How to stop Leopard corrupting CS2/CS3 Photoshop files?

Ever since upgrading to Leopard 10.5.3 (including updates since then)--the DAY AFTER I installed 10.5.3--I have had intermittent corruption of Photoshop files (.psd, .tif, .jpeg). The only constant from the dozens of times this has happened is that it happens when I am saving in Photoshop; Photoshop freezes up, won't shut down; I have to manually reboot; and then the file I was saving AND files that had been saved in the last several hours (and were okay) have been corrupted into Mexican rugs. I repeat, files that were saved and opened and previously found to be okay ARE THEN RETROACTIVELY CORRUPTED along with the file I'm currently trying to save. Also, when Photoshop froze, before shutting down, I've tried opening recent files with Preview and they look okay, and I take captures of the images before I shut down, and after reboot these are corrupted as well. This has been going on for six months, unpredictably. It has happened with lots of things running (iTunes, DVD player, podcasts) and little running; with a full desktop and a clean desktop; saving to desktop, Lacie drives, and different internal drives on my G5. Apple Store says nothing wrong with my machine, I've wiped my drive and run Disk Warrior--no problems. The only constant is that I never had this problem prior to Leopard 10.5.3 and have had it ever since the day after I did that upgrade, and subsequent upgrades. It started with CS2, so I upgraded to CS3. It still happens, however unpredictably. I also noted tonight when it froze that after reboot, I couldn't use Spotlight for ten minutes because the OS was "indexing". Error messages include "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered", "Could not complete your request because the file is not a TIFF file (it is)", "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the TIFF file", " Cannot open file because it was created with different version of Photoshop (not true)". No other file formats or files are corrupted, only Photoshop-created files.
Please note that Apple’s release of 10.5.3 caused corruption of PS CS2 files when saved over networks, instigating upgrade 10.5.4 days later. I never had any problem like this with Panther or Tiger; indeed, I wish I’d never upgraded to Leopard due to the lost hours and income this corruption problem has created. But I did, and now I’m stuck. Any solutions out there?

If you're seeing issues with files from multiple applications, I'd suspect corrupt sectors on your hard drive. Do you have an external/another drive you could install OS X and your applications on and see if the symptoms persist?
Otherwise, here's another suggestion:
If I was dealing with your issue, here's what I'd do.
1) Backup my data--not a clone of the drive, since you're having issues.
2) Erase the drive and reinstall OS X. Do not bring in any applications yet.
3) Apply all OS updates.
4) Reinstall one 3rd-party (non-Apple) software application. Test this for a few hours or a day and see if any issues pop up.
5) If things are still error-free after a day, make a clone of the drive to an external. This way, if any changes you make cause problems, you can erase the internal and then restore your copy of the clone to the internal.
6) Install another application, and repeat the steps.
Best of luck to you!

    For example :
Trace files create whenever the user run the sql/exp command from his application server.
This will created a huge files and caused the file system getting full (not in bdump but it is generation in application user home directory).
Is there any method to stop the generation of the trace files relate to the particular user base on that job.

    Dear SHANOJ
This trigger will created for that specific user by dba or person who have sysdba privs. it will triggered at the login time of that user and alter the sqltrace.
for example we have write one trigger in our database for every ddl operation in database.
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "SYS"."SYS$DDLTRIG" after DDL on database
    declare

  • How to stop prompts in Dreamweaver CS3?

    Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS3 with Windows XP. I want to stop Dreamweaver from prompting me everytime I use the image hotspot feature. I have a ton of hotspots I need to place and I don't like the extra step of clicking that prompt off.
I have searched help, the forums and google with no results. Is this possible to stop this prompt?
    Thanks,
    Sharon

I want to stop Dreamweaver from prompting me everytime I use the image hotspot feature.
ALT attributes on images/hotspots are necessary for good web accessibility. Your code won't be valid without them.

If you don't care, go to Edit > Preferences > Accessibility,  de-select images.

  • How to stop Lightroom from auto-adjusting RAW files

Is there a way to stop Lightroom from automatically "fixing" my RAW files? When I first load them in they look perfect (like they do on the back of my camera), but then LR auto-adjusts them to make them dull and desaturated and not at all contrasty. Is there a way that I can set LR to not do anything to the files and let me decide what I want the original to look like?

