when i open my Network Solutions webmail page, my password automatically populates so anyone can enter by simply hitting login. i would like my password bar to stay blank, but it does not, even if i change my password...the new one starts to appear! i have spoken to NS twice, and both times they say i have to clear it through Firefox. can you help. also, they say my "Tools" button should have an "Options" dropdown. which it does not. what's with that?

You should try this :
Go to System Preferences -> General
Uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps"
By holding shift key might be a temporary solution
This should solve the question
P.S. : In fact, this helps in booting the Mac quite faster as it opens all the unclosed apps again while shutting down!

And Download pre-orders when available.

When i go to system preferences, then users & groups, then to my name, log in items ....this box is clear, i have unchecked everything, yet things still start up......

sometimes these applications will have a setting in the preferences to not open on login of computer. If you see none of that, you can go into:
system preferences> Users & Groups > Select your user>Login Items.
unlock the settings by hitting the lock icon on the bottom left of the window then youll be able to uncheck these things from opening when you log in.

Adobe does not recommend Reader and Acrobat both be installed. They have strange interactions and can cause problems. If you do not have problems, you are lucky. Part of the problem is that they leave a part resident to enable quick opening. If it works for you, then fine. If you have some problems, you at least have an idea of what a prime candidate is for the error.

This isn't much of a problem, rather an annoyance. On my computer, a laptop, Firefox keeps logging me in automatically to formspring.me. I've gone to Tools>Options>Security>Saved Passwords and there's not a single password saved in there or a website - it's empty. I've signed out of formspring.me and signed in manually and made sure that the "remember me on this computer" box was unchecked and signed in, signed out and refreshed and Firefox still signs me in automatically. Foxfire automatically loads when I boot up my computer after all the other essential programs boot up. I'd like to know how to disable the start-up menu link that allows the program to load up when the computer first starts up because the Foxfire browser isn't needed when I first start the computer. Thanks for pointing me to the link about the startup programs changes. I found the solution there. Foxfire was hiding in the hidden startup menu. Once I found it using msconfig, I was able to stop it from loading when I started my computer. Again, thanks for the help.

Is there any way to stop iTunes from popping up and syncing my iPod when I plug it in? I have about 1000 songs that are misplaced and I do NOT want them all erased off of my iPod when I plug it in. Yet, all the ways that are explained mean that you have to plug your iPod into the computer and have iTunes open and sync it just so you can click the box telling it not to sync. ANY way around this? Please help.

Open the iTunes preferences and turn that option off, or press the Shift and Control keys while connecting the iPod to your computer, releasing them once the iPod appears.

How do I stop Mail from automatically logging onto my email provider

Prior to Mtn Lion, anytime Mail started it would prompt me for the password to log onto my email provider. If I didn't want to check for new email I would cancel out. That's no longer the case. If I log onto a wi-fi connection, Mail automatically logs into my email provider and downloads new items. The prompt for a password no longer appears. I've gone into my Mail account and removed the password but that didn't help; I've gone into keychain and checked for the existence of items for Mail and found none; and I've gone into Mail preferences to the Advanced tab and removed the check mark on "include when automatically checking for new messages." I'm still getting new messages. Once I log into my email provider, I don't mind the automatic send/receive from happening. However, when I'm on an untrusted system, I would prefer to control the activity. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Before shifting to manual updates I'd probably prevent Mail app from starting automatically and leave it down until I'm ready for mail activity. Once I logon I don't mind the periodic updates. However, I should be able to work offline. This was the case when Notes and ToDo's were part of the Mail environment.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
