How to stop preview window from automatically getting focus when you move up/down the message list.

Since updating (my TB was a few versions old) to 31.2, the preview window automatically gets focus when I move up/down the message list. I'm assuming this is a new "feature". Is there a way to shut this off and leave the focus on the message list so I can navigate up/down like before?

You are referring to the 'Message Pane' which displays selected opened emails below the list of emails. It is not a 'preview'.
When you select an email by either using mouse to click on an email in the list or using the arrow keys to select emails up and down the list, you are selecting an email to open and read. That is why it is being opened in the Message Pane so that you can read it.
If you select an email in the list and then cllck anywhere else including in the Message Pane, then you will have moved focus away from the list and the strong highlight on email in list is reduced to paler highlight.
When you click on an email in the list, the email becomes highlighted, at this point you can use eg: arrow keys to move up and down the list.
If you are performing single left click on email in list and then do nothing else and the strong highlight auto changes to paler highlight.
Check you do not have a conflict with an addon by starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

  • How do you stop Lightroom from automatically making adjustemnts when you are looking at the images?

There is some kind of auto adjustment happening when I look at my images for the first time.
Any knowledge of this, I've looked in help and can't find anything.
Anyone know how to make it stop?
Usually it looks pretty good, but it would be nice to simply revert if you don't like what it did.
If you could please e-mail me, I don't really like the format of this forum, so I'm don't know when I'll be back, or where my post will be!
    Thanks!

Jayme, what you see first is the camera produced jpg (thumbnail) which is done by the camera at the time the shot is taken even if you have set the camera to save as raw. This thumbnail jpg, which is part of the raw file, is required for you to view the image on the camera lcd screen. If it were not produced you would not be able see the image either in the camera or on your computer. Raw files are not in a viewable format until they are processed by a raw converter.
When you import the raw files into the LR library LR will first display the camera produced thumbnail as a preview until it has been able to convert the raw data. This is done at the LR default settings. Since the LR conversion engine is different from the camera firmware it is not able to produce an exact jpg image. LR does not have the info/ technology used by the camera and uses its own proprietary procedures to produce its own conversion.
All the camera manufacturers have their own proprietary technology for processing the raw data which is not publicly shared for competitive reasons.
Tools are provided in LR to allow you to make your own adjustments to the raw data and create an image to your liking. Hopefully even better than what your camera is able to produce. You now have your own "darkroom" to produce your images.
There are lots of tutorials available to bring your skils up to mark. Have fun. There is a thread in the FAQ which deals with this issue. Every raw converter has its own taste which you can adjust.

  • How do I stop sub-tools from automatically showing up when clicking a tool in the palette?

I must have clicked something or inadvertantly pressed a keyboard shortcut or something because a couple of weeks ago, the sub-tools on the tool palette started popping up without me having to hold down the mouse button for a second. Now when I click a tool (the rectangular marqee tool for example), the hidden tools (eliptical marqee, single row etc.). Please make it stop! It's annoying as hell.
    I'm using PS CS5 on Windows 7.

I don't believe there's any configuration option that changes that behavior, but I know what you're seeing has been discussed here before.  Unfortunately, it might be difficult to think of the right terms to search for it.   I don't recall if there was a specific fix or workaround found, though.  I'm wracking my brain and I don't remember one.
Is there any chance you've gotten the right and left mouse buttons swapped?  Do they pop up immediately when you click the right mouse button (as they should)?
Have you reconfigured your mouse double-click speed or any other mouse parameters recently?
Do you have an alternate mouse you can try?
Have you tried clearing your Photoshop preferences (by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately after launching Photoshop)?

  • How do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

how do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

When you log out or shut down, there will be a checkbox that asks you if you want to reopen windows when you log in. Just uncheck this box. If that isn't it, you may have login items turned on. Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups and then under your name click the Login Itens tab. Make sure nothing is there.
If you want to stop windows from restoring when you open applications (so for example when you open Safari it doesn't open the 50 tab page you just had open when you quit) go to SystemPreferences>General and then hit the checkbox that says Close windows when quitting an application.

How to stop my 4S from automatically taking hundreds of photos.  I use an otterbox and I think the buttons get pushed when I put it into the belt clip.  Can I disable the side buttons for the camera?  I currently have 1.958 photos of my belt that I am deleting one at a time.  Help on how to tag and deleted belt photos would be helpful.

As you already know, open camera roll - edit - then select the pictures then trash.

how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

Any application that is open when you shut down will re-open when you restart unless you deselect this when shutting down/restarting:
Also check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login items tab and make sure there's nothing listed there that you don't want launched.