I totally understand where II is coming from. I too find it bothersome that in some images, the pre-processed preview is a more pleasing image than the unprocessed RAW. At the same time, it is the unprocessed nature of the RAW image that is the whole attraction and point to shooting RAW. An obvious workaround (if one is willing of course) is to shoot RAW+JPEG so as to either have the JPEG as a "target" reference or final image when suitable. And that is an option I used to employ until I got tired of dealing with the issues of essentially doubling the number of images I was working with.
I do disagree with II's thought that the preview showing up is slowing down any processing of the RAW image. It would seem to me that the whole reason the preview is showing up is that it is a prerendered aspect of the file that pops up while the actual preview rendering is taking place. While I don't claim to have technical knowledge as to how this all works, I would think that LR is simply showing the initial rendering of what the RAW file is telling LR it looks like until LR can actually make it's OWN interpretation. Either way, the process is fast enough that it isn't a huge issue to me on my system. In fact, those images where I see a vast difference between the inital preview image and the LR rendered resolve no slower than the rest.
It is interesting to know that there are applications/utilities out there that will extract that inital preview though. I thionk it would be very cool if LR made use of such a capability more directly as an option.
Anyway, while the frequency of my use of LR so far pales in comparison to that of PS and Bridge, so far I can say that such discrepency between nice looking inital preview and less than so RAW is far less common than it is working with PS and Bridge CS2.

  • How to stop prompt while opening an excel file in new window

    hi all
i made one table in jsf and i am having two icons corresponding to each row one for open and one for save. on the click of open i am calling web services getting the excel file and opening it but it is happening only . when i choose to open option from the prompt which comes when i click on the link. how to remove that prompt so that on click of the open it should directly open the excel file. plzzzzzzzzz hepl

in the url of the new page that you are opening add --> &RetainAM=Y at the end.
Following points should be useful :
Suppose ,you have to open a new window from your page by clicking on a link or a button and after opening, when you click on any button in the parent page, if you are getting a session out error… try the following solutions:
    1.     Add retainAM=Y in the destination URI of the button or link
    2.     If you have the back button handling in your code, ensure that…
if (!pageContext.isBackNavigationFired(true)) is written instead of
    if (!pageContext.isBackNavigationFired(false))
    3.     Also ensure that the trasaction name is exactly same in both startTransactionUnit and end TransactionUnit
    TransactionUnitHelper.startTransactionUnit(pageContext, "sameName");
    TransactionUnitHelper.endTransactionUnit(pageContext, " sameName ");

  • I am making an ad for a virtual magazine. It needs to have a hyperlink to my website, but must be submitted in a TIFF, PDF, JPEG, or EPS file. How can I do this with the Photoshop file I have already made? Please Help!!

New to Photoshop here, please help!

Normally the best way to create an add is to to do it and to export it as PDF/X-4.
From Photoshop you can save as PDF, choose either the standard as the printer asks for or save as PDF/X-4.
Never use in any case EPS.
If the add contains vectors and/or fonts PDF is the best file type.
If no text or vectors are used you could use JPG with high compression quality, tiff or (not in your case) psd.
    Take care that
Your file is not flattened to background, so all layers are alive, otherwise fonts will be rasterized.
You file should have a resolution in minimum between 240 and 300 ppi (not dpi)
With the text: is it pure black or is it 4c-black? K-Black is easier to accomplish in InDesign.
Don't make small elements in 4c.

  • How can I import JPEGs but not Photoshop files from a folder?

I'm wondering if there is a way to have import filtering by file type. Specifically, I want to import a large folder structure of finished images but only the JPEG files, I don't want PSD files added to the catalog.
Is there possibly a script or Plug-in that does this?
I'm using OS X 10.9 at home and Windows 7 at work, with LR 5.5 in both cases.

This is the OP on my home profile, and that ship has already sailed. Both work and home, there are thousands of images together. I could explain why but its not important at this point, and I need it that way for my on-disk organization.
I'm looking at this omission as a huge time-waster. Why import a bunch of files that you are going to immediately turn around and delete?
At home I'm working on transitioning from Aperture, and so far I am not impressed with LR. It does some things better but has a lot of holes. My Aperture catalog is over 155,000 images.
At work, I am dealing with legacy images and have been trying to use Bridge to organize things, that's been slow going as well. I'm trying to decide if the DAM features in Lightroom make it worth importing everything.

  • How can stop the bdump and udump trace files from accumulating?

The files are growing so until it is filling up the user's c: drive. It's hundreds of files over 20 megs.

    Angela,
The management of those files is a reposnsibilty of the DBA. ie The files dumped there are from background processes, session traces and your alert log.
The alert log in bdump should be checked daily and errors investigated. Some errors will result in trace files being dumped. The alert log will always grow during normal operation and you can simply delete it or better yet zip it up and store it somewhere for a period of time.
You can clean up the udump user traces files by simply deleting them periodically. For other traces you should have a look to see what they are for. Any ORA 600 traces should be investigated.
If you are not a DBA and this seems to much trouble then you can just delete the files to reclaim the space.

