Hi,
1. The version of Messaging you're using, is very,
very old. If you do not have a support contract, you
should at least download and apply 5.2p2.
What difference does it makes ?? can you explain
me..So Jay doesn't have to re-explain this for the thousandth time.
5.2p2 contains hundreds of fixes and can pro-actively fix problems that you may have not hit yet. We always recommend that customers all use up-to-date software if possible. In the same way that you should be patching your Operating System and other applications.
my ques ...
What will happen if i'm using "dnsverify" keyword in
TCP local channel ??
can you explain me ??Do you mean the dns_verify keyword in the mapping table or the mailfromdnsverify channel keyword?
Either way I recommend you look at the iMS5.2 Admin Guide which explains both of these keywords and how to use them.
Regards,
Shane.

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

how to stop mail from recovering a too large message

You can't stop Mail from storing sent messages locally. If they're synchronized with the IMAP server, they'll still be present locally. The only way to get the effect you seem to want is to use webmail.

How to stop Mail from selecting addresses from the list of Previous Recipients?

    This is a related question.
I deleted ALL my previous recipients and when I create a new e-mail it STILL is getting addresses that I don't want - they pop up and I don't know how to stop this!
I switched from one ISP to another - I deleted the old e-mail account in MAIL - I DID use the same name on the account - is that why it keeps bringing up the old address?
    ARGH!

  • How to STOP Mail from launching at startup

I hate even posting this question because it seems like I'm missing something easy. I want to stop mail from launching at start-up because I now have entourage.
I can find how to TURN OFF mail and TURN ON entourage at start up.
    Mail: 2.1.3
    Entourage: 12.2.3

You're overlooking the obvious, as you suspected.
Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and remove Mail from that list. If you want Entourage to startup, add that to the list.
However, there's no good reason to use Entourage over Mail, especially because it stores all your mail in a single file, so if that file ever becomes corrupted (it will, at the worst possible time) all your mail is gone; it cannot be recovered.
Secondly, you shouldn't startup applications at launch, since that will slow down your startup time and can easily cause other problems before you even get the chance to do anything with the computer. If you need to use a program, launch it after the Finder has loaded completely.

  • How to stop Mail from searching for sender's image?

When I'm going through messages in Mail, it won't display the message in the preview pane for several seconds until it completes the "Searching for sender's image" process. I have a large address book with several thousand entries. Is there a way to prevent Mail from searching for the contact's image in the Address Book? This wasn't an issue in 10.4.11.

The iPhone data plans are unlimited, so you shouldnt be concerned about cost. That being said, it is ANNOYING to have all accounts (I have six) check email just because I launch the mail app. And if I follow a URL in an email to Safari, then come back to Mail, it checks AGAIN.
Nope, there is not way to stop if from doing that short of turning the account OFF under Mail Settings, which is even MORE inconvenient. I went to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and left them a message. Perhaps you should do the same.

  • How to stop Mail from downloading automatically even it is set not too

My mail programme preferences are set to download manually.
In advanced, the account is not 'included in automatically checking for new mail'
I use scripts to send mails after certain tasks are ready. Sometimes (randomly) mail all of a sudden downloads all mail.
Anybody know what could cause this?
How to stop it as I do not want it to download mail at all as I use an other programme for reading and writing mail.

    Hi Mulder
What you're describing doesn't make sense. Mail doesn't download mail if it's set to wait for a manual initiation.
    I know however...
But once that is check is initiated, any and all waiting mail will be downloaded.
    I know.
I've never heard of this happening before, to anyone. Unless your preferences are corrupted, which there's no indication of at this point, something else is triggering Mail to check for new email.
I never heard either, hence posting
But if you're using some other program for sending and receiving email, why would you have that account setup in Mail, as that would defeat the purpose of supposedly using that other program. If you really want to eliminate the possibility of this happening, you would need to delete that account in Mail, and backup the mail for that account before you delete it.
complex issue, but rather keep both programmes.
Otherwise, we need more details, including which version of Mac OS X you're running, and the other program that you're using for email.
    OS 10.5.5
    Mail 3.5

  • How to stop bounces to unknown users?

I've had a domain name for 12 years now and it's become quite a spam magnet. I get thousands of spam emails daily and they totally glut up the message queue (and can really slow down the mail service).
I have been scouring the web looking for a way to turn of any response to an arriving email for an unknown user.
I'm fine accepting spam for a user that I know (and dealing with it at the client) but I'm tired of wasting bandwidth & cycles on a polite "I'm sorry, but there's no one here by that name) to spammers.
I think manually editing the main.cf file is the key. I tried enabling this directive - bit it didn't seem to change the behavior:
    localrecipientmaps = unix:passwd.byname $alias_maps
    #alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases
I added some test emails addresses to the aliases file - but that also had no effect.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to achieve this?
    Thanks
    Greg

  • How to stop mail from checking a non-existing smtp account?

Mail keeps checking a smtp account for an eamil where I have an exchange account.  If I use the mail connection doctor, it clearly shows that mail keeps trying to connect but fails.  This ties up my wireless network and is annoying.  How do I stop this?  Where could I find this account to delete it?  It does not show up in the list of accounts.

I found a good explaination at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6865787#6865787
that tells me that I actually have to remove the old outgoing mail servers.  Its not enought to just turn them off.

  • How to stop Mail from uploading read messages

I am rebuilding Mail on a new hard drive from a backup Mail folder (POP account). I changed all the permissions on the old folder (including the internal folders) so I could replace the "new" Mail with the old backup Mail folder. Seemed to work except Mail now does not recognize previously read messages as read. It continually downloads hundreds of them -they are duplicates. And the message bodies are blank. Obviously I forgot to do something in my manual restore. Ideas on how to fix this?

Does anyone out there have a handy fix for this problem? I'm having the same issue, and it's driving me nuts. As of right now I have 8815 "unread" messages from Gmail...sigh. Some of those are truly unread, but definitely not 8815. Is there a way to sync Mail and Gmail so it recognizes which messages have been read/deleted/archived/etc?

  • How to stop Mail from downloading automatically?

I have the preferences for mail set to download manually. however, every time I send a mail or sometimes when I start the programme it downloads the mail. anybody know how to fix this?

In Mail preferences, select the Accounts section. For each account, go to the Advanced tab and make sure that the 'Include when automatically checking for new mail' option is unchecked.
    That should do it.

Dear Mr. Toad (my all-time favorite ride at Disneyland ;-) ..
Thanks so much for your detailed reply.. my netbook is in the bedroom, turned off.. I (so far) only use it in the evening, in the bedroom.. I've saved your response, and will try your suggestions, and let you know if they solve the problem I described. I really appreciate you taking the time to post such a detailed reply..
I can't answer your Thunderbird "configuration" questions, because I'm in the living room, using the crap Vista laptop, on which I plan to install Thunderbird, and then take Windoze Mail out in the street and drive over it a few times.. I'll get back to you one way or the other, and let you know if your instructions solved the problem, or not..
I don't understand why Thunderbird "out of the box", so to speak, simply doesn't forward HTML emails with embedded graphics, (like Outlook Excess, and Winblows Mail do).. without having to go through those steps. I personally HATE HTML email, but over the years, it's become more and more prevelant.. so it's a problem I must fix..
    Thanks again..
    Harv..
