touch. There are no settings in iPhoto.
And I have reviewed past messages suggesting there is a setting in the Mac OSX app called "Image Capture" - "Down load to: Picture, Movies and Music folder" Automatic Task: set to None - but that does not work either.
What else can I do? It is VERY annoying!
    Thanks & Aloha, AW

For some reason it does not work that way. You could always try turning off the ability to open iPhoto when a camera-like device is attached, using Grab.
Mind you, if they are imported into iPhoto and you sync images with the iPod touch, then you might as well delete from that folder otherwise they are duplicated on the touch.

  • How to stop iPhoto opening on all user desktops

Whenever iPhoto is opened by one user on an iMac, the application also opens on the other user's desktops so that when you switch users you have to quit iPhoto before working.  Is there a way of limiting iPhoto opening onlu on the currect logged in user's desktop?

You could assign iPhoto to a space, that will not be used in the other user's account.
Launch Mission Control and drag the iPhoto window to a different space, e.g. Desktop 3.
Then ctrl-click (or right-click) iPhoto in the Dock and select "Options > Assign to this Desktop"
When you now switch to a different user account, you will not see the open iPhoto window on the main desktop, because it is hidden on Desktop 3.

  • How to stop iPhoto launch when saving pictures in Safari?

How do I stop iPhoto from automatically launching or coming to the front of the screen every time I want to save a picture I find using Safari?  It's incredibly annoying that each time I click to save one, iPhoto just jumps right into my face.
    Thanks!

    Hi Neil -
Thanks for getting back so quickly.  Unfortunately this didn't do the trick.
Perhaps I should have been more specific: I'm "adding the photos" to my library.  Each time I do this iPhoto launches.
    Thanks!

  • How do I stop iPhoto opening when not wanted?

I don't use iPad - I prefer Lightroom.  So when my iMac was updated to Yosemite iPhoto started opening every time I plug a compact flash card into the iMac.  This is annoying to say the least as each time I have to close it making sure it doesn't start importing images into the wrong place.
How do I "turn off" this feature?  No is no help in the iPhoto "help" and online Apple isn't any better.

Changing this in iPhoto alone may not suffice. Then change the setting in Image Capture as well.
Insert your Compact Card reader with the card inserted.
    Then launch Image Capture.
Under "Devices" select your card reader. Then click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner to reveal the ""Connecting this ... opens" and set this to Light Room or "No Application".
You will have to do this for each photo device (camera, iPhone, iPad, ...) you own.

  • Stop iPhoto opening up when connecting iPhone

Does anyone know if there's a setting to stop iPhoto opening when I connect my iPhone everytime?

If you have iLife '08, go to iPhoto > Preferences > General tab and set the pop-up for "When camera is connected:" to No Application. If you have an earlier version of iLife, that setting is found in Applications > Image Capture > Preferences.
iPhoto launches because you have images in your Camera Roll (taken on the iPhone). If the Camera Roll is empty, iPhoto will not launch. You may consider transferring those pics to iPhoto and deleting them from the iPhone with the transfer, then adding them to an iPhoto library and syncing them back. That's a better strategy for keeping those pics than leaving them on the iPhone Camera Roll.

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
set answer to button returned of question
if answer is equal to "Yes" then
              tell application "iPhoto" to activate
    end if

  • How do I stop iphoto opening on start up of mac? (not when adding a device etc)

How do I stop iPhoto opening whenever I start up my mac? (not when adding a device etc) There are lots of answers for stopping it auto-opening when attaching a camera, iPod/Pad and I have 'no application' selected for those, I just cant pin-point how to change the basic start-up/loading setting. Thanks :-)

In iPhoto go to the General preference pane and set No Application as the option when a camera is connected
If that doesn't do the trick connect your device to the Mac and launch Image Capture.  In the lower left hand corner select No Application again:

How to stop iPhoto from opening each time I add a photo using Yosemite

    Add image to iPhoto Library
From where.  I don't think you can keep it mininmized when importing because if it runs into a duplicate it will present a warning window for you to make a decision in. Therefore, it will always be open when importing.
You can send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
