How to stop previously open apps from reopening at startup?

Several apps (not listed in User & Groups > (current user) > Login Items) are re-opening at startup. I also leave un-checked the "Reopen windows when logging back in" setting. Please help.

First thing I did was:
1. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items (uncheck unwanted startup apps)
2. Following infinite vortex's instructions:
- quitting all your apps
- navigate to Library folder (option clicking in the Go menu if necessary)
HD > Library > Preferences (folder) > Find all occurances of files that start with com.apple.loginwindow ... delete them. Restart immediately.

Thanks. Your suggestion is exactly that which I have already done. Interestingly, there is only one app not opening when booting up.

BTW - It's always nice to run across another who enjoys any heading from getting saoked on a beat to running full and bye. Sailing remains one of my great loves. I used to race Lightnings, and compete in the (old) SORC.

I was trying to figure out how to stop my pinned apps from disappearing after I've shut-down my computer during storms. In the process of trying things I lost the Orange Firefox drop down box in the upper left corner. How do I get it back?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden.
*View > Toolbars > Customize
*Right-click a toolbar).
*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

How to update previously bought apps from other country?

I currently changed my region from Brazil to US and everything seemed good in Itunes and Ipod. Now I have a mix of apps from my older and latest region and Itunes keep showing me 28 new updates, but when I try to update them it say that no updates are currently available for my account. I'm be able to identify what the region for each app. I've seen in another discussion here that I no longer receive app update notifications for apps purchased in my older region. So, my doubt is how is it possible to get this notifications about 28 updates in my Itunes!? The unique different think I did in the last days was update my Itunes to 11 version. If a previously purchased app is not available in your new country, you will not be able to download it again.

How to stop my sons apps (from his account) being downloaded to my iphone (on my account)

My son has his own account so he can download free apps, the problem is, these apps are being added to my iphone when I sync to itunes even though I am signed into my account.
I thought apps downloaded to a specific account would only be availble if that device was associated with that account. I checked his account settings and my iphone is not linked to his account.
Any help appreciated as I am sick of having to delete every bloody flappy app from my phone evertime I sync.

The trouble is I need automatic downloads on to sync apps etc between my phone and ipad. What I don't get is why I am getting apps downloaded via my sons account when his account is not linked to my devices.

The following works for me.
One time only.
Quit all apps before shutdown.
Click shutdown.
Uncheck the reopen box and click shutdown.
From then on.
Quit all apps.

I think your problems were solvable and not that the Sonnet card and 5,1 is not bootable, in fact the 5,1 is easier, there are more supported cards.
I have the 1,1 where the Sonnet Pro is recommended but for data only and are not bootable because of the 32-bit EFI firmware. NOT the 4,1 and 5,1. The 2008's are problem child and have a mix of PCIe 1.1 slots, first implementation of EFI64 that also has problems. Also the 4,1 has two PCIe 2.x slots 3 and 4 that share a controller but that simply limits bandwidth.
I would have left the TRIM support and NVRAM changes in Yosemite to a separate thread if you wanted to focus on the Sonnet Tempo Pro support in Mac Pro 2010-12 5,1s.
Also the make of SSD can vary and they also have their own firmware as do bootable controllers along with the EFI of the Mac, all of which have to work together. Meaning it might be that Samsung 840 va 840 EVO vs 840 Pro will all be slightly different but my experience is Samsungs work well (as do others like Crucial with the proper firmware - and there was/is an issue with the firmware of the Samsung 840 but not with booting).
The PCIe card gets seen and treated as external and therefore 'eject' but of course you can't when it is the system boot drive.
One thing I found last week and meant to mention: After installing or changing PCIe cards, RESET SMC made all the difference in the world with the long boot delay. Some PCIe cards will add a few seconds, system has to search the device tree which now shows another controller with multiple devices - and sometimes NVRAM and SMC are what I will call "dirty" and need to be rebuilt and reset.

By default Mac apps do not close when you close the window you were working in. Unlike in Windows when you click the top right X icon in any program is closes the window and the program shuts down. On Mac OS X clicking the X in the top left hand corner only closes that windows and leave the program running in the background. If they are left open and you reboot they will restart with the system and load a window for them.

In previous versions of Mac OS X, any window containing an open application that was reduced in size was put in the Dock and looked like those in the image. So if you reduced any open page while in an application, that would be as you see, there. Or if you chose to 'hide' an open application it'd go there.
You should be able to click once on each of those and have the full page restored in the screen. If there is anything on those pages you want to save, do so and the file would be saved in your Documents or other folder of your choosing.

What Rudegar says is true, but it's a lot easier to rearrange icons in iTunes:
Connect your phone and open iTunes.
Click on the Apps tab.
You will see your home screen in the main window, with the other screens in a scrollable column on the right. Scroll down and click on the last page to put it in main window.
Now scroll the column so the home page is visible on the right.
Click on the Camera and drag it onto the home page at the right.
Be careful not to accidentally insert it into another app, thereby creating a group.