I don't know of anyway to recover your lost work this time.
    Be greatful

As a consolation, for the future, there is an extension that

  • Importing Photoshop files into Illustrator CS3

I'm running into a problem in Illustrator CS3 when I try and import a native CS3 Photoshop file. If I try and place the file as a linked file I get an application error stating that there was insufficient virtual memory. And, if I select cancel I get a run time error and Illustrator crashes.
If I try and embed the file I get the same results. It doesn't seem to matter what the file size is and .tif's work just fine up to huge sizes 100Mb+.
As to the system I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) 8Gb of ram, two SCSI drives with virtual ram assigned to both so memory issues, well, shouldn't be issues.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Ok, so ADOBE needs to get up off their a$$e$ and address this problem, However some of you guys make it sound like its the end of the world... Here's a way to go around it in the meantime- at least this is how my PC is reacting (you might not be as lucky, but worth a try)
After getting my "insufficient virtual memory" error, try closing Illustrator down and then open the file from the OS window (not from within illustrator or browse)by double-clicking the file you'll automatically open Illustrator,it might take a couple of tries but after my second attempt it opened my file (took a little long) and I got a different error message "there was an error with the embeded file what do you want to do - replace file, correct file, ignore file, cancel" (msg not verbatim but close - not at my comp right now)
Then just ignore the files delete the links (they'll show up as blank boxes) If your just using those embedded psd's for previewing purposes you'll just have to save a flattened tiff everytime you make a change and keep saving over that same tiff so illustrator will automatically update it to you illustrator file.
sorry for the long post, but hopefully it helps ease the pain!

  • Virus corrupted all photoshop files

So I had a laptop that I did all my production work on.  I use photoshop very often, since I do graphics, marketing, and web design.  Apparently, some kind of virus or malware has corrupted all my photoshop files.  When I went to go turn on the laptop, the .psd files wouldn't open because the file description was "Adobe Photoshop Image 13".  So I read up on a few other people that have had the same issue.  I re-installed photoshop and now even though the description says "PSD File" I get the error "Could not complete your request because not a valid photoshop document".  I already went to restore default file settings but every photoshop file that was saved on my laptop in the last several months is now unusable.  Please, someone tell me there is a way to recover.  Otherwise I've just lost about half a years worth of work that I neglected to backup.

I have some patent artwork that I created with Photoshop and I'm worried that maybe someone from a cloud storage company may have accessed my work.  The patents have been filed, but if they thieved my work, and beat me to the punch I'm wondering if I have any recourse.  That's why I asked the "date created" question.  The second question was just asking an opinion of what people feel more secure using.  My guess is the digital Image is probably the best bet.  I could try enclosing the password protected PDF inside a digital image, that would be really secure since they would need 2 passwords to access the material.

  • HDR-CX405 How to stop dual recording, only mp4 file needed.

Hello Sony, Yesterday i purchased HDR-CX405. My question is, how to stop dual recording? Only mp4 file needed. Both file created on memory card while shooing video scene - AVCHD and mp4. I don't want AVCHD (too big file), just want mp4 file only.

    Hi mkpi49,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
I would just like to confirm the answer VideoGeek posted. The camera can only record in Mp4 when it's set to Dual Rec. Both an AVCHD and Mp4 file will be created and written on your card. We would also suggest recording in AVCHD and later converting the file to Mp4 using the PlayMemories Home software.

  • OSX Leopard /CS2 suite + Photoshop CS2

    Hi.
I am using a dual 2.3 Ghz G5 Powermac, a macbook Pro and a new Imac 2.4ghz Intel. My dilemma is as follows:
I am currently using CS2 suite and would like to be using Photoshop CS3, for the new features and the intel compatibility. As there are parts of the CS2 suite I still use ( GoLive / Indesign) I would like to install just the Photoshop CS3 standalone and continue using the older suite too. I was also intending upgrading the OSX to Leopard and doing a clean install on the G5 and Macbookpro machines, not the imac, it is already installed on that one.
The question is this: Will I have problems if I have two versions of photoshop installed on the machines and how will this work with plug-ins. Obviously I just want to use the plug-ins for CS3 Photoshop.
I realise it would be easier to upgrade the whole suite, but that is costly and the new suite does not include GoLive so even more cost to upgrade that application.
    Any ideas??

    > Grain surgery≤
Alas, Grain Surgery is not universal binary. :( It's one of the many reasons perhaps the most important one why I am not planning to move to a Mac-Intel machine for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, Adobe acquired Grain surgery and have more or less let it languish in PPC mode. To their credit, they did fix CS3 during the beta process to allow it to run Grain Surgery (not the other way around) natively on a PPC machine and in Rosetta PPC emulation on a Mac-Intel box, as early Photoshop 10.x builds crashed spectacularly the instant you tried to access
any of the four Grain Surgery filters.
Grain Surgery is as essential for my workflow as Photoshop and ACR are.
    > have an old version of Photoshop (7) so I can use that number to install the pS CS3 update and the number from my old CS suite for my CS2 suite ....... I presume!
Not if you used that Photoshop 7.x serial number to upgrade to the suite.
In any event, be advised that Photoshop 7.x will not qualify for upgrading to anything once CS4 ("Stonehenge") is formally announced.
