How to stop new tabs from opening during download of PDFs to be opened with external application

I am a teacher using Edmodo for all student assignment submissions. Students use Preview to annotate PDFs and turn in the annotated PDFs to be graded. Each file I save prompts a new blank tab to be opened. This is frustrating since I download 50-60 files per day and have to go back and close each new blank tab. Please advise how to correct this issue so that the files can be downloaded without a new tab opening.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

How do I get Firefox from "saving" to Downloads EVERY PDF file I open ??

New to Firefox. Running Mac Leopard and needed Firefox because a business website running a business replay podcast did not recognize Safari.
So far so good. I actually prefer Firefox to Safari now.
One little thing. Every time I browse the web and open a PDF file it "automatically" sends it to my download file and I therefore have the file "saved" . WELL, I don't necessarily want to save to my download file every PDF file that I open. I just want to open a PDF file, do a quick read and move on to more browsing. How do I stop Firefox from saving to my downloads every PDF file that I open? Is there some kind of setting I can adjust?

If you ever need to download a list of things, firefox can select a vertical column using the Cmd key, unlike Safari.
I have DownLoadThemAll installed and I can select a vertical group of files, right-click them and using DLTA, I can DL them to any location. With Safari, I would have to do this one-at-a-time.

My homepage works fine, but when I open a new tab, that page opens to a Bing search page. I've gone to tools>add-ons> and searched both add-ons and extensions... there nothing listed there that refers to Bing.
Once the tab opens, i can hit my home button which takes me to my home page, but that step is annoying.

How to stop Dreamweaver Tabs from moving after restart?

Hello.
I am a PHP developer, and I find that tabs in Dreamweaver 8
are very useful. Right now I have about 30 files, mostly PHP, some
HTML and CSS open in tabs.
I love the ability to move the tabs around all the time, as I
see fit.
However, one of the wost things I find about Dreamweaver 8
is, once you close it and start it next time, and tabs are all
jumbled up in the order they were opened, rather than in the order
they were left at.
Is there any way to prevent this jumbling up of tabs?

Those tabs represent the documents you have open currently.
As you open a
new document, it gets a new tab. You cannot move them, nor
can you preserve
them from one session to the next, other than by opening the
same documents
again in the same order (you can do this automatically with
PREFERENCES |
General > Reopen Documents on startup.

This issue can be caused by Facebook Toolbar 1.7.3 extension

How to stop creating tabs from newly open documents PSE8 Mac?

I use PSE8 for Mac for scrapbooking. Sometimes I open all at once a lot of images from Bridge into my workspace so I can manipulate them on a new page. However, they open as a big tabbed mass onto the workspace. It is driving me crazy. Sometimes I can pull them apart and sometimes I can't. I want them to open as a bunch of floating windows, some of which I will minimize and others I will work with right away. I want them all to show up in the project bin. If I go to window -> images -> float all in windows, I've learned that I can separate them. is there some box to check somewhere so that they don't open as tabs in the first place?

Hi,
Instead of reseting your preferences every time you face this, you canjust go to Edit > preferences> select the option : Allow Floating documents in Full edit mode. With this option selected, you will have all your photos opened as floating windows.
