How to stop my macmini going to sleep?

My late 2010 macmini 4,1 has a habbit of falling asleep at the utter worst times and randomly. It is a little unusual in that it is used as a HPTV, with a Panasonic LED TV attached over HDMI, an Apple bluetooth keyboard and a Microsoft bluetooth mouse.  Networking is via Ethernet on a static IP.  The problem happens with all powersaving options set to "never"...
OS is 10.7.2.  It will enter sleep mode right in the middle of typing on the keyboard, or when playing a video etc.  Obviously this is annoying.  Kernel log output is:
         0 [Level 5] [com.apple.message.domain com.apple.afpfs.sleepState] [com.apple.message.signature asleep] [com.apple.message.success 1] [com.apple.message.value 1319140515] [Message AFPSleepWakeHandler: going to sleep]

I've googled about and there seems to be some reports of this kind of issue back through the years, but no firm answered.  Issue for me is I'm worried it is a hardware problem.  I still have a month or so of guarantee left and wonder if I should take it into the store to get it swapped out?
I have a similar setup at work with a 4,1 mini, running 10.6 with a wired keyboard and bluetooth magic mouse, on a Dell TFT and that machine has no issues with sleep whatsoever.
Ideally I'd like to leave powermamanget enabled so it falls asleep after, say, 3 hours of being idle.  But failing that I would settle for it NEVER falling asleep.

I have not found a definite answer but the following article might be of interest http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=95016 this suggests the sleep cause 5 (a postive number) suggests the computer received a normal request to sleep.
I would suggest trying to reset PRAM and the SMC, if possible try running temporarily from a different hard disk (to eliminate a software problem).

  • How do I stop iMac from going to sleep automatically after 15minutes of inactivity

How do I stop imac from shutting down automatically after 15minutes of inactivity, trying to play music but the imac keeps going to sleep, tried changing power saving preferences to never shut down, never go to sleep, unticked put the hard disks to sleep, automatically reduce brightness, but still goes to sleep.

    Try a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • Music stops when screen goes to sleep but my headphones are inserted correctly?

I have an Ipod nano 6th Gen, and when the screen goes to sleep the music stops.  I have set up my sleep/wake button to play/pause so when the screen goes black and the music has stopped, I press the sleep/wake button twice and the music starts again without the screen coming back on.  I have read other comments and I have made sure that my headphones are all the way there does not appear to be anything obstructing the headphones either.  Is anyone able to help me?  Thank you

Solved by using a 3rd party music player that can access the library on the iPad and no longer using Apple's iPod app.

I may have found a way to stop the PC from automatically going to sleep mode.
FYI: Disabling the Hibernate/Hybrid Sleep function will also disable Fast Startup in Win8.
Hope this helps (I'm testing it on my own PC right now to see if the random sleep issue goes away.)

  • Music stops when PC goes to sleep

    Any help would be appreciated
I play my ipod through itunes for windows and since the 5.0 update whenever my PC (or laptop) goes to sleep the music stops playing.
I have to press play on itunes to get things started again then it happens again when it goes to sleep
This never happened until I updated my ipod touch so any help would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I normally fix this by pausing it, turning it off manually and then turning ti back on. That seems to reset it.

  • How can I stop my iMac going to sleep irrespective of energy saving settings?

I've just bought Apple TV but can't enjoy it because the iMac keeps shutting down, disrupting the connection to iTunes. I've set the Energy saver settings to 'Computer sleep: never' and Display sleep: never', but it still shuts down apparently at random. I've even set the screen saver at 'Never' - so what do I find? I come back after a time away from the desk to find the screensaver going and the computer asleep. When I wake it up it complains that (for example) 'MS Word interrupted log-out' - well, I'm not surprised - I didn't tell it to log out in the first **** place. it takes a lot for me to say this about any Apple device but I'm getting seriously fed up with this machine. BTW it's an iMac 21.5" just over a year old and running all the latest updated software.

Thank you for helping but this is autolock not sleep mode
after i leave my iphone on the table for example i wait 1 minute or more and wi-fi stops working.
    Any ideea? thank you

  • How to stop firefox from going to a URL your most is hovering over when you type in a URL and press enter.

When you open a new tab and begin to type a url to visit, if your mouse is hovering over any of the suggested results when you press enter, instead of firefox going to the url you have typed, it goes to the url that the mouse was hovering over.
Is there a way to disable this functionality as it is annoying when you are say, trying to access youtube or google, but then you goto a completely different page from your history because your mouse was hovering over a suggested result.