  • How to STOP OS X from automatically changing between language input methods

I want to know if there is a way in OS X Leopard to stop the system from automatically changing the language input method. I use English and Japanese on my computer, but this would apply to anyone using more than one input method.
For example, when I click on a Japanese-language file, the system automatically changes input to Kotoeri (the Japanese-language input method). When I then click on an English-language file it usually, but not always, changes back to English input. But I almost never want to TYPE in Japanese. I just need to be able to read Japanese and to cut and paste from Japanese language files. It is very annoying when I start typing in an English-language file and find the input method has been changed to kotoeri without me realizing it—everything comes out in meaningless Japanese. When I want to type in Japanese, I want to manually change to the Japanese input system. That is, I want English to always be the default input method even if I am manipulating Japanese-language files.
So, I’m wondering if there’s a way to set the computer so that it never AUTOMATICALLY switches between the input methods. I want to be able to switch only manually. In the old days of System 7, 8, and 9, there was a third-party control panel you could get that would do this (I think it was called Stay There!) and I don't remember this being a problem in Tiger or earlier versions of OS X. Is anyone aware of any way to do this in Leopard?
    Thank you!
    Colin

Well, I do have it set that way, and I can look up there to see where I am, but in the work I do time is critical and I move back and forth between the two languages frequently. It is really a pain and a waste of time to have to look and make a change that should be unnecessary. The problem is not so much that I don't know where I am. It's that I don't want to ever have to think I MIGHT be in anything but English input unless I specifically want to be. In other words, I need to be able to forget about this problem even being a possibility.

  • How to stop iphone 4 from automatically download iOS6 update to your phone?

I would like to know how to stop the automatic update of iOS6 download directly to my iphone 4 without me telling it to go ahead and download it.  It's so sneaky, it keeps automatically downoading the update (2+GB) and take up that same amount of space on my iphone once I charge it to full power.  And it will stay like that along with me losing 2+GB of space to apple unless I install the update.
However, I refuse to install the update when it doesn't have google map, youtube apps and still having problem with wifi connection and data overusage due to some unknown bug and not the customer using it.  I have reseted my iphone 3 times back to the original factory setting so I can reclaim that 2GB storage space and keep my iOS5 already, but everytime I did that, it would just redownloaded the update again without asking for my confirmation after I charge the phone to full power.  Is there anyway to stop this insanity?  I don't want to do hard reset/activate phone again and again just to rid of this automatic download.  It's wasting my time, my storage space and my bandwidth....and I do not have unlimited storage space.  Please help!!!

I would disable wifi before plugging it in to charge.  Eventually, you will need to update as only the current version of IOS will be supported.

  • How to stop a program from automatically starting up at login..

Each of our children has an account on my computer. Recently my son has installed Skype using his account. It starts up everytime he logs in. I tried to disable this auto start up but I think I ran in to a bigger problem.
None of the other accounts are able to configure their own accounts (about half of all the other system preferences are also greyed out) and when I, logged in as the administrator, try to configure their accounts there is no 'Login Items' tab.
I tried it by looking for the 'StartupItems'-folder in all of the Libraries but there are none. The 'LaunchAgent' and 'LaunchDaemon' folders are in the System Library but are empty.
Maybe something is wrong with the preferences...
    Anybody any ideas...??

    icks and it's done!
The underlaying problem remains though (why can't I find any 'startupitems' folders. and why are two of the accounts not able to configure their own accounts?)
login items that you add from the dock or account preferences are handled differently. they are recorded in the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
this file is read at the login and items listed there are executed. deleting this file will clear the login items list.

  • Can I STOP my powerbook from automatically waking up when I open my display

    Hey all,
Have spent literally hours trying to find this, but I'm at a loss. Perhaps somebody knows.
The latch on my powerbook 12" 867mhz PowerBook broke off. Now the display regularly opens a little bit, even though it's in a protective case.
Does anybody know of a way that I can disable it automatically waking up when I open the display?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Antonie!
Not knowing where you found that info, I don't know if that is a correct command.
And I would guess that it is referring to entering the Command sudo pmset lidwake 0, in Terminal, which can be started from the Utilities folder.
But, because of the fact that the procedure was poorly written, I would hesiate to follow the advice, unless another poster, with more knowledge than I, of Terminal commands, confirms it is valid.
"When I open System Profiler -> Hardware -> Power -> System Power Settings it says that for both AC and Battery use "Wake on clamshell open: yes". I'd love for it say "no". How do I do that?"
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver: Are there any setting in there that can be adjusted.
EDIT: I found a site that Better explains the Terminal Command, and how to execute it.

  • How to stop master elements from appearing to refresh when visiting subsequent pages?

I have set a logo and navigation bar on the master page, which are inherited by all the pages and sub-pages linked to it. Yet the logo and navigation bar appear to refresh when moving from page to page. I find this extremely annoying. I thought maybe this visual annoyance only occurred within the Muse app in Preview mode -- or only the first time a page was loaded. So, with Safari's cache empty, I went to the live site of the beginning tutorial: katiesbakerycafe.com and found that the logo-navigation bar on the secondary pages (which differed from the Welcome page) refreshed when visiting one of the secondary pages -- Menu, Gallery, Blog, Contact -- for the first time. But the logo-navigation bar did not appear to refresh when clicking back and forth among those pages after the first visit. So, only half-bad, but still annoying.
Is there a way to stop this visual annoyance on a site created in Muse?
In the past, I would have set up the navigation on the periphery of my webpage and used a large frame containing all the pages that used the same navigation bar.
    Thanks.

    Hi Pamela,
The html that is generated for the master page is repeated for every page the master is applied to. Thus, it refreshes the page on every fresh load, after which browser caches the data to prevent reloading some static content.
What you are referring to is not possible in Muse at this stage. I will recommend that you post this as idea to our ideas section, Ideas for features in Adobe Muse