    @philipp:
I restarted in safe mode with all add-ons disabled and the problem still persists. Apparently a friend also seems to have this problem.
How to reproduce (to the best of my knowledge)
    1) click on url bar
    2) start typing part of a url which generates many results from history
    3) mouse over one of the results (usually the first as thats where the mouse is after clicking on the url bar)
    4) press enter with autofilled url in url bar
What happens is say that i start typing "goo" for google.com, firefox will auto complete with http://google.com, but since my mouse is hovering over a historic google search result it opens what ever my mouse is hovering over even though the url bar says "http://google.com"

  • How to stop my email going to outlook instead of thunderbird

I have set up Thunderbird, I tested by sending an e-mail to myself, it went to my outlook inbox. How can I stop mail arriving in outlook and get it to come to Thunderbird instead?

Does Outlook use IMAP or POP to access the account?
The difference is that POP by default downloads the entire message from the server to your local disk and the usually ''removes'' it from the server. Thus, next time another e-mail client (or the same from a different location) tries to access the mailbox the message is gone.
In contrast, IMAP leaves the messages on the server which is the "master copy" of everything. E-mail programs only download the message as you read it, or synchronize their local "view" on the account with whatever happens on the server, thus every program has the same data (see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP this article] for more information on the differences between the two protocols).
Thus, if Outlook has indeed grabbed all e-mails from your server, you'd have to put them back, which can only be done from Outlook. If you want to stick with the POP protocol, make sure to check something like "Leave Messages On Server" on all clients accessing your account, but then you'd have to clean up the messages yourself (e.g., using the provider's web interface) when the server is getting close to the maximum space allowed for you.

  • New FREE App To Stop External Disks Going To Sleep During Editing.

Digital Heaven have provided this free application to stop external HDs sleeping whilst editing.
I have not had that problem since selecting "Never Sleep" in the Energy Saver panel, but apparently some disks can ignore that command ...... but not with DISKSOMNIA !

    Hi Jack,
I think these presets are set in the lacie drive/firmware.
If you have a cd that came with the drives see if it has an app on it that allows you to change the settings inside the lacie.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to stop Facebook messages going to iPhone when on iPad

    Hi
When I am on Facebook for iPad and I receive a message, is there a way for me to prevent the notification from going to my iPhone as well?
I would like to do this without turning all notifications always off, so that when I am not on iPad or iPhone I get notifications.
    Is this possible? Thanks.

I didn't think so. But thought someone might know better. Thanks.

  • How to stop messages from going to your old phone when you get an Andriod

    Hey,
So this isn't a question since i have the answer i just figured this out today and saw no answers for my case so i'd figured i'd post a solution i found.
In my instance i got the a new phone, Android, and the iMessages were still going to my old iphone. I restored the phone and took out the sim but messages still wouldn't go to my phone.
Every thread says in order to fix you have to go to settings in the phone... BUT WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR PHONE ANYMORE!
    Here's your answer:
Go to apple.com and sign into your ID account on your computer. Go to the phone number settings. Delete your phone number. Save. And then for extra security change your password. Then turn your new phone off and back on and ask a friend who as an iPhone that hasn't been able to contact you to text to you see if it worked. It worked for me and i hope this works for you because this sh*t was frustrating.
    Thanks,

    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/directToSignIn?loc alang=en_US
    Go the the above
Sign in. Go to the left side where it says phone numbers. Delete your number. Then save.
Your iPhone friends will now get the red exclamation point that the message didn't deliver instead of it sending. Then your iPhone friend will force the message to go through as a text by long pressing the message and choosing send as text. Once tthey do that once you're set and all other messages will automatically send as texts for them to you. You just have to hope your iPhone friends realize to force the messages through as texts the first time around  but even if they don't at least they know they aren't reaching you and you aren't ignoring them.
    Does that help?

  • How to stop monitor from going black after no activity for a short time while reading a document?

When I'm reading an e-mail or document without moving my mouse, the screen turns black after only about one minute and then switches to my screen saver.  I must move the mouse constantly to keep my active window open.  I can't find out how to turn this "Energy Saving Feature" off so I can read long articles without being interrupted every other minute.  This has been VERY irritating!
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Pesonalization, click the Screen saver link in the bottom right and in the following window, adjust the time in the 'Wait' box to a time you want before the screen saver appears and click Apply. Or if you prefer never to get the log-on screen, remove the tick next to 'On resume, display logon screen'.  Click Apply to save the change.
Next, open windows Control Panel  again and click Power Options, click the Change plan settings link next to your currently selected power plan and in the following window adjust the time using the dropdown box next to 'Turn Off Display' to a more acceptable setting and then click Save Changes.
Note:  Set the time in the Power Options menu to be slightly longer than the time you set in the Screensaver Menu or you will never see your screensaver start.
